Chat with AJ Mass

AJ Mass
  (11:00 AM)

Greetings and salutations, one and all. We're here for the next sixty minutes for as much fantasy chattage as we can get to. Second cup of coffee in hand; call it in the air...

Jax (SC)

What does Maroney do to Knowshon's value? I was offered Knowshon for Flacco. (Have Cutler) Rbs: CJ, Matthews, Stewart.

AJ Mass
  (11:02 AM)

I don't think he has too much impact on Knowshon. More likely Buckhalter is in trouble of becoming irrelevant. As for the trade, always better to get the starting RB than a middle of the road QB.

DY (St. Louis)

A.J. - Who should I start this week at RB - Caddy Williams or J. Stewart?

AJ Mass
  (11:03 AM)

Daily Show. I think the Panthers will run a lot - even more than usual - to take heat off their concussed QB.

Leif (Los Angeles)

What is your take on cuffing your stud? always, depends on your other RB's or never?

AJ Mass
  (11:05 AM)

Green Bay's situation shows why handcuffs are a good idea for any RB who is the clear-cut No. 1. However for teams where there is a heavy rotation, like Seattle and New England, there's no need.

Doug (D.C.)

Hate asking line-up questions but here goes: Ricky Williams (vs. Min) or Shonn Green (vs. NE) this week?

AJ Mass
  (11:06 AM)

I think Greene will be fine. Don't overreact to the MNF game and think he's not going to get at least same number of carries as LDT. As long as he doesn't fumble again, he'll post solid stats.

Dan (NY, NY)

I have Kolb and someone else has Vick. I'm going to wait it out bc Reid says the position is his. For this week, do I got with Vince Young or Jay Cutler off the waiver wire? And who would be better long term out of those two?

AJ Mass
  (11:08 AM)

Cutler. Chris Johnson takes away most of the possible fantasy points for the Titans.

Captain Fantasy (Lancaster)

AJ, If (big if) Forsett became the goto back in Seattle 15-20 carries a game is he a top 15 RB? Thanks!!

AJ Mass
  (11:09 AM)

Captain Fantasy has a better chance at becoming the go-to back in Seattle. It's simply not going to happen.

Brian (Tampa)

Hakeem Nicks=REAL DEAL, True or False

AJ Mass
  (11:10 AM)

True, if by real deal you mean a solid No. 1 NFL receiver. However, expect him to get only about 12 TD overall this year.

Erik (IL)

Who should I start as my 3rd RB this week: Portis, McFadden, or Spiller?

AJ Mass
  (11:12 AM)

Run DMC. Who knows what Cable will do when Bush is back to 100 percent, but for now, it looks like McFadden is motivated to try and make it impossible to sub him out. Ride it for now.

Ryan Mathews (San Diego)

Do I worry about my performance or will I have a good season?

AJ Mass
  (11:13 AM)

First time out, in the rain, I think you did quite well. They can't all be Arian Foster out of the gate.

Alex (Baltimore)

Should I sit Mike Sims-Walker in favor of Mike Wallace or Aromashodu?

AJ Mass
  (11:15 AM)

Until Garrard starts looking for MSW instead of Mike Thomas you do. (I prefer Aromashadu.) It's not the lack of catches that concerns me with MSW, it's the low number of targets, meaning he's not even getting open.

Tim Hightower (Arizona)

Am I going to be fantasy relevant if beanie is healthy?

AJ Mass
  (11:16 AM)

I think so... especially if the fact Beanie has been hurt allows you to continue to be the goal-line option.

Erik (Ohio)

Given Owen Daniels played almost the entire game, can we insert him in our line up this week? (I'm ignoring 1 catch last week as they ran all day).

AJ Mass
  (11:17 AM)

It's tight end so the risk is not as high as if we were talking RB1. I still want to see him take a few more hits and run after catch a bit more, but certainly signs are good so far.

Jennifer (Tampa)

Thoughts on Jimmy JOhnson on Survivor? and Vick, Anderson, or Orton for this week only?

AJ Mass
  (11:19 AM)

Kyle Orton would be my choice - I don't think Vick does as well with the Lions prepping for him. As for JJ, he may last a few weeks, but at some point, his $$$ will be the reason for his ouster.

James (Philly)

For the v. jackson-less chargers, who do you think will have a better fantasy season: Naanee or Floyd?

AJ Mass
  (11:20 AM)

Floyd. I'm not even 100 percent sure Naanee continues to start once Crayton gets familiar with the playbook.

