Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

Greetings Fight Freaks and welcome to our weekly chat. Notebook is up, as are some news stories and blogs from the week, not to mention an updated schedule, p4p rankings and divisional rankings. So check it out and let's get to it on this slow boxing weekend. Still plenty to discuss with so many fights coming the rest of the fall.

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

And don't forget to follow me on Twitter -- @danrafaelespn

Paul B (NY, NY)

Danimal- Who do you have this weekend for Nishioka vs Munroe? Go Yanks!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

Traveling overseas is always tough and Nishioka has been really fighting well of late. Munroe is solid, but I have to go with Nishioka, who has all the advantages. I think he wins a decision.

Kevin (Fall River)

Danimal, two questions about Bob Arum. 1). Have you spoken to him recently and does he appear to be in better spirits? 2). DO you know if Top Rank has continued their promise to donate $1 for each Top Rank fight to Haiti relief as they had stated?

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 PM)

I speak to Bob regularly. I spoke to him just before he left for the Philippines last week and he seems to be hanging in there well considering what he has been through. He has thrown himself into his work, which he loves. He has a lot of fights coming up that are keeping him busy. And as far as I know TR is still donating as it promised it would.

Daniel (Northridge, Ca.)

If Ward loses his fight does that qualify Biko for super six?

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 PM)

No, Bika is not going to be in the Super Six regardless of what happens in the fight with Ward.

Joel (Queens, NY )

Why are 2 east coast fighters (Edwin Rodriguez and James Mcgirt Jr) fighting in North Dakota of all places??

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 PM)

Two words: Site deal.

Scott (Hesperia, Ca)

Hey Dan, Is Showtime planning on televising the Green/Johnson fight? November 6th is a Wednesday and I know they aren't in the habit of televising fights midweek.

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 PM)

Get a calendar dude.

Joe (NJ)

Ian John-Lewis is a tool. What makes it even worse in my eyes is that he couldn't stand to hear all the swearing from Briggs corner and halted the fight. But the brutal one sided beating Briggs was enduring without throwing a single meaningful power punch back, was acceptable. What's worse a kid witnessing a potential murder or learning a new swear???

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

Couldn't agree more. HORRIBLE referee job in that fight with Klitschko. Shameful.

Chris J (Hou-Tex)

For the millions in attendance and the millions of readers that will read the transcript later. Let get ready for the Freak CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!

Nick (Harrisburg, PA)

Not surprised to hear Top Rank released Peter. They made some money off building him into a title fight...what else can he do now?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

I'm not surprised at all. As Sam's manager said, they'll start over. They feel he can compete with the rest of the division, just not the Klitschkos. Who can compete with them?

Joe (NJ)

A lot of people were worried about Briggs face during the fight, what about poor Vitali's right hand. He's gonna get arthritis.

Bob (Boston)

If the Ward-Bika fight isn?t a tournament fight, then what happens to Ward?s third Super Six fight? Who?s left to add to the tourney?

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

Nothing happens. Ward get the fight with Bika outside the tourney (and the payday) and has already advanced to the semis, but got two more points for Dirrell's "forfeit." Nobody else is being added to the field.

Gale Van Oy (The Ring)

I had Briggs up 120 - 108 vs. Klitchko

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka (Fiji Islands)

Aloha brother I just like to give my feelings on Brother Hopkins. This fight reminds me of the Islands. Hopkins being an extremely ripe Mango just hanging on the tree, many people have come by hoping it would fall. Some even tried to climb the tree without success. Now Brother Pascal (who is from Canada a special Aloha to my brothers and sisters in the Great White North) can stand at the bottom of the tree and look up praying to the heavens for a strong gust of wind to knock the Mango off. But in order to be the master of his own destiny he must climb the tree facing all fears to pick the mango himself. Aloha

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

Freakin brilliant.

Jason (Riverside, Ca)

Hey Dan wanted to ask what was with Shane Mosley on twitter saying you are causing people to leave to the UFC because you told the truth about the terrible Tarver fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 PM)

No idea. Shane a little delusional. You don't shoot the messenger. I just keep it real.

Chris J (Hou-Tex)

Katsidis just elevated himself to super badass status in my book for still wanting to fight under the circumstances.

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

Can't disagree. Knowing Michael a little I was not surprised by his decision at all. Win or lose, he always has my respect.

Joe (NYC)

Is Larry Merchant signed on with HBO in 2011?

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

Yes and beyond.

Justin (Seattle)

Loved the notebook, excellent information as always. I always enjoy the "Quotables," at the end. I was a bit surprised that with regard to trash talk, Jean Pascal might have won the round with Hopkins.

Ben (Manchester)

I know you are a huge fan of the Klitschko's but even you must admit they are wrong giving Chisora little money and tieing him down to a slave of a contract

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 PM)

I would not say I am "a huge fan of the Klitschkos." But I respect them, like them both personally and recognize and appreciate their dominance. Like any fighter who signs on to fight for a heavyweight title who is not a mandatory you're going to have to give up options. Simple as that. That is the business and the real world I live in. So Chisora had to give up three options I believe, which is normal. Whatever money Chisora makes it will be a career payday probably by times 5. And if he wins, he's heavyweight champ and will make a lot more money. If he loses, he had his chance.

navarrosugich (Mexico)

Who has better chances of winning a round against a Klitschko, David Haye or Josh Hamilton?

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

Depends if Hamilton can use his baseball bat.

Gutterdandy (nyc)

The "slave contract" myth is a smokescreen created by Ducker Haye to justify his cowardice.

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 PM)

Exactly. Slave contract is such an overused, overhyped term that is, frankly, disrespectful to the history of what a slave really was. Mayweather used the term and made himself look stupid and Haye has done the same thing, especially when you consider the options he had to give Sauerland to get the fight with Valuev. You don't like the contract, don't sign it. Nobody forced anyone to sign anything.

Will (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Dan, Are we done with the old format of the notebook? The presentation was way better with the old format.

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

I agree. Not my call.

