Chat with Bryan Broaddus

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:30 AM)

Thanks for everyone that has joined me today. Love the ability to visit with fans from all over the world. I will do my best to get to all your questions. Some of you have the same concerns so maybe I can provide one lets get started.

Ricky (Hampton, VA)

What about Logan Mankins? Can/what is the likelyhood that they swing a deal for him? Are the even interested? And what about McNeill in San Diego?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:31 AM)

I talked with several memebers ofd the front office...there will be no deals for McNeil or Mankins. As bad as it seems, they will go with what they have.

SprungOnSports (Long Island)

How will Dallas handle Chicago's front seven and gain the confidence needed to make more downfield throws?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:34 AM)

This Chicago game will be a huge challenge for this line. In studying the Bears, theirfront seven is very active. The problems Davis and Gurode have is games is with quickness. The Bears really attacked the middle of the pocket vs the Lions

Ty (Scotsdale, AZ)

Does Jason Williams really take Lee's place on the inside? The same guy who was lost in space in the pre-season? Any notion Lee will be hampered throughout the year?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:36 AM)

The Cowboys will need to address the situation with Brooking. He played like he was in a car wreck each play. Very physical. For 16 games, that is asking alot. Lee has me shaking my head.

Tony (iowa)

are they interested in bringing back Mcann or Gorden to the 53 man roster and who would they cut

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:37 AM)

Was told that if they bring McCann back it would be for the practice squad. He needs to clear waivers today by 3pm CST to make that happen.

Dave (Rochester NY)

Bryan,Won't the ref's typically not call penalties when there 0 seconds left on the clock?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:38 AM)

Dave...there is no way that Corrente couldn't make that was dead, right in front of him.

Dave (Rochester NY)

Whats the chances Colombo and or Kosier play Sunday? Will Barron be active or will Brewster move into the back up role?

Joe (Dallas)

How happy is David Buehler that no one is talking about his missed 34 yd FG?

Russll (Moreno Valley)

Everyone is harping on Barron's mistake but don't you think the game should have been in the bag long before the holding incident.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:47 AM)

There were plenty of chances before that last play. Austin was open two different times.

Sonny (Chicago)

Should I start Devin Aromashodu vs Dallas in my fantasy league?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:48 AM)

Aromashodu had a nice game against the Lions. He is a good player out of the slot. Cowboys corners are better than the Lions.

Scott (Palm City FL)

It it realistic to see the cowboys try and deal Roy Williams, maybe someone like min would be interested?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:49 AM)

The Cowboys are not going to deal Roy Williams. He will get this year and they will make that call after the season, good or bad.

Tony (iowa)

are the cowboys interested in a veteran kicker like stover or brown if he continues to struggle

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:50 AM)

Coach Joe D does have a plan...I asked him the very same question. He will not let Buehler cost this squad games.

Matt (Meridian)

Can we move Davis to right tackle? I want to keep Holland in the starting lineup.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:52 AM)

Davis wants nothing to do with right or left tackle. Just ask him...I don't see the team moving him outside.

Bill (Severna Park MD)

Bryan, why does Dallas have match up issues with the Skins defense.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:54 AM)

A lot has to do with Santana Moss and Chris Cooley. Moss against the Cowboys has a real feel for how to find open space in that secondary. Cooley can't run away from you but his hands are so dependable.

Scott (Albany NY)

How is D Ware? Any major concerns about how he will play this week?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:55 AM)

Ware missed practice yesterday. Should be back out today. Have not heard anything saying that he wasn't going to play.

Todd(PA) [via mobile]

What's ur take on Roy from a scouts take he still does make some plays but does Irvin have a point that Dallas is better with Roy on the sidelines.Dez Miles Ogletree have a lot of speed n Witten 's the 4th WR?...

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:57 AM)

Ogletree needs to learn how to be a pro. You can see the talent, the route he ran at the end of the game was solid. It just takes more than running a good route. Jerry is banking that he ca be better than Patrick Crayton.

Phillyboijr (San Jose, California)

Hi, you said earlier that Sean Lee has you "shaking your head." Could you please expound on that?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:00 PM)

I just think its a shame that Lee can't stay healthy right now. This team will need him to step up and take some snaps for Brooking and James. He can't develop on the sidelines, he needs to play.

Adam (Los Angeles)

Are there any weapons on this Bears squad that should actually scare the Cowboys defense? Johnny Knox doesn't exactly send shivers down my spine...

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:03 PM)

The Bears have WRs that can run. They will cover some ground. Hester and Aromashodu are developing. Forte is a weapon out of the back field and Greg Olsen is a decent TE.

Scott (Palm City FL)

Im not saying Marion barber is old but in the few carries he got last week he look like the Marion of old, with a little giddy up. What did you think of marion last week and going foward?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:04 PM)

The Cowboys offensive coaches will continue to play these running backs in the rotation they currently have. Would like to have seen them try to run the ball a little more the other night. The TD was set up off play action with good runs.

Tammy (Chicago)

Dont you think Dez should be running routes that allow him to catch the ball on the move? He has such great yard-after-catch potential. His feet are in cement when he's catching these quick "smoke" screens. He needs slants and posts. Save the screens for Roy. Do you agree?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:06 PM)

Dez on the move is always a good deal. Two of those screen passes to Dez were "sight adjusts" by Romo. Hall did a nice job of defending the play.

