Chat with Richard Durrett

Richard Durrett
  (11:01 AM)

Hello, everyone. Let's talk a little Rangers before they have a workout today in preparation for Game 6 tomorrow.

Chioke Hassan (Baltimore,Md)

Dear RichardWhat is the Ballpark at Arlington doing about Security after a fan ran onto the field at Yankees Stadium?

Richard Durrett
  (11:02 AM)

We'll check on that today, but they have good security here and I'm sure it's heightened with it being the playoffs and consistently full stadiums.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Since you cover the Rangers at Arlington,Texas do you ever go to the Dallas Cowboys Games at Cowboys Stadium?

Richard Durrett
  (11:03 AM)

I do. Jerry spared no expense on that stadium and it shows. It's a tremendous place. I like Rangers Ballpark in Arlington too and the new ownership is working on making it even better. There's no doubt a videoboard is needed out here and they are going to get that done. It may not be until 2012, but they'll get it done.

Ted (Ft. Worth)

If the Rangers advance to the WS, why shouldn't Washington start Holland instead of Hunter?

Richard Durrett
  (11:04 AM)

He should. To me, Derek Holland has earned the starting spot in the World Series with how he's pitched in this postseason. I like Tommy Hunter and when he's on, he's very good. But he's been struggling recently and Holland appears to have some confidence. I'd start him.

Jason (NJ)

Colby Lewis has not gone 6 innings yet in the postseason. I assume Derek Holland is going to be a major factor again Friday night you would think?

Richard Durrett
  (11:04 AM)

He might be. Lewis nearly went six in Game 2 and should be pitching with some confidence because of that outing. But all hands will be on deck for the Rangers (and Yankees, for that matter). So if Holland is needed, he'll be ready.

KC Aggie (KC)

Update on Nelson. Thanks.

Richard Durrett
  (11:05 AM)

He said last night that he was fine and would play in Game 6, calling his removal precautionary. The Rangers work out this afternoon and we should get a better idea of how he feels then. But I would expect him to play.

Bill (Lubbock)

Didnt Elvis break Jeters record for post season hitting streak yesterday?

Richard Durrett
  (11:09 AM)

He did. He has now hit in 10 straight games. Look for a story on Elvis on ESPN.com later today or early tomorrow. But he's had a tremendous postseason.

Daniel Lutz (philly)

what was up with cj last night? its not like him to have such a lack of control, nerves? maybe?

Richard Durrett
  (11:10 AM)

I'm not sure I buy it was completely nerves, though some of those had to be there in a potential clinching game at Yankee Stadium. He just didn't have his usual control. It happens. The Yankees are a patient team and if you don't have your command, they can make life difficult. That's what happened.

Ed (Dallas)

World Series Roster: Cantu or Davis?

Richard Durrett
  (11:15 AM)

I would think that's still Jorge Cantu. He does give the club a veteran presence and a right-handed bat off the bench. And the team is confident in his defense. So I think they'll leave things the same and keep Cantu.

KC (Dallas)

The Rangers have a confidence about them and they seem to not panic. It has been that way all year long. I like our chances to finish the Yankees off on Friday.

Richard Durrett
  (11:16 AM)

The pressure is still squarely on the Yankees. They're facing yet another elimination game on Friday. The Rangers would certainly prefer to get this done before Game 7, but they do have Cliff Lee in reserve.

Jason (NJ)

What is the Maximum amount of outs you see Ron Washington allowing Feliz to get? I ask in the event that fans are wondering if Feliz will be brought into a game in the 8th inning.

Richard Durrett
  (11:17 AM)

I think it's 4. If he needs Feliz to get a batter with two outs in the eighth, you'd see him. But I can't think it would be more than that. He hasn't pitched 2 innings this season and Washington isn't comfortable asking him to do something he hasn't done.

Mike (Kansas City)

Be honest! Do you think Lewis will get it done or does it look like it's going to a Game 7?

Richard Durrett
  (11:18 AM)

Ask me in the third inning. I say that because, like so many games for the Rangers this series, you can tell the outcome by how they play in those first few innings. But my gut tells me Lewis gets this done Friday.

Richard Durrett
  (11:18 AM)

But my gut is not one to bet on. :)

Jake (ST PAUL)

Sup Richard? I went to visit my sister in Austin this year and drove down to see a Rangers game and tour the Cowboys stadium. I loved the Rangers ballpark and the people were all so nice. Being a life long Cowboys fan I loved touring the new stadium. It is unbelieveable.

Richard Durrett
  (11:18 AM)

Thanks, Jake. Arlington is fortunate to have two nice stadiums.

victor (monroe,la)

how come we have to play a game6 on friday night?because my grand daughter,s birthday party is on saturday and if there;s a game 7 on saturday i might record it.

Richard Durrett
  (11:19 AM)

The clubs get a travel day today, Victor. So that means Game 6 on Friday and then Game 7, if necessary, on Saturday. The World Series starts at the NL champion on Wednesday.

Brent (Anxiety)

Longtime Rangers fans have been waiting for a chance like this, please tell me we will win one of the next two games. What are your thoughts on the rest of the series?

Richard Durrett
  (11:20 AM)

I think the Rangers will get it done like they have all season. They don't panic. They don't lose confidence. And the odds are in their favor now after taking 2 of 3 in New York.

Daniel Lutz (philly)

how do we stop robbie cano?!

Richard Durrett
  (11:21 AM)

I'm not sure the Rangers do. There's a reason Cano was an MVP candidate. He's a good hitter and good hitters find a way. See Josh Hamilton. The key is limiting how many times he comes up with men on base. You have to pick and choose when to pitch around him and when to go right after him. But he's dangerous, no doubt.

David (OKC)

Aren't you still encouraged by the loss. We outhit the yanks, but their hits were more timely and their pitching not quite as erratic. Plus, who the Rangers match up better in the NLCS?

Richard Durrett
  (11:23 AM)

The Yankees were still 2-for-11 with RISP in that game and the Rangers did collect some hits. But it's about cashing in and Texas didn't do that. As for the NL champion, tough to say. I'd like to see a Giants-Rangers World Series, just because I think it would be extremely close and fun. But the same could be said for the Phillies. Giants are certainly in the driver's seat right now, but we'll see. And the Rangers haven't clinched anything yet, either.

Bill (Lubbock)

Wouldn't Wash be better off startimg Murphy in every game? He has hit lefties as well as Francouer

Richard Durrett
  (11:24 AM)

They got Francoeur to hit against lefties and he was very good against them down the stretch. He hasn't had that same success in the postseason. But Washington has a plan and rarely deviates from it. But you're right: Murphy can hit lefties.

John (Nashville)

Who is throwing out the First pitch tonight? and i hope Tom Grieve gets to throw one out

Richard Durrett
  (11:26 AM)

I'm not sure. We'll put that on the blog as soon as we know something on that.

Jared (Sugarland)

When the Rangers advance...is Franky available or is he done for the playoffs?

Richard Durrett
  (11:27 AM)

If the Rangers advance, they get a chance to reset their roster again, just like they did for the ALCS. Francisco is still slowly progressing. My bet would be no, but he's a guy we'll check on later today.

Richard Durrett
  (11:28 AM)

Thanks, everyone. Be sure to check out the blogs at ESPNDallas.com and ESPNNewYork.com for all the latest on the ALCS. And we'll have a live in-game chat tomorrow night as usual.