Reid (Cleveland)

Dan - are you intrigued at all with the Ward-Bika fight? I think Bika could give Ward some problems with his style.

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

Bika is a rough guy, but I think Andre beats him fairly easily.

Jonathan (Atlanta)

Dan, is it just me that wishes it was November already? At least 24/7 starts tomorrow night.

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

Good point.

John (Miami)

Is Ricardo Torres retired?

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

That's what I have been told.

Miles (Newport Beach)

Do you think the Klitschkos are worried that Haye may lose before they land a fight with him?

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

I wouldn't say worried, but it's certainly possible.

Koichi (NYC)

Love how you answer all Oscar's contest questions on Twitter.

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

Yet I have yet to win for some reason. If I did win his free tickets I would give them to a Freak.

J (ATl)

Any word on Malignaggi opponent on BHop Pascal undercard?

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

Not yet.

JP (Columbus, OH)

I love the way the Klitschkoes talk smack..you can tell they're not your average fighter....they talk trash like educated men. "I will do paint work on your face"

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

Classic. The Klitschkos usually don't talk trash except when it comes to the Ducker.

Nucky (AC)

What drugs is Roy Jones Jr on, calling out David Haye, when he can't go 1 rd with Danny Green?

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

That was sad to see and show you how pathetic Roy's career has become.

Briks (Philly)

Do you agree with me that Glen Johnson is a horrible matchup for Allan Green? Green does not have the mental stamina to deal with a guy like Johnson who will never stop coming at you no matter what. Physically Green is probably better, but mentally Johnson will crush him.

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

Can't disagree.

Martin (Ohio)

Does Vitali reside full time in Los Angeles?

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

I believe he splits his time between LA, Hamburg and Kiev.

Tim (Denver)

Can we get Webster Dictionary to put Katsidis picture next to the word warrior?

Daryl (LA)

Dan, what you have you heard about Pac having a mediocre training camp so far. Is it true, or just rumors to sell the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 PM)

I haven't been in camp, but I have heard from folks there that Manny hasn't been as sharp as usual. But who really knows? We'll know on Nov. 13.

Clottey (Ghana)

Do you see the Pac/Marg fight doing more than 51,000. You know I was the draw in the Pacquiao fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

I expect it to much more.

Anthony (Sacramento)

Hi Dan! Any truth to the rumors of Morales vs. Barrios?

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

Yes, as I wrote a couple of days ago, that is Erik's likely fight on Dec. 18 in Tijuana. 138 pounds.

Joe (NJ)

Jones Jr./Tarver IV for the WBC Super Heavweight Championship

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 PM)

You're sick.

Dominik (TN)

You mentioned that Bute-Pavlik will be a big HBO fight. Big enough to be a PPV event?

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 PM)

No, no chance of that.

ryan (London)

The chat can't be complete without a question on Joel Julio. Whats next for Julio?

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child. Nothing concrete in the works for him at the moment. He fought and won in late August and nothing new at the moment.

Dan (New Jersey)

Is the Arreola v. Joey "Minnesota Ice" Abel fight official as the kick-off to FNF next year? If so it should be a pretty fun couple of rounds...

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

It is not official, but in the works. And if it does happen, it will be in late January NOT the season premiere on Jan. 7.

Paulie (Santa Fe)

Dan, I just don?t see anyone on the horizon who can challenge the Klitschkos. Even good fighters like Adamek and Haye give up so much in size I don?t even give them much more than a punchers chance if that.

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

There is not one heavyweight out there that I think is even all that competitive with either brother right now.

brian (paradise )

my face still hurts from the beating Briggs took ,and to hear him say he wants a rematch and lost because he hurt his hand that made me laugh he must have suffered some brain damage

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

Obviously.

Ole (Liverpool, England)

Dan, the one guy who could give the Klitschkos a fight is Roberto Cammarelle, amateur Super Heavyweight world champ, who punches like a sledge hammer but for some reason refuses to turn pro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqBHD5V6Ei8

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

You're on crack. Seek help.

Romeo (DC)

I spotted and talked to Winky Wright at the supermarket the other day. I asked him why he wasn't fighting and he told me "I am trying to find myself". I directed him to the dairy aisle.

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley.

J (ATL)

Any word on ESPN3 getting rights to David Lemieux fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:26 PM)

Nothing new for ESPN3 at the moment. If any other fights are planned I'll let ya know.

Koichi (NYC)

I'm not shaving until the Yankees are in the playoffs...if they make it to the World Series I might end up with a Danimal like beard of awesomeness/destruction.

Dan Rafael
  (12:26 PM)

I like that.

Julio (Panama)

Dan-O-Mite, Even though he is branded as a cheater for life,Does a win over pacquio help margarito erase some of the doubts about his other fights such as the cotto fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:26 PM)

No.

Ian John Lewis (England)

If I was in charge World War II would have ended in 1950.

Jeff (Dearborn, MI)

David Haye called Wladimir Klitschko, Wladimir Bitch-cko yesterday via twitter.

Dan Rafael
  (12:27 PM)

Wonderful.

Charles (Inkster,MI)

YOU WANTED THE BEST YOU GOT THE BEST!! DAN whats up my man did u get that power back on we can't have king freak in the dark!

Dan Rafael
  (12:27 PM)

Good man for reading my Twitter. Power in my neighborhood was out for about two hours last night. I sat in the dark and ready my Blackberry.

Taylor (SLC, UT)

I'm a lifetime freak. And for the first time in my entire freaking life, I had to walk away from a fight. After the 10th round of the Klitschko-Briggs fight, and I saw Briggs' busted up face...I had to walk away. I seriously thought he was going to be permanently damaged. I walked away, and followed it via news feeds. The fight should have been stopped.

MikeRo (Chicago)

Not impressed at all by Schafer's cry baby antics when he coplained that HBO holds him to a higher standard than other promotional outfits claiming they would have never bought Caballero-Litzau if it was a GBP show.

Dan Rafael
  (12:28 PM)

Agreed.

