Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

Greetings Fight Freaks, I am live from Cowboys Stadium doing this chat today as we look ahead to tomorrow's big Pacquiao-Margarito fight. I have features and blogs posted from throughout the week and we have some great videos as well from our man Kieren Mulvaney. So we have plenty to discuss. Let's get to it! It's HUGE fight weekend.

Jeremy (Arlington, TX)

Dan, I need a ticket for the fight. Can you hook me up? I'll tell you where to get the best tacos in town.

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

Sorry bro. I have no tix.

geo (ela)

Say hello to the dallas cheerleaders for me dan!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

Now that request I can take care of.

Rob (NYC)

Hey Dan, how much weight do you think Margarito puts on between the weigh in and the fight and do you think this helps or hurts him. thanks!

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

I know Margarito is struggling to make weight, which is no surprise. I think he'll make 150 and go up over 160 on fight night. If you ask Freddie Roach, he says let him put on as much weight as he wants. They believe the heavier he is, the better for Pacquiao because a fighter who is already slow will be even slower.

Keiran (Syracuse)

Ahmad Danshaw, PLEASE answer this. I have to get this question in early b/c I can't make the chat tomorrow, but you know I'll read the transcript. Me and this Pacquiao fanatic have been arguing over something I need your opinion on. He thinks that Pacman has more one punch power than Mosley, and I feel Shane has better power. What do you think? His logic is Manny knocked Cotto down and out, but I explained to him Cotto fought an entirely different fight against Mosley, and boxed instead of brawling and leaving himself open. Who has better one punch power in your opinion??

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 PM)

I think at this point in their careers, Pacquiao is definitely the better one-punch puncher. No question.

79John Oakland,Ca [via mobile]

Do you think my boy Andre Ward is wasting his time in the Super six tournament?

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 PM)

Not at all. He's beating the best fighters, he won a world title and he's making a lot of money.

Ed (Toronto)

What's your opinion on how Glen Johnson does in the Super 6?

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 PM)

I give him a good chance to make the finals for sure. He's here in Dallas and just is so appreciative to even be in the tourney. He is playing with house money.

Julio (DFW)

Could you see a scenario where Angulo fights Mosley at 154?

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

I suppose that could happen but I don't see it.

Horn (Vegas)

Do you think Margarito's idiotic antics have helped sell the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

Unfortunately, yes.

Rob (Denton, Tx)

Well what do you think, does it break the indoor attendance record ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

Well that record is 63,000something. I think it has a very serious chance to do so.

Dennis (Pittsburgh)

Any big fights this weekend?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

Hmmmmmmm, Ducker-Harrison over in the UK?

Ryan (Glastonbury, CT)

Dan I'm pretty hungover. No time to mess around. Pick for the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

The official pick: Pacquiao on points although I can see a late stoppage.

Super 6 (Las Vegas, NV)

Allen Green, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

Well said.

Joel (Eastchester, NY)

Dan, with the Showtime deal with Bute, will they televise his next fight which Bute said would be in March?

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

Yes, he is exclusive with Showtime for at least his next three fights.

Horn (Vegas)

Has Brandon Rios hurt his reputation during the Margarito promotion? He has been deemed as Margarito's puppet.

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

Yes, he made himself look like an idiot and acted in a cruel manner. A lot of people won't forget that.

TOny (Chicago)

Dan, where do they put you press guys at in Dallas stadium? Have you taken a tour of the venue yet? I hear it?s massive.

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

I was here for the March fight Pacquiao had and this place is incredible. They seat us at ringside like usual for fights at other venues. I have not toured the entire facility but I have seen a good amount of it. It's amazing. For this chat, I am actually at a table our production people set up for the TV shots I had to do earlier, so I am on my laptop literally in the main concourse near one of the end zones. Lots of activity going on around as they prepare the stadium for the weigh in and fight night. It's pretty cool to see.

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 PM)

Never know what's going to happen do ya? Just had to move my entire table! I'm back.

Justin (Kentucky)

Is there any truth to the rumors that Shane Mosley may be signing with Top Rank?

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

Shane is telling people he's a free agent and can fight for any promoter. Arum definitely has Mosley in mind for Pacquiao if he wins and they can't make a Mayweather fight. Shane wants the fight and the money. If there's no Mayweather fight it would not shock me at all if he made the Mosley fight. Read his comments about it my blog from yesterday.

Rob (New York)

I read Margarito has been have some weight issues maybe with the last few pounds and he's just been running and not training much recently. Fact or fiction?

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 PM)

I was told he has been spending a good amount of time in the sauna the past few days.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan, my pick: manny by TKO11, i think margacheato's camp throws in the towel after to much punishment.

ES (NY)

Tell Jerry Jones the 'boys are doing down again on Sunday.

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

I look forward to getting home Sunday and then sitting back and watching the Giants crush the Cowboys. Life is good.

Will (Sheffield)

If he beats Harrison do you think Haye will finally take the Klitschko fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

No.

Chris (Tempe)

Dan, Are you planning to visit Southfork Ranch again while in Dallas? Also, do you secretly hope Pacquiao?s next fight is in Denver so you can visit the Dynasty Mansion?

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

LOL. No Southfork plans this trip. I lived the dream last time. And, as far as I know, the mansion used in the Dynasty series, is actually locateed in LA.

Jim (Austin)

Dan, people constantly bring up how Margarito took something from Cotto (not really deniable) but how come people never bring up that maybe Cotto took a lot from Margarito? Cotto landed bombs all night and Margarito has looked awful since.

Dan Rafael
  (12:19 PM)

You are absolutely right. Cotto did take a lot out of Margarito.

Josh (Virginia)

Am I the only one that watched 24/7 and saw Pacquiao and Khan sparring and wished that was the fight tomorrow instead of Margarito? Khan is probably not quite ready yet though.

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

That fight won't happen at this point. They've become friends and have the same trainer and Amir has work to do at 140 for the next couple of years anyway.

James (Pacoima Ca.)

Dan, which fights are u looking forward to most on the undercard it seems there are dozens?

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

I am very interested in the Rigondeaux-Cordoba fight.

Power Pellets (Las Vegas)

With you being in the stadium doing the chat, any chance a mystery guest or 2 will show up?

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 PM)

I am at the stadium chatting and if anyone of note comes by I'll see if they want to stop in and chat.

John (Phoenix)

Is ESPN3 carrying the undercard? I read that Kieran said we could watch it on E3, but I dont know what that is.

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

The off TV undercard is supposed to be streamed on ESPN.com or ESPN3.com.

Mike (Higley Az.)

DTM, From a distance, this fight looks bigger to me than Pac-Cotto. Do you think this will sell more PPV's?

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

Pac-Cotto did about 1.25 million buys. I think this one will be in a similar ballpark. I could see it doing a bit more or a little less. But that area.

Bo (NYC)

Dan, what's your official pick for the Ducker fight tomorrow? And can it be seen in the US?

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 PM)

Ducker by knockout. But Audley has good power and you never know.

bubba (ottawa il)

Dan, its bad enough pac is fighting margo. But what will he gain by beating a past his prime mosley? Or will we just blame that fight on mayweather? LOL. Just asking. But I dont see the upside in taking a fight with sugar shane. JMO

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

The reality is there are no really attractive opponents for Mayweather or Pacquiao except the other guy. Now Pacman-Marquez III, at a reasonable weight and if they both win their fights, would be a massive fight but pale compared to Mayweather. But if Pac-May doesn't happen, Manny isn't going to just not fight. They'll find the best opponent they can find in terms of money and name.

amr (StonyBrook, NY)

Hey Dan, I was reading the 12 rounds entry comparing Pacman and Margacheato, I was wondering if you wrote them?

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

I did not. Those pieces are written by Graham Houston.

Steve (OH)

I hope Margarito leaves this fight with permanent brain damage.

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

That is wrong dude and you look like a moron for saying it. And you know what? You're banned. For life.

Chris C (Washington DC)

Hey Dan, weird question but I was thinking the other day, what athletes in other sports do you think would have made great boxers? I know Brandon Jacobs on our Giants loves boxing and I think he would have been a fun guy to watch in the ring.

Dan Rafael
  (12:26 PM)

Man, he LOOKS like the heavyweight champ if ever anyone did.

brian (paradise)

I had Judah winning 114-113 but it the fight could have went either way ,what did you score the fight , I don't know what people like De La Hoya were watching when they say Matthysse got robbed

Dan Rafael
  (12:26 PM)

They are crybabies sticking up for their guy. Maybe Oscar, who is the promoter of Matthysse, should have taken the time to show up at his own guy's fight, watch it in person and then make his case. He didn't even show up at his own HBO card.

Cole (Payson, UT)

Layda Steve!! Good call on the banishment. Cheato may be a DB, but ya don't wish that on anyone.

Ryan (IL)

Whats up Dan? Any chance of Cotto fighting the winner of Pac - Margarito to unify the 154 titles? I would think Margarito would be more likely if he wins since it looks Pacman will once again try for Floyd Jr and if not, you mentioned a possible Pac - Mosely fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:27 PM)

I think Cotto in rematches with either guys is possible.

Dave (Manassas, VA)

Do you see Pacman's 7 (and 8 by Sunday) division title ever be broken?

Dan Rafael
  (12:28 PM)

I would never say never but he seems to be putting it out of reach.

Rob (Denton, Tx)

What has Ronnie Shields said about Mike Lee, is he high on him or does he think he is a long project ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

I've spoken to Ronnie about Mike, as well as talked to Mike and his dad while I've been here. Ronnie is very high on him, but he's very green. But from what Ronnie says, Lee has a tremendous work ethic, is a quick study and very motivated. I really like what I see from him so far. He has everything you want to see and seems to be a genuinely good young man. I wish him well in his career. It will be fun to watch him develop. If -- IF -- it turns out he can develop his skills and become a serious fighter, he could be a monster monster monster star.

Paulie (Santa Fe)

If Allan Green spent half as much effort getting off the canvas as he did arguing with the ref, perhaps he could?ve continued the fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:32 PM)

LOL.

craig (md)

i have this sinking feeling, who are tomorrows judges for the main event

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 PM)

I forget. But I posted them on my Twitter yesterday. You should be following me anyway -- @danrafaelespn

Cole (Payson, UT)

Could you see Bute fighting one of the Super 6 withdrawls, Kessler or Dirrell, before the tournament is over?

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 PM)

I think Kessler is a possibility, yes.

Justin (North Dakota)

Is there a rematch clause if Manny somehow looses?

Dan Rafael
  (12:34 PM)

Bob Arum told me at dinner last night that there is no rematch clause of any kind for either fighter. Bob does not believe in rematch clauses generally so it doesn't surprise me. His point is if it's a great fight, they can make it again.

jay-money (dallas,tx)

what time is the weigh in????

