Chat with Eric Karabell

Eric Karabell
  (3:00 PM)

Hello all and welcome to another fantasy sports chat session. We can talk football, baseball and hoops if you like, and I promise I will be typing with a smile today! Thanks for showing up and let's have some fun out there.... here we go...

Kirvin (Atlanta)

C'Mon Man!, show Atlanta some love on the chat...Pick 2 for this week R.White, Bowe, H.Nicks & M.Wallace

Eric Karabell
  (3:01 PM)

Let this be the early reminder that this week's rankings are posted at this link, and some of your questions can be answered this way... said, White and Nicks are in my top 10...

Jason (SD)

I have Michael Turner and Cedric Benson this week. Do you think its wise to play them both over say Lynch and Ivory?

Eric Karabell
  (3:03 PM)

Yes, I certainly do. I know neither have quite lived up to expectations, but I wouldn't say Lynch is coming off an awesome game, and we still don't know if Pierre Thomas will suit up. Go with the safe names.

Ari (Milwaukee)

Who is the better WR going forward? TO or Ocho?

Eric Karabell
  (3:04 PM)

Hmmm... I think it's still Chad Ochocinco, but that is a good question. Owens is outscoring Ocho 58-35 this season, yet everyone keeps ranking Ocho first. Why is that? At what point do we think the hierarchy has changed? For now, I ranked both pretty well this week, but will think a bit more next week if Owens has the better week.

Mike (DC)

Are you worried about Michael Turner (long-term and short-term vs Cincy)??

Eric Karabell
  (3:04 PM)

No, not really. He's getting the carries and he's had a few productive games. I think he will have more.

Ryan (Miami)

Eric,How do you expect Titans D/ST to hold up Fantasy Wise against a sizzzzaallinnn hott Eagles Offense?? Are they going to get burned?

Eric Karabell
  (3:05 PM)

I think both teams can allow points. The Titans stopped the Garrard-less Jaguars, but really, is that a feat? Depends a bit on whether Vince Young plays. Kolb should get the Eagles 24 points... but with turnovers. Even if this is a 27-24 game, the turnovers/sacks can make each defense worth it.

Tyler (The Big Apple, NY)

Hi Eric. Do you think Fred Davis will be a productive fill-in this week in place of Cooley? or would you rather roll the dice with Fasano?

Eric Karabell
  (3:06 PM)

I am assuming Cooley does not play - that's a normal assumption on any concussion - and yes, I'd go Davis as a top-15 TE then. Fasano isn't top 15.

Mo (Chicago)

EK: If Addai is out for a significant amount of time, would I rather own Hart, Brown or neither? Thanks!

Eric Karabell
  (3:08 PM)

I think it's Hart over Brown at this point. Brown was awesome in college - I saw him play and he looked like he'd be a nice pro - but he just can't stay healthy. Hart had a pretty decent college career, too. The Colts need a RB that can hang onto the ball, grind out carries at times, make an occasional big play. Not sure Hart can, but Brown can't help from the sidelines.

Jeffery (Not Malibu)

Spiller has been killing me. Is it time to drop him? I took him 52nd overall, but it might be time to drop him. I'd be making waiver claims on Kolb or Chris Ivory.

Eric Karabell
  (3:09 PM)

I would try to wait a bit longer, because the Bills should give Spiller more chances in the future, and the kid can play. What have the Bills had, one game since the Lynch trade? Spiller should be involved this week and I would keep him over Ivory long-term. As for Kolb, it's one more game. That's potentially it and Vick returns.

Jeff (Not playing golf where I should be)

Should anyone consider starting Hines because of his matchup over players like Austin and Lloyd?

Eric Karabell
  (3:10 PM)

I see your point, but I wouldn't do it. Austin can overcome any matchup. Don't read into his quiet Week 6. Lloyd should be back to normal this week. Ward is a strong play, but not in my top 10.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

As of Week 6 who do you think will be in Super Bowl XLV?

Eric Karabell
  (3:11 PM)

Steelers play themselves... no NFC team is worthy. OK, Pitt-Giants.

Yoko Ono (Peaceville)

Would you trade AP for Calvin and Forte. I need WRs and I have Bradshaw, Best, and Felix?

Eric Karabell
  (3:13 PM)

Interesting thought, and probably fair, but I'd have a problem dealing Peterson when the RB coming back worries me. Forte has had one decent game running the ball. And the Bears can't block anyone. Depends on need I guess, but I also think you need Peterson with that crew. When did Best last score, the Reagan administration?

Adam (Kentucky)

First off, I'd like to say I hope your having a GREAT DAY!! I have Flacco and Favre as my Qb's, and as much as I want to start Flacco against a Buffalo DEF, it seems like Favre has gone off the last 2 times he played GB, is it stupid for me to think that?

