Chat with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (4:00 PM)

Good afternoon! Let's talk some football!

12th place in my league (MI)

All the experts keep saying "it's only week 2" but how long are we supposed to wait for a player to perform? How many more 40 yards games from D. Bowe must i suffer through before it's panic time?

KC Joyner
  (4:01 PM)

In a 13-week season, two weeks in can be the time to be concerned (never panic). Regarding Bowe, he should never have been considered a strong option given how poor Cassel has performed on vertical passes over the years.

Jim (Boston)

Devin Hester, Louis Murphy or Steve Breaston this week? Also have Aromashodu but don't trust him after last week

KC Joyner
  (4:03 PM)

The issue with Hester is that the lineup matchup says Charles Woodson will cover him. He'll probably get moved to the slot, however, and Woodson may not go with him, but that's still a risk. I'd probably go Breaston.

brian (de)

I'll keep my question simple... Maclin or Sims Walker? And I assume Collie over both and sit Knox.

KC Joyner
  (4:03 PM)

Maclin. His matchup is solid and one game does not get MSW out of the TFS doghouse. And do start Collie over both and sit Knox.

Daniel (Lexington)

Happy Football Friday KC! Here's a good problem to have- I'm in a stacked 8 team league, and somebody dropped Jonathan Stewart (!). Should I drop Felix Jones or Justin Forsett to pick him up off waivers?

KC Joyner
  (4:04 PM)

Tough call because the Carolina O has stunk this year. I might not drop either but if push came to shove I'd drop Forsett (Jones has too much upside to let go).

Gray (Chicago)

Big flex issue, no great options but Fred Jackson, Ricky Williams, Brandon Jacobs, or Mike Wallace?

KC Joyner
  (4:05 PM)

Ouch. I'd probably go with Jackson since all of the others are huge risks (although any Buffalo RB could be a risk as well).

Biff (in 1955)

Hello, McFly?

KC Joyner
  (4:05 PM)

That's our movie reference for the day!

briscoe (carmichael)

time to play maroney now that moreno is out? been on my dynasty team 4 years and laughed at every time i play him.......just once would like him to be a stud so can laugh back

KC Joyner
  (4:06 PM)

Only issue is that he is on the injury report and could be listed as questionable. Make sure he's going to play before you put in that final roster lineup.

Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)

Which Denver WR(s) are worth starting this weekend?

KC Joyner
  (4:07 PM)

Demaryius Thomas. I've seen enough tape on him to say that he is every bit as good of a WR as Hakeem Nicks. He's still available in a ton of leagues as of last check - get him if you can!

Pepperoni (Roll)

KC, which one of Johnny Knox, Kevin Walter, and Hines Ward should I start this week?

KC Joyner
  (4:08 PM)

For those who weren't here yesterday, the pepperoni roll comment was the comment of the day in the Thursday chat. Walter is one of the highest rated starts on my start-sit charts (available for order at www.thefootballscientist.com).

SPE(Fresno) [via mobile]

Is Mathews going to be out this weekend with that high ankle sprain? And is addai going to be a Good to go? He missed Wednesdays pracitcenand was limited yesterday?

KC Joyner
  (4:09 PM)

Last word I heard is that he'll likely be out (Mathews, that is). Addai could be good to go, haven't seen the injury reports for today just yet.

Eric (Chicago)

"KC, since your new here, I'm gonna cut you a little slack. Now, make like a tree and get outta here"...Garcon is questionable, roll with him or keep the MJD/Charles/Bradshaw group this week (Jennings, Nicks are starters, Naane/Ward bench)?

KC Joyner
  (4:10 PM)

I really like his matchup (Denver could be going with rookie CBs) but questionable is questionable. Go with the healthy players.

Jason (Bmore)

Will Owen Daniels ever have value? He started the year off with a blast last year, got hurt, and pretty much never has been the same. If healthy, will schaub continue to target him?

KC Joyner
  (4:11 PM)

In a word, yes. Daniels is seeing more targets every week. I would think he will be a good start option in October.

George (Dallas)

Witten or Celek the rest of the year?

KC Joyner
  (4:12 PM)

Witten. Vick likes to play favorites when picking who to throw to and Celek just hasn't seemed like a favorite just yet.

