What's up chatters? Who's your picks for the Hall today?
Sounds like Boyer is going around with t chip on his shoulder. Does he blame his crew chief, car chief, the whole team or NASCAR for what they did?
Definitely NASCAR. Bowyer believes the punishment did not fit the crime.
Hey Terry, since apparently track owners, promoters, car owners and crew chiefs are eligible for induction into the HOF how about NASCAR writers too?
Writers and broadcasters also are eligible.
Does nobody else in NASCAR want to be Juniors crew chief? Is that the real reason Mr. H won't make any changes with the 88 team? McGrew is doing a worse job than Eury Jr if you look at the stats.
Plenty of guys would jump at the chance to be a CC for Jr., but Rick still believes it's better to leave things as hey are for now. I'm not so sure.
I'm becoming a huge fan of the shorter races. Interesting idea - why don't we race twice a week - Once at a large venue currently on the schedule on a weekend (300-400 Miles/Laps), and once at a smaller, more local venue on a weeknight (250 Miles/Laps)? The big tracks keep their dates, the fans get to see more diverse tracks and racing, and the teams get more track time in competition since there's a testing ban. What do you think?
Interesting idea, but there already are too many races on the sked. What they needs is fewers races (32 would work for starters) and shorter distances. But racing on weeknights has been discussed.
Since Mr. Hendrick won't make any changes to the 88 team, and he can't fire the driver, is it going to be 2 more seasons of top 25s or will Mr. H try something else before Juniors contract is up?
He won't let it go two more seasons like this if things don't improve.
QUESTION TO TERRY BLOUNT AT 2.25 PM HI TERRY WHO DOES MR BLOUNT HAVE FORCHARLOTTE SATURDAYNIGHT
You have a lot of addresses RGR. I'll go with Jj. Boring, I know, but the man is good there. My surprise pick would be Kurt Busch, although that's not much of a surprise.
So do you think Kahne coming to HMS will be good or bad? It hasn't worked out for Dale Junior at all, everyone thought it was a lock when he signed with them.
I don't think you should compare Kasey with Jr. Two totally different guys and diferent situations. I think Kasey will be a real contender at Hendrick. But to be honest, I thought Jr. would also.
The California race was so much more exciting with 100 miles being taken off of it...do you think NASCAR will think seriously about shortening some of its races? I could think of at least 12 races that could benefit from 100 less miles.
I agree Chris, but I don't see many tracks shortening their races. The longer people are there the more money tracks make off concessions.
Terry - I believe that NASCAR HOF has one of two options to break the log jam they have created with the five max per year. Either create a veterans committee like MLB with anyone who has retired prior to 1975 being eligible, or expand the inductees for a five year period. At this rate we will be looking at Gordon and Johnson getting into the HOF around 2050.
Gordon and JJ don't have to worry, but some of the old-timers do. Let's see what happens today. If Ray Parks gets in, maybe they don't need a vet committee. If no old guys get in, maybe they do.
Terry, while I understand your take on the cup guys running in the NW,if I am a NW driver I want to test myself against the best. The Justin Allgaier's of the NW are better drivers due to having to compete against the likes of Carl and Kyle.
I'm not against Cup guys running a few NW events and having three or four in each race. But I'm completely against Cup guys running the entire NW season and racing for the championship.
If David Pearson is not unanimous an investigation is needed. Beyone that you are forced to go back in time. Lee Petty, Inman, Raymond Parks and since this is not just the Sprint hall of fame Richie Evans
All good picks, and I'd be surprised if the Silver Fox isn't unanimous.
Jimmie has had success at charlotte, but has only won once since the track was repaved. He spun out in the 600 because of the spoiler. Does he have the feel for the car now with the spoiler or do you think he's still getting a hang of it?
The man has won plenty of races with the spoiler. he'll be fine. But the new surface added grip and JJ is better when a track is slick.
Terry, please settle a debate for me and my friend. Do you think NASCAR uses caution flags for debris to make races more interesting? I can never understand why so many of these caustions fail to turn up any visual evidence of debris with cameras all over the place.