Kevin (charlotte)

AJ - hook me up, can you call the Marlins and let them know that I can't DL Josh Johnson until they do? Don't these teams understand what us fantasy guys are going through?

AJ Mass
  (11:21 AM)

You're likely out of luck, Kevin. It's rare teams use the DL once the rosters have expanded.

Dom (Minneapolis)

With Kolb and Stafford out this week does it hurt McCoy or Best more?

AJ Mass
  (11:22 AM)

My guess is that it hurts Shady more, simply because the Lions will be more apt to look run versus pass, given the Vick skill set.

Jerome Harrison (WHAT THE HECK?)

What is my value going forward? Who is they Hillis character and why is he taking touches from me? Am I startable in 12 team leagues? Would you rather have me or Hillis the rest of the way?

AJ Mass
  (11:24 AM)

The Browns don't like Harrison. It's clear, since they drafted Hardesty in the first place. I expect a 50-50 split again in Week 2, but if Hillis comes out of this one better, expect Harrison to get less and less.

brian (boston)

Should R. Moss be benched this weekend since he is going up against Revis?

AJ Mass
  (11:26 AM)

No, he shouldn't. Let's assume Revis is as good as he can be... that's still not a guarantee he covers Moss all game, and you don't bench a receiver of Moss' quality regardless of the opponent.

John (Dallas)

Do I need to look elsewhere w/ Tex's broken toe?

AJ Mass
  (11:28 AM)

No, he's had the injury for a few weeks now, and from what I've heard it bothers him more in the field. He'll play and his swing isn't going to be affected too much.

Larry (Jersey Shore)

How about some love for the Commish's Court? What do you do about less-involved owners in a 12 team keeper league? They are paying owners?Cutler or Eli this week?

AJ Mass
  (11:30 AM)

Eli, especially with big brother likely forcing him to play catch up all day long. As for keeping owners involved... define "less-involved". As long as they set lineups each week and don't keep injured guys in the game, you can't legislate "mandatory trading".

Anthony (Brunswick, OH)

Mendenhall was averaging a measly 3 yards per carry before his 50 yard TD scamper in OT and now Max Starks is going to miss time. Is he in trouble or can the smash mouth Steelers continue to play their brand of football and keep him a top ten back?

AJ Mass
  (11:31 AM)

I don't think you can really pass judgment until Big Ben comes back. If he can struggle by for another three games, after the bye this will be a much different offense.

Eric (Chicago)

AJ, I have the same problem as Larry, but many of those owners are in the bottom half (imagine that!), one is starting Strasburg, one is starting K-Rod. Thoughts?

AJ Mass
  (11:32 AM)

You an always do a "prize" for best month of September. That at least gives everyone a fighting chance.

Travis (Nashville)

Baseball?? Need your "commish" opinion: Trying to convince my 12-team league to change into a keeper league next season, but I've been in one myself. Any suggestions for a fair/user-friendly set up?

AJ Mass
  (11:33 AM)

Never switch mid-stream. In other words, next year, you draft from scratch with the knowledge that you'll have X number of keepers for the following season.

Perez (Tulsa)

Do I start Best, Spiller or Jacoby Jones at my flex position?

AJ Mass
  (11:35 AM)

I like Jacoby Jones. I expect the Texans to throw the ball a lot this week and I'd rather have Jones than Walter.

Sam (Wyoming)

So Sunday after the injury to Grant, I picked up Jackson. Yesterday when it was announced the extent of the injury, I felt proud of myself for being the first to make the move. Should I feel guilty as a human being for the joy I felt when I heard "out for the season"?

AJ Mass
  (11:35 AM)

Yes, yes you should. For shame, Sam.

Keith (Jacksonville)

Is Kenny Britt

AJ Mass
  (11:36 AM)

No, no he's not.

Tim (NC)

I drafted Golden Tate (who didn't play in week 1) should I drop him for Brandon Tate, Mike Thomas, or another "sleeper"?

AJ Mass
  (11:37 AM)

If you're in a non-keeper, go for Thomas.

Jeremy (NYC)

In terms of the selling high on Foster - would you trade him for Moreno and Colston - half ppr league, colston would be replacing MSW as a flex. Thanks AJ.

AJ Mass
  (11:38 AM)

That trade I would make, but in general, although I don't think we ever see a game like that from Foster again this season, it's not like I expect 40 yards per game from this point on. He should be a solid No. 2 back at least.

Robby (Orlando)

Fill in the blank: Ahmad Bradshaw will go for ___ yards and ___ TD's against the colt's D

AJ Mass
  (11:40 AM)

93 and 1

Bryan (New Orleans)

More Foster! You see him as a #2? so you would definitely trade him for someone like SJax? What about a Mathews or Mendenhall type?

