Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Cody (South Dakota)

Do you think that the raiders will go better than 8-8 this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

They have a real shot. If they win Sunday, yes, I think they will. but the schedule does get tougher.

Keith (New Jersey)

do you believe the chiefs lost any momentum with their close win over buffalo?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

Lost momentum after a win on the final play of overtime?Quite the opposite. Sure, they should have waxed Buffalo, but anytime you survive a game like that, it gives you a big spark.

RedZone (KC)

Bill, do you think the Raiders D can stop the two headed Monster? Raiders Nation seems to think so, I don't!

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

Wait, Riaders fans think Oakland will stop the run and Chiefs fans think they won't? What a shock. This could be the key. Oakland has given up big runs and you know Charles and Jones will keep pounding the ball at them. This could be a quick game. Both teams are going to run.

Adam (Irvine)

Hey Bill, why is Phillip Rivers getting no respect from the media as a serious MVP candidate this season? He is definitely on pace to break Dan Marinos passing record this year with the amount of 300+ games he is having

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

It's the 3-5 record.

TB (PA)

Can the raiders win the super bowl this season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Two wins in a row fir the first tme in 24 games and you're talking Super Bowl. Really? Let's wait a while on that one.

Cody (Denver)

Bill! Love your blog... What is up with Tyson Jackson not starting for KC? Is he losing time to Shaun Smith because of health, or performance? Should we expect Jackson to be a cornerstone for KC in the future?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Thanks, bro, he played well in the opener but the got hurt. Then. he lost time because he apparently wasn't practicing had enough. He has to work his way back into good graces. Todd Haley doens't worry about draft status or pay checks. People play if he earn it.

Keith (New Jersey)

do you see any improvement with darrius heyward-bey? im not sure how to judge him, seeing as the 55 yard catch by bush was due to his inability to catch the ball on a slide

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

Heyward-Bey is a work in progress. Some good, some bad.

Keith (New Jersey)

how would you decide the QB 'controversy' in oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I like Gradkowski. But Campbell was bought in as the starter. He stuggled some but he seems to have gotten it together. If he has a big game in a win over KC. I think he should stay the starter.

Kendra Stephens (Yuba City)

Many of us waited with anticipation yesterday to see if the Raiders would take another run on Moss based on your speculation on your blog. It seems like you may have over-played it a bit? Real classy, BW, real classy. The letdown over NOT getting Moss was epic! Again, real classy.

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

I guess I shouldn't have reported that Tom Cable said it was a possibility.Take good care, JK and GF. Have a good life. Bye bye, now.

Bleeds Silver (Miami, FL)

Your take on Rolando Mclain and his progression ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

He's doing OK. Nothing specia yet. Scouts think he's a tad slow. But he has a chnce to get better.

Tim (San Diego)

Bill, Rivers is having an monster MVP type of year. He's not on the list because his team is losing? So, if special teams improve their play, then Rivers become more valuable?! That didn't seem to help him last year! Where would the Bolts be w/o him this year? The W-L criterion seems like an arbitrary excuse to prefer one player over another. Your thoughts?

Justin Nelson (Fargo, ND)

Afternoon Bill, Sounds like a good chance of rain this Sunday in Oakland. Does this play into either team more or is it basically a push since both team like to establish the run?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

On Rivers: I agree, but there is nothing arbitrary about wins and losses in sports. It's the bottom line. The special teams are huritng the team and Rivers. It's been brutal .... On rain: It's a push. There could be a whole lot of mudders out there.

Warin (Englewood, NJ)

If the Raiders beat the Chiefs this week, can they realistically win the division even with tilts against Indy, Pittsburgh and Miami looming?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

If they are good, they will compete in those games.

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

If they are good, they will compete in those games.

Zachariah (Durango, CO)

On Thomas Jones: His father was a mudder!

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

One of my favorite Seinfelds.

Al Davis (Oakland)

Bill - love the AFC West blog, thanks for all the coverage. Wanted to know what you think of the left side of the Raiders' line - Gallery and the rookie Veldheer...

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

Yeah, I'm sure you do Boss, I think Veldheeer is going a great job and Gallery is the anchor. Those two guys are the reason why this line has improved greatly.

Kevin Franz (Kansas city)

Do you think kansas city has a legitimate shot not only to make the playoffs, but to actually win in the playoffs? Some say that they cant beat a legitimate team, but what do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

If they get a home game in the playoffs, i think they a shot. But there will be some very good wild card teams in the AFC.

Steve (Kansas City)

Do you think the Chiefs will be subject to flexible scheduling this year and get a primetime game?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

How botut this: Oakland vs. Kansas City, Week 17, Jan. 2, for the AFC West title. How sweet would that be?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

How botut this: Oakland vs. Kansas City, Week 17, Jan. 2, for the AFC West title. How sweet would that be?

Caio (Brazil)

Bill, how do you like Can Thomas?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

I expected to see more of him this season based on the team's happiness with him in training camp.

Jimmie (San Diego)

Any thoughts on Ajirotutu? I'm a fan of his and to me looks like he has potential.

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

I noticed him in college and the fact that he was chosen to start in his second NFL game means he has a chance. He looked decent on Sunday.

Conrad (Parker, Colorado)

BW, can the Broncos bounce back to semi-respectability after the merciful bye week?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

They limped into the bye. They needs to get healthy on defense and learn to run the ball on offense to have a chance to be respectable down the stretch.