Angelo (Cleveland)

Harvin or Walter who do i start

KC Joyner
  (4:12 PM)

Harvin is hurting and Walter has a favorable matchup. Got to do Walter.

Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)

The flux capacitor is what makes time travel possible!!! I've started Brett Favre for two consecutive weeks in our league. Should I get over it and find someone else to start???

KC Joyner
  (4:13 PM)

Not yet. He's got Detroit this week and, even though the Lions are playing better D in a lot of ways, their coverage is still very suspect. If Favre lays an egg this week, it will be time to move on.

Tony (NYC)

KC, tough call this week, i have DeAngelo, Portis and Foster, need 2. Im leaning towards Portis and Foster

KC Joyner
  (4:14 PM)

I'd agree. The Panthers back should be avoided if at all possible until that offense gets back on track.

Ronnie (Chicago)

KC, pick up Demaryius Thomas and drop Wallace? And do i start Thomas over Sims-Walker? That's where I'm in a gray area. How gray? Charcoal.

KC Joyner
  (4:15 PM)

Yes on Thomas over Wallace - I like Wallace a lot but he won't give you value for three more weeks (when Ben returns). Very hard to say on Thomas over MSW, probably would go with MSW, but I still don't quite trust him.

Bill (Fort Atkinson, WI)

KC, your Start/Sit update has me sitting at 2-0! Thanks. I'm a Moreno owner without his handcuffs. Should I start Peyton Hillis, Thomas Jones or Justin Forsett this week?

KC Joyner
  (4:16 PM)

Glad I could help! I'd go with Forsett this week. On a totally unrelated note, I am finally going to be taking Mrs. Scientist and the kids to Outback. Gonna head out there after the chat.

Ronnie (Chicago)

Is it time to drop VJax in non-keeper leagues?

KC Joyner
  (4:17 PM)

Yes. AJ Smith is playing hardball and it is very likely that will keep Jackson off the field for the entire season.

Frank (Pittsburgh)

Who is backing up Charlie Batch? Maybe they can roll out Bernie from a Weekend at Berines. Yes, a 5th string QB=Dead Corpse.

KC Joyner
  (4:17 PM)

And yet they still have a great chance at beating TB because of how great their D is.

Zack (RI)

Your really high on Demaryius Thomas eh KC? I feel like Orton has too many weapons for him to be effective. Please convince me to play him over Addai, LT, or Driver.

KC Joyner
  (4:19 PM)

Thomas is big (6'2", 229 pounds) and has the speed to run past most CBs. He runs the entire route tree and his size helps him get plenty of YAC on short routes. I can't stress strongly enough how good I think this guy will be. Driver is rated really high this week, so you could start him over Thomas, but Thomas will be someone you will be glad you acquired over the long haul.

Outback Snitch (Restaurants all over the world)

The blooming onion is one of the most unhealthy menu items in the country. Get two.

KC Joyner
  (4:20 PM)

I love the Bloomin' Onion but Mrs. Scientist does not like onions (any kind, not just the Bloomin' ones). May have to skip on that this evening.

Ian (DC)

KC!!! You just told Tony from NY to BENCH Deangelo Williams for Portis? I don't think Portis could get 100 yards rushing against Middle Tennesee state right now?

KC Joyner
  (4:21 PM)

Have you seen the Carolina offense? It is abysmal. At least with Washington he's got a chance to take part in an offense that can move the ball. It's the best of two poor options, sir.

Marty McFly (on my skateboard )

Breaston OR Garcon if both healthy?

KC Joyner
  (4:22 PM)

My sons are Back to the Future fans big time, so they'll get a kick out of all of these references! If both are fully healthy (and that's a big if), Garcon.

Floyd (cali)

Demaryius Thomas or Sims Walker the rest of the season?

KC Joyner
  (4:23 PM)

Thomas. He may hit the rookie wall at some point but over the next six weeks he should have some really good games.

Marc (Malden, MA)

I wish future me would give present me a Grey's Sports Almanac. Are Garcon and Kolb droppable?

KC Joyner
  (4:24 PM)

You'd win every league all the time! Drop Kolb but keep Garcon.

matt (mississippi)

Don't have a movie reference, but can i get answered anyways? Hightower, Buckhalter, or Dez Bryant? Pick 2 please

KC Joyner
  (4:25 PM)

Hightower and Dez. Taking a chance on Bryant but the Houston D can't cover this year.