AJ Mass
  (11:42 AM)

If you can get a top-5 back - a proven back - for a guy who has done it for one whole game, how can you not make that deal. Someone wants to give you CJ or AP for Foster, you jump. But if you passed on Mendenhall or Mathews in your draft, why make the deal now?

Mark (Oregon)

What are your thoughts on not playing a kicker in favor of not dropping another position player who is solid?

AJ Mass
  (11:43 AM)

If you are supposed to start a kicker to make a legal lineup, and you choose to leave the spot vacant, then in my opinion, you should be given some sort of penalty.

JP (NYC)

Your thoughts on the 3 headed monster that is the Dallas backfield?

AJ Mass
  (11:46 AM)

Choice may well be traded if the offer is right. I think MB-triple sticks looked far better than I've seen him in some time. Leaning to him over Felix right now.

Jamaal Charles (1st Round Pick 2011)

How long until I am unleashed as the number one RB for my team?

AJ Mass
  (11:47 AM)

Carries should be 50-50. Chiefs will be doing what is best for Chiefs, and that's not overworking Charles, especially when they are winning.

Joel (Michigan)

Miles Austin looked like a beast Sunday Night. Top 3 WR ?

AJ Mass
  (11:49 AM)

Absolutely, especially once Bryant learns his routes a little better.

Jeremy (Doylestown, PA)

do you forsee Scott taking over for Benson?

AJ Mass
  (11:50 AM)

Not unless there's an injury. Bengals were so far back in Week 1, you can't really put too much weight on that performance.

Ryan (MASS)

What to do with HOUSH????

AJ Mass
  (11:52 AM)

It was only one week, but I don't see him doing better than WR3 in Baltimore. He's talented, yes, and Mason may run out of gas, but there's no room at the Ravens Inn.

Alan (Manhattan)

Baseball! please rank for the last couple of weeks: Abiles, Eric Young, K. Johnson at 2B

AJ Mass
  (11:53 AM)

Hate Kelly going forward. I'd go with Aviles.

Deckard (LA)

Crabtree, Aromashadu or Best as flex this week?

AJ Mass
  (11:53 AM)

When in doubt, go with the lead back.

Steve (Chicago)

Brandon Jackson is a definite start this week?

AJ Mass
  (11:55 AM)

Absolutely. The Packers are a passing team, first and foremost, so they're not needing the RB to kick-start the pass, but rather the other way around. Jackson *should* do what Grant would have done, give or take.

George (Juno)

Waiver Wire! I had to manually change it this week bc for whatever reason it did not update to inverse order of standings. I was 4th but still managed to get BJax. Someone noticed it was manually changed by the commish and said that it was fishy but I think that its only fair losing teams get the first waivers. Good or no?

AJ Mass
  (11:56 AM)

Assuming that you "just decided" this, you're in the wrong for making the switch. You should have posted a note when you made the change stating what and why you were doing it. Not doing so makes it look shady, and I understand the uproar, even if your intentions were good.

Trent (WA)

Big Brother prediction?

AJ Mass
  (11:57 AM)

Hayden wins over both. Enzo beats Lane.

Brian (IN)

Drop Berrian for Collie?

AJ Mass
  (11:59 AM)

Yes. I never understood the Berrian love, and although Garcon/Collie will rotate big weeks some, over the long run, I'd feel safer with Indy's receivers.

Earl (South Carolina)

Will people who drafted Kevin Kolb to their fantasy team be disappointed this season?

AJ Mass
  (11:59 AM)

I'd say they already are, no?

Ernie (Richmond, VA)

Amendola or McCluster as a flex play this week in a ppr league that also counts return stats?

AJ Mass
  (12:00 PM)

McCluster.

VP (NYC)

2 best options this week? J. Charles vs. CLE, L. McCoy vs. DET, or A. Foster vs. WAS? thanks for the advice!

AJ Mass
  (12:00 PM)

Sit McCoy.

david (nyc)

i can get ronnie brown for wes welker in a non ppr, do it?

AJ Mass
  (12:00 PM)

I would not.

Alex (Sacramento,CA)

Start Dez this week over Lee Evans?

AJ Mass
  (12:01 PM)

No, I'd give Evans a shot, but I'm not thrilled with saying this.

AJ Mass
  (12:02 PM)

That's the whistle. Thanks to all who asked Q's. Over 2500 asked, so there's no way we can get to them all. I usually try to answer on Twitter, so you can try me there. Until the next time... Be Seeing You!
