John's here!

TC (Denver)

What similar qualities do you see in Tim Tebow compared to yourself when you were a rookie in the NFL?

John Elway
  (2:30 PM)

I would say athletic ability and competitiveness. Some similar leadership qualities there.

Drew (Boise)

Thank you for signing my football card when I was a kid. You were the only one who did and it meant the world to me at the time. What do you think of Brett Farve hanging on this long and bouncing from team-to-team? Help or hurt his legacy? Do you wish you would have stayed around longer? Would you have played for anyone besides the Broncos?

John Elway
  (2:32 PM)

I think in the long run it will hurt his legacy, except if he were to come back and win the Super Bowl. Obviously, he wanted to play football, but the Packers didn't want him to be on the team. If the Packers still wanted him, he'd still be in Green Bay.

Dave (Boston)

are you hoping to get any special card from Topps?

John Elway
  (2:32 PM)

I've unlocked probably 12 cards so far. I would love to get the '65 Namath or Unitas. I have plenty of '84 Elways.

Russ (Miami, FL)

John, were you surprised when coach Shanahan was let go, or did you see it as one of those things where it was time to freshen things up in Denver, and bring in a new voice and coach to lead the franchise?

John Elway
  (2:33 PM)

I was surprised just because of the fact that Pat Bolan said Mike Shanahan would be his coach for life. But looking back on it and the last four years he had in Denver, he was .500. They were on the same trend of starting fast and fading. Looking back on it, it doesn't surprise me.

Greg P (Staten Island,NY)

John, can you name someone who you would have loved to play w/at one time in your career whether it be an off. or def player?

John Elway
  (2:34 PM)

I guess one guy I would have liked to have thrown to was Jerry Rice. I would have loved to have him as a target. Though Ed McCaffrey and Sharp were great targets for me late in my career.

Zach (New Canaan, CT)

better qb......u or andrew luck?

John Elway
  (2:35 PM)

Time will tell. I think he's still young in his career. He's got the potential to be the best guy that's come out of there. But time will tell. I think he'll have a great year this year. It's a toss up. I wouldn't trade what I had, put it that way.

Chris (Manhattan, KS)

Mr. Elway,I am a lifelong Broncos fan and I was curious how many of the guys you played with over the years you still speak with regularly, both from Denver and from Stanford. Thank you for your time.

John Elway
  (2:36 PM)

I do. I don't get a chance to spend a whole lot of time with them. Not a lot of Broncos that have stayed around after their career. I talk to Terrell and McCaffrey. I run into everyone periodically.

Kyle (VA)

Do you try Stink's salsa?

John Elway
  (2:36 PM)

You know I have not had a chance. He keeps saying he will send me some, but he hasn't. I haven't had a chance yet, but I want to.

Stephen (Atlanta)

What type of impact do you think Mike Shanahan is going to have for the Washington franchise?

John Elway
  (2:37 PM)

I think it will be positive. It's helped them to get McNabb. He's a winner and a top QB in this league. He's got to stay healthy. They'll play defense. They just need some more weapons for McNabb.

Adam (Albany)

Bigger moment in your career: "The Drive" or "The Dive?"

John Elway
  (2:38 PM)

The Dive, hands down. Even though The Drive put me on the map, The Dive helped us win a world championship.

Kai (Tennessee)

John, Do you ever wish or wonder what might have happened if you had chosen Baseball?

John Elway
  (2:38 PM)

I do wonder about that. I know a lot of my contemporaries that I played with went on to have MLB careers. But I went on to play QB, which is the best position you can play in pro athletics.

Drew (Indy)

Do you think Romo is the "one" to lead the cowboys, as a cowboy fan I Really have my doubts.

John Elway
  (2:39 PM)

I think he has the potential to do that. He hasn't been able to win a lot of playoff games yet. He has to prove it in the postseason. I like him as a football player and as a guy. I'm hopeful that he can get them over the hump.

Buddy (Denver, Co.)

Hi John, you're one of my heroes. What do you think makes a great QB--what are the early signs?

John Elway
  (2:40 PM)

Obviously, you need to know the position and throw the football. Making the plays at the right time. Leadership qualities. But you have to have the team around you. You can make an average team better, but you can't make an average team great.

John (Colorado Springs, Colrado)

John,Winning those Super Bowls must have been great. What was the secret?

John Elway
  (2:41 PM)

I think we just had a good combiation of offense, defense, special teams. We had a defense that was able to stop people. We had the running game with Davis. Everyone was on the same page with one goal in mind.

Vander (Chicago)

John, How fun would it have been to play in todays offensive friendly era and do you think the QBs are protected too much now? Thanks

John Elway
  (2:42 PM)

I think they've over done it with the QB. That's a real hard area because the QB is so important to the football team. They've gone a bit too far in protecting them. But the game is more exciting. It's changed quite a bit. It would have been fun to play in this era.

John Elway
  (2:42 PM)

Good talking to everybody!