Vincent (Queens, NY)

Bill, if the Raiders out and out destroy the Chiefs, does it verify Oakland as a real playoff contender or is it a mediocre team beating an over-achieving team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

They'd be a half-game out in the division. That's a contender.

KimoG (Discovery Bay, CA)

With the last two games the raiders have been in control of both offense and defense. With total scores 92-17 in the raiders favor how does the KC even have a chance of competing with those type numbers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Because the Chiefs are better than the Broncos and Seahawks and because every week is different in the NFL.

andy Cihacek (lincoln nebraska)

what is the impact of dexter mccluster not playing on sundays for the chiefs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

He was missed against the Bills and if he doesn't play at Oakland, he'll be missed again. He's a triple threat and he gives K.C. big options.Having him out takes plays out of the playbook.

Matt Mac (Champaign, IL)

BW - It looks like Vrabel has lost a step or two. How long before Andy Studebaker gets more of a role with the Chiefs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

Vrabel played out of his mind last week. Studebaker gets his tiem as well.

Nmamdi (OakTown)

What's my status for Sunday and if i dont play can my comrades still hold down a "not so great" KC passing attack?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

I think it may be a game-time decision. If I had to guess, I'd say he doesn't play. Since this will likely be a ground game, it might be the time to rest him, especially since a bye looms the next week.

Shawn (Toronto)

Bill, you think Todd Haley's frequent 4th down gambles are a good idea in general?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

I think there is a time and place for it. I think Haley may need to restrain himself a little more in certain situations. There is nothing wrong with taking a sure 3 points now and then.

Bill (SF)

How bout those Giants Big Man!!! No comment on the World Series??

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

Speechless.

neil (clovis, ca)

Last week everybody seemed to overlook the fact that it was HALLOWEEN in the BLACK HOLE. Seattle had no chance against the Raiders given those circumstances, dont you think?? thanks Bill.

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

It's Halloween in the Black Hole every game, Neil.

Greg P (Staten Island,NY)

Bill, what will be Denver's biggest need for the 2011 draft?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

I'll list a few, because the needs a great:DT, ILB, OG, TE, RB.

Greg (Dallas)

"Bill, what will be Denver's biggest need for the 2011 draft?"A new coach

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Zing.

KimoG (Discovery Bay, CA)

I have two seats in the black hole this weekend.. Cant wait to watch this one.. Does the Nation sell out this weekend?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

It better sell out. 2-1 in a huge game? Sell the joint out, Bay Area.

Brad b (camp lejeune)

settle an arguement...Life Time Raiders fan, but do you think that The Lions would win the AFC west this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Nah.

Devon (Missouri)

After a Chiefs victory this week, can I go ahead and get my AFC WEST CHAMPS shirt made?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Ask Denver fans if they made up shirts at 6-0 and a with a 3.5 game lead last October?I'd wait untl it's over, Devon.

KimoG (Discovery Bay, CA)

KC has been going on Raider Threads all week talking mucho crap! With all do respect this game on paper is very close..Why do they feel the need to pounce their chest and feel they will destroy the raiders? Seems foolish

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

And Riaders fans aren't doing the same?

Benjamin (Boston)

Are the Chargers willingness to dump all those players that have been great players and great leaders in recent years such as Shawne Marriman, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Antonio Cromartie beginning to badly hurt them? Sure great players get injured and lose a step in their careers but you never, ever just replace HOF talent that easily.

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

I don't think those guys are the problem. I think they really miss special tems ace Kassim Osgood and hurt snapper David Binn. The problems are on special teams.

Rick (New Mexico)

Bill, how much is Pat Bowlen going to be paying Gruden to coach the Broncos next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

I don't think he'll choose to pay Shanahan, McDaniels and Gruden all in the same season.

Corey D. (Riverside, CA)

Do you think whoever wins the Chiefs-Raiders game will be the AFC West Champions? The window for a winning season for San Diego is closing fast. Your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

IF SD losses this week, yes. I still think Week 17 in K.C. may mean something.

Dan (Olathe, KS)

Is Josh McDaniels already on the hot seat?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

In the minds of Denver fans, but not in the minds of Denver's ownership.

Mike (Denver)

Do you see Tebow getting a shot by the end of the season to be the starting QB? I keep hearing about how Orton isnt the future, etc, but to me I think that Orton is playing great and far from the problem.

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I agree. It's not Orton's fault. So, I don't think he'll lose his job because of other people's issues.

Tom (Simi Valley, CA)

At this point, I don't think McDaniels The Coach is the problem. McDaniels The Guy That Picks The Players is the problem. It's the same problem that doomed Shanahan. As they say, those who don't learn from history...

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

If/when Denver has a new coach, it must also hire a new GM to make the decisions.

Brian Repplinger (KC, Mo.)

Should the Chiefs attempt to take more shots down field this week against a possibly weakened secondary, or should they stick to running all day?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

The run sets up the pass, so if it's available, I can see it.

KCMAN (KCMO)

Speaking of the 2011 Draft do you think the Chiefs go after a great QB prospect and receiver and How do you think Kellen Moore would stand up foe the Chiefs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

I think getting a top receiver for Cassel will be an objective next April.

Roger (Chicago)

Do you ever get angry that you follow such a terrible division?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

It's a fun division right now. I'm having good times.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, folks. Enjoy the showdown Sunday. Talk to you next week.
