Sorry.. was late. stuck in Columbus traffic..let's get to it.
Shouldn't Terrelle Pryor have more or better things to worry about than whether LeBron James is getting booed? Is this just another example of where the kid's head is at?
He's still a college kid and this is an idol of his, so I understand his point to some extent. Obviously, you don't want any added distractions but I'm sure Tressel can handle that.
Bruce, does E Carolina's stadium renovations make it a more attractive school or does this have little impact on the Big East offering an invite to the Pirates?
It certainly helps, but a lot more would need to happen including other Big East teams getting pulled into other conferences.
What are the chances that Case Keenum gets the invite to New York? If for nothing else, career achievement.
Houston probably would need to be at least 11-1 for that to happen.
Bruce: Here's the latest insult to be hurled at opponents by fans of any given school: Your team is so bad Bill Snyder is trying to schedule them against Kansas State.
Do you think Austin Pettis is now moving up some NFL team boards??
He's a big, smart WR with great hands. I doubt he'll run better than a 4.65 which will hurt, but he can play.
Bruce, how much leeway is Pouncey going to have this weekend? Two bad snaps and Urban moves him back to guard?
Good question. I'd guess that'd be about it. I feel like UF will respond well to a shaky WK 1 performance this week vs. USF.
Sorry. Columbus Traffic does suck. I am SOOOO sick of the discussion about "The Call". OSU fans have heard all about this since the day it happened. And anytime people mention our National Title in 2002 (2002/2003 Bowl Season), it is almost listed with an asterisk next to it. It really does ruin it for us, just so sportswriters have a reason to write up a story. Let's get the story straight.....at 2:25 left in the 4th quarter on a 3rd and 7, OSU got screwed. If the refs had called one of the two holding penalties on Miami's DB on Chris Gambe or ruled the play a catch as the replay showed, then OSU gets a first down with 2:18 left in the game and Miami with a single time out. Clock runs out, game over. Miami fans should be happy the game MADE IT to OT.
Thing I'd remind people of is Miami had four shots at the goal-line and didn't score. Regardless, that game ended a LONG time ago. It's 2010 and this should be a fun game here.
Would it be a win with the voters if Penn State can keep the game within 10 points while losing?
It would show they can be competitive in a hostile environment with such a young QB.. lots to build esp. when they have a couple other rough road trips upcoming in 2010.
If you had to pick an entrance song for Boise State, running through the smoke and the helmet onto the blue field with the sledge hammer... what would it be? Some say thunderstruck... what say you??
Who am I John Williams?
If Kendall Hunter stays healthy. Do you think he has a shot at Heisman?
He is a fantastic RB. Needs to stay healthy and they'd need to win 10. I talked to Dana Holgorsen when he got to OSU and he couldn't believe how good Hunter is.
To correct you on Austin Pettis's 40 time, Pro day this spring/summer he ran a 4.48 40, he typically has timed in the upper 4.4's low 4.5's consistently past couple years
We'll see what the NFL clocks him at.. lots of fast 40 times in college. He can play though.
What is the atmosphere like in C-Bus? Electric?
Awesome.. It's great CF country here. Listening to the local radio here it seems like a lot of folks are expecting OSU to roll, but I think they're looking forward to atmosphere around it.
Bruce, what was your bigger surprise last week Denard Robinson completing 19-22 passes or Michigans Defense holding UCONN to 10 and also what are your thoughts on this weekends game??
Being as sharp and decisive as he was. UCONN isn't a bad team and they had 8 starters back on D.
Oregon is favored by almost 2 TD's this week. I don't gamble, but that seems a little high. What do you think?
I think the Ducks will, but I could see UT keeping in close. Their DC knows the Ducks well from his days at Boise and I'm not sure how Oregon will handle 100,000 in the stands in that place.
The UNC rumors are starting to sound pretty bad, and if true, paint a much stronger picture of lack of institutional control compared to what was shown in the USC investigation. Do you think the NCAA would actually hammer UNC harder than USC? Or do you see USC's appeal being successful and UNC taking over the title of "most severely punished program" with a penalty on par with USC's current sanctions?
It depends on if they can pin a lot of this to the UNC staff knowing about it or, worse yet, being involved. John Blake resigning seems like a really bad sign for UNC. I said before the start of the season I had my doubts whether Butch Davis will still be the coach on Jan. 1 2011, and I feel like it's going more in that direction.
There were lots of mediocre performances by top teams during the 1st week. Which teams do you expect to rebound and do much better?
Why the lack of respect for Boise State? Travel across country and defeat a Top 10 team - they deserve respect! It wasn't like they were playing a team of dead corpses or something like that.