Dan Rafael
  (12:34 PM)

5:15 CT, live on SportsCenter. I'll be working it with Brian Kenny.

Bing (Philly)

Keiren shot this down yesterday but I was wondering your thoughts. Should he win Saturday, any chance Manny fights the winner of Martinez vs. Williams for the middleweight title(at a catchweight of 155)?

Dan Rafael
  (12:35 PM)

Unlikely.

Raul Jr. (Everett, WA)

Hey DTM, i thought Brandon Rios came off as a punk in the first episode of 24/7 but now i think hes just a punk a** bum for making fun of Freddie Roach. Freddie Roach has accomplished more as a trainer than Rios ever will in the Ring

Julio (Panama)

Dano, have you had any run-ins with el presidente or do you think he reads the transcripst of the chat? Hed prolly try to give a belt to the best quote...For a small sanction fee of course

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 PM)

I have seen president for life Jose Sulaiman but we have not spoken. I did see and speak to his son Mauricio briefly. I did not receive a belt.

mike (darien)

Danny the manny, you think my boy bj flores got a shot to topple danny green down under?

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

I actually give him a good shot to win.

Matt (Houston)

Dan, did ESPN3 give any consideration to broadcasting Haye-Harrison?

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 PM)

I don't know.

Parole Officer (Walking around the stadium)

Anyone seen James Kirkland around?

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 PM)

I heard he is getting a custom mouthpiece made.

Ausberto (Uncasville, CT)

Does Pacquiao look up to speed in his last few days of training or does he look like he's behind? And how is the mood in his camp recently?

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

I watched Manny's final workout last night and he did four rounds with Freddie on the mitts and also hit the speed bag. He looked very explosive and seemed in a verty good mood. He's ready to fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 PM)

I watched Manny's final workout last night and he did four rounds with Freddie on the mitts and also hit the speed bag. He looked very explosive and seemed in a verty good mood. He's ready to fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

I watched Manny's final workout last night and he did four rounds with Freddie on the mitts and also hit the speed bag. He looked very explosive and seemed in a very good mood. He's ready to fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

I put some pix of his training up on my Twitter.

Jimmy (Indiana)

Dan, whatever happened to big fights on the weeknights? Growing up, I remember Hearns-Hagler and other fights taking place mid-week.

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

They don't do it anymore. They have determined that the best business is big fights on Saturday. End of story.

Steve (NYC)

What ever happened to Top Rank doing a show in the new Giants stadium?

Dan Rafael
  (12:41 PM)

Arum still wants to do it, but needs the right fight. It'll happen eventually I would imagine.

leo (charlotte)

President Jose Sulaiman, Vice-President Dan Rafael. lol

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

Never. Unless, perhaps, for a large sanctioning fee.

Plaster of Paris (Home Depot)

Antonio....I'm rooting for ya!

Mike (Chicago)

Can you speak on the greatness of Manny? Are we watching one of the top ten fighters of all time? Top five?

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

His career is not over yet, but he is certainly making his way up the all-time list.

Joel (Queens,NY)

I have seen you say that Pacquiao and Mayweather are like 1A and 1B on the pound for pound list, but if Pacquiao wins is he the legitimate #1 pound for pound and Mayweather the #2 pound for pound?

Dan Rafael
  (12:44 PM)

My belief is that Manny is No. 1 right now and Floyd 2 if for no other reason that Manny fights regularly and Floyd doesn't. If Manny wins, it will only reinforce his position.

Devale (Chicago)

Dan do you think Margacheato's disgusting mocking of Freddy Roach will add fuel to Pac-Man or does he just ignore that stuff.

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 PM)

He knows about it probably and it just may be one of the many things in his mind as far as motivation.

Joe (Circle City)

Is Mike Jones legit?

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 PM)

I believe so. I expect him to look very good tomorrow.

craig (md)

in your opinion which fight has been the most important historically for Pacman? I feel the dlh fight as it showed he could move all the way up in weight and still be effective

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 PM)

Oscar fight without a doubt.

Tony (Tampa)

Dan,Freddie Roach is on Jim Rome right now and said he thinks Mayweather will fight Manny after this fight. Said Mayweather has no other options. Accurate?

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

He doesn't really have any legit options, but who knows? He could also be in prison.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, I enjoyed your blog on the picks from other fighters on who'll win tomorrow night. Is there anyone, marque fighter or sportswriter, who is absolutely convinced that Margacheato is going to beat Pacquiao?

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

If there is I am not aware of it.

jay-money (dallas,tx)

dan have u tasted the tortillas in the stadium, i just saw a piece on tv about them.

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

LOL, no.

Jess (CA)

Better all time Pacquiao or Trinidad?

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

Pacquiao. Not really close.

phil (oc)

If mayweather pacquiao takes place next, when will it be?

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

Ideally next May or June.

Joel (Queens,NY)

To Mark From Brooksville, Fla. I saw a interview with Teddy Atlas and he is picking Margarito by kncokout

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

There ya go.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan, you mentioned that arum would consider the winner of alexander v bradley as a future opponent; would you rather see that fight first, or alexander/bradley winner v. khan/maidana winner first?

Dan Rafael
  (12:51 PM)

If the winner of Bradley-Alexander can get Manny who could blame them? It's a huge fight. Keep in mind, Arum is not saying that's next. Was talking about two fights from now, Manny's fall 2011 fight. Long way before then. Of course, I'd like to see Brad-Alex winner face Khan-Maidana winner but I would understand obviously if that didn't happen because the winner got Manny.

Igor (Dallas)

If Pacman looses will it be the upset of the 21st century and will it be on par with Tyson - Baster D

Dan Rafael
  (12:51 PM)

Not at all. It's an upset by I won't consider it a HUGE upset.

Mitch (Oakland, CA)

Dan - The nice part about foreclosing on my house, maybe the only nice part, is that I'll have money to see some more boxing and get my premium cable back. Good bye mortgage. Hello ruined credit but more boxing.

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

Now that my man is what I call a guy who can truly find the silver lining.

Pribs (Bethlehem, PA)

Get the feeling Kelly Pavlik will be cashing in on the $25 rebate Tecate is offering?

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley.

Gatekeeper (DFW)

bigger event? Pac vs Morales or this fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

This fight.

Bert (Norco, CA)

Is Jerry Jones still not around?

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

With the Cowboys coaching situation, Jerry has not been around at all, but he is supposed to be at the weigh in and the fight.

Gutterdandy (nyc)

Reputation-wise, Ducker can't really win with Audley: if he destroys him, so what, he was supposed to, and if he happens to lose....

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

It's his own fault for, well, being a Ducker.

Dan Rafael
  (12:56 PM)

It is now absolutely POURING here at the stadium.

Laurence Cole (Texas)

Dan, do you want to quit the chat? You're ahead.

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley!!!

Christopher (Staten Island)

Hey Dan, what's your gut feeling, do you think Margarito had loaded gloves against Cotto and maybe even Cintron? It just seems like he hurt and bloodied those guys a little too easily.

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 PM)

Yes, I think he had loaded wraps. I've said it before and will go to my grave believing he cheated.

Arthur Mercante Jr. (Texas)

No Dan, you can't quit the chat. It's a great chat and I don't want to see you go out because of a little rain.

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 PM)

Well played.

Aaron (Hartford)

What happend to Gale Van Hoy..I thought he was one of the judges.. ?

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

He is one of the judges for one of the PPV undercard bouts. I think the Mike Jones-Karass fight.

Dexter M. (Philly)

Dan - your pick on Jones-Soto Karass? I'd say Jones by UD. And if he does win, do you think he's ready for a big fight - like say Berto?

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 PM)

I love Jones in the fight.

Brian (Penn State)

is the ring directly under the big screen? Probably looks gi-normous looking up at it

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

Yes, the ring is set up on the star in the middle of the field.

dan (NY)

How far up in weight do you think pacman can go and still remain dominant?

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 PM)

I think he's at his limit. Any heavier than junior middle is going to be very daunting if he tries.

chuzen (st. louis)

jones v. berto would be SICK

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

Would like to see it.

Igor (Dallas)

WHAT IS THE LOVE CHILD JOKE, please tell me Dan!

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

LOL! One thing to say -- Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child!! Explain it Freaks. He must be new around these here parts.

joe m (n.h)

man I'm stupid. I just ended a chat with some hot chick on F.B to try to talk to you Dan.LMAO

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

That rocks.

Carlo B (Vilnius, Lithuania (!))

DTM - Tell the truth do you giggle inside when you hear the UK media calling Ducker "the next Tyson", "Heavyweight super-star" etc -- They actually considered the Ruiz win a Serious statement win

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

My British pals are a wee bit excited and are prone to massive overstatements.

Kevin (Hartford)

Look...we all have made fun of people from time to time... like for example me being from hartford...but at least be smart enough to not have it taped especially with the type of media this fight gets... idiots...

Dan Rafael
  (1:06 PM)

I would have no problem with someone taping me saying Hartford is a pit.

Pete (NYC)

Do you think Cordoba can give Rigo a good run, or did the Dunne fight take too much out of him?

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

Good question. No way of knowing until we see the fight. I am quite interested in that one.

Boxing Fans (England)

David Haye...great Heavyweight, or the greatest Heavyweight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:06 PM)

Good cruiserweight.

Ryan (PVD)

The Love Child is Dan's semi-adopted illegitimate son who was the next coming in Dan's eyes. He had a ton of potential.

Luis (Van Nuys. CA)

Is Dennis Laurente friends of Pacman?

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

He is one of the fighters with Manny's promotional company.

Chris (Riverside, CA)

After tomorrow night Paquiao will have one more win this year than the Cowboys have halfway thru the season!

Dan Rafael
  (1:08 PM)

And two more at home.

Perdun (Brookline)

who wins, Floyd or Pac?

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

Seriously? Are you really going there?

JonG (Queens)

great fight last saturday with JuanMa and Marquez. Do you agree that without the 8th sound surrender another 2 or 3 rounds could have given us our top FOY candidate to date?

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

It was moving in that direction and it was a helluva fight but it is not FOY.

Tony (Tampa)

Berto/Haymon will ask HBO $3mill to fight Jones and then when HBO declines, Berto/Haymon will say they are unable to get dangerous fights due to opponents ducking them.

Dan Rafael
  (1:11 PM)

Do you work for HBO?

David (Tn)

Dan! I was a huge Pavlik fan...we flew to both Taylor fights to support him...but I think he made his milions and his desire is no longer there

Dan Rafael
  (1:11 PM)

Perhaps. Or it could be the man has other issues.

Billy Jack (Arizona)

Stoked for the Pac-Margarito fight but the undercard is dreadful. Another disappointment from Bob Arum. I?ll watch college football until the main event.

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 PM)

Relative to usual PPV undercards it is not dreadful at all.

