Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

Good afternoon everyone, how are we doing?

The FBI (via mobile)

We have an APB out on a Tim Graham. He hasn't been spotted in a chat in months. Do you have any leads?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

I'd like you to catch him as he assaulted me in a post this morning and I am willing to press charges.

Kevin (Louisiana)

Does Brock make this roster?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

Nope.

Kevin (Louisiana)

Any concern about Roos? He has not played well in the preseason. And before you come with the typical sarcastic no answer, I know it's the preseason but he has gotten beat by average guys as well is spotty in run blocking. Did you get to see him in practice when you visited? How did he look?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

Roos will be fine. No sarcasm per your request. No fun either. We'll make people sleepy.

Simon Kuharsky(in the bathroom) (Prepping for school)

Hey Pops!!!Where are we off to next week first game. How about the Colts/Texans for a going back to school special!!!!What say you pops?PS Mother is watching.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

This would be awfully late to prep for school It'd 2:04! We can Skype while I am in Houston and you remain in Nashville. You can be man of the house when Finley goes outside!

Jack (VH1 Ville In Cincy)

Love the blog to spy on some of those AFC southers, quick AFC North Question. Do you have any idea why people are picking the ravens and their banged up secondary of my bengals who have done nothing but improve? We are the defending champs already...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

Bengals plummet back to Earth. You're talking to the wrong guy. One season doesn't a trend make.

matt (ft myers fl)

hey paul do you think david carr will ever be able to be a starting nfl qb again?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

Kidding right?

SprungOnSports (Long Island)

The league tweaked the umpire rule so that he'll be directly behind the furthest member in the backfield in response to the Colts complaining that it will ruin their tempo. Does the league cater to the best teams in terms of rule changes?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

If they did, they wouldn't have made this rule at all since Manning hates it.

Jason (Philly)

Gas or Charcoal?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Gas.

Patrick (nashville)

Paul you have some passionate fans the Titans and Texans fans wana kill each other instead of focusing on the king of the hill the Colts its like week 2 in Tennessee all over again

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

If they know they are playing for second place and want to fight about it, why would a Colts fan case?

Dustyn (Houston)

Any chance Jeremiah Johnson backs up Arian Foster? Slaton seems to be out of favor

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

I think Johnson is third, but will get some work for sure.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

ASIDE Curtis Granderson is having a very nice day.

Jason (San Francisco)

Who do you think compliments the other better: Chris Johnson helping Vince Young or Vince Young helping Chris Johnson? Vince Young did look good with Chris Johnson in the backfield, but CJ did step up his game when VY took over with 11 straight 100 yard games.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

There is absolutely no doubt that VY benefits more from Johnson than Johnson from VY. You think people are fearing VY and thus allowing 80-yard TD runs?

John (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

What is your view on Rashad Jennings? He seems to be a very servicable backup with the potential to develop into a very effective third down back, and perhaps even more.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

I'd agree. Though projecting a guy from a two to a an eventual one can always be dangerous.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

AFC South predictions and preview files are up on the blog if you missed them. Also my debate on Andre Johnson vs. Randy Moss as a fantasy WR. If you haven't please have a look at both.

Kevin (Louisiana)

Just looking for an answer brother... Sarcastic answers are fine... sarcastic no answers are no fun. Who do you think the DE's will be for the Titan's final 53?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

Hayes, Ford, Morgan, Babin and Ball.

Jeff (Nashville)

Paul, How do you think Damian Williams fairs at being active during games on Sundays consider Mariani seemingly ahead in the return race?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

If Williams is not returning, he's not active if the other receivers are healthy.

Gil (Jagsonville.com)

Do you think GM Gene sticks with his youth movement and cuts Greg Jones in favor of the up-and-comer Brock Bolen?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

I don't have a good read on that one. Jones has long been a JDR favorite, so a move there would probably be vs. JDR's wishes. But Smith's got the call. If a decent showing carrying the ball has you excited about Bolen though, I'd look for other reasons for him to win a job.

andre johnson (laland)

Do we beat the colts in the opener?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

Dude, we've known each other for a while now. You should know I don't do predictions.

John (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

Aaron Kampman. What do you see him doing for the Jaguars?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

I think he will be very good, a productive pass rusher who has to be accounted for with at least eight sacks.

Clay (Charlotte)

Serious question. How often to "work in progress" draft picks actually work out?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

Well they are all works in progress. Let's say for your question all non starters are works in progress. Then a great deal of them work out.

Ed (Dallas)

What type of numbers do you see out of Arian Foster this year? Can he stay healthy?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

I'm really bad at and wary of predicting health. How does one do that, particularly with a guy with no real NFL history?

