Happy Tuesday everyone. This is my day. Overslept...which I almost never do. Lost my fantasy matchup last night by one point. Just out of sorts...glad you all are here to help me get back on track...let's talk about whose hurt after Week 8.
Hey Stephania...nice comeback in Pick 'Em...Z. Miller going to play even though he was on crutches yesterday????
Danny: Why, thank you. There was one thing that went well for me this week in the games world (that and my Giants won the World Series!!)I'm a little nervous about Miller. He really couldn't do much in the game. His arch is obviously painful if they have him non-weight bearing...they're thinking he'll play - but whether he can play effectively? Probably won't get a better clue until late week since I figure they hold him out early.
hey stephania! congrats on the world series!! quick question...whats up with sidney rice? i'm currently 7-1 and should make the playoffs, is he worth a speculative add for the fantasy playoffs? do you think he'll be able to contribute in weeks 14, 15, and 16 after coming back from the hip injury? thanks ms. bell!
Tom: Thanks!! I have to believe with all the Moss hoopla that somewhere figuring in the background is the idea that Childress is feeling positive about Rice's return. Now he can be activated from PUP list but still need time to get back to games - and I think that will be the case. He is doing some football activity - mostly catching passes, light work, but what little we've heard sounds positive and especially with all the WR injuries going around, if you've got room on the bench, why not stash him?
Is Kenny Britt droppable? Fisher sounds very doom and gloom
Leo: Here's what I would do. If room, keep him for another week. This is a bye and you'll hear next to nothing about how he's doing. Meanwhile pick up a replacement who you'll need anyway for a few weeks. Then see what Britt is doing at the start of the week after next. If he's progressing better than expected, he might be worth keeping. If not doing anything, might lean towards dropping him.
Hi Stephania. Gratz on both your 49ers & Giants winning. Can't say same thing about my Cowboys, Rangers or Longhorns. Didn't like the way Andre Johnson was limping, though he did return. Any news about his ankle? Thanks.
Angelica: Very gracious of you. I have been there where you are, so I empathize. Johnson is one tough guy, who clearly will push himself to play through pain. Not clear yet just how much he aggravated the ankle, but I'm getting the feeling it's going to be a lot of this as the year goes on. The ankle may not be 100% in season. But as long as he continues to play and be effective, he's worth keeping. So until further notice, hang onto him...
How is Hart doing? Think he will play this weekend on a short week?
Barry: Too soon to know. Expected to have an MRI on that ankle today. The short week makes it tougher but until we know a bit more about the injury, hard to say. All RBs banged up, except James, so will be interesting.
What are the chances that Desean Jackson plays on Sunday and if he does do you think the Eagles will limit how many plays he's on the field for?
Jeff: Apparently Jackson thinks it could come down to a gtd. He's back at practice after passing baseline tests but needs to be cleared by independent neurologist to return to play. Much will likely depend how he responds to increased activity in practice. If he's cleared, then there shouldn't be a factor based on health as to how many plays he sees, but the team may decide to go more conservative with him if he does return.
Hi Stephania,Is Torain's injury related to any of his previous injuries or is this a new one and what is your opinion of the "no tear" hamstring ?Thank you and congrats on The Giants.
Mike: Thanks so much!! As far as I know, this is new. Torain simply felt the hamstring pull on a running play right before the half, couldn't loosen up with the exercise bike and then was out. As far as the "no tear" it tells you that they might have seen inflammation on MRI, but saw no visible tear. There can still be microtrauma to the muscle which needs to heal itself and a player can be limited even in the absence of major tissue damage. So a lot will depend on how he feels this week.
Yay Giants! Hi Stephania, What can you tell us about Vernon Davis?
Sarah! Yep - go Giants!! Davis aggravated the same ankle he was having trouble with heading into Sunday's game. But that's all we know. The team has a bye (which can only help) but there is no indication yet that it's anything more than a sprain (which is still limiting), but also no indication that they expect him out after the bye.
Any word on Malcolm floyd?
Andy: The Chargers already expect they will be without him in Week 9. Given that they have a Week 10 bye, I'd say it's almost certain he's out.
Is Steven Jackson going to be 100% coming out of his bye?
BJ: I'd think so. Not a surprise that the finger would be uncomfortable Sunday, but he'll be much further along in the healing process by then.
Is Clinton Portis making any progress?
Julius: Funny you should ask. We're hearing that he has just started doing a couple of things in practice, including doing some light cuts. Shanahan had already said he hoped to get him back to full practice in another week or so. Keep in mind that he's been out for a while and will take some time to get to game speed (AND that assumes no setbacks), but this is encouraging news for him...but not necessarily for Torain.
What is the word on P Thomas? Seems like he may still be out for awhile.
Andrew: I think you summed it up. It's hard for us to know where to go with him b/c when it seems like he's about to pick it up, he can't b/c the ankle is still bothering him. Last week we heard he was back on crutches - not putting weight on the ankle. I can tell you that it certainly appears he is a ways from being game ready. With the Saints having a bye in Week 10, I'm guessing (barring a big surprise) that we won't see him until Week 11 at the earliest.
