Chat with Cat Whitehill

Cat Whitehill
  (3:03 PM)

Hey everybody, thanks for joining me in this chat today. Let's get started!

Jamie (Charlotte, NC)

Hey Cat, how was your time playing for UNC? The best women's college soccer team ever

Cat Whitehill
  (3:04 PM)

(Laughing) It was the best four consecutive soccer years of my life. I won two championships and had the chance to play the best teammates and under the best coaching staff out there.

cat lover (CT)

Cat you are my favorite player for sure, beyond team training, what do you do that keeps you in such good shape?

Cat Whitehill
  (3:06 PM)

During the season it's mainly team training. But nutrition is a big part of it as well as getting rest. I like to run and do sprint work in the offseason. Just keeping an active lifestyle is always important. I walk my dogs for at least an hour each day and that helps with conditioning.

James (Bristol, CT)

Can we expect a win against Mexico tonight?

Cat Whitehill
  (3:08 PM)

Well I sure hope so, I know that Mexico is a really good team. I know they put a lot of effort into making their team good but the USA is still one of the best teams out there.

LeDona (Richmond, VA)

What does UNC need to do in oder to repeat as national champs?

Cat Whitehill
  (3:09 PM)

I think the first thing they need is to get healthy. They've had a lot of unfournate injuries lately. They also need their veteran players to step up and show the younger kids what it takes to go though an NCAA tournament and win it.

Shawn (Greensboro, NC)

UNC just came off of a 2-0 win over Wake and they play them again tonight. What does UNC have to do to get another win?

Cat Whitehill
  (3:12 PM)

That's a good question. Wake is a good team and they just beat FSU 3-1. With the injuries UNC has, it's going to be tough to win back-to-back games against them. But I know Anson Dorrance has something up his sleeve. He knows how to get it done.

T Reddock (Birmingham, AL)

Do you think soccer in your home state, Alabama, is improving any?

Cat Whitehill
  (3:14 PM)

Yes, I do think Alabama soccer has gotten a lot better. We have a lot of teams that are sponsored and representing the state well. Katy Frierson from Auburn is an All-American. Merritt Mathias who played at UNC and in now playing at Texas A

Paul A. (Manhattan, KS)

What is your favorite level of soccer to watch on TV?

Cat Whitehill
  (3:16 PM)

I love watching the English Premier League. Some of my favorite players play in that league and I love how ESPN airs games every weekend. I also love watching the WPS because I have a lot of friends is that league and I love supporting them.

Linda (Missouri)

What was your most embarrassing moment on a soccer field?

Cat Whitehill
  (3:17 PM)

(Laughing) Scoring an own goal in my home town of Birmingham, Alabama. That's always embarrassing for a defender and it's double embarrassing when it's in your home town.

Daniel (Kansas)

Who do you think will win the NCAA Championship this year?

Cat Whitehill
  (3:18 PM)

That's a good question. It's always hard to deny UNC because of their tradition but I think Stanford and Portland have a good shot.

Cat Whitehill
  (3:21 PM)

Thanks everyone for tuning in. Stay tuned for the SEC Championship game at 3 p.m. Sunday on ESPNU.