Eric Karabell
  (3:14 PM)

You have a GREAT day as well! I don't assume that the Favre we're seeing now is anything like the one who tortured defenses last season. So no, I would go Flacco, though it's close.

Bryce (DC)

PLEASE TALK ABOUT FRED JACKSON! I have not seen him mentioned anywhere. I just used my #1 Waiver priority for him (over Branch). Over/under 800yards, 6 TDs going forward?

Eric Karabell
  (3:14 PM)

He gets mentioned enough. They were on bye this past week, after all. I'll say under on the yards and scores, but he's capable of doing it. Just don't know whether the Bills can establish the run game with the defense being such a problem.. .and Spiller has to play a role at some point.

Michael (Charleston, SC)

What is going on with the RB by committee in Houston? Will Foster be adversely affected?

Eric Karabell
  (3:15 PM)

Not necessarily. Derrick Ward is running well and scoring, but I have no problem with Foster seeing fewer carries. We don't want him hurt. I wouldn't panic here.

Mike (Tempe)

Yankees have a chance tonight? Who do you see winning the World Series???

Eric Karabell
  (3:16 PM)

Well, it certainly appears the Rangers are on their way, but it's not over yet. And the NL is far from over.. go Joe Blanton!

Kurt Warner (laying on the beach somewhere)

Can Max Hall follow in my footsteps this season or is Arizona in big trouble?

Eric Karabell
  (3:18 PM)

Ya know, I've been pondering a blog in which I'd recommend Hall, but I think we need to see more. That said, I like how he played his last game. Let's not call him Warner, but there's something there.

Rick (City by the bay)

hey EK, what do you think of james starks? Drop reggie bush or cj spiller for him in a 10 team league?

Eric Karabell
  (3:18 PM)

No, not yet, because we still don't know if the Packers intend to use Starks. Certainly there would seem to be opportunity, but that doesn't mean they'll do it. But don't drop Spiller. Bush I could see.

Mike (NJ)

Eric, at what point in the season do you start overpaying for star players with the depth of your roster to maximize your starting lineup for the playoffs?

Eric Karabell
  (3:19 PM)

Would've already done it by now, so I'd say anytime. Depends. It's not necessarily looking ahead and counting those chickens before they hatch, but smart planning.

Anthony (Cali)

you get offered Beanie Wells for Colston in a PPR. You taking it?

Eric Karabell
  (3:20 PM)

Depends if I have enough WRs to field a team, but yeah, have to consider it. This Colston season might continue just like this for awhile.

rick ma [via mobile]

i have foster. would u pic up ward and drop stewart

Eric Karabell
  (3:20 PM)

No, I don't think so. Doesn't matter if you have Foster or not. It would be a handcuff situation, but I don't see why Foster can't play all games. Stewart isn't such a great own either, I admit, but... still talented.

Brian (Boston)

would you trade roddy white for randy moss and greg jennings??

Eric Karabell
  (3:21 PM)

Yeah, like yesterday. Wow.

Jeremy (Seattle)

Ranking question: Shouldn't you guys rank Woodhead at both WR and RB since he is eligible at both? Where would he be in your WR rankings? He seems to have more value there.

Eric Karabell
  (3:23 PM)

I thought about that, but ultimately decided to use him just at RB. But your point is valid. I'd argue there are far more WRs to rank, because I felt the crew was still strong at 45 and 50... I left some good WRs out. At RB, I barely found 50 to rank. I mean, we keep ranking Bernard Scott types... they don't play. At WR, I left out some decent options.

Paul (Philly)

Go Phillies! on another note, would you keep Aaron Hernandez and Celek on your roster since they are both elite TEs?

Eric Karabell
  (3:23 PM)

Well, neither are really elite. I don't think Celek is gonna all of a sudden turn his season around, either. Hernandez has a brighter future, frankly. But neither are locks for the top 10. To be an elite TE, I'd say top 5...

Hector (Without A Clue)

Drop J Stewart to pick up Garcon off Waivers?

Eric Karabell
  (3:24 PM)

Yes, that I would do. Tired of waiting for Stewart. Of course, with so little at RB, he still ranked in the top 40!

Tom (LA)

If you had to drop one...which one (M. Bush, J. Stewart, LawFirm)

Eric Karabell
  (3:24 PM)

Probably Bush. Not real impressive in Week 6... and McFadden should be back this week. But could argue Stewart just as easily.

KC (Cbus)

EK- Saw some nonsense about Felix not being able to handle his new workload and now could give up some carries? This legit?

Eric Karabell
  (3:25 PM)

That would be unfortunate, but I will look into it. Why would they do that? Ugh.