Kim Deal (Bakersfield, California)

1.21 gigawatts of power! Great Scott!!I prefer the garlic bread served under the Shrimp on the Barbie!!!I really don't like Ronnie Brown's matchup and Beanie is going to play against the Raiders, though who knows how many touches he gets. I would you start?

KC Joyner
  (4:25 PM)

I'll have to try that garlic bread and shrimp - Mrs. Scientist is good with both of those choices! Take Brown over Beanie, just don't trust Wells because of the injury and how well Hightower is playing.

Rich (Free Marshawn HQ)

Mathews kinda leaves me up against it... S. Greene or Marshawn!?

KC Joyner
  (4:27 PM)

That is a tough one. I'd go Marshawn because Greene is facing a tough D and might not get many carries because of LT (although a similar thing could be said about Marshawn).

dave (home)

speaking of maroney, will he possibly become the no.2 back in denver and is he worth picking up?

KC Joyner
  (4:27 PM)

I'd take the chance on him but don't pay a big price for him (i.e. don't drop anyone with a good amount of known value).

daniel (s'port)

KC, I like the input you provided so far so I am curious. Would you start Vick or Favre and Forte or Mendenhall this week?

KC Joyner
  (4:28 PM)

I'd take Vick over Favre (like the matchup against the Jags) and Mendenhall over Forte (don't like the Chicago-GB matchup for Forte).

Mike (Philly)

No Back the Future reference. Would you recommend benching Nicks against Finnegan?

KC Joyner
  (4:29 PM)

In a word, no. Nicks is healthy again and although Finnegan is a solid CB, Nicks is a better WR.

Marc (Malden, MA)

"It's leave you idiot, make like a tree and LEAVE. You sound like a damn fool when you say it wrong."

KC Joyner
  (4:29 PM)

Just threw that out there for fun!

Zac (Boston)

All Aboard!!! You getting on the Aaron Hernandez hype train? We may not have enough room for you soon...

KC Joyner
  (4:30 PM)

Got him as a near must-start this week. Absolutely on board with him as a very good TE.

kevin (nj)

what caliber rb/wr can i get for jay cutler?

KC Joyner
  (4:30 PM)

Right now you should be able to get a near-elite. After Monday, that value could drop significantly.

Mark Berg (The Farm)

KC! Dallas or Broncos D? Hines Ward or Mark Clayton?

KC Joyner
  (4:31 PM)

Skip the Broncos D because of the injuries (at least Dallas will have healthy players in their matchup). You might even want to skip both of those Ds given their matchups. Clayton over Ward.

Rich (Free Marshawn HQ)

KC- where'd you get the Demar. Thomas insight? Didn't he just run flys at Tech?

KC Joyner
  (4:32 PM)

He did run a lot of flys but he also did well on short routes. I did an analysis on collegiate WRs last year for ESPN The Mag and had a chance to break down a few of his games.

Caramelo (CA)

I'll second the Shrimp on the Barbie!!I have Berrian and Braylon on my bench. I'm gonna drop one soon to make room. Any advice on which should go first?

KC Joyner
  (4:33 PM)

Braylon is the better player but he's got the off-field issues. I'd still probably keep him in the hope he'll stay on the field for a while.

Tom ((NY))

I'm sure you analyze matchups. 2 QB league... do I go with Henne vs NYJ or Anderson vs Oak???

KC Joyner
  (4:33 PM)

Ouch. Probably go with Henne just because he's the better QB.

Biff (California)

I have your car towed all the way across town and all you got for me is Lite beer? Better defense this week: Bengals, Dolphins, Saints.

KC Joyner
  (4:34 PM)

Bengals. Their week 2 showing is more what you should be able to expect from them all year. A rookie QB with no WRs and a struggling running game by Carolina also helps.

Bob (Boston)

Brandon Jacobs, can we officially drop him now

KC Joyner
  (4:35 PM)

I would. Odds that he turns things around quickly are slim.

Robert (Huntsville, Al)

I predicted before the season that the skins would have a top 5 d. I was looking like a genius until midway through the 3rd quarter last week. So am I a total idiot, or just an idiot and the last bit of that game was semi-flukish?