Justin (St. Louis)

Dan, where on earth are they having alex-bradley fight? any word?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

Not set but Gary Shaw told me recently Atlanta was a good possibility.

Joe (NJ)

Dan any chance we spot you during the fight in the crowd. Are your seats good??

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

I'll have a good seat, yes, for which I am appreciative. The press will be seated right behind where the HBO announcer table is.

James (San Francisco)

Dan, please answer this question. I scoured the internet and forums but couldn't find the answer. What's the glove size for Pac vs margarito? 8oz or 10oz?

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 PM)

Just for you, I called Top Rank's Todd duBoef and asked him. They are both wearing 8-ounce Reyes gloves. The fight is at 150, which is normally 10-ounce territory but both fighters wanted 8s, so that is what they are wearing.

Dennis (Pittsburgh)

After reading Margacheato's response to the video of him making fun of Freddie Roach's disease I have no doubt in my mind. He lied about knowing he was boxing with loaded gloves. We have video proof of him making fun of Freddie and he still claims his innocence. He is a complete scumbag.

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

You comments is one of hundreds that I have been receiving that say basically the same thing. It seems like most people are rooting not only for Pacquiao to win but for Margarito to get his butt crushed.

Jeff (Dearborn, MI)

You mentioned Pacquiao possibly fighting the winner of Bradley-Alexander. Would that fight be at 140 pounds?

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

Certainly not. Welterweight.

Jerry (Phoenix)

Realistically, at his age, how much longer do you think Bob Arum can promote fights?

Dan Rafael
  (1:18 PM)

Bob will promote until he's either dead or physically unable to. He still love it and still has energy and is seemingly in good health. He certainly can still party with the best of them and he could drink most of us under the table.

Jason (Riverisde,CA)

Hi Dan. If you are able to tell us, what has been your favorite behind the scenes story so far.

Dan Rafael
  (1:19 PM)

I really enjoyed watching Pacquiao's last workout last night.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Dan I have seen a lot of people rag on Judah's performance last week but I thought he had a solid game plan. He was fighting a tough guy with power and did what he had to do to win. Do you think the fight diminished his chances of getting a big fight at all?

Dan Rafael
  (1:20 PM)

I agree with you 100000%. I think with his name he will get another significant fight.

Tom (Wheeling, WV)

Dan, were you a little surprised that two of the judges had Green ahead in the Johnson fight? I thought Johnson was in control most of the time.

Dan Rafael
  (1:20 PM)

I was shocked. I thought Glen was clearly winning a competitive fight.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan, i was a big fan of rios after his fight with peterson, but after that video, i hope he finally gets his wish to fight victor ortiz, so that rios can get KTFO! totally classless on team margarito

Mike (Los Angeles)

What was it that made the workout last night really enjoyable vs a typical workout? What made it stand out?

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 PM)

You know it's the very last one before the fight so you see super intensity because it's like, well, this is it. Let's get every ounce out of this workout. Manny did that. And then it's like, we're done. We trained for what we had to do and we're ready to fight. There's a cool sense of finality to it to go with a sense of confidence. It's pretty cool to see and hear and feel the tension. Hard to explain.

MikeRo (Chicago)

Have you noticed that the blogosphere has a lot of Venom for Andre Ward? What's up with that? I think the kid does things the right way, talks up God and Family...but he cant win with the fans....sad really.

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

If you don't like Andre Ward you probably hate your mom, don't like ice cream and like to cut worms in half.

Joe (Circle City)

Good info - eight ozers should produce the KO the fans want to see.

Andrew (Hamilton, On.)

Whats the atmosphere like in Dallas, can the outside public tell that a massive fight is about to happen?

Dan Rafael
  (1:24 PM)

In the hotel, you can feel it for sure. The turnout at the presser on Wednesday was impressive.

Dave (Rochester, NY)

Dan, do you have a cameo on the final 24/7 episode?

Dan Rafael
  (1:24 PM)

I have no idea. If they were shooting somewhere I was I guess it's possible.

Roy (Reno)

Arum can drink people under the table? I would have never guessed and I love him even more now!

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

Bob can party with the best of them. You reminded me of the time I was covering a fight in Memphis I think it was - Pavlik-Miranda -- and a bunch of us were out at some club and Arum was out on the dance floor grooving like there was no tomorrow with a drink in his hand.

Mike (Massapequa)

do you think Margarito has enough power to put Pacman on the canvas?

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

If he lands, of course.

Franklin (Phoenix, AZ)

DanTap, what's up next for my favorite guy Winky Wright?

Dan Rafael
  (1:27 PM)

Who?

Mike C. (Portland, Or.)

Any truth to the rumors that you plan to announce your retirement from writing in Hour 1 of this chat, only to announce you've changed your mind in Hour 2?

Dan Rafael
  (1:27 PM)

It's possible and then you might be the interim super chatter while I am briefly the chatter emeritus in recess.

Jose Sulaiman (WBC Headquarters)

I would like to announce my retirement from the Dan Rafael chat due to a shortage in small sanctioning fee payments. I will never, never, never, never return to this chat.

Dan Rafael
  (1:28 PM)

Good riddance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brian (NC)

I've read Bob Arum say that Pacquiao is the biggest Boxing star since Muhammad Ali. I don't think Pac is bigger than Tyson was at his peak but was interested in your opinion on the matter.

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 PM)

I think globally Manny is on that level. Tyson was massive in the US but maybe not as big globally. But I think Bob's point is about Pacquiao is that Manny is revered by many for his outside the ring stuff whereas Tyson was feared as a boxer but did nothing socially, like become a congressman to help his people. But clearly the biggest boxing icons of modern times are Ali, Ray Leonard, Tyson, De La Hoya and Pacquiao.

Dave (Rochester, NY)

Dan, earlier this week you were discussing an Arum conversation about Manny never fighting african american fighters, making a selling point for a possible Mosley fight. Is it just me or is Joshua Clottey not a black fighter?

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

He is but not American. He is an African African. Mosley is an African-American.

Matt (Spokane, WA)

Dan-- any chance you scream out "How 'bout them Cowboys?!?!?" just before the bell rings to start the fight??

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

Highly unlikely unless I receive a small sanctioning fee, of course.

AW (PHX)

So Jose Benavidaz Jr on ESPN3??????

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

Yes.

Joe (NJ)

African African. LMFAO

Dominic (San Francisco)

Dan, does Margarito make any money of the pay per view? I want to know so if I order it I won't be putting more money in his pocket.

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

Margarito is guaranteed $3 million. With the expected success of the PPV his take will easily double and maybe even more, Arum told me last night at dinner.

marc (work)

why does it seem Pac always has these catchweight title fights, If he his fighting for the 154 LBS title then the weight should be 154 not 150. Does that take away from his wins at all in your opinion if he is forcing these fighters to come in drained from the weight cut

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

This is his second catch weight fight. Hardly a trend.

Bubba (ottawa il)

FYI, Im a die hard cowboys fan and these jokes are hurting my feelings. Im taking my 5 rings and going home.

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 PM)

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Matt (Spokane, WA)

OK, how about "GIANTS RULE!!" ??

Dan Rafael
  (1:35 PM)

I might do that for free.

Shane (Portland, OR)

Any word on Roy Jones Jr?

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 PM)

I talked to Roy for a bit last week at the Newark fight. He was on the HBO broadcast. He's just kicking back, no specific plans at the moment. He looked good and sounded good. I have a feeling if he fights again, he'll look to be at cruiser or heavy, not at light heavy.

Isai (OKC)

Think you can get Jose Sulaiman to join the chat. Imagine what the Freaks would say to him! LOL

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 PM)

The chat would have to stop because I can't post cuss words on the chat.

Joel (Queens,NY)

Any word on Elio Rojas?

Dan Rafael
  (1:37 PM)

He's on ice for the next several months because of a shoulder injury.

jay-money (dallas,tx)

wasn't there a catch weight for the clottey fight???

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

No, 147 limit.

MikeRo (Chicago)

C'mon marc @ work..if you consider yourself a so-called freak then you know the divisions are weight limits, not minimums. Is Tommy Hearns or Ray Leonard considered any less for fighting in catch weight fights during their careers? Enough already.

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

Exactly. People forget that Ray did catch weights in some major fights.

Joe (NJ)

RAD! RAD! RAD! RAD!. Any chance tomorrow?

Dan Rafael
  (1:40 PM)

I'm not sure how many times I have to answer this but here it goes: When I am AT a fight there is NO RAD because I need to write my story and often also do television appearances. So tomorrow there is no shot. I will Tweet during the fight so follow me on Twitter.

Gil (NYC)

Happy for Jim on his daughter's wedding ... a little bummed he won't call the real megafight next week

Dan Rafael
  (1:42 PM)

He of course is happy his daughter is getting married but he said he might be missing the best fight of the year when we talked about it at dinner last night.

Al (Las Cruces, NM)

Any word on who Robert Guerrero might fight next?

Dan Rafael
  (1:43 PM)

I think his team will sit back and see what happens in JMM-Katsidis in two weeks. He wants the winner and is mandatory.

Jason (San Jose)

PPV prediction?

Dan Rafael
  (1:43 PM)

Well over 1 million. I'm thinking in the 1.3 neighborhood.

Bob (Boston)

Any chance you can snag Lampley or Kellerman to sit in on one of these chats in the future?

Dan Rafael
  (1:44 PM)

Maybe at some point if they are around.

Slickness (CA)

Dan, any quick hits this week? I couldn't find them.

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

No, been a little busy. And honestly with this fight taking over everything in boxing this week there isn't really anything else happening.

JJD (Seattle)

Is Brandon Rios the guy who has beef with Victor Ortiz? Hard not to want to see Victor pound his face after Rios' antics this week.

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

Yes, that's him. Seems like most people want to see Rios get smashed into oblivion.

Ed (Toronto)

Have you seen Rigondeaux around?

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 PM)

Yup. Actually saw him getting coffee in the hotel this morning as I was leaving to come the stadium.

Horn (Vegas)

Considering that Johnson and Green appear to be friends, it's apparent that Green has failed pick up Johnson's professionalism.

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 PM)

Ya think?

Koichi (NYC)

I was at the fight at Prucenter last Saturday and looked around for you but wasn't able to catch you. I did however meet Adamek, very nice guy. Sadam Ali and Mike Perez were also very fan friendly. What'd you think of the card as a whole?

Dan Rafael
  (1:47 PM)

Honestly, it sucked overall. The undercard was horrible. The TV co-feature was a good fight. The main event was not very good, although it got better late.

chuzen (st. louis)

gotta love zab's pick: "i will fight whoever the winner is"

Dan Rafael
  (1:48 PM)

He was at least keepin it real.

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

You know it's a big fight when the chat and my story today are featured on the front page of espn.com!

