Welcome to the Wednesday chat! This is NOT "The Event" but it is sixty minutes of fantasy questions. We'll get to as many as we can... Second cup of coffee in hand... Let's kick it off.
all aboard the Torain Train?
Started him last week in many leagues, but that was more of a matchup decision. Not liking the Skins vs the Bears, and Torain looks to me to be more of a RB2/flex than a RB1.
Master AJ - In your great wisdom is Mike Wallace for Miles Austin a good deal?
No. Although Austin is a top-5 guy most weeks, until the Cowboys can balance out the offense, he's not as effective and is going to have those 2-20 weeks. With Big Ben back, I like the Wallace upside far more.
I am not one to support vetoing trades but if a 1-5 team is trading Turner for Steve Smith (NYG) to a team in 3rd, isn't that suspicious? Turner is the best player on the 1-5 team.
Why is that suspicious? It may not be the best deal, but its fine by me to allow. What if it was last week and he traded DeSean Jackson for Marhsawn Lynch because he needed RBs? At the time - VETO! Now, what a well-timed lucky move.
Go with PHI defense or pickup KC?
I'd ride the Eagles.
Did you really just say you'd trade Miles Austin for Mike Wallace? Man I wish I were in your league cause I'd make that deal in a heartbeat!
No, what I said was I wouldn't trade Wallace for Austin. I wouldn't swing the deal either way. I only answered from the perspective of a Wallace owner.
Is it safe to drop Steve Smith (CAR)?
I don't think you can wait for him to get back to full speed AND for Moore/Clausen to figure out how to throw the ball to him once he is.
Favorite STL WR PPR: Alexander or Amendola
Still going to go with Amendola over time. Danario had a great single game... but nobody was paying him any mind. If defenses start to cover both, Amendola will catch more balls.
But what you are saying is if you owned Wallace you wouldn't trade him for Austin (Rather have Wallace). But now you are saying if you owned Austin, you wouldn't trade him for Wallace? What gives?
I'm saying that if I owned Wallace, I expect him to get better with Big Ben at QB, and value will rise. At the same time, I think Austin will have 20 point games, and 2 point games. From either side, although I think Austin may get more fantasy points overall, from week to week, I'd stick with the one I have.
I have an owner in my league that is starting Woodhead as a WR because he is listed as an RB, WR. How would you deal with that?
If he is listed a both, why wouldn't he be allowed to start him as both? No controversy as far as I can see.
What's your perspective on the RB situation in New England? Who's the best player to own on that team? THanks
Best to avoid the whole shebang, quite frankly. I think Fred Taylor gets the most carries once healthy, with Woodhead becoming "Faulk" and BJGE getting three-four series a game.
If Gates is a Game Time Decision, as a late game scratch, who do you pickup - John Carlson or Kevin Boss (pickings are slim)?
Boss is a non-factor in New York this year. I'd go Carlson and hope Hasselbeck stops his tunnel vision of Mike Williams West.
Is Felix becoming a solid #2 Rb
Not so fast, my friend. Reports say he was unable to handle the increased workload and that Choice may see a few extra carries. I'm not sure that isn't just "reporters reading too much into things" but it does raise a red flag.
whos the right qb this week kolb or flacco
Flacco. Buffalo won't be able to stop Baltimore's offense.
Replacement QB for the week? Cassell or Freeman?
Cassel. I'd start him over several "name QBs" this week against a sad Jacksonville defense.
What are you thoughts on Marshawn Lynch?
Still needs to do a bit more with his touches, but at worst, he keeps Forsett fresher during games so that he can get just as many yards on far fewer hits. Fantasy-wise, I don't like him.
Thoughts on Patrick Crayton?
Assuming the worst and that Floyd is out and Gates can't play the whole game, Crayton and Davis get the start. I think Davis ends up with the better stats, but Crayton should be flexworthy.
I have changed my kicker almost every week now looking at the weekly espn rankings and keep getting hosed. should i keep trying this or just stick with one guy
Kickers are dart throws. Best to stick with one guy until his bye, then pick up someone else and roll with him the rest of the way.
