Good afternoon everyone...let's get his partaaayyyy started!
good afternoon mark, here's the deal.I need a top five car or a win just pick one car.one reminder kansas is double points week, also homestead is triple points week.everyother race here on in is regular. just pick one 16,33,31,29,14,00,1,39,11.The 2 car killed me this weekend.also i picked all of these cars once already execpt for the 29,00. Once you pick a car twice you are done for the year. my idea was the 16or the 39, for dover, kansas 11 or 33, keep the 29 for homestead, what would you do?
Mike I think you're on to the right plan. Biffle is a solid play I think for Dover with Newman the fall back plan. 11,33 would be nice at Kansas...29 or 14 at Homestead.
Mark, I'm a bit confused for Dover. Right now my pre-lim is 48-17-9-43, for the B-list with Kenseth/Kahne I also have options with 31(2), 33(4), 29 (4) and 00 (4) with the amount of starts available in parenthesis. What should I do Mark?
I like your original team..00 for 43 might be the only place I'd think about changing at this point. The RCR cars should be good at Dover, but not great. It's not one of their better tracks.
Hey there sir, looking for a dark horse or can't miss top 5 finisher? Who ya got?
How about Matt Kenseth..he won't be much to write home about the rest of the season but he's usually bad to the bone at Dover..I'm also think David Reuttiman and his teammate Martin Truex, Jr. could be tough to deal with Sunday and might be a little off the radar screen.
hey mark, i'm having a tough time trying to narrow down to to guys from four guys. I am looking at Biffle, Kyle Busch, Jimmie and Edwards, and I just need to of them, which two do you suggest I go with?
I'd go with Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch.
hey mark, after the interview moody did on sirius nascar radio yesterdaywith the 00 car,he said, that its either the same car he is bring or close to it,were he finished in the spring. how do you feel about his chances at quli, top ten, five or win?thanks
I think Reutimann could be tough to deal with even though his fifth place finish in May was his first ever top-10 at Dover. I don't think, though, it was a fluke and he's starting to find ways to get a finishing position that matches how well he's racing inside the race.
Wo do you think will win the Dover 200 & the AAA 400 at Dover?
I'm thinking Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson.
Who do you like to win this weekend?
Luke, I like Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch to tangle horns on Sunday...and here's my top-30 pre-race rankings......1.Jimmie Johnson2.Kyle Busch3.Denny Hamlin4.Matt Kenseth5.Carl Edwards6.Greg Biffle 7.Tony Stewart8.Jeff Burton9.Kevin Harvick10.Kurt Busch11.Ryan Newman12.Jeff Gordon13.Clint Bowyer14.David Reutimann15.Martin Truex, Jr.16.Kasey Kahne17.Juan Pablo Montoya18.Jamie McMurray19.Joey Logano20.A.J. Allmendinger21.Mark Martin22.Marcos Ambrose23.Brad Keselowski24.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.25.Paul Menard26.David Ragan27.Sam Hornish, Jr.28.Regan Smith29.Elliott Sadler30.Scott Speed
What do you think of Kurt Busch's chances in the Chase?
I think he could be a dark-horse. He won the first Chase back in 2004 and has been pretty consistent this season. He's capable of stacking up nine good races in succession.
Is this going to be the year when Jimmy Johnson goes down?
It might be..it has to end sometime. He's certainly shown this year he's a mere mortal like the rest of us..As Clint Bowyer said he may still be Superman but his cape is a little shorter..lol.
Will Clint Bowyer's near violation effect him at all this weekend?
They had issues with his Richmond car, but Bowyer's winning NH Chevy is now getting closer scrutiny by NASCAR at their North Carolina R&D center. They have definitely found something they don't like. It could wind up being nothing or it could be big penalty that will likely drop Bowyer way back in the points..It will be decided well before the weekend then we'll see how it affects Bowyer and the 33 team.
What do you think of Jeff Burton's chances at the AAA 400?
I think he's got a shot to run third to tenth. I don't see him winning.
Who do you like as the best non-Chase driver for the rest of the season?
I would have to say Jamie McMurray is certainly a guy that is really getting it done week to week it seems. Ryan Newman is starting to come alive. I also think Kasey Kahne could make some late season noise as could David Reuttiman, Martin Truex, Jr. and Juan Pablo Montoya.
What's your top 20 looking like for this weekend in Dover?
