Good afternoon and welcome. I picked a winner last week and sit at 4-5 for the season, which is not good. Then again, I am doing better than the democrats. I will try to get to .500 later in this chat. Fire away.
I have read int he past where you called Miami in the 80's was the greatest dynasty since the Roman Empire. It appears that the Miami empire is also destoyed. Can they ever get back?
Well, it is going to be difficult. Losing at Virginia is surprising. It can happen, but first worry about winning the ACC. The injury to Jacory Harris was a big factor in that game.
It's very hard to believe that 10 months after playing for the National Championship, Texas is struggling to become bowl eligible? Is this the fastest tank job in history?
I don't know about quickest tank job, but I would say it is a bad season and that happens. Now we see how valuable Colt McCoy was, and he is playong well for Cleveland by the way. Saying the word tank is sports talk mentality. Teams struggle at times.
We know Joe Pa is going for his 400th win but our coach Kirk Ferentz is going for his 100th win.. Just an FYI..
A good week in the Big Ten. I like coach Ferentz a lot and it is not easy to win at Iowa, and fans out there should realize that. The Hawkeyes were very impressive against Michigan State last week.
Where does this Oregon offense rank among the best of all time in your opinion?
I don't know about best of all time, and I have been around a long time. This Dick team is the most entertaining in both college and the NFL right now. The only thing more enjoyable that watching the Oregon offense is listening to Sinatra. Reruns of Hart to Hart are second.

I was so happy the Wold Series was over in five games. The only thing that would have made me more happy was it ending in four games.

That is pretty good. That is one of the most clever things I have seen since doing this chat for years.
Do you think NBC will reconsider their deal with Notre Dame?
No, and it is set for a long time. As long as Dick Ebersol is president of NBC Sports, the network will do the Notre Dame games, no matter what the record is.
Hi BeanoThoughts on adding Villanova football, Navy, Army and UCF to BE, eliminating Marquatte, Depaul and ND basketball.Gives them 12 teams.
Villanova football makes sense going to FBS. Going to 10 makes sense overall, and I am not sure about those. TC has been rumored to. UCF is legit too. Don't know about getting rid of those basketball schools. The expansion should be for football only.
Which is faster: The rate at which Oregon scores points or the rate at which the Michigan defense allows them?

I am beginning to agree with Mel Kiper that I have overrated their material. Let me make something clear, I am not a Notre Dame rooter. I will say that those who think the Irish are irrelevant don't understand the history of college football.
What did you think about the Georgia assistant giving the choke sign to the Florida kicker? Bad move or heat of the emotion...does this hurt Mark Richt even more?
It was a stupid move. I wonder if that coach realizes Florida won.
You certainly have the history to answer my questions. Even though schools do change names from time to time, like Stanford going from Indians to Trees, is the change from Rebels to Black Bears the dumbest change of all? Thanks!

I think Rich Rod will be back at Michigan next year. as for Shannon at Minnesota, I doubt it. Florida doesn't have any state income tax, another reason to stay south.
Hi Mr. Cook, do you think a Boise State, Utah or TCU could beat an Oregon team if one of these teams played in the Nat'l Championship game.
I think they could, but I don't think they would. It would not be an easy game for the Ducks, though I think Oregon would have a tougher time with Alabama.
Mr. Cook, at one time, watching Irish football was like watching a Humphrey Bogart movie but recently it has been as enjoyable as a Pauly Shore movie. Pathetic, unbearable and unpleasant come to mind. Do you think Brian Kelly has "lost" his team with his coaching decisions? A coach must place his team in a position to win a game, not lose it and his decision to throw the football rather than attempt a field goal was bewildering.
I don't think Kelly has lost the team. This is his first season and he is learning about the pressure of coaching at Notre Dame. My biggest surprise is that the Irish have lost to Navy three of the last four years. That is the shocker to me, with no disrespect to the Middies. By the way, how did Navy lose to Duke last week? That is college football in a nutshell.
Your thoughts on Gene Chizik as a head coach?
Number one, i thought they were crazy to hire him...that shows how much I know. He has done a great job and Auburn could win the national title for the first time since 1957. That year they hared it with Ohio State.
I know you think Notre Dame is not irrelevant, but don't you think that is because of the age difference. Most people in their 20's and teen years don't know anything about Notre Dame's history, and were too young to be even football fans the last time Notre Dame was relevent on the football field. Pretty soon, the majority of college football fans as time goes on won't care about Notre Dame as the young public does today if they don't make a massive turnaround soon.
It is true that the young people have not seen Notre Dame at its best, but if you are a true college football fan, you know something about the part Notre Dame has played in the sport's history.