Any word on Cooley yet if he plays or not?
Pulled himself from last week's game which isn't a good sign. It does make it a game-time call in all likelihood.
Rice in for a big second half? Willis isn't getting any touches anymore!
Not so sure he was ever getting that many touches... I do think Rice has a big second half.
Better chance to be a stud the rest of the way...Mathews, Torain, or Felix?
Mathews, hands down.
Bradford or Stafford the rest of the way?
Stafford. He's got better overall weapons.
TE questions due to Finley being on IR. Roll with Heath Miller or Fred Davis (if Cooley is out) and trade Gaffney/WR5 for Owen Daniels?
I like Heath Miller. I'd hold on to Gaffney. Don't think Daniels is getting back to where he used to be this season.
Mike Williams (SEA) worth picking up? My receivers are WEAK (SSmith (CAR), Crabtree, Britt, MSW)
Britt and Crabtree weak? You're not paying attention. Williams is worth picking up over Smith for this season, though.
With some of the dual role players such as Harvin, Woodhead, and others play, will we ever see position eligibility rules in Fantasy Football?
We do have those rules. You can't start a QB as a WR, for example. But if you think it makes sense to not allow QB's to get receiving yards, or RB to get passing yards, or things like that? Too much of a headache. Stats will be and should be stats.
Trade ethics question from a league commissioner: another owner and I are toying with the idea of trading future draft picks (randomly ordered re-draft league). Our rules are silent, but for the fact that we do trade draft picks before the draft. I'm giddy with the idea of future pick trading, but is it fair or foul?
As long as it is a keeper league... I have no issue.
Is it ever ok to not start a TE if two are on a bye?
OK is such a "loaded" term. You can always do anything your league rules allow. I would not play in a league where the rules do allow that, however. You have a bench for a reason, and part of that is to plan for bye weeks accordingly. If not, you should get penalized, above and beyond the zero. You may not agree, but that is my opinion.
Please answer this question! I know Beanie Wells had a bad game against the Saints, but are 20 carries a sign that he has taken over as the no. 1 back in Arizona?
No question he is the No. 1 back. I don't think that was ever an issue once he got healthy again.
Could you explain how to use a handcuff? Do you start Ward with Foster or keep Ward incase Foster gets hurt? Thanks
The "definition" of a handcuff is when you use a roster spot on a guy who will not ever start for you, save for an injury to the No. 1 guy. It's holding on to Gerhart just in case AP goes down. Think of it as an insurance policy.
Trying to get a gauge on how you value Arian Foster. Your top 5 RBs for the rest of the season are...
Not trying to dodge the question, Marc, but I focus far more on who I want for this week than this point forward... over the course of the season, I think the pre-season assessments generally stay true.
Is Michael Turner going to be a top 10 RB by the end of the season?
Yardage-wise, no question. But not with the TDs added in.
Thoughts on Maclin? Was last week's performance the result of an injury, or was it his coming-out party and a sign of things to come?
Maclin will not get those numbers with DeSean Jackson around. However, it does show that he is more than capable of doing it while he's out. The concern I have, though, is if he can do it with Vick under center...
What are your opinions on handcuffs? I think they're kind of worthless because you know guys like Gerhart and Ringer won't have the same value of AP for CJ2K, so if your studs get hurt, you're screwed anyways, so why waste the roster spot?
No they won't have the same value, but in deeper leagues, where the waiver wire is thin, you need to have "someone" to step in who will get 20 carries a game if you lose your stud.
What "name" qb's would you start Cassel over?
This week I start him over Rodgers, Big Ben and Cutler. Not over Brees, Rivers or Brady.
AJ, what are your thoughts on using the waiver pool as an 'extended bench'. There is someone in my league who will add/drop a new defense/kicker every week based on matchups. As this is within the rules, is it good management or somewhat unethical?
It's not only ethical, it's smart. I don't believe in wasting a roster spot on a second D, TE, or K except in deep keeper leagues.
Cassel over Schaub then?
This week? I think that's a lock.
How do you go about making a constitution for a league? It takes years of many situations to get it down to a "T". Is there any info on what things should be included before you make yours?