Will Jason Williams the 3rd round pick ever see the field if Bradie doesn't get hurt. Whats this kids story, I hear he's athletic but why can't he cover tight ends?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:08 PM)

In Jason Williams case, it hard to play in the scheme when you don't know what you are doing. You can be a great athlete but if you miss can they play you?

Rob (Chicago)

Is it realistic to assume Julius Peppers will break the single game sack record in this game?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:09 PM)

Don't forget about Mark Anderson...he looks like a good player too. The Cowboys tackles will have their hands full this weekend.

Jazz (England)

What would YOU do at right tackle? do you really think Barron will recover? Is he interested because at this stage in his career, he should not get beat the way he did! He looked like it was his first game in the NFL and worse, he looked like he didnt care! then is Colombo going to be ready? I keep reading he will not. Brewster? Young? trade? thanks in advance mate! Love listening to what you have to say!

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:13 PM)

Thanks for the read across the pond...Barron was brought in to be the swing tackle. I see what the club was trying to do because Brewster or Young just isn't ready. Colombo had some struggles in pre season then got hurt. The thing you have to hope is that Colombo can come back better with that knee cleaned out.

Wade Phillips (Dallas)

I'm in OVER MY HEAD!!! BB, don't you think i'm better served as just the defensive coordinator? Do you really think I lead a team to the Super Bowl?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:15 PM)

Coach...I think you are an outstanding defensive coordinator....but its also your job to manage the game. If the OC wants to throw a Hail Mary...its your job to tell him no...but you know what...I dont blame you, I blame the man that hired you.

Oscar (California)

How can the Cowboys more effectively utilize Witten? Do you think he was asked too often to stay in and help block? Isn't that the same story we heard last season?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:17 PM)

I counted 10 different times that Witten had to stay in and help block. When he has to stay...its not good for the offense.

Matt (Meridian)

that's the lamest excuse i've ever heard

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:18 PM)

Tex (duh)

Why the lack of interest in Mankins or McNeil? They are young and talented, although not cheap.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:20 PM)

You answered your own question...its about money. I do believe that you will see this team address the OL situation in the 2011 NFL Draft.

darren bailey (baltimore)

you just said that you blame jerry for what happened at the end of the 1st half. How do you justify this? or is jerry just a punching bag?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:21 PM)

I blamed Jerry for hiring a head coach that can't make a decision, or is not allowed to make a decision.

Corey (Houston)

Bryan, I want to know how you think Chris Gronkowski's role will progress this year. I liked his run out of the endzone when the skins punt pegged the boys deep.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:22 PM)

I loved Gronkowski in camp...happy to see him making this team. It is the hope of the club that he might develop into that John Phillips role. He has good timed speed and hands.

Nick (Dallas, TX)

Should we stop having Dez returning punts and kicks?I think we should take him off returns for two reasons: 1) He is prone to injury (ie - 2 injuries in his first 30 days of NFL practice) 2) I know it was his first crack at it but I didn't see anything so electrifying from him that would make it worth the risk, did you? I'm interested to know your thoughts.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:24 PM)

He has a chance to be an impact player. As a personnel guy, you have to hold your breath because its hard to replace players like that. The more he plays in the offense the less he will play on special teams.

Sam (Washington, D.C.)

Is this team ever going to figure out a way to use Bennett in the passing game more? How do you compare Bennett to Finley up in Green Bay?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:25 PM)

Finley is a better player...

Matt Stover (Onmywaytodallas, TX)

If Bueler misses a fg Sunday, is my cell phone blowin' up Monday morning or is his leash longer than one more game?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:26 PM)

Keep practicing may get that call before you know it.

Scott (Palm City FL)

Do you think getting back koiser and colombo will be a great improvement? These are two guys who have played alot of games for the cowboys and alot of games with the other couple guys on the line. Dont you think that continuity will bring sucess?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:29 PM)

I really think that you hit the nail on the head about continuity...that really is the most important thing. Davis is use to playing next to Colombo. Free and Kosier will be a good combo too. Both are athletes on that side.

Mark (Chicago)

How will Jason Garrett game plan to stop Peppers? Word on the street is Julius was last seen foaming at the mouth while watching game film of the Dallas offensive line.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:30 PM)

If the Cowboys secondary can hold up and make Cutler hold the ball, his line will struggle to protect him thus you have the chance for turnovers.

Sam (Washington, D.C.)

To follow up your comment about Finley just being a better player than Bennett, do you think Bennett can develop into that kind of TE pass-catching wise? If not, then why did they not trade him to Cincy last year for the 1st rd pick?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:32 PM)

The Bennett deal is a urban myth...

Jesse (Midland Texas)

Bryan, what kind of mentality do the Cowboys have going into this game. Do they feel like this is a very winnable game? Just saying, they have Houston next...

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:34 PM)

In the locker room yesterday, the attitude was good. Need to find a way to get the Bears game but it will be a struggle. Lose this one and then you have back to back difficult ones in Houston and Tennessee.

Blake (Abilene, TX)

Would you give me a Rangers opinion? With the injury to Hamilton could you see Washington in the playoffs playing Vlad at LF Cruz at RF and Murphy at CF or do you think he will stick with Borbon.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:37 PM)

Blake...we have some great writers at ESPN that answer all kinds of baseball questions...make sure your follow them for all your Rangers news...thanks for all the questions folks...have a good day and see you next week.
