Happy Friday! Unless you're a member of the Indianapolis Colts. It's bad news bye week. TE Dallas Clark on IR - will need wrist surgery. WR A Collie out for several weeks following thumb surgery. At least you have another week before they were going to play again. What else is on your mind?
Awful game last night, but I have faith the Giants will win one in Philly. There's been very little news about the extent of Malcom Floyd's injury. Do you think he will play in Week 8?
I guess if you're Number One then I'm Number Two...very sad, but hoping they can pull it off in Philly. As far as Floyd, it was a hamstring injury, obviously serious enough for them to know pretty early that he would not play this week. We'll have to see how/if he practices next week.
I'm real nervous about the Charger receiving corps. Who will be the sure bet No.1? Davis? Crayton?
As a follow to the Floyd injury, imagine how RIvers feels. Looks like Crayton's stock goes way up this week.
Will Darren McFadden start this weekend?
Mike: Not sure if he will start but it is looking as if he'll play. Too soon to get Friday practice reports yet but he did put in some work both Weds and Thurs (good sign, back-to-back days). I'm not sure he's tested it at full speed - and then there's the speed of the game - but I think he's shown enough to play and it should be a run heavy day for the Raiders (Kyle Boller could end up at QB).
When do you think D Jax should and will return to the field? That was an awful hit he took.
Rachel: The problem is there's no way to predict concussion recovery. There just isn't. It's really a matter of how he feels from one day to the next and when he can begin to increase his activity, and then how he responds to that. Pretty confident no one will be rushing him, but whether it's two weeks, four weeks or the season, we just can't say.
I heard something about Nicks hamstring today...have you heard anything? Does he play this Monday???
Danny: The news was that he was riding the bike on the side at practice, so naturally there was concern. But he reportedly said he just had some fatigue so they kept him to this vs practice, esp since game is not until Monday night. As of now, looks like he plays.
Stephania, I know the prognosis is about a month for high ankle sprains to heal. Do you think Steve Smith South coming back after 3 weeks will limit his big-play ability?
Bram: No. Not if he's as well-recovered as he appears to be. The time frames are always a guideline - and there's a lot of room for differences both in terms of individual players' rate of healing, degree of injury, etc. The best clue we have about how he's doing is that he had three full practices one after the other and showed no setbacks or limitations. Will feel better if he can get through game and come out feeling no worse, but right now no reason to doubt his readiness (and he's listed as probable, so expect to play).
Is Knowshon Moreno's hammy all better? Can we expect anything out of him in the next few weeks with him facing Oakland, San Fran, and KC?
RYan: It's better enough that he's not on the injury report. So he's practicing fully and I think they plan on using him plenty. I'm still a little nervous - as in, risk of recurrence, but it wouldn't be enough to keep him on the bench.
Stephania(bella), Torain healthy? Read his knee was wrapped earlier in the week. Also what do you expect from J. Best after his bye week? Grazie
Santino: Another one who was not on the injury report at all this week - so there's no reason to be overly concerned. Best was making progress over last two weeks despite the toe. Have to presume the bye can only help.
Stephi, Mike Vick good to go after the bye since he has picked up his workload?
Chris: Don't know that I'm that confident about that. First, not sure - esp if Kolb has a strong game - that Vick automatically gets the job back. Second, this injury takes a long time to heal -and practice is still not contact. They may opt to use him situationally at first to see how he responds, but I would not count on him automatically.
Have you heard if Gates practiced today or is it too early to know?
Erin: Heard that he did not practice today (nor did Naanee). But as far as Gates, he still could play. He knows the offense well, has played through injury before (even when has not practiced) and they need him. He may not be his most effective, but have to think he'll be out there.
Chris Cooley has practiced 3 straight days but the Redskins will still list him as questionable. Should I be worried about playing him a week after a concussion?
Reid: In this case, q still warranted b/c there's always the risk that some symptoms recur which cause him to be a scratch. That said, the fact that he has been able to go several days in a row and not have any setback so far bode well for his availability. They would not clear him to play unless he passed all necessary tests so no reason for fantasy owner to be more concerned about him.
What about Vince Young's knee? Is he going to start?
Joe: Not looking that way. Still not practicing Friday and Collins has been back at practice (he hurt his finger Mon night) since Thursday. Young not ruled out yet but doesn't look like he plays.
I'm reading different reports on the length of Collie's injury all over the place. Can you give me your honest opinion on when you think he will be back? Should I drop him and move on?
Jason: COnsidering that no one knows what the actual injury is (or at least it hasn't been reported anywhere), then it's virtually impossible, other than by speculating, to determine how long he'll be out. The Colts have said "several" weeks- and that's it. I'm not prone to speculating when we have no idea about the injury. I own him in a league and am not dropping him yet.
Any news on Harvin's new hammyissue?
Jamie: Back in Fri practice, listed as probable, so expect him to go.
Stephi, how about Scaife? Is he back to practice? Don't you think his value goes up with Collins under center?
Chris: I would - but he didn't practice Firday and was expected to. So now I'm not feeling so good about his chances for playing.
How confident can I be starting Ivory in my rough RB bye week? Is Thomas practicing/cutting yet, and would the Saints throw him in ahead of Ivory without practice if he says he's good to go Sunday?
Kevin: P Thomas and R Bush OUT this week - so no need to worry that he'll jump in the game. See,s as if Ivory will be the go-to guy.
What's the story with Addai's shoulder? Down for the count?