KC Joyner
  (4:35 PM)

It all could depend on Carlos Rogers. He has stunk in coverage this year and if that doesn't change, Washington will have more games like they did against Houston.

matt (61568)

Are you trying to tell me my mom has the hots for me? Who do you have the hots for on the Chi side this weekend if not Forte?

KC Joyner
  (4:37 PM)

That's a heckuva way to fit a movie reference in! I don't like much about Chicago's matchup because I'm convinced the Packers may have the best D in the NFL.

Steph (Layfaette, LA)

Best fantasy football team name ever: Somewhere over Dwayne Bowe!

KC Joyner
  (4:37 PM)

That's pretty good. Anyone out there top this?

leif (bottom of my league)

I need a better WR2 than hines ward and know about your love for Hakeem Nicks. Would you trade Either Beanie wells or Ronnie brown straight up for nicks? what if you had to throw in Maclin as well? thanks for the insight KC you da MAN!!!!

KC Joyner
  (4:38 PM)

Beanie for Nicks is a definite yes. Maclin and Beanie for Nicks is a very close to yes.

Cracklin Rozi (DC)

I need to name my two (potential) keepers for next season in a 12 team ppr league. I lose next year's draft pick in the round they were drafted this year. What two would you recommend between Santonio Holmes round 7; Sidney Rice round 12 and Sam Bradford round 13? Thanks.

KC Joyner
  (4:39 PM)

Bradford is the no-brainer there. For the other two, I'd probably go Holmes in that there is a concern of how good Rice will be once Favre retires.

Tom (NY)

Runner up Steph... Partridge in a Crabtree

KC Joyner
  (4:39 PM)

Very cool!

Marc (Malden, MA)

Legen...Dary

KC Joyner
  (4:40 PM)

A Barney Stinson reference, got to like that!

Todd (HB)

Smith NYG, Knox, or Demaryius?

KC Joyner
  (4:40 PM)

Demaryius.

KC Joyner
  (4:40 PM)

Assuming that was for this week, although I also like him to top that list for the rest of the year.

Mike (Philly)

Nope! Henne and the Jets!

KC Joyner
  (4:41 PM)

I like it!

Louia CK (New York)

You're convinced the Packers may have the best defense? Whoa! That must mean something.

KC Joyner
  (4:41 PM)

They force opposing QBs into more bad decisions than any other D and it really isn't even close. I'll take that as a barometer for future success any time.

Kevin (Chicago)

A decision lots of us are weighing: where do you draw the line when deciding whom to cut to get Demaryius Thomas? Drop Jerome Harrison, for instance? THANKS!

KC Joyner
  (4:42 PM)

Harrison is almost in Mangini's doghouse and he's injured. I'd definitely drop him for Thomas.

leif (bottom of my league)

wow! i just saw your comment about demaryuis thomas....start him over hines ward this week?

KC Joyner
  (4:43 PM)

Yep. Ward has a third string QB, is on the road and playing against a good CB.

KC Joyner
  (4:44 PM)

Can't believe some of the team names that are being sent in. Can't use most of them, either, as this is a PG rated chat.

KC Joyner
  (4:44 PM)

They are very funny, though!

Todd (LV)

Team name last year: Turner and Hoosh

KC Joyner
  (4:44 PM)

That's one I can post!

Ray (TN)

Trade A. Foster for B. Marshall?

KC Joyner
  (4:45 PM)

No way. Marshall is very good but Foster has a chance at being the top fantasy football RB this year.

rob (fl )

kc my man i have written fifty questions and not one answer can you please tell me wether or not to start maroney, crabtree, bowe in the flex 2?

KC Joyner
  (4:46 PM)

Rob, I get a ton of questions and, as you can see, I try to answer as many of them as possible. If Maroney is healthy (i.e. if he fully practiced today), go with him. Otherwise, go Bowe.

Dan (Harrisburg)

Favre Dollar Footlongs

KC Joyner
  (4:46 PM)

A Subway reference, very good plug for them!

Louia CK (New York)

Yeah, but you aren't convinced the packers have the best defense, and you aren't convinced that they have one of the best defenses. You're convinced they may have the best defense. I'm convinced the Cardinals may have the best defense and I'm convinced the Browns may have the best defense.

KC Joyner
  (4:47 PM)

You want I should be more specific - outside of Pittsburgh, they are hands down the best D in the league. Just not sure if I would take them over the Black and Gold but beyond that, there is no hesitance.

