Chat with Eric Karabell

Eric Karabell
  (3:02 PM)

Hello all and welcome to the latest fantasy sports chat session ... I'm Eric, and we've got an hour to answer questions, so let's get to it! Thanks for being here....

Matt (Huntington, NY)

Need 2 pts tonight in a PPR league. Who is the safer play, Brown or Hart?

Eric Karabell
  (3:02 PM)

Donald Brown is listed as probable for tonight, and while I do have some reservations about him statistically, if he's going to play, he's the safer bet. And I think he will play.

Mike (Lock Haven)

Do you think we need to reevaluate whether Randy Moss is a WR1 the rest of the way? For weeks, he has been towards the top and the numbers just aren't there. I am seriously considering starting Mike Williams (SEA) or Johnny Knox (CHI)over him next week as my WR3. Can I please have your take?

Eric Karabell
  (3:04 PM)

I'm blogging today about that exact topic. I'd say it depends on matchups, but clearly the Moss playing for the Vikings right now is not playing well, doesn't look motivated or interested, nuthin. And you can't blame Favre for Moss' one reception Sunday. Favre played well. Moss did not. In general I'd call it premature to use Williams or Knox over him, but now it depends.

Ken (Nashville)

EK, I'm up by 23 and I've got D.Ward to go tonight versus A.Foster on the other guy's team. Should I roll with Ward tonight or grab Hart off waivers and play him?

Eric Karabell
  (3:05 PM)

Ward has been scoring every week behind Foster so I would just go with him. I don't really want to rely on an Indy back if I can avoid it.

Greg (KC)

Has Wes Welker become basically unplayable in non-PPR leagues?

Eric Karabell
  (3:06 PM)

I wouldn't say that yet. It's not like he's delivering goose eggs...

Shane (SC)

Time to drop Shonne Greene or do I continue to wait for LT to get hurt?

Eric Karabell
  (3:09 PM)

I would try to avoid cutting Greene is possible. It's not only about Tomlinson's health, because eventually I think both Jets RBs can be good enough to play, kind of like the Chiefs and maybe Raiders RBs.

Jeff (Florida)

so who picks up Moss? is he worth keeping now tht he isn't with the Vikings

Eric Karabell
  (3:09 PM)

Beats me. Randy Moss has been waived by the Vikings, and I am sure some team will go and get him ... but I wouldn't expect much statistically. Moss acted like he didn't want to be with the Vikings. Maybe he won't want to play with anyone. But if you own him, don't cut him yet.

Ron (Columbus, OH)

Eric, you seem to always rank Hernandez high and I am getting frustrated with his lack of td's. Is it worth starting Marcedes Lewis over him going forward?

Eric Karabell
  (3:10 PM)

I do rank Hernandez well, but I don't think I have been ranking him ahead of Lewis... that guy scores touchdowns. I think Hernandez is a borderline top 10 TE...

Patrick (Rochester, NY)

Could Jerry Jones try to pick up Moss, since the Cowboys are probably quite high on the waiver wire priority list? The only team ahead of them is the Bills, right?

Eric Karabell
  (3:12 PM)

The Cowboys already have 3 productive wide receivers... I'd be stunned if they go after Moss. They are, after all, 1-6. I honestly don't know which team would sign Moss... personally I don't think it's worth the headache,as Belichick clearly showed in dumping him. Nice going, Vikings. Nice use of a draft pick.

JP (knoxville)

How do you think Harvin does now?

Eric Karabell
  (3:14 PM)

I don't think it changes very much with the Vikings. It's not like Moss was putting up big numbers in the first place. Favre had a solid game Sunday even with Moss getting only one catch and two targets. The interception was not Favre's fault. I think Harvin is not a top 20 WR, but close. Can't imagine Berrian is worth adding.

dave (home)

what about the colts? imagine him and manning

Eric Karabell
  (3:15 PM)

Now that is interesting. But I can't imagine that well-run team wants to deal with the baggage.

Will (WV)

Thoughts on Blount from here on out?

Eric Karabell
  (3:16 PM)

Seems legit to me. I'm not calling him a top 10 RB yet, but borderline top 20. Note he's not a pass catcher and this is not a great offensive team.

Jason (NY)

Eric, you clearly have something against Moss. When the guy complained about Wes Welker, you didn't even acknowledge that his production has dipped because Moss took so much pressure off him. Be neutral in your views!!!!

Eric Karabell
  (3:17 PM)

Really? You enjoyed his ONE reception yesterday? Welker's production has dipped... I don't think it's a big surprise.

Mike (NJ)

If Matt Ryan is your fantasy QB, are you trying to upgrade or holding tight?

Eric Karabell
  (3:18 PM)

I'd probably try to upgrade, but Ryan has played ably and I guess one could do worse. But he doesn't feel like a top-10 QB to me.

Josh (Michigan)

Does the Moss release indicate that Sidney Rice is close to returning?

Eric Karabell
  (3:19 PM)

I wouldn't read into any of this, people. Moss criticized EVERYONE after the game yesterday. I understand why the Vikings did this. It's not like he was productive. Rice is weeks away, at best.