Thomas: Only have Addai's info to go by...not sure how helpful it is. Calling it a nerve problem saying his shoulder feels "dead." His own prognosis - could be better within hour to four or five weeks. The issue with "nerve" (and his description makes it sound like some sort of stinger) is that you just have to wait and see how it recovers. He's right in that the timetable is unpredictable - and we won't hear anymore while he's on bye - but maybe when they get back into practice reports early next week.
Ms. Bell: Do the Jags have a healthy QB for this week? Garrard has to be considered out and I thought Edwards hurt his thumb last week.
J.B. Garrard is officially out but will be GTD as to who starts. Edwards hurt his thumb and will be listed as Q but Bouman took all the first team reps in practice.
With your opinion open on Addai, do you think it is premature to add Donald Brown and his hammy right now before people sniff out his value?
Diego: Nope. I would go get Brown who is available in a lot of leagues b/c he has had a hamstring injury of his own. He was doing some light work last week so I have to believe his chances of improvement after the bye are decent.
Hi Stephania, I hope you'll answer my question, even though I'm a big Phillies fan! Todd Heap & Dez Bryant...do you think they play Sunday?
Adam: I will. No grudges. Just hope my team beats yours to get into the Series...Heap was held out Wednesday, limited work Thursday, and I suspect he plays. Bryant rested Thursday but team insists that's because they play Monday night so he got an extra day. I expect he plays - but he hasn't been rock star like this year.
If he plays, start Gates or the good Zach Miller? Go Phils, beat Sanchez!!
Brian: Wow, two Phillies fans in a row. This is a tough one - b/c almost automatically I would say if you've got those two choices, then go with Miller since he's such a star receiving target in Oakland. And then I think about Kyle Boller starting - which may happen (GTD). And that makes me want to go to Gates, I guess. I'm a little waffly on that one - but those are the things you need to consider.
Any word on Driver today? He usually plays, but it's a late game so I'm a little worried.
Daniel: He was back in practice today and is planning on playing. Now the game is Sunday night, and I still don't think he's 100% but I'm still guessing he suits up.
Hi Stephania, What do you know about James Starks of the Packers? I stashed him in my deep league and am hoping he gets a shot at some point.
Dee: Well, he's off the PUP list but still only doing some drills, not in full practice with team. I think he has a chance to contribute at some point but not in the immediate future.
Any physiological reason why a west coast team would play at a lower level if they have to travel to a east coast for a 1:00 ET game?
Derek: Seems like it doesn't it, given their losing rate in these matchups? But other than losing a couple hours of sleep, nothing really...
Lotta East Coast questions, come on show some West Coast bias already!!! You said Gates didn't practice but may still play, but you didn't really discuss the injury. Would you please do so?
Mike: Don't be angry. You're west coast! He has a toe sprain on his left foot, apparently far less serious than when he had to have surgery on the left foot. So it may bother him when trying to cut, push off, may even put him a little off balance, but we also have seen him play and play hard when injured - and in worse shape than this. So I do expect him to play, even if not at his best.
Do most NFL team require their players to get a flu shot?
Hmmm Rick, I do not know that. But that is an interesting question and I think I will try to find out. Not sure they can enforce everyone getting one - but I would guess they'd make it available. Will try to find out.
With Floyd injured, what value do you see in Buster Davis, who apparantly is hurt (if not injured) himself?
Diego: I think he has some value, I mean he'll likely be out there (he returned to practice Friday), but I think it's less than what Gates or Crayton is worth.
How cautious should we be if a guy is coming off of injury or questionable to start? Last week a few analysts were (justifiably) skeptical about Megatron last week but he had a good game. But there other instances where a guy is an iffy start and he doesn't play well. How should we typically handle that?
Joe: It's a tough call - and we deal with it every week. We give you our analysis based on the information we have, but there's always the chance a guy who's hurt has huge production anyway (like C Johnson last week) or a guy who seems fine performs poorly, or gets re-injured and leaves early. I take a look at my entire roster and try to minimize the risk and play best available. Sometimes it works, but it will never be perfect.
What's the deal with Britt?
Steve: excused from practice today after reports surfaced of him being in a bar fight. Not sure whether he will be deactivated from Sunday's game. Coach FIsher says he's waiting on more information. If he's on your fantasy team you'd better be sure you have an alternate b/c it sounds like there's a decent chance he's sitting.
Will Rice and Mendenhall be at full strength on Sun.
Jeff: Expect them to be. Mendenhall not on injury report at all.
Is Breaston going to play this week? If so, how effective will he be?
Tony: SOunds like the plan is for Breaston and Doucet to play. Both coming off of surgery. Both in limited practice W, Th. DOn't know yet about Fri practice. Kent Somers just tweeted that he expects Breaston and Doucet to play. Hard to know howmuch time either one sees as they're coming back from surgery.
So is Gage worth a play of britt is deactivated?
Tb: Interesting q. Gage did practice fully all week (has been out with a hamstring) but they didn't want to rush him back. Of course that might change if Britt is out.
Has there been news about Keller's wrist? Wasn't he supposed to have an MRI?
Chris: He was. But it's bye week so we haven't heard much. May not hear more until next week.
Ryan Mathews good to go?
Travis: Yes, he's playing - but Tolbert still figures to be in the mix.
OK everyone - time for me to go...Thanks for all the great questions. Hope to have some info on S Rice by next week. Good luck in Week 7!!