The truth is you could call a debris caution on almost every lap because there's always something on the track. Just like you could call holding on every NFL snap. The key is when does it become dangerous for the drivers.
Hi Terry, do you think part of the reason for the empty seats and ratings decline is that NASCAR might be over saturated with too many races and just too much NASCAR exposure?
Yes I do. It's a simple issue of supply and demand.
Do you think if JJ was not in contention for this years championship that Mr. H would have already moved Ron Malec over to CC the 88? It just doesnt seem like Lance Mcgrew is the right person for that job to me.
That's a good point, but I don't think so. I think Rick still belileves it can work with Lance and Jr.
Hey, Terry. Do you think Mark Martin's good run at Fontana is a sign of things to come for the #5 team? I'm still holding onto the slim hope that Mark will get another run at the championship in 2011.
They'll be better next year, but I think the championship ship has sailed for Mark.
What did you think of McGrew's call for no tires? It was obvious Jr didn't like the call.
It took a chance and it didn't work out, but they are in a situation where they can gamble on things.
What are the chances that Smoke will win the 2011 Daytona 500??? I say his chances are pretty good.
His chances probably are as good as anyone's.
If (or maybe when) Jimmie wins that 5th championship, do you think its going to drive NASCAR to make some more dramatic changes for 2011 or 2012?
I wrote today that an elimination system is likely if JJ easily wins the title again. If someone else wins, of JJ has to battle down the the last lap at Homestead, NASCAR probably will leave it the way it is.
How disappointed is Ryan Newman for not making this year's chase? He'd be in contention after yet another top 10 at Fontana.
He's disappointed, obviously, especially with how both SHR cars are running now. But he can win the crown for the top non-Chaser in the standings.
Joey has proven he can win in NASCAR but it doesn't seem like Zippy communicates very well. Do you think JGR might move Jason Ratcliff to be Joeys cup crew chief?
I think it's the other way around. Joey hasn't learned how to tell Zippy what's wrong or how to make it better. Zippy had no problem winning two titles with Stewart.
Do you think we will possible have a NW champion in 2011 that is not a cup series regular?
So far, Edwards is the only Cup guy who says he's running the full NW sked in 2011. Even so, I'd still pick him to win it unless the rules are changed.
Yea, but with Rowdy out of the chase cause of a blown engine, who's left to fight Jimmie?
Hamlin, Harvick and maybe Gordon.
So when it comes to #88 and #24 the crew chiefs get blamed but for #20 it is the drivers fault?
Zippy is a proven champion. The 88 and 24 dont't have CCs that are proven champions.
If Zippy leaves JGR, then do you think Zippy working for SHR would be a good idea. I don't mean that Zippy should be CC for Smoke. I meant that he could be working somewhere important for SHR.
I think he would be welcome with open arms.
Terry, of today's drivers, which 5 are future HOF locks, and which 5 are not quite locks, but will get in once more years progress in their careers?
Very good question. Locks: Gordon, JJ, Stewart, Bill Elliott and Martin. Not quite locks: B. Labonte. Possible Hof guys in the future: Kyle, Denny and Kenseth.
That's fair about Zippy being a champion cc, so by that logic since Dale jr isn't a sprint cup champ he doesn't deserve a sprint cup winning cc?
That makes no sense whatsoever. A driver deserves the best CC he can get, and vice versa.
Terry, do you think the enlightened minds at NASCAR are considering dumping the "lucky dog" rule? I always thought it was a cheap way to get a lap back.
I don't think that's been discussed. The Lucky Dog is staying.
If Zippy goes to SHR to crew chief for Stewart, then Darian Grubb can go back to HMS to crew chief for Junior. Yes?
No. Not happening.
Terry, NASCAR'S HOF is a huge dissapointment so far, they should have put in 25 people last year. They seem to want to overexpose everything, people get tired of that and just stop paying attention to it. Every driver in the non-modern era that belongs there should be there now. They should not be wasting time weather a guy that should be in already gets there this year.
I disagree. If you put everybody in at once it waters things down and you don't honor them properly.
Shouldn't all Sprint Cup champs get automatic entry into the HOF sort of like they get the past champions provisional and automatic entry into races?