M. Lynch (Seattle)

I did real bad...

Eric Karabell
  (3:20 PM)

Sure did. Nice game by the Seahawks Sunday. Hard to believe the Raiders have outscored the opposition 92-17 the past TWO weeks. I wouldn't do anything with Lynch now. Still a borderline top 20 RB the rest of the way.

Scott (Missouri)

As a Williams/Stewart owner what am I to do? Are there going to be any holes for them this year or am I rolling with Brandon Jackson?

Eric Karabell
  (3:21 PM)

I've had just about enough of the Panthers offense... I'd keep Smith and DeAngelo owned, but I'd only use Smith now. I can't believe I'll rank a Panthers RB in my top 20 anytime soon.

matt (madison)

You don't think it changes Harvin's value? Moss just being on the field forced the safeties to roll his way, freeing up the rest of the field (just like in NE with Welker). Harvin's production with Moss on the field has been great the past four weeks (21. 9. 16. 12. pts respectively)...

Eric Karabell
  (3:22 PM)

Yes, obviously this does not help Harvin... but if you own Harvin, are you going to drop the guy? I'm not sure what everyone wants here. Harvin is owned in every league. He's played better with Moss, becaues defenses pay more attention to him. But if that's all Moss is now, a nice decoy, then on his new team I wouldn't assume it continues.

Kevin (Enough Moss Questions..)

Thoughts on Torain going forward?

Eric Karabell
  (3:24 PM)

I think it's enough Moss questions too... but clearly that's all being asked in here! I gotta answer something! Torain hurt a hamstring, he could miss some time. Too early to know. I'd add Keiland Williams, and this again makes Portis relevant.

Tyler (VT)

BASEBALL KEEPER!?! EK, what are your feelings about trading keepers for picks? I have some keeper worther players that I will not be able to keep, such as Matt Cain, and could get a 7th round pick for him. (5 keepers) My last keeper is up in the air between Youk and Heyward. Keep the youth of go for the sure production?

Eric Karabell
  (3:25 PM)

If you can't keep a player, get whatever picks you can. Makes sense. As for Youk vs. Heyward, I'd go Heyward there. He's younger, huge upside. Youkilis is very valuable though, so deal him off.

Joel (Mi)

Eric, Does Sidney Rice merit a roster spot with or without Randy and Bret ?

Eric Karabell
  (3:26 PM)

I think Rice merited a roster spot regardless. And since people are misinterpreting my Harvin comments: I do not think Harvin is helped by Moss leaving, but I also do not think he falls off a cliff the way Welker has. But we don't all have to agree here...

John (Virginia)

Would you drop Stafford to pick up Vick?

Eric Karabell
  (3:27 PM)

Yes, but I would also try to keep Stafford around. He's not so bad, and Vick does seem like an injury risk now.

Jay (Boston)

Is Cutler worth starting this week vs. Buf?

Eric Karabell
  (3:27 PM)

Depends on who else you got. Cutler will not be in my top 10. Definitely not. I think Matt Forte might be close, though...

Kelly (PA)

Was Larry Fitzgeralds game yesterday a sign of things to come?

Eric Karabell
  (3:29 PM)

I can't say that, but it was nice to see him finally do something. That was just a wide-open game... let's not assume the Cardinals keep playing in those types.

Mike (Indy)

Thoughts on the McNabb benching yesterday?

Eric Karabell
  (3:31 PM)

Meaningless. Just Shanahan making some kind of point. McNabb will start the next game, and continue his uninspiring play.

Anthony (Cleveland, OH)

Fitzpatrick didn't put up 20+ again but he had a solid 14 yesterday. Could he be top 12 the rest of the way? Where would you rank him?

Eric Karabell
  (3:32 PM)

Outside the top 10, but probably in the 13-15 range. Disappointing game in KC yesterday... Cassel actually looked worse than Fitz. Hope nobody relied on him.

Bob (NY)

Jamaal Charles finishes the season as the #__ RB overall?

Eric Karabell
  (3:33 PM)

Wouldn't shock me if he ends up in the top 7 or 8. Gonna have a monster second half.

Mark (New Jersey)

Is Donald Driver flat out droppable in a 12 team league?

Eric Karabell
  (3:33 PM)

I'd try to avoid it if you could. After the bye he should be healthy, but we'll see. This is still a clear passing offense with a top QB.

Jim (Atlanta)

Pick 1 please, Eli or Stafford?

Eric Karabell
  (3:34 PM)

Definitely Eli. I do like Stafford, and Calvin Johnson is just awesome, but so it Hakeem Nicks. Eli is a top 10 guy... Stafford is close.

Big Ben (Pitt)

Was that a one week showing or am I no longer top 10?

Eric Karabell
  (3:36 PM)

You're gonna give up on Big Ben after one bad game? He's still my No. 7 or 8 guy.

Kellin (GiantsEuphoria)

how ironic if Moss ends up claimed on waivers by.....SAN DIEGO? Seriously, with zero healthy receivers possible???