In case you missed it Ken..here's my top-30 pre-race rankings again....1.Jimmie Johnson2.Kyle Busch3.Denny Hamlin4.Matt Kenseth5.Carl Edwards6.Greg Biffle 7.Tony Stewart8.Jeff Burton9.Kevin Harvick10.Kurt Busch11.Ryan Newman12.Jeff Gordon13.Clint Bowyer14.David Reutimann15.Martin Truex, Jr.16.Kasey Kahne17.Juan Pablo Montoya18.Jamie McMurray19.Joey Logano20.A.J. Allmendinger21.Mark Martin22.Marcos Ambrose23.Brad Keselowski24.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.25.Paul Menard26.David Ragan27.Sam Hornish, Jr.28.Regan Smith29.Elliott Sadler30.Scott Speed
Thoughts on the 31, 56, 00 and 29? How would you rank them? Should I switch any of them out?
They are all potential top-10 cars with one or two possibly sneaking a top-5. I'm ranking them 31,29,00, and 56.
Sleeper picks for this weekend to do well? Thoughts on Menard, Speed, and Hornish? Who should get the best finish out of the three?
For some reason high banks and concrete surfaces seem to be a strong suit of Scott Speed's. He won a truck race at Dover and has done well at Bristol. Still, in that group I think Menard is the safest pick. Hornish has a hard time keeping himself out of trouble on tracks like these.
Top driver to do well this weekend? Thoughts on starting the 18 and 99? Should I switch the 99 for a dominent driver like the 48 or 24 or 11?
You saw my rankings Dan. I like the 48 and 18 to battle for the win. I've got Edwards as almost a lock top-10 and possible top-5. 24 and 11 have big questions going in. Hamlin will flat tell you Dover is not one of his better tracks.
QUESTION TO MARK GURU AT 3.25 PM WEDNESDAY GREEETINGS GURU WHO DOES THE DELAWARE GURU HAVE FOR SUNDAY
Ray Gordon you move around man quite a bit...what are you a truck driver? :)....I'm thinking just as he has many, many times Jimmie Johnson bounces right back into victory lane after dealing with adversity the week before.
Guru, if you had to pick 5 drivers today for the remaining races and had to live with them, who ya got?
Wow...a toughie...first blush..Johnson, Hamlin,Edwards,Harvick, Kyle Busch...there is some risk in those top-5..but you know what I like to always say "dare to be great"!
Good day Mark, Does the 16 have a chance this week since he won this race in 08 during the chase?
He's got an outside shot Mark, which is better than no shot. I can see him running top-10 easy..possibly top-5, but do I see him beating Johnson or Busch? Not right now I don't. He should have a strong afternoon though.
OK, now, Mark - please try not to laugh too hard at this question - there IS a reason behind it - Anyway, I understand Dave Blaney will split time between the 36 and 38 car - do you think he can get better finishes in one than the other? (If I explained my league rules and lowest-tier choices, You'd know why I ask - LOL - I need Dave to get two top 30 finishes for me somewhere.)
I think your best chance to get that done with Blaney, and no I'm not laughing, is when he's driving the 38 for Front Row Motorsports. Gilliland has driven that car to a top-25 every now and then this year..
Guru, The three RFR in the top six pre-race, 4,5 and 6, does that mean that they are pretty much a toss-up in your opinion or is there a noticeable gap between them? Thanks as always.
There's no big gap because all three have some nice numbers at Dover. I think Kenseth has been a little stronger race in, race out on the Monster Mile. Biffle hasn't quite been as consistent lately as Edwards but beat him by two spots in May. At this point in the season, I think Edwards is now a spot or two better than Biffle.
Guru, With Smoke seeming to hit his Chase stride and his past three Dover races top tens(with a 2nd) do you see him having a shot to better your 7th ranking this weekend?
He's got a shot but I want to see how this team reacts to what happened last week when they go through practice and qualifying this weekend. They'll very likely climb right back up on the horse so yes he could finish higher than seventh.
All Knowing All Seeing-Monster Mile Soothsayer, please rank these 98, 78, 77, 82, 83. Thanks.
98,82,83,78, and 77...and I like the nickname!
Mark, who do you see qualifying well this weekend?
That's hard to say Brett...qualifying draw is an unknown...but I think Kyle Busch will be plenty fast..Johnson also comes to mind as does Newman..Truex was the pole sitter in May.
Mark I've used up 43 car. Who ya like between these C drivers? 98,77, 82 or 83 or 7?
I think BMac going with the 98 give you a chance to run top-20...what about Keselowski? Is he in that group? I might take him over Menard...just hearing by the way..Clint Bowyer's crew chief is going to be suspended for six races...$100,000 fine and loss of 150 points for car failing inspection after New Hampshire...If that turns out to be true WOW!
Times up for today folks..so glad you joined the chat. Hope you have a great week. Sorry to say but "The Guru has left the building"!...so long everyone.