True. I think by now people get that they are a good team. They're tough, athletic, smart and very well coached. The sticking point is whether they are deserving of playing in the BCS title game? My doubts will come down to whether they have the best resume. And it's hard when you only play two strong teams. Will have to see just how good those wins over VT and perhaps Oregon State look three months from now.
Keenan Allen has the making of a star , they way he runs his routes is amazing he has size speed but his ability that sets him apart is he is able to wait for his blockers
He's certainly got people talking.
Considering that WV didn't look good last week against Coastal Carolina, is there a chance that tonight's game at Marshall might actually be worth watching?
Noel Devine's playing so regardless, it's worth watching.
I read the great article that breaks down the Boise offense from the link you provided. I have two questions: 1) is what they're doing really that different than other programs? 2) if Boise's offensive scheme is that good, why aren't other programs emulating it?
Teams don't use as much window-dressing as they do in large part I think because it's hard for some schools to put that much on their players. I know an assistant at one school who has a dynamic young player and said one of the reasons why he isn't as involved in the offense is because he's had a hard time grasping what his OC wants...As for the second part, I think some work a little of it in, but it's the volume of it that seems to spark Boise.
what is your take on the young UTES this year?
Good team, really well coached. Sound on D. Curious if their young QB will play this weekend because of the thumb inj. I think a real bright spot was the emergence of the OL and JC OT JOhn Cullen who lots of AQ teams wanted looked like the real deal vs. Pitt DEs.
Sammi or JWOW?
I actually watched that show for the first time the other day. It is entertaining. First time I watched MTV for more than 5 minutes in probably three years.
My road record and record versus SC speak for itself but all the polls and analysts picks have SC beating my dawgs. Is there something here I'm nto seeing?
You don't have AJ Green this time and you have a QB making his first SEC road start?
In our way-to-early predictions, If Boise goes undefeated and Va Tech ends up 8-4, and say Florida loses in Tuscalosa but wins the rematch in December, who would you give the nod to assuming there is only 1 other undefeated team?
8-4? I think UF would go ahead of Boise, but not sure.
Do you think any of the WAC teams have a chance against Boise State this season?
Fresno maybe, but I think their toughest in league game will be at Nevada. I know the Pack players weren't thrilled to hear the comparisons to VT saying it's like Nevada only with better athletes.
Is LSU's problem more Les Miles or Gary Crowton? I would have to say Crowton as he got ultra conservative with a 20 pt lead at halftime. However, it is Miles' fault for not firing him during the offseason.
It'd go more on Les. He's the guy making the big decisions.
What earns Saban an [almost] equal status to Bear? The tides of the Arabian Sea are crimson, too.
Two more BCS titles and I think that might do it.
Bruce,What were your impressions of BYU's 2 quarterback rotation against Washington? Can it work the entire year?
It can provided the Oline plays well. Not sure the Washington DL was as good as some other fronts they'll have to face.
Glad to hear your thoughts about AJ Green situation on Van Pelts show yesterday. Do you think the NCAA reduces his suspension to 2 games on appeal? 3?
I doubt it. Who he sold it to makes it sound worse.
Which defensive performance suprised you more in the Arch rivalry: Illinois bend but don't break in the 1st half, OR Mizzou's 2nd half shutout?
Illinois.. Mizzou has a much better offense because of Gabbert.
In N Out Burger (westcoast) or 5 guys (east coast)???
Five Guys is on the west coast too and I thought In n Out is a little better. I actually like the Counter better than both of them (another chain although it's pricier)..
Kick it to me!!!!!
I wouldn't! but I will include this good story I read yesterday.http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/college/seminoles/os-greg-reid-florida-state-20100908,0,586375,full.story
Is this the year Rich Rod puts things together in Michigan and reminds people of what he did at Tulane, Clemson, and WVU?
Yes, I think so, although I expect ND to beat them tomorrow. Too much talent in the passing game for Michigan, but after that the Wolverines should be strong for the next month as long as Denard Robinson's healthy.
Worst movie sequel- Caddyshack 2 or Major League 2?
Caddy Shack 2 was brutal. There was exactly one laugh in the whole movie. I've boarded flights that have been more humerous.
Did you watch the Auburn game last night? What do you think of the Tigers after the W in Starkville?
I like what I saw from Cam Newton and the Auburn D-line. It was entertaining but if MSU had any passing game they win that one. Too many drops and inaccurate passes from State.
Top 5 on your heisman watch?
Lets see if I can do this from memory of that column from Monday... Kellen Moore, Pryor, Ponder, Mallett, Patrick Peterson.
Does iowa get passed Arizona in 2 weeks?
Yes, I think so. I think their DL dominates the line.
player that might sneak in the heisman talk that nobody is talking about?