Sean (New Haven )

What's Kenny Britt's character like? He's got the skills but are his intangibles going to hold him back?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

I think he's a good guy. Little immature, but in a manageable way.

Kevin (Louisiana)

The early love for the Texans has waned a bit, is that only because of the Cushing suspension? I mean what is different now than before training camp when they seem to be a consenius No 2 in the division

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

A lot of people visited with them in camp (like me) and saw very little to suggest they are any different. I'm waiting to say they have killer instinct until I see it. Twice. We also saw the Titans work, and they appeared to have more spark and be more talented than we thought. So opinions shifted for some. For me.

Elizabeth (goofing off at work)

Last preseason game tonight, how will you be celebrating the end of the NFL's version of a show about nothing?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

I've been upbeat today and decided that's why. End of exhibition season. I shall celebrate by staying up late and getting up early to keep pace with the three games I am not at. But I will certainly enjoy a semi-slow weekend, my last for some time.

JT (Indy)

Paul, have you heard of issues going on between Larry Coyer, and Freeney and Mathis? Seems like there is tension a brewing

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

I have not. You're quite vague. Seems like to whom?

John (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

The Atlanta Braves. Thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

Chokers. If they make the playoffs it's a waste as people won't go to the games and they will find ways to lose. My brother in South Carolina likes them, so I take that softer stance.

Peyton Manning (Indianapolis)

Why didn't you tell me beforehand that you prefered gas over charcoal? No Kuharsky cookouts for me. We haven't been communicating well and I feel left in the dark.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

Every week we talk communication, every week I look for a message, email, text, fax, DM, Morse Code message, snail mail, smoke signal. Nothing. Ever. It's hurtful.

Vince Young (LP Field)

What do you mean without a doubt I am better because of Chris Johnson? CJ only had six 100 yard games in 21 games with Kerry Collins yet had ten out of eleven with me under center?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

And you think the reason for that was Young? Did he do a lot of blocking? The whole team played better. Not losing by a lot allows a team to run more and longer into the game. Certainly VY had a lot to do with that. But CJ gave out watches to the guys who helped 2,000 happen and VY didn't get one.

Jason (Murfreesboro)

Lavelle Hawkins returned kicks in college. I would feel a lot more comfortable with him back there than 2 rookies. Plus, he looks faster than Mariani and Williams. Any reason the Titans don't want Lavelle back there?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:21 PM)

I don't know that they have every looked at him as a returner. But I have a bad memory. They want the ball secure first. Hawkins doesn't strike me as super reliable with gunners closing in and a ball in the air.

John (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

A little off topic, but with TCU breaking away from conferences next year what do you think about the increasing precedent of independent teams in college football? It seems dangerous to me.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Hard to find enough games at a certain point.

Matt Leinart (the bench)

PK, I'm in the market for a life coach to help me get my starting job back. Any chance you can get me in touch with Wycheck?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Dude, if you can't figure out how to find 89 on your own, you're worse off than reported.

Chris Simms (Baptist Sports Park)

Any guesses where I end up after the Titans cut me?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

I'm sure Kyle Shanahan would like to reunite. Washington have a third?

Daniel (Chicago)

In St. Louis, Bradford would barely have to throw 55% and pass for 2,000 yards to be an upgrade over Mark Bulger... any chance the Rams are a greatly improved team this year with a better, healthier o-line and the #1 overall pick?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

Depends on what defines greatly. If you mean win four games, then yes.

Felix (NJ)

hey paul, who has a better chance of staying with the titans. gado or blount?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

I think Gado, because of special teams.

John (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

What has to happen for the Jaguars to jump the Texans and Titans as the second in the division and put in in a spot where they can make the playoffs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

1) Garrard has to play great. 2) The defense has to rush the passer way better than expected. 3) One of those teams has to suffer some injuries and the other has to underachieve.

Dan (SEA)

what do you expect from Cutler this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

A flame out that means a new staff next year.

Chris (FL)

Who do you predict will be the Jags starting safties?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Well, I need to know if the outsider they bring in will be a strong or a free.

Eric (Nashville)

Good Afternoon Paul,How bad will the new referee positon hurt the Colts offense?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Not that badly.

Abraham Lincoln (via mobile from heaven)

Pete Kuharsky, you shouldn't be so mean. "A friend is one who has the same enemies as you have."

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

I need to chew on that a while. And pass it on to my enemy, Graham.

