Chat with Bryan Broaddus

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:32 AM)

From the Media workroom at Valley Ranch...its time to talk a little Cowboys...will be with you for the next hour until locker room duty so lets get started...

Carl (Miami)

Was Roy Williams burst 2 weeks ago just due to fact they were playing Texans D, or is Dez getting better allowing for more opening for Roy as D now has to deal with Austin and Dez?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:34 AM)

The Texans secondary is young and not good now...Roy has gotten better and the trend will continue up..Dez needs to get his nose in his book and get totally on the same page with the offense...once that happens...this offense has a real chance to make plays down the field.

Teak (Jacksonville)

so with gurode and Davis not moving their feet...are they just way past their prime or can they improve this year

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:35 AM)

Good question...watch this Tennessee front, very active, like to twist and stunt. Its an undersized group that tends to give Gurode and Davis trouble.

Rhino Sledge (New Jersey)

Bryan - in order to preserve James and Brookings over the entire 16 games, shouldn't Lee and Williams be used more, even if they are ineffective early? Sooner or later you have to trust your picks to perform. If James and Brookings are beat up by the playoffs, it won't really matter. Thoughts?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:37 AM)

I see them using Lee more if he can stay on the field. I really don't like Williams and Wade even told us yesterday that Williams is not ready to play in that role and Lee is...to be honest...they are in a jam at inside linebacker.

Bryan M (Frisco)

How do you think the corners have done this season? Who do you think is better Newman or Jenkins?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:39 AM)

I think Newman has had a solid year so far. There were a couple of moments tackling that made me close my eyes but overall, his coverage has been very good, even when the ball hasn't gone his way.

Jack (Tennessee)

Will the Cowboys be able to stop Chris Johnson like the Broncos did last week? What should the right game plan be here vs. Titans running game?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:42 AM)

As you know living in the great state of Tennessee, the Titans are 42-13 when Johnson gets 30+ carries...If the Cowboys do not tackle well and do not rally to the football they will struggle in this running game. This Titans line is good but the weakness in my eyes will be inside with Amano against Ratliff...watch that one.

Senior Chang (Big D)

With a healthy O-Line, should we see a more balanced attack?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:45 AM)

The Titans completely shut down the Broncos last week in the running game. The Titans like to get up the field and rush the passer but they like to move their line as well...where the Cowboys might be able to hurt them is with misdirection runs...watch and see if the Cowboys have success running the counter this week.

Brian (Carrollton, TX)

How can the 'boys make sure to keep Young as uncomfortable as possible? I hope he shares the wealth again.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:46 AM)

Attack the middle of the pocketon Young. He seems to handle the rush from the outside with his mobility. Quick pressure in his face will be the trick.

Dezstroyer88 (Az)

What kind of role would you expect Felix to have this week? I feel as though Jerry may want to show him off a bit seeing as he grabbed him ahead of CJ in the same draft

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:48 AM)

I am always waiting for Jones to be used more and in different roles. Not from me but scout friends around the league, say that Jones doesn't look the same right now...need to really study this closely..

Chris (Lubbock)

Can we expect any kind of trade with the RB position to give the offensive line depth?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:49 AM)

I don't think that you will see any deals for offensive line depth...where the Cowboys will address this is in the draft next year.

Tony (Lancaster)

Hi, Brian. I always appreciate your insightful analysis. It makes sense that the Cowboys will put 8 or 9 in the box to contain CJ and force Vince Young to throw. However, if the Titans adjust with short drops and quick throws--just like the Bears did--how will/should the Cowboys counteract this? Thanks for your thoughts.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:52 AM)

When you play the Titans and Vince Young, need to get your hands up...he has a 3/4 throwing motion...his ball comes out low...this line does a nice job in protection so if you don't get there...need to block those throwing lanes... I was impressed with Young's ability to throw the slant in the games I studied.

Bocephus (Everywhere)

In your opinion, who has been the best player on the offensive line so far this season?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:54 AM)

Doug Free hands down has been the best and most consistent offensive linemen the Cowboys have right now...if you ask me who has struggled the most other than Alex Barron...Leonard Davis.

Jeff Gallo (Erie, Colorado)

The Cowboys viewed Doug Free as a future starter for a number of years. Do they feel that way about Costa, Brewster, Young, etc?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:55 AM)

The front office loves Costa and Young. They view both as future starters...the jury is still out on Brewster at this point.

Adam (Charlotte, NC)

Bryan with your excellent eye for scouting I'd love to see you do a Mock Draft for us this coming April and maybe do a couple scouting reports on some of the Cowboy's possible draft prospects. I bet you'd give Mel and Todd a run for their money.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:57 AM)

Thanks for your kind words but without watching tape on those college players...I have no chance in a Mock Draft...thats a five month job...