Big Jibbs (Arlington,TX)

Sup Dan, I think the idea of a Peter-Areola fight would be sick. Once again, the heavyweight division will be much more entertaining when the robotic Klitschkos go away. So many intriguing matchups without everyone shooting for them.

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

A Peter-Arreola fight would be fun. I agree.

John (Cincy)

Dan, what's up with our native son, Ricardo Williams Jr? Still making a comeback?

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

Sparring with Margarito and supposed to fight Nov. 6 I believe.

MikeRo (Chicago)

Bute's uppercut is a friggin thing of beauty

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 PM)

Yes it is.

Bing (Philly)

Dan, what are you dressing up as for Halloween this year? The Great Pumpkin or just a regular pumpkin?

Dan Rafael
  (12:31 PM)

Interim silver Pumpkin. What would boxing people come dressed as and why to a Rafael Halloween party?

Julio (Panama)

I have to admit, everytime the Ranger drove in runs I log in to see your tweets, Even though im not a NYY fan i find the very interesting...Cheers

Dan Rafael
  (12:31 PM)

Hopefully, then I will have nothing to Tweet about that tonight.

Kent (St. Catharines)

Dan, I your opinion which Yankee team do your consider the best you have ever seen?

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 PM)

1998. Hands down. And I was lucky enough to attend Game 1 of that World Series.

Brian (Penn State)

Valuev would come as himself

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 PM)

Scary right?

Ryan (Youngstown)

Well of course David Haye could come dressed as something he will never be in real life . . . a man.

Mike Tyson (Vegas)

I will come dressed as a giant ear, with a 'small' chunk missing

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 PM)

LOL!!!!

Winky Wright (Dan's House)

I guess I have to come as a milk carton. I'll cut out a spot on the side for my face.

Joe (Texas)

Dan, I read that Bute is fluent in English. Why does he not speak it when being interviewed on HBO?

Dan Rafael
  (12:34 PM)

I don't think he's fluent yet. He's working on it and I think when he is interviewed for TV he is more comfortable speaking another language.

Vitali K (LA)

My brother and I are coming to your Halloween party as a tandem. He will be dressed in a chicken costume with the words "David Haye" on the front. I will be dressed as myself. He will chase me around all night and when I finally step towards him, he will run away from me. We will repeat this all night long.

Dan Rafael
  (12:35 PM)

Legendary.

Zim (Boston)

Paulie Malignaggi with blue hair or maybe extensions. Only problem is that I wouldn't be able to bring any punch...

Lennox Lewis (UK)

I would come to the party as a bottle of Absolute(ly) Vodka.

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

Gary Shaw says he is coming to the Halloween party: "I am coming as a animal control officer, looking for my Perro with no collar on him."

Chad (Las Vegas)

I am going dressed as Floyd Mayweather....In other words a CHICKEN.

Floyd Mayweather (Las Vegas, NV)

I'd definitely come to your party dressed as Money. But only if the other guests adhere to strict costume testing to determine the legitimacy of their outfits. There's a good chance I'll end up picking a fight with your wife if i show up though.

Sid Brumback (Ohio)

I'm available for Halloween make ups.

Curious aspiring freak (America)

Daniel-sahn DANIEL-SAHN!! You must FO-cus on my question. Were you as scared for Lamont Peterson when he agreed to the fight with Victor Ortiz? If he gets caught as much as he did against Bradley does he go down, or do you see it differently?

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 PM)

I think it's a very attractive matchup and I am looking forward to it. I like it a lot better than Kaiser Mabuza, who was also mentioned.

Brian (Penn State)

Gale Van Hoy will be one of the costume judges

Margarito (Mexico)

Im gonna make my costume out of plaster

Daryl (LA)

RJJ will be in his traditional Captain Hook attire, and FMJ will accompany him as Peter Pan as they are both stuck in Never-never Land.

Zab Judah (LV)

I will be dressed as a shower door.

Matthew Hatton (Manchester)

I was going as Ricky, but we all know the universe would implode if there were TWO!

Joel (Queens, NY)

"I am coming as a animal control officer, looking for my Perro with no collar on him." LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

That Gary Shaw is a funny dude.

Ryan (Youngstown)

Paulie Malignaggi should come dressed normally, but everyone will assume he is one of the Jersey Shore kids.

Rick (williamsville,NY)

How are yehhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

Hiya buddy.

Jim Lampley (HBO)

I will come as a Gun, BANG! BANG! BANG!

Ian John-Lewis (London)

I thought Briggs looked great. He had a real shot heading into the latter rounds.

Oliver (Newfoundland, Canada)

Although I am a little disappointed this chat has turned into another joke chat (to soon after the BBQ chat to really live up to it) I do think Gary Shaw's comment is amazing.

Barney Rubble (Bedrock)

Im gonna come dressed as Gary Shaw

Kelly Pavlik (Youngstown)

The ghost is coming to your party.

Bob (Canada)

Teddy Atlas wanted Povetkin to train more and take a couple of fights before he fights either of the Klitchkos. Do you think he will pose any real threat to either of them with more training?

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

Honestly, no. I think Povetkin could train for the rest of his life and I would pick the brothers over him. And that is no knock on Teddy. I just think it's bad style fight for him and most other heavyweights against the brothers.

Nick (Harrisburg, PA)

Oscar is going as Alexander the Great...and he'll try and take over your entire party

Dan Rafael
  (12:43 PM)

LOL!!

John (Phoenix)

Jose Suliaman will be attending as a criminal. He cannot decide which kind.

J (ATL)

Which fight are you looking forward to the most on the pac marg card?

Dan Rafael
  (12:44 PM)

I'm a bit interested in seeing Rigondeaux live for the first time and seeing him step up against a seasoned veteran.

Chris M. (Hong Kong (via Toronto))

This Freak is currently in Hong Kong, where the Klitschko-Haye feud is getting lots of BBC Asia attention. The consensus: David Haye is one crispy Peking DUCKer.

Joe (Stamford, CT)

Your item on a possible John-Gamboa fight got me psyched. Will it really happen? And, the more important question. Should it fall through, will Top Rank look to make a similarly tough fight for Gamboa? Are they finally willing to take his training wheels off?