Gil (Jagsonville.com)

A thought going into the pre-season was that the Jaguars would shift their running focus to the right side, behind (at the time) Vince Manuwai and Eben Britton. Is that plan shot, with Uche Nwaneri settling in at right guard and Eben Britton looking inconsistent? Or is the left side looking better and better?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

Has Jack announced the s3econd guard? If it's Manuwai, I think he's right and Nwaneri is left and that plan is still possible in effect. If Forney is left and Uche is right, then I don't know if they have as dominant a run side as they wanted to find.

John (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

Do you buy the hype that Mike Thomas could break out alongside Sims-Walker this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

I like him a lot and think he will make a big jump. But I don't know that he matches a healthy MSW.

Kevin (Louisiana)

Does anyone else in the league follow Fisher's preseason playing time protocol?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

If so, very few.

moe (dorm)

who gets more yards: addai or brown?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

Addai.

Finley Kuharsky (campaign headquarters)

Peyton Manning called, he's withdrawn his support of my campaign due to your anti-charcoal position. He also says you haven't been communicating well and he feels out of the loop.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

Who knew he was a big charcoal guy? You he calls?

Steve Jobs (Cupertino)

What do you think of the new iPods I announced yesterday? You should Ping me.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

I'm going to need a freebie and a lesson. Or a few hundred dollars please.

Clay (Charlotte)

Do you give out watches to chatters who help you get raises?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

Swatches.

Gary Kubiak (Houston)

Will I get fired if we don't make the playoffs this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

The public pressure will be immense.

Sean (New Haven )

Kenny Britt. Top 20 receiver in the league this year or D. Bowe like dissapointment

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

Lots of room between there and I think that's where Britt will land. But I think he's an up and comer who's going to be very good.

Tom (Chicagoland)

Worst projected starter for every team? I'm leaning second CB(McCourty) for TEN (not counting McRath's replacement) and one of the safeties for JAC, not sure about HOU and IND.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

Tough, good question. I'll go this way: Houston: winner of RG (or Vonta Leach, he doesn't do it for me); Indy: Kyle DeVan; Jaguars: Either unknown safety; Titans: Replacement for McRath at OLB, probably Colin Allred.

Clay (Charlotte)

Do you think that the Jaguars will change their name when they move to LA?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:37 PM)

Why is the Jaguars' potential plight such fun for people? They aren't leaving any time soon.

Jeff (IA City)

Will Mitch King make the Colts squad?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

He's probably fifth right now. Do they keep five tackles when they have to chop down from six ends? Going to be tough. King is practice squad eligible.

Clay (Charlotte)

It's not our fault that they have an awful fan base and even worse owners. Don't you watch videos online of stupid people who hurt themselves? Doesn't it make you feel better about yourself? Same thing.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

You and I have different tastes.

Brain (in the BORO)

What is the weakest position for the titans outside of corner?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

Linebacker I think.

Trent (WA)

Is it just pass pro keeping Brown from passing Addai?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

Brown has more breakaway potential, but Addai gets what's there. I think they prefer 3, 3, 6 to 0, -2, 10.

Clay (Charlotte)

Tom, you do know that PK has to actually interview these guys, right? So when they read that he said they were the worst...well let's just say, NFL players are big men.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

Guys don't read these chats, do they?

Paul Kuharsky (Basement of Mother's House)

Why am I so awesome?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:41 PM)

If you shared your real name, I might invite you over to see my office, which is on the main floor of my own house. As Dan Rather used to say, "Courage."

Elizabeth (still goofin off at work)

What are the chances Kevin Mawae gets picked up by week 1, and what does the Players Union do if their President is not on the field during the regular season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

He won't get picked up by Week One. Week One guys have their salaries guaranteed. If he resurfaces it will be after Week One. NFLPA role certainly isn't helping him. My understanding is he can be president for a year as a player without a team. Doesn't make a difference to me. It's the owners the PA negotiates with who are keeping him from playing, no?

Derek (Jacksonville)

PK, will you be enjoying any college footbal this evening? Excited for the season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

I will be "enjoying" Saints at Titans from LP Field.

Gil (Jagsonville.com)

As much as he values picks, and as heavy the QB crop is next year, do you see GM Gene making a picks-for-safety trade before Week 1? Or just trying to claim off waivers?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

Waivers or after clearing waivers. A lot of teams are safety searching. Who's safety trading?

britney spears (bathroom stall)

where does townsend fit on the colts roster?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

Fourth corner.

Brooks (Murfreesboro)

Do you think Raheem Brock is done?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

In Tennessee, yes. After Week One and/or with injuries he should get another look elsewhere.

chamber of commerce (Houston)

You blew our city off during training camps. Can we expect you week 1, week3 and at least two other times this year???