I am not going to get into that. It is up to Notre Dame to handle that.

Can you name a college football team with a tougher schedule than Alabama? Shouldn't that be a shoe into the BCS title game, even with one loss over anyone else in that category/undefeated non-AQs?
Alabama still has a good chance to play for the national title.
BEANO...HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS...Boise State was always told that they will not move up in the BCS rankings because their schedule was TOO SOFT. However, TCU moved up in the rankings after beating a 1-7 UNLV team. How does this happen? Everything that the public is told about the BCS obviously is not true...I doesn't appear that SOS means anything at all.
I am not sure why all of this happens. You are asking questions that you cannot prove any answer. We have five weeks of college football left, so let's see what happens. Some of these qestions concerning rankings are the same as questions before the computers. People would vote and there were issues then too. Let's see how this plays out.
Beano,Do you think any of the 3/5ths of the top 5 in the BCS right now who are non AQ's would have a chance to win the SEC, Big 10, or Pac 10 this year?I think they would be in the mix for no worse than second. And I think the fact that they all have great defenses AND offenses means they would have a shot at either Oregon or Auburn. None of the top two seem to have any defense.
I don't think that any of those three would have a shot to win the SEC this year. Thety would have a shot in the Big Ten, ACC or Big East. Maybe even the Pac-10 or Big 12.

If they become eligible of the rules of the BCS, yes it could happen. Will they go this year? We will find out but several things still have to happen.
While all the "experts" project the rest of the season they all seem to forget the great equalizer: foul weather. Do you see something like a major snow storm in Reno or nasty freezing rain and wind in Corvallis throwing a monkey wrench in the BCS?

I know losing later in the season hurts, but why does everyone think bama can go to the BCSCG if they win out but Auburn doesn't have a shot if they lose to bama and still win the SECCG?
Auburn has a shot if they lose to Alabama. The difference is Alabama did lose earlier, and it has always worked that was with the voters and the computers. Is that fair? Not necessarily but that is the way it is. John Kennedy once saidlife is unfair.

The helmets have become weapons. Talking about head injuries, I swear we would not have as many if they had leather helmets.
Anyone else here remember LSU in 2007 with two losses playing for the BCS title? They lost their rivalry game, too, before beating (TN?) in the SEC.
That is correct, but that was a very unusual circumstance. LSU lost to Arkansas on Thanksgiving Friday too. I don't see two-loss team playing for the title this year. Under certain circumstances it can happen as lSU proved. Too many unbeatens and one-loss teams right now. There are 17 FBS teams with 0 or one loss right now.
Beano, what do you think about the Nebraska players getting suspended for the head to head hits? Do you think the Big 12 is trying to single out Nebraska since it is leaving for the Big 10?
I don't think the Big 12 would pick on Nebraska because it is leaving. There is a message about safety.
Polls/rankings aside, who is the most complete team in college football, right now?
Auburn.
Alabama is a complete team. Wisconsin is too. There are several talented teams on both ends of the football out there.
Do you think it is purely a coincidence that the 143rd season of college football will start on your 80th birthday?
I had not thought about that. If I make it to 80...
Beano, Which bowl game is K-State going to land in? Do they have a chance?
Kansas State has a shot at a lower bowl. It will not be a bCS bowl, so we have to wait it out and see how the last few weeks work out. Don't make your travel plans quite yet.
I give the same advice to Washington State fans...don't make your travel plans early...
Doug Marrone...National Coach of the Year? Do you people in the media realize that his team can't even practice in full pads due to a lack of depth?
I did not realize that. He is the Coach of the Year in the Big East for sure, and Syracuse has been a tremendous surprise. Carter is a good running back but the way they won at Cincinnati was impressive.
Syracuse's win at West Virginia was also very impressive. It is not easy for Syracuse to win there when the game is not played in shorts.

Sometimes teams score on the best teams. If you are undefeated in the SEC at this point, you are a pretty complete team. Cam Newton has been unbelievable too.

That is a very good game. I am going to go with the Gamecocks in a close on at home. South Carolina and Florida meet next week to decide the SEC East.