Devale (Chicago)

Is Allen Green really as bad as his last 2 performances (granted very tough opponents) or were the lights just too bright?

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

I'll use a quote from a former Cowboys coach since I'm in Dallas -- you are what your record says you are.

Ty (Portland, OR)

If Manny wins, do you see him going for a record 9th title at middleweight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

Let him get thru 8 before I have to think about that.

Shawn (Tempe)

For all the talk about how well respected Robert Garcia was coming into this fight, he hasn't carried himself well at all.

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

He has indeed come off poorly.

Joey (Nebraska)

Dan, how about a twitter pic of the scene at the stadium today?

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

Dude where you been? I posted some earlier.

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

Here's a shot from this morning: http://twitpic.com/366a1e

Julio (Panama)

Dano, Do you think a Rematch between Juanma and Rafa is in order. Would make a lot of sense and I think Rafa is willing to go to Puerto Rico. Winner gets gamboa, loser gets Caballero. Cheers

Dan Rafael
  (1:55 PM)

Arum says Lopez's next fight will be in PR. If Rafa and his team are willing to go there I see no reason why that fight could not be made and fairly easily.

Greg (Los Angeles)

If Cloud wins, any chance of him vs Dawson?

Dan Rafael
  (1:57 PM)

That's something that has been brought up and something HBO is interested in but nothing concrete at this point.

Dennis (Pittsburgh)

Bob Arum cannot stop singing the praises of Margacheato. Do you really think Bob Arum believes that Margacheato is a good person or is he just trying to sell the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:58 PM)

I don't know what Bob really believes but I do know he's trying to see a fight.

Jeff (LA)

Dan, will you consider the winner of Bradley/Alexander the true champion at 140 or do you think the winner needs to beat Khan for that recognition?

Dan Rafael
  (1:59 PM)

Needs to fight the Khan-Maidana winner.

Mike (East Palo Alto Cali)

Man, all of you need to wake up...Magarito is just too big...In his last fight, Josha only threw 10 punches and connect with four and the Pac Man was on his toes...The Tornado will deliver in a major way.

Dan Rafael
  (2:00 PM)

I don't agree but it's not an unreasonable position.

David (Houston)

What was up with Lampley working the BAD card last weekend?

Dan Rafael
  (2:02 PM)

Filling in for Bob Papa, who had a West Coast Giants game on radio the next day. So Papa will fill in for Lampley next week on Martinez-Williams 2 while Jim is at his daughter's wedding.

Chris (Nashville)

D-Nice, what are your predictions for the 3 televised undercard fights?

Dan Rafael
  (2:02 PM)

Mike Jones late knockout. Rigondeaux decision. Rios decision.

Power Pellets (Las Vegas )

I don't know what Bob truly believes either but you do have to give the man credit for using agog in the proper context during the press conference.

Dan Rafael
  (2:03 PM)

An excellent point. You cannot take away from Bob's vocabulary. He also used the word "mileau" in my story today.

Floyd Mayweather (County)

Dan, your typing stamina during these chats is unnatural. I demand random blood tests up to 24 hours prior to your next chat, or I won't participate.

evan (venice, ca)

you should know. better venue to watch a fight: Yankee stadium, or cowboys stadium?

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 PM)

Both totally different, both incredible. It's kinda cool to get to do two fights at Cowboys Stadium and one at Yankee Stadium in the span of nine months.

Jose Suliman (Mexico)

I now announce that Cowboys stadium is the Interim Diamond Championship Venue of the World. Can someone please get word to Jerry Jones that he owes me a sanctioning fee.

Bobby (Louisville)

Do you put any legitimacy to the Allan Green protests vs. Johnson? seems ridiculous of them

Dan Rafael
  (2:10 PM)

None whatsoever. It won't go anywhere and he has zero case. It just makes him and his team look as pathetic as most people already think they are.

bubba (ottawa il)

Dan, whats your overall grade on the undercard? On paper of course. I think for top rank its a step up. Thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (2:10 PM)

I give it a B-

Ty (Portland, OR)

Dan the man, Are you looking forward to WWE's old school monday night raw?

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 PM)

I actually am!

Koichi (NYC)

Gonna go grab some halal for lunch, you want some?

Dan Rafael
  (2:13 PM)

No thanks, our audio guy just went out to pick up some tacos for the crew.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Any idea who Mayorga is fighting in Dec?

Dan Rafael
  (2:14 PM)

Not yet.

Leonard Ellerbe (Las Vegas)

I have seen the video of Rios and Margarito and have concluded that there was no video!

Antonio Margacheato (Big D)

Hey Dan, I just wanted the fight freaks to know that when the next negative thing happens to me, it was not my fault. I either didn't know, didn't want to know, it was taken out of context, or it was edited. Nothing negative is ever my fault.

Dan Rafael
  (2:15 PM)

Gotcha big guy. See you at the weigh in.

Mike (Philly, PA)

Hi Dan, I'm a big fan of your work! I wanted to say how extremely disrespectful I thought the Margarito imitation of Freddy Roach's condition was, as well as how stupid Brando Rios made himself look doing the same thing. In my opinion, they didn't just make fun of Freddy, but they made fun of all victims of Parkinson's syndrome, including Muhammad Ali. Margarito should be worshiping the ground that Freddy Roach walks on, he didn't even deserve this fight. I hope Manny Knocks his head into the balcony tomorrow!

Justin (Kentucky)

I read alot on other sites about James Toney. He claims that he still has "it" and wants the Klitschko's bad. Do you think he still has enough in the tank to pull off the upset or is this "James being James"?

Dan Rafael
  (2:16 PM)

James has nothing left to compete with either Klitschko. Period. I know he's a competitor and needs the payday badly but it ain't gonna happen nor should it.

Franklin (Phoenix, AZ)

Dan there is only one computer at my work that has internet access. THere is a line of 12 employees waiting to use, but I am using it for "important research" (i.e. this chat). Freak status?

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

Maybe Freak status but it sounds like your office is pathetic if it only has one computer with internet access.

Ryan (PVD)

Bob's steak and chops in Dallas on Lemmon Ave is one of the best steaks I've ever had if you're looking for a dinner spot.

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

The steakhouse in the fight hotel is tremendous.

Bo (NYC)

Dan, how badly was Roach affected by the recent video from the Cheato camp? Do you think the mental games will have any impact on the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 PM)

Freddie was very angry although he calmed down yesterday and said he got a call from Garcia and accepted his apology.

Brad (Philly)

If Mike Jones wins tomorrow who do you see him fighting next?

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 PM)

Decent chance for the Kell Brook fight for an interim title.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Hey Dan, Have you ever seen a fighter earn the boxing public's respect and lose it as quickly as Brandon Rios?

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 PM)

Hard to recall one.

james (new york)

what is the official weight for the paq-margarito fight? I thought I read somewhere that it was at 151 as opposed to 150

Dan Rafael
  (2:21 PM)

It's 150 max.

Roy (Reno)

Everyone will forget about this Rios incident if he keeps winning and fighting impressively

Dan Rafael
  (2:22 PM)

No they won't.

Liam (Dublin)

What?s your relationship with Bob Arum like at the present time?

Dan Rafael
  (2:24 PM)

Bob and I have had a few scrapes here and there over the years, but generally speaking we've maintained a fine professional relationship. We don't always agree but I respect him and I think he also respects me. It's all good.

Patrick (Mexico)

How bout your relationship with Bob's middle finger, is that pretty solid too?

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley!

John (MD)

Does Molitor signing with Top Rank mean he's up next for Rigondeaux if Rigo wins tomorrow?

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 PM)

No.

Brandon Rios (Oxnard ca)

Ive never heard of the internet or youtube...what is that ?

Brandon Rios (oxnard ca)

I never heard of Dallas before I got the call to be on this card...

TJ (Pittsburgh)

Agree with Bubba. If the Mayweather fight cannot be made, I want to see JMM III. Chances that happens and at what weight??

Dan Rafael
  (2:27 PM)

Long shot I think but if it did, I would imagine in the mid-140s, maybe 144ish.

Matt (Lincoln, NE)

Dan, does Nacho still train JMM?

Dan Rafael
  (2:28 PM)

As far as I know, yes.

Gutterdandy (nyc)

Haye weighed only 210 pounds, which is a bit light for an opponent as big as Audley.

Dan Rafael
  (2:28 PM)

Agreed. I am surprised by that.

Koichi (NYC)

When Haye walks to the ring his entrance music should be the chant from the Mighty Ducks movies: Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack!

Derek (edmonton, alberta)

Is it true that after Suliman had his tantrum and announced his resignation that Don King immediately bellowed out "then I quit too!" ???. Hilarious if true

Dan Rafael
  (2:30 PM)

Pathetic but true.

rick (Corpus Christi, TX)

if Mayweather doesnt man up and fight.Pacman should go back to Welterweight and clean out the division

Dan Rafael
  (2:34 PM)

He should fight the best fight he can get be it welter or over welter.

ROBERTO VEGA (MAZATLAN MEXICO)

IS CHAVEZ JR TRAINING AT WILD CARD GYM?

Dan Rafael
  (2:37 PM)

He is but he is here in Dallas this week working out with Freddie. He and Khan worked out before Manny yesterday.

Duff (Boston, MA)

I am crazy to not want to see Pacman-JMM III? I want Marquez to fight every fight he has left at 135. He is a beast at lightweight.

Dan Rafael
  (2:38 PM)

Maybe so, but the money will be elsewhere.

Sam (LA)

Would you say this is Pacquiao's toughest fight since JMM2?

Dan Rafael
  (2:39 PM)

Has he had one?

Joel (Queens,NY)

What chance do you give Freddy Hernandez on his fight vs Berto?

Dan Rafael
  (2:39 PM)

Very little. Total mismatch. In other words, typical Berto HBO fight.

Al (WI)

After seeing the Margarito/Rios/Garcia, I think Valuev has competition for biggest turd in boxing.

Dan Rafael
  (2:40 PM)

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

can we expect to see Manny sing his own national anthem at some point in the future, possibly with his band?

Dan Rafael
  (2:41 PM)

That would be pretty cool. I love the Filipino anthem.

CHOPPER ( Brooklyn )

So glad you made that definitive statement about James Toney, Dan. I can't believe anyone wants to see Toney get even more lasting damage, and after seeing what Vitali did to Briggs, I'd fear for Toney's life against either Klitschko.

Dan Rafael
  (2:42 PM)

Agreed. Nothing against James, but it's over.

JOSEPH (FRESNO,CA)

WHEN WILL BERTO START FIGHTING SOME REAL OPPONENTS?

Dan Rafael
  (2:43 PM)

According to HBO's Ross Greenburg in our interview a couple of weeks ago in his next HBO fight after Herandnez or he won't be on HBO. I will hold him to it and so should all fans.