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Depends on how you do. How about you open more than a week's worth of practices? I'm there Week One for sure.

Brain (in the BORO)

Being that the Titans have gone young, does this give Cecil a chance to put his mark on the Def - overall game plan -- first time in a long time I saw blitz on D

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

People need to get it out of their heads that Cecil is or wants to be a blitz happy DC. He wants pressure from the front four, and safe coverages that minimize big plays. He's a disciple of Jim Schwartz. They went young in part because they think they can get front four rush out of the kids.

John (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

Reggie Nelson, Gerald Alexander, Anthony Smith and Sean Considine: In this conga line of mediocrity who do you like the most as a player?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

Considine seems to have the most potential to flash here and there. But your conga line line is right. Can we pick from a hat?

Hosie (Nashville)

Do you think ESPN would hire me? I count be the Ebony and Rick Reilly could be Ivory!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

All I know is they follow your Twitter feed very closely.

Marc (Charlotte)

I read questions in this chat to make me feel better about myself.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

Glad to be of service.

Tim (Nashville)

Why do the Titans always waste training camp roster spots for extra kickers and punters when they know they are just going to keep Bironas and Kern.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

To lessen the load on Kern and Bironas. What's wrong with that. Were you in love with one of the scrubs they cut this week? (one of them was the extra leg, by the way.)

Morten (Denmark)

Hey Paul!Who do you think will step in for Cushing through the first 4 games?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

I liked the Sharpton idea, which seemed to go away quickly.

Simon Kuharsky (via mobile)

Mom says Phillies - Rays in the World Series. I agree. She also said that if you disagree, you'll be taking up residence in Finley's doghouse.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

A) I disagree. B) When did Fin get a house? I did hear he's building a bathroom.

Dustyn (Houston)

Brown or Rackers as Texans kicker? People down here are saying the tie should go to Brown since he's a life long Texan but don't we need some new blood?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

I'm with you, a tie should go to new blood. If Brown missed a biggie late against the Colts: "Why didn't they make a change?" If Rackers does: "Well, at least they made a change."

sulaiman (new jersey)

What seed no. do the texans get in the playoffs if they make it?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

Six.

John (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

Josh Scobee: Great kicker, or greatest kicker?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

The guy can bomb it, Mrs. Scobee.

Peter (Nashville)

When do we find out who the second Titans corner is? I know Jeff probably won't make it official until next sunday, but do you anticipate any clear indications after tonight?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

I anticipate him trying to hide it, even as he's said there's no real competitive advantage to it.

Craig Hentrich (enjoying retirement)

Just thought I'd check in and ask, how do you think the new kid is doing?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

It just so happens Mr. Kern will be a central figure in an upcoming column. Look for it Wednesday.

Eric (Nashville)

Do you see Jared Cook having a bigger impact this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

Bigger than almost none? I sure hope so.

mike tomlin (latrobe)

Do we make playoffs and what seed no.?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

I like you, as fifth.

Jeff (SOBE)

Why no love for the Dolphins - I think the stinkin Jets are over rated and will end up 8 and 8!! Too many ego's ...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

I think the Jets are overrated too. I might have the Dolphins in the playoffs. Stay tuned for our playoff field predictions.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

The Yankees win!

Gil (Jagsonville.com)

More receptions? Dallas Clark or Marcedes Lewis?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

I love when jokers contribute. You are aware that Clark caught 100 balls last year, a mere 68 more than Lewis, right?

morgan freeman (gotham)

was the dark knight really overrated?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

I liked it a great deal.

The Coin Flip (via mobile)

I saw your plot to pit AFC South readers against me, picking games this year. Bring it on! I'll toast all of you.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

Officially you are THE DREADED COIN FLIP.

Jason (Murfreesboro)

How much does Rothelisburger being out help the TItans week 2? Will McGrath being out be a big factor then?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:57 PM)

Helps the Titans a great deal. Loss of a second-year linebacker and a two-time Super Bowl winning QB aren't in the same conversation.

Eric (Nashville)

I read recently where Michael Griffin stated he was hurt most of last year. Do you think he returns to Pro Bowl caliber this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:58 PM)

He had shoulder surgery after the season. A bum shoulder didn't put him on terrible angles or prompt him to bit on play-action, did it? If he's a Pro Bowler, I suspect seven safeties ahead of him aren't playing.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:59 PM)

Well folks, that was a good time. Let's do it again next week. We'll set an over-under for how many people ask for predictions?