Ken (Corpus Christi)

Live and Let Addai

KC Joyner
  (4:48 PM)

James Bond reference rules!

steve d (naples)

Trade Bradshaw for B, Marshall?

KC Joyner
  (4:49 PM)

That's a trade I'd make. I like Bradshaw but Marshall is an elite WR.

Megan (MN)

Do Us All A Favre And And Retire

KC Joyner
  (4:49 PM)

That could be the winner in my estimation.

Louia CK (New York)

I was just being a grammar nerd as your wording was weak. Pauly Shore may be the best actor ever.

KC Joyner
  (4:50 PM)

Got it! And, hey, when you answer questions as fast as I do, those grammar errors can happen!

Zack (RI)

Earnest Graham Goes to Camp

KC Joyner
  (4:51 PM)

Hard to believe the guy who played Ernest is dead.

Megan (MN)

David Buehler's Day Off

KC Joyner
  (4:51 PM)

Two very cool ones from Megan!

Dan (Brooklyn)

Would you take Benson or Ochocinco going forward?

KC Joyner
  (4:52 PM)

Nope. Ochocinco looks like he did a couple of years ago. He's dominant right now and Benson, although good, just isn't at that level.

BSB (Scram, McFly. I'm cuttin' in.)

Lightening Round! P.Hillis or C. Williams?

KC Joyner
  (4:52 PM)

Hillis - don't start anyone against the Steelers.

Marc (Malden, MA)

Wonder if any women named their team "Robin Sparkles"

KC Joyner
  (4:53 PM)

Another How I Met Your Mother reference! Mrs. Scientist and I just bought season five last week.

Brian (Lincoln, Ne)

Cutler or Vick?

KC Joyner
  (4:54 PM)

I'd take Vick this week because I don't like the Cutler vs GB matchup and because the Jags D hasn't shown it can do much this year.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA)

I have two cats one named Robin and one named Sparkles

KC Joyner
  (4:54 PM)

Another HIMYM fan!

ERC2991 (CA)

Do you still go with Larry Fitzgerald as a top 25 reciever?

KC Joyner
  (4:55 PM)

Not this week since he is facing Asomugha.

matt (mississippi)

I see your down on Cutler this week, but there's no way i bench him for Flacco right? Right?

KC Joyner
  (4:56 PM)

Nope. Cutler will throw the ball more than Flacco and will still put up solid fantasy points - he'll just throw his first two picks of the year (if not more).

Marc (Malden, MA)

If you have Demaryius Thomas over Steve Smith (NYG) for the rest of the year...are you saying Smith is junk?

KC Joyner
  (4:56 PM)

I'm saying Smith is more of a short pass receiver. Thomas has short and vertical pass skills and that's why he gets the nod.

Alex (Austin, TX)

Hey KC, in a league where you keep one player, do you think D. Thomas in the last round will trump Donald Brown in the 12th or LeSean McCoy in the 4th? Thanks.

KC Joyner
  (4:57 PM)

I'd probably still take McCoy over Thomas in a keeper because he's a near-elite RB who could develop into an elite. That pretty much trumps anything except another elite RB.

Ed (NY)

BUZZER BEATER: Buckhalter or Beanie Wells on Sunday??

KC Joyner
  (4:58 PM)

I don't trust Beanie's injury and the fact Hightower is dominating right now. Go Buckhalter.

Rich (KC)

Start: S Smith (Car) dinged or Collie or Walter?

KC Joyner
  (4:58 PM)

I'd go Collie against a very banged up Denver D.

Jon (California)

should i deal best and calvin johnson for Gore and Floyd. I am 2-0 and my other backs are AP and Foster. I have bowe, walters and roddy white at wideout already.

KC Joyner
  (4:59 PM)

Got to keep Best - he's the real deal.

Daniel (Lexington)

Favre, Flacco, or Orton?

KC Joyner
  (5:00 PM)

Favre - Detroit secondary is still not good.

Lawrence (of Arabia)

Dustin Keller or Aaron Hernandez at TE?

KC Joyner
  (5:01 PM)

Hernandez. Well, it's been fun but I've got to run - a radio interview in five minutes and an Outback run after that! Just a quick note, you can follow my material on Twitter at kcjoynertfs. Hope to see you all here next week!