Check out the Draft Kit. There are several articles in there to help you out...
J. Charles or D.Williams the rest of the year?
Charles is the guy I'd want to roll with.
Picked up Golden Date when Branch left. Should I drop him for Mike Williams? Also, Jerome Harrison, will he be a change of pace guy or purely a backup?
Golden Date? Now that's a funny typo. Williams is going to get 10 targets a game, so I'd rather have him this season. Harrison is only a backup. 6 carries a game tops unless Shady goes down.
Did I really just say start Cassel over Rodgers? Maybe its time for a vacay! Or could I elaborate why to those in the audience surprised....
Jags are ranked 31st against the pass Minnesota will provide a far stiffer challenge to Rodgers and I don't think B-Jax provides any ground game relief. Is Rodgers a better QB? Absolutely. This week, I start Cassel.
If the regular season expands to 18 games, do you think that will further diminish the #1 RB? Almost certainly teams will have to employ a 2 or 3 RB system to keep everyone fresh for the long haul. What do you think?
Quite the opposite. It will make the AP's and CJ2K's all the more valuable as they will be even more head and shoulders above the 50-50 split types.
GB will exploit the depleted secondary in MN. A.Rodgers will be a Top 4 QB this week!
And that's why we play fantasy football.
Torain or Benson this week?
I like Ryan better than Cedric. I'm not even sure Cincy scores a TD this week.
I hurried out there and picked up Brandon Tate before the Deion Branch trade...was this a tremendous mistake? Can I drop B.Tate for the Seattle Williams...or Dwayne Bowe or Patrick Crayton/Buster Davis? Thanks AJ
Clearly. Tate has almost no value. Drop away, in the order you list.
Is Hillis a must start this week against NO?
In a 12-team league, I would.
Better from here on out.. Meacham or Garcon? Thanks
Garcon. Not that Meachem won't have his weeks, but Brees throws to 10 guys whereas Peyton keeps it to around 5.
AJ - PLEASE HELP!! Rivers or Flacco this week?
As long as Antonio is in there, I go with Rivers.
I've been reading all your chats, but after today I'm gonna have to stop. Wallace better than Austin??? No fantasy value for Lynch??? I'm a Redskins fan and I still like Austin 10 times better than home-run-or-bust Wallace!
"Still, a man, he hears what he wants to hear, and disregards the rest." S&G, The Boxer
PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Beanie or M. Bush? PPR
Don't like either this week, but lean to Beanie.
Who is the better Mike Williams to own?
For now it's West over South.
I NEED A ANSWER!!! D. Willams or F. Jones
Pick two for flex plays this week: S. Smith (NYG), T. Jones, and D. Woodhead????
I'd sit Woodhead.
I have Kolb, Vick and Roethlisberger but can only keep two...who do I drop?
Carlson, Daniels or Gresham?
Carlson is the only one I'd feel good about this week.
People in these chats make me laugh. This is your opinion and should be regarded as another opinion besides their own. Last week if I had come on to this chat and said sit Rivers and play Coly McCoy I would have been called crazy, but Colt scored more points. FF is a crazy game ever changing game that anything could happen any week.
I have no issue with people not agreeing with me, but yes, Chad, there's always a "scrub" who shines and if you want to simply have me say "Peyton Manning is better than Bruce Gradkowski" each week, then why even come into these chats.
any chance shiancoe turns it around or should i drop him? i also have a banged up gates
Visanthe is staying at home to block, because Favre needs a little extra time to find Moss, since his route running is not exactly on the same page right now. Over time, I think he'll go back out as a receiver more.
Pick two please: Hillis, Lynch, Turner or Bradshaw?
Bradshaw and Turner.
Best flex start: Benson, Britt, Meachem
Britt if VY plays, otherwise, Meachem.
Breaston ready to roll this week?
Looking like, but with Hall under center, don't expect much.
better backup/bench value for rest of season: Deymarius Thomas, MSW, or E.Graham?
MSW. But he'll kill you with agita.
That's the gun, gang. We've got another chat on Friday, and there's always the Twitter as the kids say. Until then, Be Seeing You!