Kevin (LA)

Dan, why did Kirkland have to go to a drug rehab center? Did he test positive for something

Dan Rafael
  (2:44 PM)

No, it's the same thing as the halfway house as I understand it.

Alex (Lousiville)

WHY DOES JOSEPH TYPE IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS!!!!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (2:44 PM)

I DONT KNOW!

Igor (Dallas)

Try Fuzzy's Tacos they are the best thing in Arlington right now -better then Pacquiao and Roach combined.

Dan Rafael
  (2:45 PM)

DUDE! That's what our audio just brought back for us! That's what we are all having for lunch here inside the stadium.

mikey o. (san diego)

Dan, who is the biggest celebrity fight fan you've met?

Chris (Dallas, Tx)

is the weigh-in igoing to be inside the stadium on that concourse or outside like in March?

Dan Rafael
  (2:47 PM)

They moved it inside because of the rain. The stage is set up right in front of me where I am doing this chat from.

Beavis (N M)

I AM CORNHOLIO.........

Dan Rafael
  (2:47 PM)

Do you need TP for your bunghole???

Bubba (ottawa il)

OMG, King freak is in big fight mode. I left and went out to grab a bite to eat, stopped by moms and said hello and come back the freaks are still chatting. About a sport thats dead LOL. I love boxing and love big fight weekends baby. Much respect to king freak and all my fellow boxing die hards out there.

Dan Rafael
  (2:48 PM)

It's a big fight Friday. Gotta represent!!

JOSEPH (FRESNO,CA)

CAPS GIVE ME AUTHORITY AND MAKE ME SEEM MORE IMPORTANT THAN I AM.

Dan Rafael
  (2:48 PM)

Actually, it makes you look like an idiot.

Power Pellets (Las Vegas)

I heard Kirkland was found with elevated levels of "stupid" in his system so he went to get it flushed out.

mikey o. (san diego)

Dan, when is boxing bringing back 15 rd fights????????????

Dan Rafael
  (2:49 PM)

It's not.

Roy (Reno)

Seems like all the talk of boycotts has gone out the window as the fight has gotten closer. Arum has done an excellent job of promoting this fight. Big props to him.

Dan Rafael
  (2:51 PM)

The idea of a boycott was stupid from the start.

Kyle (DC)

People keep alluding to Pavlik having a drinking problem and this being the reason he pulled out. Can you elaborate?

Dan Rafael
  (2:51 PM)

There is nothing to allude to. He has one.

Butthead (N M)

Settle down, Beavis!!!

Dan Rafael
  (2:52 PM)

Heh heh heh heh heh heh...

psycho (LaLaLand)

does LeBron James look like a HW champ??

Dan Rafael
  (2:53 PM)

I don't think so but maybe he should take his talents to the heavyweight division and see.

Craig D. (Philly)

Which clip is worse, Mayweather on UStream dissing Manny and all rice eaters everywhere or The 3 Oxnard Stooges mocking of Freddie Roach?

Dan Rafael
  (2:55 PM)

Mayweather.

John (MN)

Dan, We're supposed to get snow up here tomorrow. Is it insensitive to make the wife shovel while I watch the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:55 PM)

Not at all.

NF (Seattle)

Chisora got a suspended sentence, but he doesn't escape punishment...he still has to fight Klitschko

Dan Rafael
  (2:56 PM)

Exactly.

Bad Brad (New Mexico)

You probably have zero interest, but who do you like in the Austin-Solis fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:57 PM)

Solis should win.

bubba (ottawa il)

Dan, I dont argue with the king freak much. But you really think this fight will do over a mil in ppv buys? I mean there are prolly alot of people who said they wouldnt get it and now are (like me). But i would be shocked if this fight did more then 750,000 buys. But who knows, its gonna be a big one though.

Dan Rafael
  (2:57 PM)

The fight will easily surpass the Clottey fight. EASILY.

Joey (Chicago)

The fight freaks keep beating the drum for a regular 30-minute boxing show on ESPN2. Please keep up the fight for a regular show.

Tony (Tampa)

Dan,What's Margarito's purse on this fight? $8mill? If so not bad for a guy who should have been banned for life from the sport.

Dan Rafael
  (2:57 PM)

$3 mil guarantee but with the ppv he'll earn likely more than double.

Ryan (PVD)

Dan, would you consider putting your score for each round on your Monday scorecard, so we can see how you view each round?

Dan Rafael
  (2:59 PM)

It won't be in the scorecard but I will be scoring rd by rd on Saturday night. The scores will be on our Fight Credential page as well as on ESPN's Bottom Line and my Twitter.

Dan Rafael
  (3:00 PM)

We have breaking news from the Bat Email.

Dan Rafael
  (3:01 PM)

Just got an email with a copy of the doctor's note with the results of Sergio Martinez's official seven-day weight check for next week's fight with Williams. He was 166 pounds today, which is within the range he is supposed to be.

DDP (DDP's desk)

Danimal, when and how to boxers get paid their guarantee...with a check right after the fight from the commission?

Dan Rafael
  (3:02 PM)

Yes unless they make some sort of other arragement.

Andrew (Louisville)

I have to admit, when this fight was signed I couldn't have cared less. Now that it is upon us, I'm pretty excited. I credit HBO's terrific 24/7 series.

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

I wasn't always a Manny fan (maybe due to the bad hair styles - frosted tips, bowl cuts, etc.), but the more I watch the guy, the more I appreciate him. He never has a letdown, always fights big fights, and seems to just be a great dude. I don't know another fighter that has lived up to the hype as much as he has (Ali, maybe)

Cory (TN)

Dan,Is Mayweather vs. Pacman the biggest fight in boxing history?

Dan Rafael
  (3:04 PM)

If it happens, it will be at least in terms of revenue.

Wilco Fadario (China)

My name is Wilco Fadario. I like to look at ostriches. They are cute. The end.

Dan Rafael
  (3:05 PM)

These are my readers.

Manny (Riverisde,CA)

166 wow...that is impressive. i hope Martinez is not weight drained for the fight

Dan Rafael
  (3:05 PM)

He'll be fine.

Justin (Kentucky)

Who has more upside: David Lemeiux or Danny Garcia?

Dan Rafael
  (3:07 PM)

I would say Lemieux, although Garcia is also a good prospect.

Chris C (Washington DC)

Hey dan, on a very hungover friday morning at work you just made my day for taking my question. I follow the chats every week and it feels great to finally get in one ! Thanks and keep up the great work

Dan Rafael
  (3:07 PM)

Go take a Tylenol.

Allan Green (the mat)

The door that hit me on the way out caught me behind he head ref!

Dan Rafael
  (3:08 PM)

Legendary.

leo (charlotte)

do you think mayweather jr is going to watch the ppv tomorrow

Dan Rafael
  (3:08 PM)

Yup.

Isai (OKC)

When can we expect Allan Green on FNF again?

Dan Rafael
  (3:08 PM)

Why would you inflict that on us?

Cody (Minneapolis)

I think everyone on the chat should celebrate that Jon Schorley is nowhere near this fight

Dan Rafael
  (3:09 PM)

He has an undercard fight on the PPV.

Dan Rafael
  (3:11 PM)

Here are the officials for the TV fights:Pacquiao-Margarito: ref-Laurence Cole; judges-Jurgen Langos, Glen Crocker, Oren Schellenburger. Jones-Soto-Karass: ref-Rafael Ramos, judges-Levi Martinez, Sergio Caiz, Gale Van Hoy. Rigondeaux-Cordoba: ref-Jon Schoerle, judges-Raul Caiz Sr., Ruben Garcia, Nelson Vazquez. Rios-Lowther:ref-Raul Caiz Jr.. Judges: Erwin Sparks, Jesse Reyes, Charles Phillips.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Hey Dan, Wasn't it a bit odd that Glenn Johnson was hugging Allan Green after the knockout for like 5 minutes? Even before he went back to his corner or a doctor could look at him.

Dan Rafael
  (3:12 PM)

That was a little weird. I noticed that right away when I watched the fight.

Mike (Virginia)

You ever see that big Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach?

Dan Rafael
  (3:14 PM)

Yes. Not all that excited.

Steve (NYC)

Will Chris Arreloa be in a significant fight this year?

Dan Rafael
  (3:14 PM)

He won't fight until early next year and when he does, it won't be a significant fight.

Kevin (San Diego)

Dan, do you know if the fight will be played in movie thaters tomorrow?

Dan Rafael
  (3:15 PM)

No, Top Rank doesn't do that. GB fights on PPV are in the theaters. This fight isn't.

Roberto (Miami, FL)

Dan, do you think that with another world title win whilst in the Super Six Glen Johnson would = HOF?

Dan Rafael
  (3:16 PM)

I'm not going to make a decision about that until he is retired. Right now he is not a HOFer. That could change.

Andrew (Louisville)

Matthysse certainly didn't get "robbed" but it is certainly reasonable to have him winning that fight. I had him winning rounds 3 & 4. Judah never really landed anything significant and I thought Matthysse landed some nice body shots early.

Dan Rafael
  (3:18 PM)

Exacty. Not a robbery at all. Close fight.

Isai (OKC)

Dan Rafael vs Jose Sulaiman - has a nice ring to it.

Dan Rafael
  (3:18 PM)

For a small sanctioning fee, of course.

Devale (Chicago)

What did you and Arum have for dinner and was it tasty? the freaks like details

Dan Rafael
  (3:20 PM)

It was Top Rank's media dinner. All the press, Top Rank folks, HBO people, Roach and others from the camps. Just a nice relaxing time to catch up with people. Italian place in the hotel. Pretty good. I happened to be seated across from Bob so he, me and few other writers had some good conversations and debates.

Dan Rafael
  (3:20 PM)

Brian Kenny has entered the building!

Joel Julio (???)

What, more than a half hour in and no mention of me? Come on dad!

Dan Rafael
  (3:21 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

Chris D. (Chicago)

Seems like a lot of people are counting on Marquez beating Katsidis, but I don't see it that way. If Katsidis wins, is there any chance he wins the Pacquiao sweepstakes or is he still too unknown to mainstream fans?

Dan Rafael
  (3:22 PM)

Katsidis has no shot to get the Pacman fight. Not big money and he's with Golden Boy.

Julio (Panama)

DTM.. Paul Williams' people keep talking about how they couldnt get Pacquiao in the ring. DO they really think that was going to happen?

Dan Rafael
  (3:22 PM)

They are delusional, which is their right.

robb (amherst, ma)

are we gonna get any pics from ringside? also, how big is press row for a fight like this?

Dan Rafael
  (3:25 PM)

There are hundreds of credentialed media but not all will be seated ringside. I'll take a pic tomorrow night from my seat.

Chris (San Diego)

Was Pacquiao and Margarito at the dinner as well?