That nobody is talking about.. nobody talks about Daniel Thomas or John Clay. Can't say DeMarco Murray cause I know Herbie talked about it. Maybe Noel Devine.
Kellen Moore after one game, you have got to be kidding me
Yes, because it was after one game. That is the point of a Heisman watch.. it's fluid. It's along season. Relax.
I am going to get some free frequent flyer miles with all the yards I am going to get this weekend.
But will you D give up a ton of yards too?
Bruce, where is there a 5 guys on the west coast?.... I just moved back here from Florida.... L.A.?
There's one in Carson I know of and I think there's another in SC.
will be the better game: FSU/OU vs. Miama/OSU vs. PSU/Bama? Best game for the upset chance?
One of the first two. I think both of them will be tight for four quarters.
Hi Bruce. What is your personal favorite college football player of all time? You can go with who you think was the best college player of all time or who you liked to watch and was most electrifying when playing the game.
Off the top of my head.. I really was a big Deion fan once upon a time. I also liked Spielman and Earl Campbell.
Let Paul know we have 2 in Boise... =)
Do I break PSU's streak of non 100 yard rushers?
I think so, but I'm glad you pointed that out. Good stat watch for us.
Can the big ten shed the stupid label of not winning the big games by beating Miami and Alabama this week and having Michigan beat ND?
Beating Bama would do it. The other two wouldn't carry as much weight since UM is an ACC team and a 9.5 underdog and ND's not ranked at all.
True or False. Shannon has to win this weekend or the seat gets hot
False. Miami's an underdog. If UM people expect him to win this or else they might as well say if UM doesn't finish in the top four this year he's on the hot seat and I don't think it's close to there yet. If he went 8-4 this year it would get warm. 7-5 it would get hot.
What bout me? Do I break Bama's streak of 35 games without a 100 yd rusher?
I don't think so. Hard to get enough carries if your team falls too far behind.
Thoughts on the Michigan State program, and in particular, Kirk Cousins?
Very impressive guy. Great attitude. I expect him to be an NFL QB someday.. not bad for having ZERO offers when his ended his senior season of HS.
Who got the better end of the deal... Utes to Pac12 or BYU to independent?
I think Utah. The Utes are in better position to try and compete for a BCS title.
Deion was great, but my favorite player ever was Peter Warrick. Thoughts on him?
He was exciting. Surprised he didn't do much in the NFL.
Do you think ND's defense is better than UCONN'S?
I feel like it will be this year.
For the Big 12 and teams like A and M, Ok State and Texas Tech, how critical is this season to ensuring the conference has a dominant or at least respectible third team post 'Brasky?
It is very important although NU was down for a while so I'm not sure the perception gap was quite there.
my bad bruce, i shoulda checked out the column, love your stuff by the wayHow come you are not doing bowl projections along with Schlabach?
That was a grind and the hardest thing for me to juggle in. It had to be done Sunday mornings and I have to file the morning after blog the same time while also usually travelling home form the game the day before. It was just logistically really hard for me to do with four and five-hour flights mixed in at the same time.
Does Baylor make a bowl?
I think so, as long as Griffin stays healthy this year.
Ever talked to Mark Dantonio? What do you think of him as a coach, being tutored under both Saban and Tressel? He really has MSU moving in the right direction based on attitude?
I have a few times. I don't know him well at all. I do think he's a very solid coach and is building a good foundation there, but can they rise up the way Iowa and Wisconsin have to be a top 15 caliber team?
Bruce, that was a really great quote from Jay Paterno in yesterday's blog, it's really nice to humanize the titans of the sport with heartwarming stories...I would love to see more of that!
It was a great story he did, and I've heard from a lot of folks who really liked that.
What are the chances that Patrick Peterson wins the Heisman or at least gets invited to NY?
He's a longshot. Any defensive player is. He needs to be the best player on the field and for them to upset Bama to probably get to NYC.
Three more questions... gotta run over to OSU campus.
Tyrod Taylor's chances for Heisman??
I don't see it. He would've had to have won that game the other night. Not sure any other game he plays in will be as visible.
I honestly believe Oregon will lose this game! Cal thought they were going to come in and handle business a few years back, and they got run out of the state. UT is going to be physical on defense and pound the ball on offense. If this happens game over!
I'm not sure this Tennessee team has the players that one did.
Any thoughts on Kentucky? They have a dynamic 1-2 punch in Cobb and Locke. The defense is young, but appears to have more speed than in the past. I think they could win 8-9 games this year.
They're both really exciting players. I dont think they have the D to win that many but I think seven wins is realistic.
Thanks for all of the questions. If I didn't get to yours, send it to me on Twitter at BFeldmanESPN.