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 PM)

I think it's possible, but it won't be an easy negotiation. I think it will happen if HBO says that's the fight it wants. I like that match and it's a mandatory fight anyway. Good test for Gamboa and a John's first legit defense in awhile.

James Kirkland (Texas)

I got a slightly used prison jumpsuit if anyone needs a costume.

Fernando (Ft Carson)

Now that we are only a couple of weeks out whats your pick for Juanma/ Marquez?

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

I've always liked Juanma in that fight. I think he stops Marquez in an exciting fight.

jcs (wpg, canada)

I heard Povetkin was gonna come but Teddy wanted him to try on a few more costumes first, so maybe next year.

Shannon Briggs (Brooklyn)

I will come as a punching bag, you can hit my face all night, and I won't hit back.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Andre Berto is going as a burglar, since he is already stealing HBO's money.

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

Ouch.

Richard (Oxford (UK))

Dan, any truth to the hideous rumour that the WBA is soon to have an interim, regular, and super title holder at middleweight? If so, vomit bags for everyone!

Dan Rafael
  (12:50 PM)

Yeah, it's true. Pathetic. The WBA is a piece of crap.

Joey (Winston-Salem)

Dan, I predict Katsidis Marquez will be fight of the year. I can't wait!!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:51 PM)

It's possible. Both guys have been in a lot of good fights.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

David Haye is dressing up as a skeleton, he want to know what it feels like to have a backbone.

Dan Rafael
  (12:51 PM)

Oh man.

Koichi (NYC)

I wonder if you go trick or treating at the WBC office, will Sulaiman be giving out belts instead of candy?

Nick (Seattle)

Is the Ward/Bika fight for Wards' WBA title? (not that I care too much)

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

Yes, why wouldn't it be?

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, Texas)

Dan, Donaire keeps talking about his opponent being so legit simply because he is a world champion... Is Wladimir Sidorenko really that good in comparison to the rest of that division?

Dan Rafael
  (12:54 PM)

Sidorenko has been one of the top handful of banamweights for several years. He does not have a title right now, but I have in the top 10 in the weight class.

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, Texas)

Is there any WBA fight that's not for a title?

Dan Rafael
  (12:56 PM)

Apparently not.

Mitch (Oakland)

Dan, I don't see Kelly beating neither Bute nor Martinez. They act like those are his only fights, but I think for his long-term marketability, he should fight some Allan Green types for a while.

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 PM)

What makes you think there is a market for that kind of fight? I don't see HBO or Showtime buying a fight like that nor do I see anyone buying on TR PPV. Kelly can't make good money for that kind of fight and at this point in his career why waste time? Bute, Martinez-Williams winner are the money fights for him. Now maybe neither will work out and something else comes up but those are the obvious money fights and in this business you take those kinds of fights at this stage of your career.

Mark (Minneapolis)

Ken Hershman is dressing up as a tailor, for all the patchwork he's done this year.

Greg (PA)

Who is next in line for a WBC Title shot vs Vitali Klitschko?

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 PM)

The winner of the Dec. 17 eliminator between Odlanier Solis and Ray Austin.

psycho (LaLaLand)

is Holyfield allowed to bring all his kids to the party? or it doesnt hold space for 300 ppl?

Brian (Penn State)

Jermain Taylor will compete in the apple dunking contest only to lose with a bite left

Richard (oxford UK)

Rendell Munroe might have up to 500 fans in the arena in Tokyo who have followed him over there. And he is as blue collar as you can get. Say what you like about UK fight fans, but damn we support our guys!

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

That's great that that many Brits are going all the way to Japan for the fight. The Brits do support their guys that is for sure.

chris (overland park, ks)

Dan, you tweeted that if Vitali had thrown a body shot or two the fight might have been over for Briggs. What about an uppercut? That was open all day long. He could of laid Briggs out.

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

That too.

psycho (LaLaLand)

Juanma Marquez will dress as a toilet in honour to his favourite beverage

NYPD Blue (Brooklyn)

Dan, where does Vitali's destruction of Briggs rank for you as far as brutal, one-sided beatdowns?

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

Honestly, I cannot think of a heavyweight fight in which one guy took so many repeated, flush shots to the head. Klitscko landed at will. I can't think of another like that in which the guy didn't go down and didn't throw anything meaningful back for 12 complete rounds. It was amazing.

Tom E (Jersey City, NJ)

How surprised were you to hear the Zsolt Erdei news? Seemed to come out of nowhere.

Dan Rafael
  (1:04 PM)

I wasn't surprised since I had heard it was possible a probably a month before it was done.

Paul B (NY, NY)

Pierre Benoist, Ian John Lewis, and Gale Van Hoy will go as the 3 stooges

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, Texas)

Dan, what about Ali-Holmes? Ali got brutalized

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 PM)

Didn't go 12.

Greg (Armonk, NY)

Lopez/Marquez; Marquez/Katsidis; Froch/Abraham; Khan/Madaina; Ortiz/Peterson - boxing may finish on a high note

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

That is the hope. And don't forget the bantamweight tournament semis and Martinez-Williams 2, which could be the best of all.

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, Texas)

Dan, I really enjoyed the blog in which you graded and articulated each fight for the remainder of 2010. I would enjoy more break downs like that at once when we get a good stretch of fights

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

I'll see what I can do.

Rob (Denton, Tx)

What if Martinez wins a closley contested bout, have they discussed a trilogy ?

Dan Rafael
  (1:11 PM)

I don't think so. If the second fight is a great fight a third fight is always possible.

Chris (Vancouver BC)

D Nice, ive heard of Erdei for years and years but havent even seen a clip of him fighting. In your opinion, is this guy the goods?

Dan Rafael
  (1:11 PM)

Excellent technical boxer, not all that exciting, although his fight at cruiserweight for a title with Fragomeni was a pretty darn good fight to watch.

Mirus (Ottawa, Canada)

Do you agree with most people that Andre Berto is now the most overpaid undercard fighter in the world?