Dan Rafael
  (3:26 PM)

No, there were not.

Andre Dirrel (Space)

I need my attorney here before I comment on this weekend's fight.

Dan Rafael
  (3:26 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley!!! LOL!

Jerry (Raleigh)

Dan, who is a bigger fighter internationally ? Wladimir Klitschko or Manny Pacquaio?

Dan Rafael
  (3:29 PM)

Pacquaiao for sure. Klitschko in Germany and Europe obviously, but worldwide, Pacman.

JP (L.A., CA.)

Dan, who do you like to sit with when you attend a fight? Iole? Mannix? Pugmire? Morales?

Dan Rafael
  (3:29 PM)

I sit with all those guys. My boys.

John (Phoenix)

Tell Brian I love his radio show, but it would be nice to see him try and force more boxing talk. Maybe a "Mandatory 8 count" with 8 minutes of boxing talk.

Dan Rafael
  (3:30 PM)

He is reading this over my shoulder. He likes your title.

Dan Rafael
  (3:30 PM)

Freaks, give me a few minutes. I'm going to tape a segment with Brian that will be on SportsCenter in a little bit and then I'll be back to chat a little more. So hang tight.

Dan Rafael
  (3:39 PM)

I'm back.

Dan Rafael
  (3:39 PM)

Just knocked out a segment with Brian. Probably will air during the next hour or SportsCenter.

David Haye (UK)

quack quack quack, quack quack quack quack quack?

Isai (OKC)

The BK and Rafe Show - Weekly Boxing 30 minute show!

Dan Rafael
  (3:40 PM)

Love the idea. We would have a blast and kick some butt.

Justin (St. Louis)

when is the weigh in? which ESPN channel is it on?

Dan Rafael
  (3:41 PM)

ESPN -- as in main network during the 6 pm ET SportsCenter.

Gene (Denver)

Brian and Dan talking boxing weekly!?!?! sign me as well as all the freaks up for that!

Matt (portland)

Tecate deal infohttp://tecate.com/nationalTerms.html

Alex (Louisville)

DTM, My buddy and I are getting the PPV. We can't agree on wings vs. nachos. Any advice?

Dan Rafael
  (3:43 PM)

I gotta say wings.

Roberto (Miami, FL)

Big ups to you D-Rizzy...I sent you that Glen Johnson question at least an hour ago and you still got to it in the midst of all that's going on around you. Gangsta.

Dan Rafael
  (3:43 PM)

I'm a FREAK!

Rob (New York)

BK'S Prediction please!

Dan Rafael
  (3:43 PM)

Just asked Brian. He says Manny KO9.

Aaron (Hartford)

Any opponent yet for Paulie ?

Tim (Florida)

Brian Kenny is a great boxing commentator. ESPN should use him a lot more.

JS (LA)

predictions -everybody! manny KO4

Manny (Riverisde,CA)

Manny brutal KO8

Devale (Chicago)

Wings and nachos fool!!!

Joe (San Francisco, CA)

Let's assume Floyd wouldn't come on the Kenny and Rafe show

Dan Rafael
  (3:45 PM)

LOL!

Cody (Tucson)

Pretty epic chat today i keep going elsewhere and coming back and your still chatting....Big Fight =Big Chat

Dan Rafael
  (3:46 PM)

You know it. Besides I am stuck at the stadium with nothing to do anyway between TV hits, so I am just hanging with the Freaks!

Gmoney (Brooklyn, NY)

More likely to happen, Jeter joining the Bosox or Floyd fighting Manny

Dan Rafael
  (3:46 PM)

Floyd fighting Manny.

robb (amherst, ma)

pac UD12 margarito. a clear, but competitive, win.

Rob (Melville, NY)

Margarito retires on his stool after 10. Pac will be teeing off on him from Rd4 on to the point people will be calling for an stoppage after 8.

Vinod (NYC)

Margarito TKO10

Dan Rafael
  (3:47 PM)

Congrats. You are the only Freak I have seen pick Margarito.

John (Phoenix)

Margarito KO8. I think 8 oz gloves will be the key here.

Dan Rafael
  (3:47 PM)

And that's two.

Alex (Louisville)

Manny 118-110 UD

mike (las vegas)

Margarito TKO in the 10th

Rudy (Bakersfield)

Brian has one thing over Manny, he has gotten Floyd to go at it with him!

Dan Rafael
  (3:48 PM)

Nice.

Craig D. (Philly)

Pacman TKO 6

Joe (NJ)

Pac KO6. and Audley KO5

Greg (Armonk, NY)

One thing has become crystal clear - Floyd needs Manny a whole lot more than Manny needs Floyd

Dan Rafael
  (3:49 PM)

Based on the public sentiment, you are right.

Shawn (Tempe)

Manny TKO10

Alex (Louisville)

Ducker KO3

Graham (San Diego)

I think floyd needs a good lawyer more than he needs Manny at this point!

Dan Rafael
  (3:50 PM)

A very astute point.

Ryan (Glastonbury, CT)

Manny 117-108. Gets knocked down early, drops Margarito twice late but can't finish it.

Darren (Taylor)

Pretty sick that Haye - Harrison is on sky ppv, yet pacquiao is normal broadcast. Im gonna save my money and watch a real megafight.

evan (venice, ca)

ref stops it in the 9th. -a manny beatdown.

Chris (Vancouver BC)

Cheato TKO11.

Chris (San Diego)

Controversial draw!

Dan Rafael
  (3:52 PM)

You just ruined my day.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (Las Vegas, NV)

Margarito KO1... I hope... so I don't have to fight Manny

Junior (Tipp City)

Is Victor Ortiz in Dallas? Can't wait to see him clean out 140lbs, then Rios.

Dan Rafael
  (3:53 PM)

I havent seen him and I doubt he is here. He has a fight coming up.

Jason (San Diego)

Holy crap! You're still here???

Dan Rafael
  (3:55 PM)

As opposed to being where?

Ruben (Houston)

If Manny can't get Floyd, we will settle for a BK vs Floyd rematch!

Steven (Savannah, GA)

Just heard David Rodela got injured in a car accident? TRUE or False?

Dan Rafael
  (3:55 PM)

True, his fight with Molina is off. Just got the release from Golden Boy. He is the top part of it: Due to a minor injuries sustained in a recent car accident, Oxnard's "Dangerous" David Rodela has been forced to withdraw from his Thursday, November 18 bout against Norwalk's Carlos Molina at L.A. LIVE's Club Nokia. Stepping in for Rodela to face the unbeaten Molina will be Puerto Rico's John Figueroa.

Everardo (Los Angeles)

Margarito KO's Manny with a body shot in the 5th.

chris (boston)

i was here for the start of the chat, went to lunch, went to class, came back, and still going strong. bow before the king freak

Dan Rafael
  (3:56 PM)

Kiss the ring.

Dan Rafael
  (3:57 PM)

The purse is what the fighter negotiates with the promoter. The Canadian PPV total is part of the overall total. For this fight the official ppv number is buys in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Taylor (SLC, UT)

Hey Dan, I find this Allen Green crap pretty funny. The ABC set the standard a little over a year ago when they stated the rule of thumb for an illegal shot to the back of the head is when any part of the glove does NOT touch any part of the ear...and guess what, I reviewed the tape, and every shot touched the ear. Sorry Allen, man up...no more excuses!

Dan Rafael
  (3:58 PM)

Like I said earlier, Green has no case at all.

Bill (Jacksonville, Florida)

Who is the best American Heavyweight, currently? Who has potential in the future?

Dan Rafael
  (4:00 PM)

Best would indicate a field from which to select.

Luke (White)

What's up as far as mandatories for the winner of Harrison/Haye?

Dan Rafael
  (4:00 PM)

Chagaev.

Manny (Florida)

I always wondered if your SC segments are off the cuff or do you guys read from a script?

Dan Rafael
  (4:01 PM)

No script. Brian and I and the producer discuss what we want to cover and then we do it. No script.

Mitch (Oakland, CA)

No outlet for Canelo-N'Dou?

Dan Rafael
  (4:02 PM)

Richard Schaefer has said the fight will be on US TV but no annoucement yet.

MJ (Chicago)

How were those tacos that were brought to you?

Dan Rafael
  (4:03 PM)

Outstanding. Shoutout to Fuzzy's in Arlington.

Roberto (Miami, FL)

Out of curiosity, what's the all-time longest chat you've had here dan?

Dan Rafael
  (4:03 PM)

I did like 5:30 or so a couple of times.

Scott (Minneapolis)

Safe drinking game for tomorrow - tequila shot for each round Margarito wins

Dan Rafael
  (4:04 PM)

Depends if you want a buzz or not.

@stonemclean (Canada)

Epic chat Dan. With this "free agent" talk, Is SSM unhappy with GBP or is he just trying to get a big fight? I saw him RT some disparaging things about DLH leading up to the Mora fight.

Dan Rafael
  (4:05 PM)

I think he's trolling for a big fight. He doesn't have many paydays left.

Paul B (NY, NY)

Wow- just got back from a 2 hr meeting and you are still rocking. What is your secret? PEDS? Drinking your own urine? Extra padding in your typing hand? Thanks for providing me with late afternoon reading!

Dan Rafael
  (4:06 PM)

He's the sick thing -- I'm doing this chat in a suit!

Shawn (Tempe)

Not a safe drinking game - Shot for every time Lamps says BANG!

Dan Rafael
  (4:08 PM)

Brian and me are talking smack.

b rice (seattle)

what did you think about Morales' fight with Limond?

Dan Rafael
  (4:08 PM)

Good fight. Morales looked bad the first few rounds and then cleaned up.

Graham (San Diego)

D$, do you think the people on Vegas Boxing commission are kicking themselves for not giving Margarito his license? They had to of taken some heat for not bringing that money to Vegas.

Dan Rafael
  (4:09 PM)

Had they licensed Margarito the fight would have been in Vegas 100 percent.

Richard (Oxford UK)

Dan, have you bumped into the col. Bob Sheridan in Dallas yet??

Dan Rafael
  (4:09 PM)

Of course. We hung out for a bit and caught up in the media center yesterday and I helped him out with some of his research as he was preparing notes for his international telecast.

JS (LA)

this chat is so long, a chilean miner just logged in.

Jorge (Mexico)

Any celebrity citings?

Dan Rafael
  (4:10 PM)

Does Brian Kenny count?

Gil (NYC)

BK is not a celebrity he is an icon

Dan Rafael
  (4:11 PM)

Brian liked that. He said if you are on Twitter he will follow you.

JB (Toronto)

Col Bob and Benny Ricardo would have made great wrestling managers in the 80s.

Dan Rafael
  (4:11 PM)

Hilarious.

TMI ( )

No here's the really sick thing -- I'm doing this chat in my underwear!

Dan Rafael
  (4:11 PM)

Lovely.