Pete: Yep, ugh...Stewart really could not make the most of his chances Sunday (unlike last year). Williams apparently still limping in the locker room Monday (and this after a week off), also not putting a timetable on his return. Doesn't sound particularly encouraging to me although Weds will be first full practice with report. Get some insurance though if you have him on your roster.
Go Lions!!!! ROAR!!!! Anyway, how's Favre? I've got Stafford replacing Romo, but I'm worried about the Jets. Do I pick up Favre for this week? What if I had to drop Romo to do it? Any chance Romo plays again this season? Somebody in my league would grab him.
Josh: I really don't see Romo returning. Even if they were considering it, it would be in a scenario where they're playoff bound. And if Kitna pulls THAT off, why wouldn't they keep him in? And if, as is more likely the case, they continue to be awful, why risk it? I'd stick with Stafford and take the younger, healthier guy.
Torture to Rapture!!! Anything on Austin Collie? Looking at trading for him for the FF playoffs. And did Anthony Gonzales get dinged up?
AL: Exactly!! No word from the Colts on Collie but can't say that's a surprise. They said several weeks once he had the surgery and it probably will be. But I expect him back - no reason to think otherwise - and I expect him to be used just as he was (Manning shows he'll plug anyone into the packages who's on the field and Collie, if healthy, gets back on the field) and useful down the road. Gonzalez apparently got generally beat up a bit by the game but no word of a specific setback (yet).
Whats the latest on Nnamdi Asomugha's injury? Will he miss next weeks game?
MC: They're saying high ankle sprain but no word yet as to whether he's likely to miss.
Have you heard anything on Percy Harvin's ankle injury?
Mike: All we've heard is that he was limping severely in the locker room post-game. All Childress would say Monday was that he was getting treatment and he was "sore." It's not going to be easy for him either without Moss as he's sure to draw more coverage. Not Harvin's best week.
In your expert opinion, is there any chance Joseph Addai plays this week? Looked like he was able to lift his arm and slap Mike Hart five last night.
Daniel: Love the observational skills. I did not see the high five (I was naturally watching my GIants most of the night) - so the question is, was it his left hand? No official word from the team, as you would expect, and we won't get anything until next full practice (prob tomorrow).
I'm hearing Donald Brown wasn't hurt and that James was part of the game plan. Do you know something i don't about Brown?
Stephan: COlts actually said that - of course they didn't tell us that before the game. But my guess is that they wanted to control Brown's playing time and this was a way to do it. He also was not as effective as you'd like to see, possibly in part due to his long absence. Not clear how team will divvy things up going forward, esp once Addai is healthy.
what impact will Calvin Johnson's shoulder have on him the rest of the year?
Jeff: Apparently even though he's off the injury report, he's still having a lot of discomfort in his shoulder. Didn't stop him from scoring three times, but I would say that it's worth keeping in mind that he's not necessarily 100%. So at the first sign of problems I'd be securing a backup.
I apologized if I missed this but has anyone asked about Vince Young yet?
JB: You did not miss it - we hadn't touched on it. Aggravated the already sprained ankle but the bye comes at the right time. TItans sound as if they expect him to be starting in their next game. Won't do much activity at all this week but they hope to have him back when they practice start of next week.
Is Vick really starting on Sunday? And with the nature of his injury, the chances of him re-injuring himself in his first game back is ____%?
DH; Yes, that's the plan. I think his re-injury risk is pretty high - prob 50-50. The question is how injured? Will he hurt? I believe he will whenever he takes a hard blow. If he gets sandwiched again, or lands hard on the right side and someone falls on top of him, there's a decent chance that it makes the rib cartilage (which may not fully heal until the season is over) hurt...a lot. But, if he avoids a lot of contact and stays upright, might be fine. Reward vs risk.
No chance Reggie Bush plays till week 11, correct?
Johnny: I haven't heard it officially yet - but the signs are pointing to a Week 11 return. He would need to do a LOT in practice this week to get back, they have a bye next week. Looks like it's the week after.
Any word on Orton being sore?
Erich: That's all the Broncos said - sore. Bruised ribs is the unofficial word but the team did not label him with an "injury." Will be interesting to see what he's able to do in practice.
what is with ochocinco? ribs? and is Ivory going to start this week?
Mike: Ochocinco got roughed up a bit but no official injury. Expect Ivory to start as long as clears concussion tests.
Not injury, just want some fantasy advice. Would you drop Moeaki for Tamme, Daniels, Watson or Celek? I also start Charles and usually Bowe.
Jay: You have to like Tamme after Monday. And you know Clark isn't coming back.
OK gang - thanks so much for coming. Time to vacate the chat room. Appreciate all the great questions - and thanks for the shout-outs for the SF Giants! Have a great week - and see you Friday.