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 PM)

Yes.

Power Pellets (Las Vegas)

Dan is it true your haunted house is filled with WBC rankings and clips of Billy Dib fights?

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 PM)

Love it.

Dave (Rochester, NY)

Paul DANley, thanks for the twitter recommendation on the hbo pacman-margarito "face off". how cool was it when freddie roach said that pac stops margarito within 8. then, cheato asked if they thought he was crippled and roach said "no, i watched your last 2 fights". Classic Freddie Roach!

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

The face off was excellent, that's why I Tweeted the link. Glad you liked it.

chris (nyc)

DAN, If Bernard beats Pascal do you think he will retire?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

I'd be surprised if he did. If he wins, there will be another huge payday out there for him and BHop, like all of us, likes money.

Pat (Peoria, IL)

Best comparison for Klitschko-Briggs was Holmes-Cobb, but I recall Cobb showing at least a little more.

Dan Rafael
  (1:14 PM)

Exactly. Briggs showed ZERO.

Chris (Vancouver BC)

LETS GO HUGHES! I believe Dan, I believe.

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 PM)

Me too!

Taylor (SLC, UT)

I saw your tweet about Dominic Wade. What's his pedigree? Legitimate contender?

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

He was a good amateur. As a pro, he is like 9-0, 7 KOs. He's not a contender now. He's a prospect, He's a young kid from Maryland, only 20. I have liked what I have seen in a few of his early fights I have seen. He defintely has good power and he's just a baby. I'd love to see him get some TV time next year on ESPN in an opening fight or on ShoBox.

Brian (Penn State)

Maybe I missed it but did BHop say where he's training at?

Dan Rafael
  (1:18 PM)

Right now he is training in Philly.

Gerardo (AZ)

I disagree that Briggs showed "ZERO". Kevin Johson showed ZERO! Briggs showed a little more than that.

Dan Rafael
  (1:19 PM)

Actually I disagree. Briggs showed zero and got absolutely freakin pounded and destroyed and laid waste to. Johnson showed zero but at least didn't get crushed physically.

Gil (nyc)

Why all the venom towards Berto? He likes money like everyone else and he's not going to turn it down ... Maybe I'm reading it the wrong way and its meant for HBO

Dan Rafael
  (1:20 PM)

I have zero venom toward Andre. I like him a lot. He's a great guy and a hard worker. I have issues with the way HBO has bent over backwards for him and wasted millions that could have gone toward better, more compelling fights for either Andre or others.

Brooks (New Hampshire)

Hey Dan - Floyd -vs- Duran at 135. Who you got?

Dan Rafael
  (1:21 PM)

Please. Duran catches up to him eventually and knocks him into next century.

carlos (houston,tx)

Hola DTM, happy Friday!! Am I a freak when I wake up every morning checking ESPN Boxing website for new updates before saying Good morning to my wife?

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 PM)

Impressive. Probably shouldn't tell that to your wife.

Curt (new Brunswick, NJ)

Sergio Mora did a heck of a job with the color commentary on ESPN3. In fact, I'd rather hear him talk than watch him fight.

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

Agreed. Sergio is a solid commentator.

mjay (mtl)

hi dan! what you think of lucian bute???? is he the best 168 pound??

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

I rank Ward ahead of him at the moment, but clearly it's Ward and Bute in whatever order you prefer.

Gil (nyc)

For all the young people who may be perplexed by Dan's prediction about a Duran Mayweather match please checkout some old Duran footage ... Truly special talent at 135

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 PM)

Exactly. I have some DVDs of PRIME Duran at 135 and he was a BEAST. There is a reason why many consider him one of the top 5-10 fighters ever. I'm not talking about Duran as late 30s middleweight. I'm talking about early/mid-70s 135 beast Duran who could do everything.

Power Pellets (Las Vegas)

Dan I was looking into your haunted house some more. Is it true there would be one whole section just called "Hartford"?

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 PM)

I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you.

AJ Pesh (Strathcona MN)

Your schedule shows Dyah Davis fighting Aaron Prior Jr on Nov 5th, while other schedules show Davis fighting Henry Buchanon. Is Prior Jr a for sure opponent?

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

From what the promoter told me, yes.

Scott (Staten Island)

Duran at 135 might be the P4P, best talent ever.

Dan (Philly)

Is it true a Mike Jones and Kell Brook fight is trying to be made after Jones' fight on Nov. 5th?

Dan Rafael
  (1:28 PM)

It is possible for next year.

Devale (Chicago)

I need to find some Duran footage, I know he was good but being born in 1978 i get the feeling im not fully appreciating him.

Dan Rafael
  (1:29 PM)

You're not.

Troof (Philly)

Oh my god, way to beat something to death Dan. Post everyone that agrees with you about Duran. Classy move.

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 PM)

I have yet to see a post from someone who doesn't tough guy.

Joel (Queens, NY)

Roberto Duran Vs Henry Armstrong

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

Wow, probably one of the all-time great fantasy matches.

Joel (Eastchester, NY)

Dan, with Pascal/Hopkins being on regular Showtime, do you expect the rest of the undercard to be filled with GYM fighters?

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

Both promoters will probably have spots on the undercard.

Kent (St. Catharines)

Duran was a beast at 135 but my favorite "Hands of Stone" fight was when he beat Iran Barkley in 1989. Showed the tank was far from empty when properly motivated. Even though he was past his prime.

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 PM)

That fight was Duran WAY past his prime and way above his best weight and he still beat a top guy to win another title. Just part of the Duran legend. And that was a teriffic fight.

Dave (Rochester, NY)

Dan isn't "beating someone to death", dummy. The guy asked for Dan's opinion on the hypothetical fight and Dan answered. Other posts were giving their own opinions.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Any chance your proding of Showtime gets us a second fight to go with Pascal v Hopkins?

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 PM)

I hope so. Golden Boy is trying.

JB (Toronto)

I've seen a lot of Duran's 80s fights when he was at welter. What are the quintessential earlier fights that are must see bouts?