Greg (Armonk, NY)

While I was watching 60 minutes on Sunday with the Manny feature, I was picturing Floyd steaming.

Dan Rafael
  (4:12 PM)

I found it interesting that Mayweather's name was not mentioned once on the segment.

Dan Rafael
  (4:14 PM)

Ines Sainz has entered the building and is on the stage.

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

BK's hairline is iconic in it's own right. You're not so bad yourself, Dan. I've got a hairline in recess.

Dan Rafael
  (4:14 PM)

An interim harline in recess? Or a super emeritus hairline?

Rob (New York)

Random question for BK. Is Jay Harris a fight fan? He seemed pretty excited about fight news during round 1 of Mayweather/Pacquiao negotiations.

Dan Rafael
  (4:15 PM)

BK says he's a fan, not hard core, but a fan.

Keith H (Seattle)

The best thing about a hairline in recess is no sanctioning fee. And less spent on shampoo.

Teddy Atlas (Atlanta)

Brian Kenny is not an icon he's a Demigod!

Dan Rafael
  (4:16 PM)

His head is growing as we speak.

Ron Katz (Bronx, NY)

Ok, its official, your sicker than Sabu for chatting this long.

Dan Rafael
  (4:17 PM)

The only thing sicker would be to chat surrounded by barbed wire!

Craig D. (Philly)

A. What is Inez wearing?2. Are all the men there throwing things in her direction?Thank You.

Dan Rafael
  (4:18 PM)

She is dressed in all black outfit and getting ready for the weigh in stuff she is doing for Top Rank.

Dave (Rochester, NY)

Dan, could you ask BK his favorite fight of all time?

Dan Rafael
  (4:18 PM)

He likes Ali-Frazier 1.

willie (arizona)

how long till the weigh in??

Dan Rafael
  (4:20 PM)

About two hours.

Gmoney (Brooklyn, NY)

Jimmy Superfly Snuka vs Undertaker...who wins

Dan Rafael
  (4:21 PM)

I love em both. But gotta go with Undertaker.

Ned (Hartford)

Rip on Hartford all that you want, but according to the rules, we don't even have to buy any beer to get the rebate from Tecate! Hartford 1 - World 1,438,975

brianna (arizona)

do you think margarito will make weight?

Dan Rafael
  (4:23 PM)

Yes.

rob (newcastle, uk)

yo dan, any chance margarito will try and box smart and just jab away at manny? or is that a stupid question

Dan Rafael
  (4:23 PM)

He has never ever ever ever done that and isn't about to change.

Koichi (NYC)

Taker faced Snuka at one of his earlier Wrestlemanias didn't he?

Dan Rafael
  (4:24 PM)

Yes and got crushed at WrestleMania 7 I believe.

Alex (Louisville)

Dan, you don't like Louisville either and we don't have to buy the Tecate!

Dan Rafael
  (4:25 PM)

I like Louisville fine. I covered a fight there once when Tyson fought Williams.

Ian (Pembroke Pines, FL)

Zab's quote on your latest blog is legendary. LOL

Karl (Orlando, Fl)

Who does Margarito fight next if he wins?

Dan Rafael
  (4:26 PM)

I would think either a Cotto rematch or a Pacquiao rematch.

robb (amherst, ma)

a week in hartford or klitschko-ibragimov on repeat?

Dan Rafael
  (4:27 PM)

A month in Hartford.

Mondo ((Cali))

Do you know if Larry Merchant will be on the mic tomorrow?

Dan Rafael
  (4:28 PM)

No, Max is on this fight.

Dan Rafael
  (4:28 PM)

Awesome -- the woman singing the Filipino anthem is practicing right now over the PA system. Love it. Place it filling up with folks for the weight in. I'm getting pumped!

jaff (NYC, NY)

what exactly does margarito's strategy need to be to pull out a victory, and what mistakes would manny have to make to let that happen?

Dan Rafael
  (4:31 PM)

Pressure, pressure, pressure. Uppercuts and make Manny fight off the ropes. If Manny gets pinned on the ropes that is a problem.

Craig D. (Philly)

Will the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders be the ring card girls for the fight? Mamma Mia.

Dan Rafael
  (4:33 PM)

They were last time to sing the American national anthem.

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

i was watching Manny's greatest hits package on HBO, and what struck me was how much he commits to his power shots. He's not trying to just land shots, he throws everything with authority. I think this has helped him in carrying his power up in the higher divisions.

Dan Rafael
  (4:34 PM)

That is a great observation and I agree with you.

Rui (Nutley, NJ)

Where is Omar Henry?

Dan Rafael
  (4:35 PM)

Who?

Alec (Nashville)

Do you thing Margarito will throw more punches than the 16 that Clottey threw?

Dan Rafael
  (4:37 PM)

No question about it.

Slickness (CA)

Are you going to the JCC jr PPV in Anaheim?

Dan Rafael
  (4:37 PM)

No.

Roy (Reno)

Dan you truly are the chat king! I am PUMPED!

Dan Rafael
  (4:39 PM)

Whatever you think of the fight and whether Margarito deserves the fight -- and you all know my feelings on it -- there is no question this us a huge event. I feel electricity in the stadium now just in preparation for the weigh in.

evan (venice)

i have to know: Digital scale or the old fashioned type with the little weight they slide across???

Dan Rafael
  (4:41 PM)

Digital scale is set up on the stage.

Steve (Minneapolis)

Do you know what the various ticket prices are for different seating areas?

Dan Rafael
  (4:42 PM)

Tops is $700, low I believe is $50.

Ryan (PVD)

Do the fighters have the offical scale available for use, prior to the offical weigh in to see where they stand?

Dan Rafael
  (4:43 PM)

They have a scale if they want to see what they weigh before the official weigh in.

David (Houston)

I dont guess Wade Phillips will be in the house tomorrow? LOL

Dan Rafael
  (4:43 PM)

Maybe only if he's an usher or selling beer.

Jay (Houston, TX)

Predictions for Pac's weight today? I say 148

Dan Rafael
  (4:44 PM)

I agree and Margs right on 150.

Jim Lampley (Wedding)

Rafael is a chatting machine! The extra weight added by that suit has done nothing to slow him down. Bang Bang Bang Bang he's furiously pounding away at the keyboard! BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!(bang)

Wade Phillips (Dallas)

Any Jerry Jones sighting?

Dan Rafael
  (4:46 PM)

Not yet.

Randy Rhea (Tennessee)

Have you gotten any of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders phone number or numbers yet?

Dan Rafael
  (4:46 PM)

What happens in Dallas stays in Dallas.

Ryan (PVD)

Oh yeah...Just got the email: Tonight at 9:30PM: Watch the 24/7: Pacquiao Margarito Finale

Dan Rafael
  (4:46 PM)

I go the same one but get this -- no HBO in the hotel! I am told I can watch it on HBO.com tomorrow morning.

Ron Mckenzie (Cincinnati)

Epic chat! I just left a 1 1/2 hour meeting and the King Freak is still going! Much respect.

Dan Rafael
  (4:47 PM)

And we ain't done yet!

Joe (DFW)

Is the weigh in free or must you have tickets

Dan Rafael
  (4:47 PM)

Free.

chuzen (st. louis)

chats are the only reasons freaks go to work on fridays

Dan Rafael
  (4:48 PM)

Nice.

chuzen (st. louis)

since you arent going to the Top Rank PPV, how about a RAD on that night?

Dan Rafael
  (4:48 PM)

Very good possibility.

Kid Moreno (Jupiter)

Gamboa's next opponent?

Dan Rafael
  (4:50 PM)

Arum mentioned maybe trying to make Caballero next if he wins on Nov. 27. He told me that he has discussed money for the fight with HBO and HBO tells me they have also talked about the fight, although they are off on the money right now.

Dave (Rochester, NY)

Dan, did you check out Manny on Kimmel?

Dan Rafael
  (4:51 PM)

Of course, it was legendary. ABC repeats the episode tonight if you missed.

Steve (Minneapolis)

Do you think glove size will change some predictions from any of the experts?

Dan Rafael
  (4:52 PM)

I doubt it.

Daniel (Wilmington,Ca)

isn't Gamboa supposed to fight Chris John next?

Dan Rafael
  (4:53 PM)

That's what the WBA would like but that does not mean it will happen.

Dan Rafael
  (4:54 PM)

Music is pumping here, lots of activity, lots of press, cameras, guys on stage testing weight, Inez, anthem practice, chatting. This is awesome.

Dan Rafael
  (4:55 PM)

And we have a little Word Up by Camero blasting. Gotta admit -- Love this song.

Gil (NYC)

Just got a pat on the back for staying late at work from my boss ... If he only knew I'm just doing my freak duty

Dan Rafael
  (4:55 PM)

I'm happy to help.

Dan Rafael
  (4:56 PM)

Arum and Jerry are pulling into the stadium.

Dan Rafael
  (4:56 PM)

By the way -- Nelly will perform his new song before the ring walks tomorrow and also give us a little "It's Getting Hot in Here" as well. Gonna be tremendous atmosphere.

Dan Rafael
  (4:57 PM)

All Freaks should be here right now. Tremendous and it's only the pre-weigh in stuff!

Jason (Atlanta)

Any update on a new location/venue for the Bantamweight tournament?

Dan Rafael
  (4:57 PM)

Nothing set but looks like Ontario, Calif., arena.

Dan Rafael
  (4:58 PM)

Bob Arum has entered the building!

Dan Rafael
  (4:59 PM)

Kieren Mulvaney says hello to all the Freaks. He has arrived.

jessie (la)

Dan, could you ask Miss Inez if I could get her phone #, please?

Dan Rafael
  (5:00 PM)

Yeah, I'll get right on that.

Alex (Utah)

Has shaw found his dog yet?

Dan Rafael
  (5:01 PM)

No Perro sightings yet.

Dan Rafael
  (5:01 PM)

Now we have a little Black Eyed Peas pumping.

Gmoney (Brooklyn, NY)

WORD UPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (5:02 PM)

Exactly.

ryan (manila, philippines)

I am so lovin your chat! people here are excited for fight night, well fight morning here in PHP. Manny late round stoppage... not unless floyd flies in from the rooftop in a parachute!

Leonard Ellerbe (Nowhere)

What are you all talking about? This fight isn't happening.

Dan Rafael
  (5:02 PM)

Freaks we have reached the five-hour mark of an epic, all-time chat!

juke (saratoga springs)

not counting "belts"... how many legit titles does manny have? Fly, feather, junior welter?

Dan Rafael
  (5:05 PM)

He was lineal at 112, 126, 130 and 140. He won a 122 belt vs the No. 1 or 2 guy. His 135 is a cherry picked title. He won the 147 belt against a very strong opponent but not lineal. And if he wins hi 154 it's a bit of a cherry picked title that was vacant, but still impressive at the heavier weight.