Tyler (The Big Apple, NY)

Thanks for answering my question Eric. I try to keep it as useful and entertaining as possible. No rankings questions as they are just a waste of space here.In your opinion how will these inexperienced QBs fair this week.... McCoy, Hall, and Boller?

Eric Karabell
  (3:27 PM)

Well, Boller is very experienced, he's just not very good. I think Hall, with his weapons, has a nice opportunity. I'd choose him over the others. McCoy has no weapons...

Marc (Malden, MA)

You have Kenny Britt ranked higher than Crayton and Meachum. Does that change if Collins is the QB?

Eric Karabell
  (3:29 PM)

Probably, but then again, I wouldn't fear the Eagles secondary even with Collins. Philly might allow 150 rushing yards to CJ, but they can be thrown on even by Collins.

James (TX)

Danario Alexander = Mark Clayton?

Eric Karabell
  (3:29 PM)

No, I don't think anyone can say that. Clayton had a journeyman career, but he was experienced. Alexander has played 1 game.

Adam (Work)

What is Brandon Tate's value going forward?

Eric Karabell
  (3:31 PM)

I am going to wait probably 2 more weeks before giving up on a talented deep receiver. It was one week and Branch did look rejuvenated, but it's also about timing. Tate will have his moments.

Earl (Madison)

Would you be willing to waste a high waiver claim (1 or 2) on New York Jets defense? Aren't Steelers and Jets in their own class?

Eric Karabell
  (3:32 PM)

I think they are, but the numbers don't bear that out. Steelers and Titans are the 2 best for actual scoring, and I think the Steelers stand alone. That said, I'd like to own the Jets. I'd probably rank them second for the season... but a waiver claim on a defense?

Eric, Haven't noticed Gresham's name being bandied about as a potential replacement for Gates. Is that because the staff believes he's not likely available on the wire, or does it speak to his value?

Eric Karabell
  (3:33 PM)

I think it's premature to call him a top 10 TE, but he is interesting. It's Palmer and that passing offense... yawn.

Sammy (NY)

How come you have Marshall ranked 1st? You really think Miami will be able to get the ball to Marshall a lot, especially in the end zone?

Eric Karabell
  (3:33 PM)

Well yeah, I do! Marshall is special. Matchups really don't matter, unless he's facing a healthy (and he isn't) Revis.

Colby (Fresno)

Giants in 6! Giants WS CHAMPS over Rangers in 7! Bradhsaw/SJax to much to give up for AP? Looking for star power in playoffs and would have AP and CJ.

Eric Karabell
  (3:35 PM)

You could be correct. Giants look very good. Trading 2 top 10 running backs for the potential best guy is interesting. Not sure I would do it if the league has a flex option, though... but man, it would be nice to have the 2 best.

Andy (Syracuse, NY)

Lets say Thomas isn't a go on Sunday, would you then say Ivory is a must start for just this week vs the lowly Browns?

Eric Karabell
  (3:36 PM)

They're not as lowly as you might think. Browns don't win, but that defense is not that bad.

Ricky Riccardo (TV Land)

You've got some splaining to do.... why you rank the Seattle D so low (14) compared to your fellow experts?

Eric Karabell
  (3:37 PM)

Just a hunch that the Cardinals will score this Sunday, and Hall isn't such a pushover. But I concede it looks odd to not have the Seahawks in the top 10.

TheDooo...... (Chicago)

Just tweeted you Eric about your thoughts about Snelling. Is he not worth a roster spot due to his potential and Turners injury history?

Eric Karabell
  (3:38 PM)

Turner doesn't have an extensive injury history to me. He's fine now. He's durable. I don't want to overrate last season... but certainly Snelling is next and in deeper leagues, own him.

Steve Jeltz (Coral Gables)

Thomas Jones value going sideways? (Going forward is boring). Will he get enough carries to be start-worthy?

Eric Karabell
  (3:39 PM)

Jeltz! I was there when you homered from each side of the plate in the same game... memorable game! Anyway, Jones is being overlooked, but he's in at least a time share with Charles. Not a safe RB2, but close.

Mike (Elkhart, IN)

Do "Star" RB's really need a handcuff?

Eric Karabell
  (3:41 PM)

I don't think so, but it gives us something to talk about... I mean, how many of you own Javon Ringer... is that working out?

Steve (Madison)

BASEBALL!! Who is a better keeper next year Prince Fielder, Victor Martinez, Brandon Philips or Andrew McCutchen?

Eric Karabell
  (3:42 PM)

BASEBALL!!! I'd say Phillips, but round 3. Prince drops because you never know if he'll hit 30 HR or 50. But none of these fellows in the first 3 rounds.