Dan Rafael
  (1:37 PM)

Just look at any lightweight title defense or when he won the title.

Koichi (NYC)

Troof, do you know Bing?

Dave (Rochester, NY)

My favorite Duran moment was when he spit in Sugar Ray's face AFTER the final bell of their first fight. No hugs or handshakes or kind words after 15 hard rounds.

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

That's because Duran could be a mean SOB in addition to being a great fighter.

Dan Rafael
  (1:39 PM)

Me and Duran along with some other guys: http://twitpic.com/2qsb6j

Victor (Chicago, IL)

Under or Over for Jorge Linares-Jesus Chavez?

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 PM)

Chavez is tough so it could last awhile but Linares should beat him down.

Keith H (Seattle)

Check out the Ken Buchanan fight when Duran won the lightweight title. Buchanan was a respected lightweight and Duran just destroyed him.

Jeff (Las Vegas)

Dan don't gorget wgat duran did to Davey Moore after everyone thought he was washed up! Cover of Sports Illustrated I believe

mike (baltimore)

Hey Dan, any news of any other undercard fights for williams-martinez 2? I read somewhere mentioned that fernando guerrero would fight on the card

Dan Rafael
  (1:43 PM)

I've heard him mentioned as a possibility. Time to break him in in Atlantic City. But I don't think it's set yet. So far only Erdei.

Kevin (Plymouth, MI)

I loved the 135 Duran quote of "I was out of shape. Next time I won't send him to the hospital, I'll send him to the morgue".

bob (ct)

better fight experience Mohegan sun or foxwoods

Dan Rafael
  (1:44 PM)

Both good. Mohegan has the better arena. Fox Theater at Foxwoods is a really nice place for a smaller fight.

John (Phoenix)

Ricky Hatton said he would come as Snow White.

Dan Rafael
  (1:44 PM)

That's just wrong.

Calvin (UK)

David Haye would come as Count Duckula obviously!

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

Hilarious.

guano man (Puerto Rico)

dan will there be any tv for morales vs barrios

Dan Rafael
  (1:48 PM)

Televisa in Mexico.

Alan (Plantation, FL)

Dan, which crusierweight fight was better Jirov-Toney or Mormeck-Bell I?

Dan Rafael
  (1:49 PM)

Jirov-Toney was better IMO. I think it's probably the best or second-best cruiserweight fight ever. Holyfield-Qawi 1 is the other.

Julio (Panama)

Dan-O, Is mayorga fighting again? I was bored and saw Trinidad Mayorga, and love or hate him , Mayorga con put on a good show

Dan Rafael
  (1:50 PM)

I am told Don King would like to put Mayorga on the undercard of the Dec. 17 show he's doing in Miami, but at this point, just talk.

KlitschkoFan (UK presser)

Did you hear Klitschko manager - Boente - calling you the most respected boxing writer when he was making his point on David "the ducker" Haye.

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 PM)

LOL. Didn't hear that. Where was that?

Geovany (San Diego)

Hey Dan, I am having a discussion with coworkers. Can you help us settle it?? how would you rank the following at 135: Mayweather, Pacman, Mosley, Chavez, Duran.

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

I guess it would go like this (based on what they actually DID at 135, so relax Manny fans): Duran, Chavez, Mosley, Mayweather, Pacman.

Chris (Chula Vista)

Dan, do you think Bernard Hopkins can beat up Hershel Walker? Did you see them on espn? Nice tidbit they had.

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

I have it in my DVR but I have not seen it yet.

Nick (Kansas)

Dan, why would Golden Boy sign a terribly boring fighter like Morel? Seriously, what upside does he bring to the table? He lost to an ancient Gerry last time out.

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

I have no idea why GB is wasting their time with Morel. Absolutely none.

Dave (Rochester, NY)

Dan, I agree with you on the Jirov-Toney fght. How about the fact that Toney destroyed Jirov to the body late in the fight?! The bodypuncher goes down from vicious body shots.

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

It was impressive. I was ringside and I swear you could hear Jirov grunt when he went down from that shot.

Roy (Reno)

Dan, I know you aren't an MMA guy but are you at all interested in the Brock fight this weekend?

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

Not at all.

pauly (austin texas)

hey dan will espn do more fights on their espn3 website and replay them on espn the next day. i liked that the bute and klitschko fight were in hd on sunday too

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

I think it's something we could certainly see more of.

Alan (Plantation, FL)

Dan, any news on the whereabouts of O' Neil Bell?

Dan Rafael
  (1:56 PM)

Not a clue. Maybe at the hatchet store?

Jeff (Greensboro)

Dan, enjoyed your cut-ins on the ESPN3 fights last weekend. Any consideration to doing fight color commentary for ESPN3 in the future?

Dan Rafael
  (1:58 PM)

If asked.

al (denver)

what's up with mile high mike alvarado? more trouble with the law?

Dan Rafael
  (1:58 PM)

In the can as far as I know.

J (ATL)

Does Katsidis usually train in Thailand for his fights? I thought that was pretty sweet.

Dan Rafael
  (1:59 PM)

Yes, he does and has been for the past few years.

Eddie (Mpls)

Dan, I appreciate Barry Hunter's honesty about his fighter. Refreshing.

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 PM)

I assume you are referring to the item I wrote today about Anthony and the DQ and I agree with you.

Mitch (Oakland)

Dan. Last week, I had an occasion to list out the things for which I am grateful. I listed my wife, daughter, and job of course. But this friday chat made my top 10. It's a highlight of my week. Thank you.

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 PM)

I'm honored.

Mike (Imperial Beach)

Will any care about a Rocky Juarez - Juan Diaz match?

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 PM)

In Houston, if it happens.

Brian (Penn State)

Hey Dan, I was watching Oquendo vs Etienne the other night on Classic. Hilarious fight. Never saw someone get knocked down that many times. Glass Chin Etienne

Dan Rafael
  (2:04 PM)

I was at that and sitting next to a prominent writer who continually made really rude remarks about Etienne every time he went down. Problem was sitting right behind us and hearing every word was Etienne's mother. That was not a good scene. And, as one other writer who was there, Michael Katz, put it -- Etienne didn't have a glass chin, he had a glass head as most of the knockdowns were not chin shots.