Dan Rafael
  (5:05 PM)

Now we have some Lady Gaga balsting. Not sure if I am at Cowboys Stadium or the Rouge nightclub at the MGM.

Dan Rafael
  (5:06 PM)

Todd duBoef has entered the building and just by to say hello.

Erik (atlanta, ga)

My Dan Rafael Bobblehead continues to bobbles when all my other ESPN writers chats have stop bobbling!

Dan Rafael
  (5:06 PM)

There a lot of fans in here in the back in the roped off area. They've been chanting.

Anthony (Sacramento )

Dan I gotta get in on this chat! Hope ully this question will pass the king freaks test: Which is your favorite Pacman fight of all time?

Dan Rafael
  (5:07 PM)

There are several, but I love first and second Morales fights and the two JMM fights.

Dan Rafael
  (5:08 PM)

Former 154 titleholder Raul Marquez is in the house and just stopped by the say hello.

Dan Rafael
  (5:08 PM)

Crowd going crazy right now and chanting "Manny, Manny, Manny!"

Dan Rafael
  (5:10 PM)

I just took a shot of the crowd here and tweeted it so check out my Twitter @danrafaelespn

Editor In Chief (Bristol)

Dan you are not only a FREAK, but a BEAST FREAK! I dont think there can be a greater sports honor bestowed on a man...

Dan Rafael
  (5:10 PM)

Wow, I like that -- BEAST FREAK.

Erik (atlanta, ga)

Compare this to some of the all time scenes you've been to D$$$ how does it rank so far?

Dan Rafael
  (5:11 PM)

It's not quite at that level yet. Nothing will be like the Mayweather-Hatton or Pacman-Hatton weigh ins. Or Mayweather-Oscar.

Sausalito (San Fran, CA)

It's cute how excited you get

Dan Rafael
  (5:11 PM)

Isn't it?

juke (saratoga springs)

a few beers at Parting Glass while reading chat on laptop... my wife expected me home at 4pm... several beers later... wife's wondering when I'll be home... how long is this chat going???

Dan Rafael
  (5:11 PM)

Nice. Parting Glass my old haunt. Memories. Had my first drink with my wife there.

Gmoney (Brooklyn, NY)

Break out the cowbell Dan da Man

Dan Rafael
  (5:13 PM)

We need more cow bell!!

Roy (Reno)

How much do you think Jones offers to host Pac-Money if it ever happens? He has to be thrilled with the response.

Dan Rafael
  (5:14 PM)

Well the site fee for this fight is $6 million. That fight would be at least $30 million.

Dan Rafael
  (5:15 PM)

I have so much energy for this chat. Maybe it was that drink JM Marquez gave me!

Sausalito (SF, CA)

Have you even stopped yet to go to the potty?

Dan Rafael
  (5:16 PM)

No!!

Dan Rafael
  (5:16 PM)

Rocky music playing!

Keith H (Seattle)

The King has the ONLY current live chat on espn.com.

Dan Rafael
  (5:16 PM)

I have slayed them all!

Jon (NY)

Will you be able to tell if Cheato looks weight-drained?

Dan Rafael
  (5:17 PM)

You can tell. You see enough fighters weigh in and you can tell. If he looks like a potato chip it means he's drained.

Chico (Patterson, ca)

ok seriously I want you tested before the next chat.

Dan Rafael
  (5:18 PM)

Fine but I demand a 7-day cutoff.

Rui (Nutley, NJ)

Is this the chat record?

Dan Rafael
  (5:18 PM)

I think we're getting there.

Dex (Pomona, CA)

How's the event feels like now? Does it have the "Big Event" buzz/feel?

Dan Rafael
  (5:19 PM)

Definitely big event feel. You know why? It is a big event when Pacquiao fights.

David (Houston)

Damn i cant wait till tomorrow! Even this chat is pumping me up! lol

Richard (Oxford UK)

What would your reaction be if Manny's ring walk tomorrow was 'war machine'???

Dan Rafael
  (5:19 PM)

I'd probably pass out as my head exploded.

Dan Rafael
  (5:21 PM)

By the way, the weigh in is also on ESPN.com's main boxing page now. The link is right by my chat link if you can't watch on SportsCenter. The coverage on the site will be more complete I believe.

Sean (NJ)

I'm now leaving work and going home, the chat has outlasted my work day

Ronak (NY)

Are your fingers loaded?

Dan Rafael
  (5:21 PM)

No, but they are actually getting a little sore.

Dan Rafael
  (5:22 PM)

Ross Greenburg has entered the building and is on stage with Arum.

JASON (NY)

is the atmosphere bigger than mayweather-mosley?

Dan Rafael
  (5:23 PM)

Different because this stadium is so much different than the MGM. But both great.

Dan Rafael
  (5:23 PM)

Soto-Karrass has entered the building and is going to the stage.

Jay (Houston, TX)

Just pointing out that the live feed is already running on ESPN.com so you can watch who's coming and going and follow along with the chat at the same time.

Roy (Reno)

Dan, I have never listened to War Machine just put it on Youtube in your honor, song is sweet, but the still pics of the band are cracking me up.

Dan Rafael
  (5:24 PM)

Watch the live version from Rio 1983.

George (Fontana, CA)

I dont hear much emphasis on Mike Jones v Soto-Karrass but I think this fight will be the best of the undercards

Dan Rafael
  (5:25 PM)

Good test for Jones. We'll find out how real he is.

Shane (Selah, WA)

Is teh weigh in televised anywhere? Can't find it on HBO.

Dan Rafael
  (5:25 PM)

You may have heard of ESPN?

Dan Rafael
  (5:27 PM)

Now we have some Chili Peppers blasting.

David (Houston)

Were you at the Clottey weigh in earlier this year? I remember looking for you but didnt see you. If so how did that compare to the atmosphere today?

Dan Rafael
  (5:27 PM)

I was there. That was outside and not like this one.

Francisco (Austin)

Dan, If Jones pays $6 million for the site fee how does he get a return on his investment. Do Top Rank and him split the ticket sales?

Dan Rafael
  (5:27 PM)

He gets his money out of the gate before Top Rank shares the overage of $6 million. They also have split on the concessions and parking.

Sneaky Pete (Brooklyn)

I'm looking at espn.com and don't see the live feed. Can another freak post a link?

Dan Rafael
  (5:28 PM)

Look on the boxing page. It's there under the main photo.

Justin (Seattle)

DTM, just sneering at other ESPN chats, knowing they stand no chance.

Dan Rafael
  (5:29 PM)

How dare they challenge me with their primitive skills.

Dan Rafael
  (5:30 PM)

Arum is welcoming everyone.

Dan Rafael
  (5:30 PM)

About 30 minutes until the main event weighs in. Undercard going to weigh now. Lupe Contreras doing the undercard.

Dr. J (Dallas)

Edju (Salisbury, MA)

Rafael vs Simmons at CHATAMANIA I - I'd pay $50 on PPV for that

Dan Rafael
  (5:31 PM)

I'd blow him out.

evan (venice, ca)

this chat is so long, the laptop i started on is now obsolete. apple just replaced it.

John (San Fran)

Dan Rafael
  (5:32 PM)

I don't see any around.

Dan Rafael
  (5:33 PM)

Mike Lee -- 175 1/4 pounds.

Dan Rafael
  (5:33 PM)

Keith Debow - 172 1/4 pounds

Dan Rafael
  (5:35 PM)

Brian and I will be live on SportsCenter shortly after 6 pm ET from the weigh in.

Dan Rafael
  (5:35 PM)

Brandon Rios is weighing and being badly booed.

Dan Rafael
  (5:35 PM)

Rios is 140 1/4

Dan Rafael
  (5:36 PM)

I didn't hear Lowther's weight. I thought Lupe said like 139.

Dan Rafael
  (5:36 PM)

Lowther and Rios had to be separated on stage.

Shawn (Tempe)

Rios getting booed! love it

robb (amherst, ma)

no issue that lee was over the light-heavy limit?

Dan Rafael
  (5:37 PM)

No, it's not a title fight, there was a little leeway.

Dan Rafael
  (5:37 PM)

Ricardo Cordoba weighs 121 pounds.

Dan Rafael
  (5:38 PM)

Rigondeaux weighs 121 1/2 pounds.

Richard (Oxford UK)

Cordoba looked really drained to me. Valid assessment?

Dan Rafael
  (5:39 PM)

Agreed.

Kevin (Commerce, CA)

Rios is coming off like such a punk!

Dr. J (Dallas)

137 1/2 for Lowther

Dan Rafael
  (5:40 PM)

There ya go.

Jr (Bay Area)

You know you can make weight when you wear bling on the scale.

Dan Rafael
  (5:40 PM)

Exactly!

Dan Rafael
  (5:40 PM)

Jesus Soto-Karras weighs 148 pounds.

Dan Rafael
  (5:41 PM)

Mike Jones weighs 145 1/5

Ryan (Michigan)

Jones looks like a beast.

John (San Fran)

Mike Jones is a tank!

John (Phoenix)

Congrats Dan, you just beat the record for your longest chat to my knowledge.

Dan Rafael
  (5:41 PM)

Child's play.

Tommy (Detroit)

Dan, where are you in relation to the stage??

Dan Rafael
  (5:42 PM)

Looking at the stage it is in front of me to my right.

Ty (Walnut, CA)

How many more sets of fighters left before Pac Man and Margarito?

Dan Rafael
  (5:45 PM)

They are doing some of the other off tv fighters. I missed a couple because I got a phone call. The main event at approx 6:10-6:15 pm ET.

Jr (Bay Area)

Who is the guy with the ugly football jersey??

Dan Rafael
  (5:46 PM)

It's Carl Moretti from Top Rank. It's a half Cowboys and half Notre Dame jersey, his two favorite teams.

Jon (NYC)

My shift ended 40 minutes ago. I started this chat at lunch. I am wilting under the bright lights like Alan Green!

chuzen (st. louis)

there are chats and there are chats. and then there are dan rafael chats.

Dr. J (Dallas)

D$, you think Cheato gets boos like Rios?

Dan Rafael
  (5:47 PM)

Good question. Will be interesting.

Roy (Reno)

This is amazing! I feel like I am at the weigh in...you have to let the folks at ESPN know we appreciate this!

Dan Rafael
  (5:48 PM)

I'm glad. I'm trying to give you a real feel for what it is like.

Dan Rafael
  (5:49 PM)

OK, Freaks, I would love to go for six hours but I have to cut it short and get ready for the television segment on SportsCenter. Producer is calling me. Awesome, epic chat. Hope you all enjoy the fight tomorrow and you can read all about it on ESPN.com of course. Peace and talk to you next week from Atlantic City, where I will be covering Martinez-Williams II. Peace.