In my opinion no. It should be based on someone's entire career accomplishments.
Well when do you think there will be enought people in to go visit it?
It's an amazing place to visit now. Some real start-of-the-art stuff with interactive designs, tons to historic cars and more things to see than you can imagine.
Not a jr. fan but I must ask the question. Since Francis is going with Kane to Red Bull in 2011 I assume he goes to Hendrick in 2012. This leaves Gustafson the odd CC out. Does he go to the 88, the 24 or does he take on some other role at HMS?
Way too far down the road to predict that now. Anythign could happen.
I, for one, am a huge Junior hater. Sorry, but it's the truth. Anyway, do you think it unfair that Junior (and Danica) gets all the media attention for being an also ran, but drivers like Harvick, Rowdy, and JB run consistently up front, and get crap.
Junior and DP are extremely popular with many fans. That's why they get attention people care. And the other guys get written about often also. I couldn't count the number of stories I've written this year about Kyle, and I probably quote Burton more than any other driver.
Have you been to the HOF building? How would you describe it?
Yes I have. I guess I would describe it as futuristic is it's design, but going back in time with it's incredible historic displays.
I give Danica a lot of credit last race, she ran a good smart race and should have finished top 15, she gets to run the remainder and I think she will get a good finish.
She ran well Saturday and showed improvement. It helped her that she was racing at Cali for the second time, something she won't get to do the rest of the season.
Also think Eury Jr is a good crew cheif for her.
I agree. Tony Jr. has the right temperment to help her gradually improve.
This weekend a must win for Jeff Gordon?
It's a must for any of the contenders to beat JJ.
Terry, how many wins with a championship should a driver have to qualify for the HoF? How many without a championship? I myself believe 40 with a championship and 50 without. Therefore, Mark Martin, while a good driver would not qualify for the HoF IMO.
I don't think you can place exact numbers on it. Getting into the Hall is more than just raw stats.
IF JJ WINS 5 IN A ROW, DO YOU SEE MR. H MOVING KNAUS OVER TO THE 88?
No no, triple no.
Why do people bash Rowdy for running as many Nationwide and truck races as possible but then turn around and say Dale jr would be better if he did like Rowdy?
I agree. You can't have it both ways. Place me on the side of Kyle playing bully in the NW series.
I saw where there was something in the jayski podcast about sadler. Can you elaborate on here as I cannot listen to that while at work? Sadler to run Nationwide for Harvick maybe?
Eliott may run full time for Kevin next year in NW or Trucks. And I feel sorry for you if you're my twin.
Has NASCAR given any thought to a HOF voting system similar to baseball where anyone that gets a certain percentage of the votes gets in (Maybe cap it at a max per year, say 10) but wouldn't that help get some older guys in and speed up this process a bit?
Ten is too many. No Hall puts in 10 people a year.
I saw that Childress and Hendrick were finalists for the HOF this year. How come Jack Roush is not a finalist as well? The man has won titles in all three series, won hundreds of races in NASCAR, and is a great hands-on owner.
Do HOF voters look at total career NASCAR wins and titles, or do they look strictly at Cup stats?
They look at everything. And don't fret about Jack Roush. He'll be in the Hall eventually.
Do you think that Davey Allison or Alan Kulwicki will ever be eligible for the HOF?
I don't see Davey making it, which is sad because he was incredibly talented. Alan might make it on down the road.
How come only 50 NASCAR hand picked people get to select for the HOF? How come the fans don't get to vote in most popular Dale jr?
The fans do have a vote. A total fan vote represents one vote.
It seems like Jimmie is using a lot more 4 letter words in interviews, growing his hair long and the beard. Is that all image stuff to make him seem less vanilla?
He isn't doing it for that, but JJ isn't as vanilaa as people think, at least not in his private life.
DO YOU THING THAT LIKE A JACK ROUSH RICHARD CHILREDESS WILL BE IN THE HALL OF FAME IF AND WHEN EVER DECIDES NOT TO DO IT ANYMORE.
Childress is a lock and Jack also has an excellent chance of getting in on down the road.
Gotta run folks. Just one more hour until we learn the five new entries. It should be fun. Have a great week. Peace.