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 PM)

By the way -- I remember desperately wanting to actually put some money down on that fight because Oquendo was a BIG underdog and I had him all the way winning that one.

Bob (VA)

Seeing as how good Duran was, how big of a surprise was it when Sugar Ray made him say 'No Mas'?

Dan Rafael
  (2:06 PM)

Very, which is why it's one of the most memorable moments in boxing history.

Kevin Nakamoto (Chula Vista)

Hey Dan. Would you come over here if I asked you too? I would like some company and chat about random stuff like tacos.

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 PM)

These are my readers.

Paul B (NY, NY)

Please rank in terms of most to least interest: WNBA, MMA, World Cup Soccer, Nascar, watching Billy Dub fights.

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 PM)

NASCAR, WNBA, MMA, Dib, soccer.

Braindamaged2too (the Asylum)

I heard David Haye is coming to the Halloween Party as a highway line painter.........since he already has a yellow stripe down his back!

Dan Rafael
  (2:08 PM)

Dang.

Jay (PA)

Who's next for Vitali?

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 PM)

Maybe Adamek, but he also will have a mandatory. The eliminator is in December. Vitali is supposed to come back around March. Timing could be off. I wouldn't be surprised to see Vitali have a March fight and then a summer fight with the mandatory.

Nick (Queens)

Dan, talk to the fantasy sports guys: The Freaks want a Fantasy Boxing Pick Em League!

Dan Rafael
  (2:13 PM)

That would be cool wouldn't it?

Jerry (Philly)

How long does David Haye before he?s forced to fight his mandatory? If it?s Chagaev it will by far be his toughest fight yet.

Dan Rafael
  (2:14 PM)

If he beats Harrison, that could be the next fight.

Peter (Philadelphia)

I'm assuming your going to Big D in November but are you planning any other road trips this year (Quebec City, Newark, Atlantic City)?

Dan Rafael
  (2:16 PM)

Dallas for sure, already ticketed. Plan to be in Newark and AC as well. Quebec City too far in the future to think about right now. Too many other fights first.

Brian (Jersey)

Dan, does Adamek have ANY chance against Vitali? What a size disparity.

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

I don't give him a shot, but at least he's a guy who deserves the shot.

Paul B (NY, NY)

I enjoyed the Max Kellerman faceoff between Pac, Cheato, and the trainers. Classic when "Cheato responded to the KP prediction with "do I look crippled." and Freddie responded with "No. I saw your last 2 fights". I nearly fell out of my seat!!!

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

Classic line. Freddie being Freddie.

Ron McKenzie (Cincinnati)

Margarito will be coming to the party dressed as Cheet-O.

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 PM)

Naturally. But he will say Capetillo dressed him.

Archie (Queens)

Dan, your choice: a completion of the Super Six tournament or a straight up fight between Ward and Bute?

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 PM)

I'd actually like to see the tournament conclude. I've followed it for a year and a half. Let's get through it and then move on to Ward, if he wins it, against Bute, if Bute is still standing.

Tom (Dallas, Texas)

Dan you said Pernell Whitaker is out as Paul Spadafora's trainer. Did they say who would be replacing him?

Dan Rafael
  (2:22 PM)

Nobody yet. I am told they might give Whitaker a second chance but apparently Whitaker has fallen off the wagon. Hope it's not true.

Frankie (Manchester)

Dan, i think it's appalling that Dereck Chisora has to sign a contract which stipulates he has a 3 fight contract, if he were to win we won't see Haye-Chisora, oh no were stuck with Vitali-Chisora!

Dan Rafael
  (2:23 PM)

Get over it.

Jay (PA)

Is ESPN picking up Klitschko-Chisora?

Dan Rafael
  (2:24 PM)

I think it's possible but do not know. I know the Klitschkos are interested in a similar deal they had for the previous two fights.

Joe (NJ)

Dan-O-mite. Way to get a name drop from Bernd Boente durring the Klitschko/Chisora press conference in the UK.. "the ducker" LOL. Here's the youtube link from Frankwarren channel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRu40ajaVaE It's at the 10 minute mark

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 PM)

Nice.

Ron (Bethel, Ct)

Danno, I still notice the dreaded TBA next to David Lemieux's fight that is one week away...I thought he was fighting Camacho Jr????

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 PM)

It is, just my bad for not putting Camacho in there.

Brian (NC)

The Klitschko Brothers must ask themeselves the same question General Zod did in Superman 2. "Is there no one on this planet to even challenge me?" (Besides my Brother)

Todd (Tn)

Come on Dan stop being a cheerleader for Klitscko's you know their contracts aren't fair.

Dan Rafael
  (2:26 PM)

Dude get a clue. That is business in the heavyweight division. Was it fair for Sauerland to get three options on Haye for the Valuev fight? I'll say it again -- when you fight for a heavyweight title as a non-mandatory that's life.

Jose Sulaiman (WBC)

I am pleased to announce that Winky Wright has been declared WBC Milk Carton Missing Persons Super Champion in Hiding. I would ask him to defend the title within 90 days, but he is nowhere to be found, and I need my sanctioning fee.

Charles (DFW)

Any chance Shumenov-Brahmer takes place in Las Vegas? Both guys need some American exposure. Definitely not a main event, but would work as a co-feature to a bigger fight.

Dan Rafael
  (2:27 PM)

I am not sure where the fight will be if it's made.

Larry (Phoenix, AZ)

Dan, not to be harsh... but if Dirrell fights again, then he's a liar, right? Wouldn't that be an admission of guilt, seeing as how he has a "brain injury"?

Dan Rafael
  (2:29 PM)

No, because if he is cleared to fight medically that's the story. The point was, apparently, that he was not able to fight at this point. I am not a doctor. I have not seen the tests.

Power Pellets (Las Vegas)

Speaking of the Milk Carton, what ever happened to Kid Diamond?