Eric Karabell
  (3:36 PM)

Someone would have to pay him $3.4 million the rest of the season... I doubt he finds a new home this week.

Patrick (Los Angeles)

one little question -- will BGJE finally gain respect enough to get into the top ten?

Eric Karabell
  (3:37 PM)

Top 10? No, I don't think he's that good. Terrific game Sunday, but not top 10.

Dawn (Maine)

I have to cut one player between V Jax and S.Rice. Which do I release?

Eric Karabell
  (3:38 PM)

I would cut Rice. I think Jackson will play sooner... but still not for another month.

Rob (Minneapolis)

Your thoughts on DMC for the rest of the year?

Eric Karabell
  (3:39 PM)

Top 10 running back... I could see 1,300 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns. He's dynamic.

d (indiana)

nyg def or philly def for playoff schedule??? wks 14-16.

Eric Karabell
  (3:40 PM)

Giants. Look at Philly's defense against decent teams. Yuck. And really, while the Eagles have the Cowboys twice down the stretch, Cowboys can move the ball.

Erich (Houston)

Higher upside: Crayton or S. Rice?

Eric Karabell
  (3:42 PM)

I just don't think Rice is going to be playing anytime soon, especially since the Vikings are what, 2-5? And I don't think Crayton is very good.. but at least he should play the next month.

Jon (Atlanta)

Thoughts on DMC: he gets hurt, again.

Eric Karabell
  (3:42 PM)

Thanks for being positive!

Erik (VT)

trade LT for MJD?

Eric Karabell
  (3:45 PM)

Seriously? Yeah, in a second. Jones-Drew played great Sunday. Not sure why everyone complains about him... oh yeah, now I know. Everyone complains about their fantasy football teams all the time!

Kevin (LA)

Basketball question!! In a 12 team H2H league (no bench), would you drop Rashard Lewis for Augustine or R. Lopez? Just want the best player for the season, position doesn't matter.

Eric Karabell
  (3:45 PM)

I'd keep Lewis. Yeah, he had what, an 0-for-9 game... he could also hit 175 threes in his sleep.

Craig Stuart (Victoria, BC)

is kevin smith a good pick up this week?

Eric Karabell
  (3:47 PM)

No question he looked healthy and obviously Jahvid Best isn't much of a stud anymore... but I don't think Smith is such a great pickup.

Big Mike (Denver)

Why can't people see that you don't like S. Rice for this year? Seriously. Anyhow, would you take Wells or Greene in a 0.5 PPR trade? Thanks!

Eric Karabell
  (3:49 PM)

It's not that I don't like him... just that health reasons will likely prevent him from playing by Thanksgiving. I don't think the Moss release had any relevance to Rice. I'd take Wells right now over Greene. Wells had a nice first half Sunday.. .and then he didn't really get chances.

Troy (Dallas)

Ray Rice regain his top 5 RB status from last year? Would you trade him straight up for McFadden?

Eric Karabell
  (3:51 PM)

You know what, I would still rather have Rice than DMC, but it's close. If I felt good about McFadden staying healthy, I might not say that...

Mark (New Jersey)

Is Garrard worth grabbing off of waivers or was this game a fluke? My QB is Henne, sine Romo went down.

Eric Karabell
  (3:52 PM)

Even though Garrard's next game is a great matchup, let's remember who we're talking about. Don't get too excited. Stick with Henne.

Chris (NY)

Benson is a top _____ RB rest of the year.

Eric Karabell
  (3:54 PM)

Let's say top 17 RB... I know that seems odd... but he's not top 10, that's for sure. But I'll say still top 20 for now.

Sides (SC)

FJax is a top _____RB rest of yr.

Eric Karabell
  (3:55 PM)

Let's say top 25. Can't really go better than that yet.

Joel (Mi)

Jahvid Best......What to do with him ?

Eric Karabell
  (3:57 PM)

Can't cut him, because he still has nice value from the first two weeks of the season... and there's upside there. But it's tough to get too excited about him. He's better than Kevin Smith... but this is a nice passing offense now.

John (Houston)

_____ % chance Belichick brings back Randy Moss after that hug yesterday.

Eric Karabell
  (3:58 PM)

Less than 1 percent. They dumped him already, and they are 6-1... they don't want headaches. Belichick couldn't care less what the Moss trade did for Welker's stats... and the Vikings don't care about Harvin's stats...

John (NYC)

Bironas is the best kicker but is on a bye this week...can you make a case for keeping him?

Eric Karabell
  (3:58 PM)

No. Can't make any case at all.

Erich (Houston)

Who do you have in tonight's game?

Eric Karabell
  (3:59 PM)

Revenge is a dish best served on Monday nights... or something like that. Colts win big. Manning goes nuts.

Eric Karabell
  (4:00 PM)

OK, that's about all the time we've got. Time to start writing about Randy Moss being released! Woo-hoo! OK, seriously thanks for showing up and asking questions... more chats tomorrow, and I will be back on Wednesday... adios!
