Welcome all to the Bulls chat room. Nick just called and said he'll be a few minutes late. But he will stay a little later to get to as many questions as possible. He expects to be on at 12:10. Thanks.
What's happening, everybody? I'm coming at you live from the Berto Center. Let's get this chat rolling ...
Will the Bulls be able to play .500 ball without Carlos Boozer?
Doubtful. Unless Deng steps up on the offensive end the Bulls don't have another consistent option besides Rose. They are going to struggle badly on the circus trip, but they must beat teams like the Pistons if they want to keep their heads above water during the first month.
How alarmed should we be with the early play of Ronnie Brewer? Is this just a case of someone needing to get back into basketball shape and shedding the rust, or is Brewer not going to contribute how management had hoped?
Carl, are you my cousin? Anyway, I think Brewer is still trying to work his way back to 100% health. Having said that, I think management is still trying to figure out exactly what they are going to get from Brewer. We knew he couldn't hit the three-pointer, but he hasn't been hitting his jumpers, either.
Hey Nick! This looks like the same Bulls team as last year. The defense looked the same, they faded away in the 4th quarter, am I going to be disappointed in the Bulls this year, I'm expecting them to be competetive every game
George, I think they will be competitive every game. Let's not forget, the Thunder are really good. Really good. Like I've said, I think the Bulls are going to win 50 games. They are going to be much better once Boozer comes back and they start to learn more about one another.
Hey Nick, are the bulls' chances of landing Melo bigger now that he's said that he wants to leave and if so, will Denver accept a deal thats not Noah and with Deng?
There is no way the Bulls can make a deal without giving up Deng's contract in the process. Denver doesn't want that deal -- that's the Bulls biggest problem, in terms of landing Melo.
The Bulls, I feel, are a 2-guard away from being title contenders. Is there any way they can pry Gordon away from the Clippers?
Why would the Clippers trade him? Plus, VDN would never let that happen.
Nick, What up. Minus some forced bad shots the other night, (there was a lot of standing around) D Rose looked Ridiculous. Can we expect him to dominate like that night in and night out?
I think Rose is going to have a monster year. He is more confident is his game than he's ever been. He admitted that he took some bad shots (which he absolutely did), but some of those shots came because the offense being run poorly late. I think his improved defense is going to be the biggest reason why he will make another jump this year.
Am I the only one who thinks Rose lacks the necessary basketball IQ and floor vision to be a great PG? I think he's more Iverson than Paul or Williams
Bill, I disagree. I still think Rose knows that if he wants to be truly great he has to make his teammates around him better. People forget that he just turned 22. He is still learning what it takes to be a top player in the league. Over time, I think he'll figure it out.
Why would Scalabrine see the floor before JJ?
Because Thibs has a lot more confidence in Scal. He has been with him for years. I think the coaching staff is still trying to figure out whether Johnson will be able to contribute this season or not.
Since the Thunder game ended, it seems that most Bulls fans are panicking. Yes, the fourth quarter was ugly but the Bulls lost because of failed execution, not lack of talent. The Bulls were right there with the Thunder, and new "Air Apparent Kevin Durant," until about 4 minutes left. At the moment, they may not have a high quality NBA shooting guard, but, once Boozer gets back, they should have a solid 1-2 punch with him and Rose. My question to you is, besides Luol Deng, can anyone step up and be that third option that is key to being a contending team?
From an offensive perspective, I think that person is Kyle Korver. He has the ability to get hot in stretches and it's clear that Rose likes playing with him. I'd look for him to get a few more minutes in the next week or two.
CJ Watson has shown some good ability to shoot the ball. Could he develop into a good 2-guard?
He could, but that's not what the Bulls need. They need Watson to be a backup point guard and a solid option behind Rose. He can definitely score, but he's got to cut down on the turnovers.
How do you feel about Derrick Rose taking 31 shots the other night and when will Rose start getting those foul calls when he is driving to the basket.
Any time Rose takes 31 shots in the game the Bulls are almost certainly going to lose. As for the fouls, I think he'll start to get those calls more in the next couple of years -- he should go back and watch the tape of how Durant and Westbrook picked up all those calls on Wednesday night.
Why are people saying that Deng is only slightly worse than Melo (even though I know a trade wouldn't be straight up for the two of them), when Deng gets injured, and can't score when the team needs him too? He does wonderful in preseason or the first quarter of games, but disappears the rest of the time.
Who said Deng "is only slightly worse" than Melo. Melo is in a different category than Deng -- but like I've said, I still think Deng has a chance to have a big year if he can keep himself on the floor. Make no mistake though, Melo is a better player.