Dan Rafael
  (2:31 PM)

Been drinking something more powerful than milk.

Joel (Queens, NY)

Fill in the blank: Alexander vs Bradley in......

Dan Rafael
  (2:32 PM)

January.

Huff (DeKalb, IL)

In regards to the 4 man bantam tourney on Showtime, what happens in the case of a draw?

Dan Rafael
  (2:32 PM)

Good question. I think it's Showtime's discretion. If there is a tiebreaker, it could be total scorecard rounds.

Nate-Denver,Co [via mobile]

What's with Oscar tweeting to pick the opposite of your fight predictions?

Dan Rafael
  (2:34 PM)

I think he was busting my chops.

Nick (Harrisburg, PA)

Dan, sparing me the crystal ball jokes, how long before you think America has another lineal heavyweight champion? 10 years?

Dan Rafael
  (2:34 PM)

Spare me the pointless questions.

Todd (Tn)

Ok then Dan if that is just the way fight for a heavyweight title is then why are you calling Haye a "ducker" instead of smart for not taking the K2 promotion deal? When you just admitted it was bad.

Dan Rafael
  (2:37 PM)

It's not bad, or certainly no worse than his deal with Sauerland. The point is HE called out the Klitschkos REPEATEDLY and nastily. Then he SIGNED for the fight with Wlad and pulled out just before the fight. Then he agreed to fight Vitali under the SAME deal but wouldn't sign. Then he was offered the deal he originally wanted -- 50-50 across the board with no options and was granted that. Then he said that wasn't good enough. He's the ducker.

Malik (Harlem)

How the media loves the klitchko if they wasnt white nobody would of heard of them they suck

Dan Rafael
  (2:38 PM)

You're ignorance gave me a good laugh just now. Thanks.

jcs (winnipeg, can)

Malik is a moron.

Dan Rafael
  (2:39 PM)

We know this.

Joe (NJ)

Malik banned??

Dan Rafael
  (2:40 PM)

Not even worth it.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Yo Malik, if your a boxing fan at all(and why would you be in this chat if you weren't), you can't deny their skill and dominance.

Silver Warrior (niskayuna)

Dan, am I banned?

Gutterdandy (nyc)

So options are only "evil" when they are in a K-2 contract? No logic there whatsoever.

Dan Rafael
  (2:42 PM)

Exactly.

Devale (Chicago)

Malik is a troll

Dan Rafael
  (2:42 PM)

Stop insulting trolls.

Nizzi (Des Moines, IA)

What is it going to take for Calzaghe to come out of retirement? There are more prime opponents now in the Super Middleweight and Light Heavy division than there ever were during his reign.

Dan Rafael
  (2:43 PM)

Who cares? Let him enjoy retirement. The obsession with Joe unretiring is scary at time. If he comes out, fine. If not, great. I mean get over it already.

Mark (Mary Esther, FL)

James Toney is coming to the Halloween party dressed as the Hamburglar

Dan Rafael
  (2:43 PM)

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark (Minneapolis)

Malik knows as much about boxing as he does about typing a complete sentence.

Anthony (Sacramento)

Malik let me write this so youll understand: you'sa foo!

David (Houston)

Hey Malik..."they wasnt white" makes no sense. Go back to school Brotha

Dan Rafael
  (2:44 PM)

When Freaks attack. Gotta love it.

Jon (Bostn)

Dan I heard a rumor that if Peter Manfredo Jr wins November 12th, that he will headline a FNF card with Edwin Rodriguez as the co main event, is there any truth to that?

Dan Rafael
  (2:45 PM)

It's possible for late January.

SammyB (CA)

Dan, do you think Pacquiao-Clottey was Fixed?Do you think that Pacquiao-Margarito will be a Fixed fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:47 PM)

Seriously? This is the best you can do?

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Paging Erislandy Lara........................

Dan Rafael
  (2:48 PM)

Good question. I'll see what I can find out.

Aaron (Hartford)

Dan....do you consider Manfredo a "World Champion" ??

Dan Rafael
  (2:49 PM)

About as much as I consider Hartford paradise.

Rob (New York)

Can you explain exactly what it means by "options" when the brothers opponents sign contracts to fight them?

Dan Rafael
  (2:51 PM)

It means K2 retains certain promotional rights to a set number of future fights. It's not just K2 that uses them. They are common for non-mandatory fights. Sometimes they are strictly financial -- as in if the guy wins the other promoter retains a financial interest in a set number of future fights but his promoter still calls the shots. Sometimes the promoter who has the options also becomes an active participant in decision making as well for a set number of fights. In the case of Haye, if he beats a Klitschko, K2 has the right to dictate his next opponent(s), specificed as against the other brother.

Aaron (Philly)

What is with these people accusing fights of being fixed? I've heard people say the Pacquiao vs Clottey fight was fixed the Mayweather vs Mosley fight was fixed. I don't get it.

Dan Rafael
  (2:52 PM)

Some people are moronic.

Dennis (Pittsburgh!)

"Hartford - paradise" hahahahaha! Why do people from Hartford even bother....

Ron McKenzie (Cincinnati)

Dan, I know you want this kept secret, but your chats are fixed.

Ronak (NY)

Fill in the blank: Floyd Mayweather will next fight __________.

Dan Rafael
  (3:00 PM)

a court case.

Dan Rafael
  (3:01 PM)

OK, Freaks, thanks for chatting. Hope you check out all the stories and blogs and everything else posted the past few days. Enjoy the weekend and we'll do it again next week. Peace.

Dan Rafael
  (3:02 PM)

One more thing Freaks.

Dan Rafael
  (3:03 PM)

Fresh from the Bat Email. I asked Showtime spokesman Chris DeBlasio to answer the question about what would happen if there is a draw in the bantamweight tourney semifinals and here was the response I just got: "Each man gets two fights regardless. In the event of a draw, Showtim would work with all parties in the tournament and ultimately pick the fighter who would face the winner of the other bout."

Dan Rafael
  (3:03 PM)

Hope that clears it up. Talk to you next week.