Adrian McKenzie (Palm Bay, Florida)

do you think we will see a lot more of the draw rushing attack from the cowboys this week?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:59 AM)

Has been a big part of the running game. I think they might try and run some misdirection stuff to take advantage of the Titans aggressive front seven.

Blake (Abilene, TX)

Bryan, If you could Put Nelli Cruz or Josh Hamilton on the Cowboys, what position would the play?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:01 PM)

I could see both of them playing as linebackers...Cruz on the inside and Josh on the outside using his speed much like DeMarcus Ware

CARLOS (LAREDO)

WHO DO YOU THINK HAS A BETTER UPSIDE MILES OR DEZ?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:04 PM)

Interesting question...I am a huge fan of Miles but Bryant has some rare skills...if you can watch him everyday catch balls like I do live...you would be impressed...he really just has to learn what he needs to do each week and you will have a player that can be a force each week.

wayne (missouri)

in my opinion the cowboys interior lineman have been a problem for us in protection do you think this can be fixed or does jerry need to start evaluating some of the best interior lineman in college right now

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:05 PM)

Start looking for that inside line help now...this will only get fixed if you bring the players in to fix it...they want to draft players to do this...not play high dollar free agents.

Esan (Aggieland, TX)

Hey Bryan,Which Titan WR do you see as the most dangerous matchup? Britt/Washington who streches the field?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:06 PM)

A question I was going to ask in the locker room today...in studying...Washington looks to be the most consistent...

Stetson (Oklahoma)

Do you see them using one of the back-up safety's more as a nickel linebacker in obvious passing downs?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:08 PM)

In the pre season the Cowboys used McCray as the dime linebacker...have not seen that scheme since the Texans game like I said, in the pre season...

Felix Jones (Dallas)

Hey Bryan, will I get more than 15 carries this week? C'mon I average over 6 ypc and still get no love, will this finally be my breakout week?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:10 PM)

I would like to see you get more carries Felix and this game might be a good opportunity to do that but I still feel like the running back rotation will remain the same.

Chris (Lubbock)

How will the cowboys use sean lee this year?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:12 PM)

My hopes for Sean Lee were way too high, I guess? If he can't stay on the field, he is always going to have problems. I thought he was going to be this great nickel player but thats yet to be seen. If he can come in and now give Brooking and James a blow without problems, that would now be a good thing.

Let'sGO (Canada)

is the offense out of it's funk and now ready to make noise??

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:15 PM)

This Titans defense will present some challenges...the pass rush is good and the linebackers are solid. They have the players to make you look bad in the secondary. This by no means will be a push over game. The Cowboys are going to have to be sound in all areas.

Esan (College Station, TX)

Hey Bryan,What weakness do you see in the Titans? Are you doing the analysis on teams and games anymore for the blog, cause I always look forward to them

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:18 PM)

Still doing my weekly break downs...every Tuesday and Friday on ESPN Dallas.com. If the Titans have a weakness...it is at center and on the outside at wide receiver. On defense, they are undersized along the front.

Josh (Dallas)

If Roy Williams and Marion Barbar continues to play the way they are this year will the Cowboys try to trade them in the offseason or just cut them due to the amount they make and the exrta talent at there positions?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:21 PM)

Trades are always tough when money is on the line. I have worked with Jerry before, he will study all his options at the end of the season and if it makes sense for him player wise, he will try and make a move. The thing you have to remember is that it takes two parties to want to trade.

Mason (Louisville)

B. B., love your rare skill set and knowledge you bring to the conversation...Looking ahead to next week, do you see Randy Moss being a big factor next week? Do you see him being a "Cowboy Killer" as he has consistently been during his career?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:23 PM)

Thanks again for the kind words...I am looking forward to studying the Vikings games next week and seeing how Randy plays. I really do think the bigger concern for the Cowboys is how they prepare to once again make that trip to the Metrodome...they didn't handle it well in the playoffs.

Alex M (MD)

Bryan, thanks for the great work you do in this blog.My question is regarding the Cowboys defense. Out of the starters, who do you think is the weak link? I feel like Alan Ball hasn't lived up to the hype that he can actually make plays. I haven't seen anything that stands out about his game, in fact, he has looked a little lost at times and isn't great at tackling. What's your professional opinion?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:27 PM)

I agree with you about Alan Ball, I was even asked that question by some Cowboys scouts and that was the answer that I gave them...

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:29 PM)

Well guys...thats all the time I have...thanks for all the questions...hope to see you again next week...for the best Cowboys coverage make sure you are following ESPN Dallas.com...