Any chance of Boozer coming back sooner? The bulls did not look very sharp against OKC.
I actually thought the Bulls played pretty well throughout most of the game on Wednesday. The fourth quarter was bad, but they looked OK other than that key stretch. As for Boozer, my guess has been that he comes back the first week of December for the game at home against the Magic.
why doesnt brewer start?
Because Thibs is more comfortable with Bogans and Bogans can hit open three-pointers.
How loud was it in OKC? Is it the loudest stadium?
Real loud. I think it's the loudest arena in the NBA.
I thought Taj Gibson played well filling in for Boozer, do you think Gibson has a low ceiling or do we have a star in the making?
Taj has a chance to be a double double machine down the line. I think he will be a solid NBA player for the next 10-12 years. A star? Probably not, but he's going to be a very good player if he stays healthy.
Do the bulls really need a closer ala Lebron, Dwayne Wade? Or do they have one already in the ongoing development of Derrick Rose?
Rose is going to be a closer, but they need to have another star playing alongside him to give him help when he needs it.
Do you think Joakim Noah is a younger version of Tyson Chandler?
No, I think Noah is going to be much better than Chandler.
Nick, what are you going to dress as for Halloween?
Weren't you just listening to Waddle and Silvy on ESPN 1000? HA. I'm going as Where's Waldo -- I hear that costume is always popular with the ladies.
once boozer gets back, do you see the bulls becoming a top 10 NBA team? will they have a legitimate shot to win a title?
The Bulls are going to win a lot of games with Boozer this year, but they do not have a legitimate chance to win a title this season.
Are there any legs to the reported talks between the bulls and the sixers involving Iguodala & Luol Deng?
Nick did you play basketball growing up?
Yes sir. I even had a nickname -- "Nick the Pick"
I noticed that Thibs was giving Rose a lot off rest in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I was kind of worried with Rose getting back in the groove after a hot 1st. Can you explain Thibs' strategy with Rose and his minutes?
Buster, don't you have more important things going on -- like traveling to Dallas for Game 3? Anyway, Thibs had to sit Rose because Rose was in serious foul trouble. I thought he may have sat him a couple minutes too long, but he couldn't risk having him pick up his fifth foul with that much time left.
hey nick, I heard a rumor on a trade that can happen for the bulls, with the 76's. Deng for Igudala??? have you heard anyhting on this?
I haven't. Doesn't mean it can't happen, but even if the Bulls got AI, how does it make them that much better? Igoudala is a great player, but he's isn't the type of player that will push the Bulls over the top. The problem is, neither will Deng. The Bulls are stuck.
hey nick, do you travel with team on the plane? if so, what is the team chemistry like off the court?
I do not, but I think the players genuinely like each other. They are always hanging out with one another off the court. Over time, that chemistry is only going to help them down the line.
Nick, considering the fact that Boozer is in the next stage of his career (in terms of age) compared to the rest of the Bulls young nucleus and that Taj Gibson could one day average Boozer type numbers, do you think the Boozer signing was worth it for the Bulls short and long term success?
Boozer is going to be a great fit for the Bulls, and I think he is actually a better fit than Chris Bosh would have been. He's going to help the Bulls win a lot in the next few years, but in about three years, the contract is going to look terrible.
Not Bulls related and I'm already sick of the Heat too, but how pathetic is it that tickets are still available for Miami's home opener tonight??
Very pathetic. But that's why it was laughable when LeBron said that they were "going to bring the Heat back." Nobody really cares about the Heat in Miami. It's a Dolphins town and it always will be.
who do you think will be no.1 collage football
Alabama. Sorry, Isaac.
Do you think Amare Stoudamire would have been a good fit for the bulls? Athletic runs the floor well his style seems to fit that of Derrick Rose very well was there a reason the bulls passed on him besides the fact he had microfracture surgery?
He would be a good fit, but there is no way in the world I would have given him that much money and that many guaranteed years.
Nick,Why doesn't Thibs see that Korver should be starting? He is a great spot-up 3rd option guy, not a ball-handling 1st option bench scorer.
Because Thibs loves defense and Korver isn't close to being the best defensive option.
Do you think D-roses 3 pt shot really has improved? If so, how much will that help the Bulls this season?
I think it has because he has been working on it all summer, but until he starts hitting it in games and gaining the confidence that comes with that, I don't know how much all the work will pay off.
Do you think Jay Cutler is Jeff George 2.0?
How do you feel about Patrick Beverly possibly joining the team?
I think Beverley would be a nice fit. The Bulls are going to add somebody, it might as well be him. He's from Chicago and still has room to grow.
All right everybody, I am out of here. I will talk to you guys next week from Boston.
