Greetings, everyone. Been off two days and feel like I missed a week of graduate school. We'll get started in a minute so fire up your best questions and I'll do what I can with them
Because the Yankees were awarded the waiver claim on Ted Lilly, if the Dodgers fall out of playoff contention and decide they want to trade Ted Lilly after all can they still trade him and would he be eligible for the playoff roster and what are the chances of that the Dodgers would decide to trade him later on in the month?
Hello, David. That's a interesting question and one for which the interpretation is unclear. the Yankees contend that because their waiver claim was accepted on August 31, Lilly would be eligible for post-season roster if trade can be worked out. That in itself is still open for question. And if the Yankees and Dodgers are able to work out a deal say, a week from now, would that still apply? Must confess I don;t know the answer to that but will try to find out this afternoon. But as of 11 am, my source says the deal is not going to happen anyway
Do you agree that the only good to come from the Frenchy trade is that Frenchy comes in as a defensive replacement in the 9th of the last game of the ALCS and guns down A-Rod at the plate?
Ha! That would presume that A-Rod is capable of making it around the bases between his hip and calf issues. Seriously, some of his trips from home to first this season have been embarrassing in their, say we say, leisurely-ness? I've brought it up to Girardi several times and he's always defended Alex or made an excuse for him, but it's a real issue and since I don;t think he dogs it, you have to assume he's had lingering problems in that surgically-repaired right hip all year. (Yes, I know it's his left calf now. Not saying they;re related).
Dear WallyIs the No Facial Hair rule gone now that Hal and Hank are running the team?
Hello, Mr. Hassan: Have not heard that the facial hair ban has been lifted, and the only mustache I can recall this season was Nick Johnson's Oliver Hardy-type stache early on. Gaudin had a full beard in oakland that he shaved when he came back here, and Kerry Wood lost the goatee, so i would have to assume it;s still in effect
What is the purpose of putting a player on the waivers if they aren't going to trade them anyways?
Hey, Matthews. Good question with a couple of answers. Sometimes teams want to gauge the value of a player and use the waiver wire to see how much interest there is. Sometimes a team will send a guy out on the wire before they go on a hot streak and realize, hey, we might still be in this thing. that is obv. what happened with the Dodgers and Lilly and also Kuroda. They put them up and then decided they stil had a shot at the WC, so now have decided not to move them.
Montero a Sep call up ? I heard no, why is this ? Concerns about ability as a catcher ?
Hey, Jeremy. My understanding is they have the luxury of not needing to protect Montero from the Rule 5 draft by placing him on the 40-man roster and mught be saving space for others who do need the protection.
Do you think the jeff francour trade was even for both sides?
Hey, Adam: Must admit I haven;t seen much of the Mets or Francoeur this season, but it was clear Fremchy no longer fit into their plans and had fallen back into bad plate habits that soured the Braves on him. Thye weren't going to tender him anyway so at least they got something for him. that's my admittedly superficial read on that situation
Do you think that the Dodgers will reconsider and trade Ted Lilly to the Yankees?
Hey, david, the Yankee source I spoke with today seemed pretty resigned that the Dodgers would not trade, and even if they do, it's undetermined if Yanks would be able to add Lilly to post-season roster. I have the feeling it's going to play out like Brian Cashman told me last week: "What we got is what we;re gonna have" or words to that effect
How do you think the New York Jets will do in 2010?
Hello, Chris: Honestly, haven;t the slightest idea but willbe very interested in finding out. Obv. a lot of it has to do with the continued development of Sanchez, and how much LT has left on offense, and if the Jets come to terms with Revis, which I believe they will. And no matter how they do, it's a given that Rex Ryan will be the most entertaining coach in the league.
Hey wally which of our september call ups do you think will have the biggest impact
Hey, Jen. It depends on who they bring up and quite frankly, I can;t see them using many of them in crucial spots if the race stays as tight as it is now. I can see a young reliever like Albaladejo maybe getting a big out at some point, but I don;t really think Kevin Russo or Greg Golson are going to get a lot of important playing time, and Chad Moeller will only be around in the event of emergency to Posada or Cervelli. I think the big impacts the rest of the way are going to have to come from the Yankees impact players, of which they have plenty
Thanks, everyone, for taking part. Enjoy the game tonight, have a blast over Labor Day weekend and we'll do this again next week from Arlington.