Marc (Charlotte)

I own Javon Ringer (14 Team, 17 Player league)

Eric Karabell
  (3:43 PM)

As you should. But in a 10-teamer, I just don't see CJ getting hurt.

Snookie (NJ)

I'm 1-5 and wanted a consistent RB so I traded Best and Austin for Mendenhall and Collie. Bad idea for the Snook?

Eric Karabell
  (3:44 PM)

Well, Snook did get a consistent RB... I can see it, I suppose... Collie could be a top 20 WR ...maybe..

C (MA)

Explain how McCutchen isn't your pick from those. Because 2B is a shallow position, I presume?

Eric Karabell
  (3:45 PM)

You presumed correct. A 20-20 2B when the position is weak matters.

Austin (Nashville)

Would you be willing to trade Jahvid Best for Peyton Hillis? I'm considering but think I may need Hillis+someone to pull the trigger.

Eric Karabell
  (3:46 PM)

Well, I'd trade Best for Hillis straight up. I've lost confidence in Best being a top 20 RB with the way he's played the past month.

Randy (Chicago)

Any value in holding onto S.Rice or VJax? I have them in different leagues. Is it time to move on?

Eric Karabell
  (3:47 PM)

Depends how many bench spots you've got. I'd try to wait longer, but it probably will be another month for each before they play. I'm still skeptical Jackson will play at at all. Chargers don't want him.

Ross (South Dakota)

I have Tolbert and Mathews but someone in my league just dropped Beanie. Should I drop Tolbert for Beanie?

Eric Karabell
  (3:51 PM)

Yes. Tolbert is barely getting carries now, and Beanie still has a nice future. Nothing has changed for him, except he was hurt and his team's QBs have stunk. Still buy low.

Darron (New Orleans)

Better FLEX option from this point going forward: Britt or Tolbert?

Eric Karabell
  (3:52 PM)

Tolbert's carries have declined 4 consecutive weeks... he had 3 carries on Sunday. Go Britt.

Guy (on the couch)

I've submitted at least 15 questions, but this is what you'll post!

Eric Karabell
  (3:53 PM)

How did you guess?

Matt (Philly)

HOOPS How do you like Brandon Jennings this year??.......PHILS IN 6

Eric Karabell
  (3:54 PM)

I'd like him more if I thought he could shoot .400 from the field. Not sure he can. But obviously a future stud, assists, points, steals, 3s...

Justin (Nashville)

What do you see from Michael Vick and Pierre Garcon the rest of the season?

Eric Karabell
  (3:55 PM)

I think Vick starts in Week 9, after the bye, and resumes his terrific play. Top 10 QB. Hold onto him. As for Garcon, he's looking like a top 20 WR the rest of the way.

C (MA)

lol @ complaining when your question isn't posted. Jeez, people. EK, I have Big Ben, Kolb, and Cutler. Roll with Ben the rest of the year?

Eric Karabell
  (3:56 PM)

Absolutely. No worries about Ben. He'll play. Kolb might not, and Cutler might get seriously hurt with his o-line springing holes.

RB (2)

Tough week for me with byes. Start Reggie Bush (if healthy) or LeGarrette Blount?

Eric Karabell
  (3:56 PM)

Man, that is tough. I'd say Bush if he plays, but I haven't heard that he's ready. Blount might get just a few carries, but if Graham can't go, he has a chance to matter. Remember, Huggins is done.

Gary (Simi Valley)

Kevin Love vs. John Wall - better keeper league option?

Eric Karabell
  (3:57 PM)

Love should be a safe 15-10 guy with blocks and FG, but man, the sky is the limit for Wall. Could be a top 10 option in 2 years... have to pick him.

Sarah (NYC)

Is your ranking of Crayton based on the assumption that neither Gates nor Floyd will play? In other words, does he go down in the rankings if Gates ends up playing?

Eric Karabell
  (3:57 PM)

No, not really about Gates, but I'm pretty sure Floyd can't play. So I assume Crayton starts with Buster Davis.

Zack (RI)

Sell high on Crabtree? Or is he gonna be this good the rest of the year?

Eric Karabell
  (3:58 PM)

No, he's legit. Just took him awhile.

Kevin (Brooklyn)

In a td heavy league, is Zach Miller for Jamaal Charles fair?

Eric Karabell
  (3:58 PM)

No, not really. Charles was a top-5 fantasy RB the second half of last year, and the skills remain... for a non-top-5 TE? No...

matt (nj)

Pick up Garcon or Branch as first waiver claim?

Eric Karabell
  (3:59 PM)

Garcon... definitely.

Eric Karabell
  (4:00 PM)

OK, that is about all the time we've got for today. Thank you for the fine questions and hope you have a great day, and good luck in Week 7!
