Hello all, thanks for coming. Let's get this party started.
whats the odds of vince young playing this sunday vs miami
Very good. I'll be surprised if he does not play.
Can you tell me the difference between a player being waived and released? Why would a team choose to do one over the other?
It's a matter of how many years experience you have. Often the terms are used interchangeably. After trade deadline, no matter how much experience you have, you go on waivers.
What was the reason for signing the new DT this week? It appears he is a little undersized. I'm asking that because I would expect it if he was 6'4" 330 but 6'2"290 is not a hole plugger.
There are no 6-4, 330 DTs who can play sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring. This is their ninth defensive lineman. They felt he was a slight upgrade and if Tony Brown's knee acts up, he could come into play.
I don't know either... next question...
It was a nice job you did evading the question. I've said I didn't handle it great. I certainly didn't go silent. And I'd still like you to answer on what we can expect effort-wise.
The Titans now have 2 starting receivers who run deep routes, so who is going to step up and get those 3rd down intermediate catches? Someone needs to step up as the possession receiver.
They run deep routes, but they don't only run deep routes.
You better tell Cushing to "overtrain" again because his performance or lack-there-of has really been pedestrian since his return
He had been disappointing. Maybe now, back on strongside, he can have a second-half impact. They need it.
I haven't heard anything from VY regarding the acquisition of Moss. Anything to this?
He had a quote last week along with a bunch of guys -- team-gathered stuff when players weren't available. And Young is probably getting set to talk right now.
1. Where will you be at 12:01 on November 16?2. Will you ever forgive me "Queen of the Supermarket"?
Since I've heard the whole thing, I will probably wait until the next morning. Al is forgiven. Always.
Which are you more optimistic the league will fix in the offseason, rules around pass completion or defenseless/helmet to helmet hits?
Pass completion.
Is R Moss to TEN a positive move in your opinion?
I think it's worth a try at the cost, which is just salary. They didn't have to give anything up to get him. He's better than anyone they've had. Why wouldn't they try it?
How big of a game is it gonna be when the Titans and the Colts meet for the first time in Nashville on Sunday night? It's crazy they're meeting for the first time week 14...
Should be great, but they both have a lot of work between now and then.
Why did u give randy moss so much hell wednesday?? whats your deal?
How did I give him hell? Mike Reinfeldt said it's reasonable to wonder what kind of bearing it would have on the team if he dogs it. If the GM thinks it's a fair question, how is it giving him hell? A lot of you guys are practically offering Moss secret service-level protection. I don't get why he can't be asked about something on his resume.
You coming down to Jacksonville for the game this weekend?
Switched off to Moss debut. Probably biggest story of the week not just in the division but the league.
What's your opinion on Arian Foster's touchdown catch that was reviewed and ruled incomplete? Former VP of Officiating Mike Pereira seemed to think that it was a touchdown because he caught the ball and then made a football move before crossing the plane with the ball. Just curious on what your take is.
I thought it was sad that Foster talked in detail about how he didn't know the rule. It may be dumb, but he should know what happened with Calvin Johnson and be conscious of finishing the catch the way they want you to. Leave no doubt.
What do you think of me and my new fellow starter Courtney Greene? Are we gonna be able to slow down Houston and improve our team's terrible pass defense?
I'm not so sure you are long-term solutions.
so.... mr kuharsky... am i only gunna get on the field as a slot receiver?
I hope you're fourth and only get in when Moss, Washington or Williams is tired.
Is it safe to say the loser of the Jags vs. Texans game on Sunday won't make the playoffs? Or is it too early to predict that?
Awfully hard to climb over two teams to get into second and wild card contention from 4-5, I think.
With the proverbial clown car of injuries on offense that Peyton Manning and the Colts are having to deal with so far this season. How could anyone not vote for Manning to get another MVP? Is any other QB doing more with less than him right now? Agree or no?
Rivers is in a similar situation, plus his special teams has been handing away games.
In your opinion, what are the odds that Randy Moss plays on the Titans next year?
Very low.
Not saying the AFC South will get 2 teams in playoffs (if so, its Indy and Tenn), but after last week are you still so sure the Patriots are a playoff team? The game at Foxborough in a couple weeks will say a lot about that I think.
I think New England is a playoff team, yes. One game doesn't undo their resume.
If the Giants continue to win, and defeat teams such as Philly and Green Bay, will you consider them the best team in the NFC?
Depends on what Atlanta and Green Bay do.
Hey PK, you gonna come and try some steak at my new steakhouse in the ATX?
I LOVE Austin. If I am there, I'd come. But it's not on my destination list anytime soon.
Whoa there Pete. Rivers ahead of yours truly for MVP? Seriously?
I said he's dealing with a similar situation.
Are any of my Jaguars going to make it into the Pro-Bowl?
Josh Scobee should.
Do you feel a bit burned for being singled out for being the one reporter who attempted to act like a reporter?
I feel fine about everything. I was working on a column which I felt came out well and my boss liked. If those four questions were four softballs, how would the collective media be being reviewed today?
Should I go after Jason Allen? I mean he can only help our secondary, right?
I don't see how he wouldn't help you or Rick Smith.
Do you think that Collie, Garcon and Tamme would do well on a team with an average QB or just Peyton Manning make these guys shine (when they are healthy).
Good question. I think they'd be OK. Not great. What if you took Tennessee's receivers and put them with Manning? I think they'd all be better, sure.
Do you think that the addition of Moss will help our secondary by going against a HOF receiver in practice all week instead of the medicore WR's that they are used to practicing against?
Myth: Starters work against starters during a practice week. Moss will be working mostly against Ryan Mouton and Pete Ittersagen, not Finnegan and Verner and McCourty. First team versus first team is mostly a training camp thing. Now it's first-team offense versus a scout team and first-team defense against a scout team.
Have you any inside information about Bob Sanders recovery?
Tons. But I've been withholding it until someone asks the right question.
Would Wade Phillips work as Defensive Coordinator for the Texans? Phillips is got to be an upgrade from Bush.
Well, he did work in Denver, so he's got that going for him....
If Mike Vick stays healthy: 1. Will he be in the MVP talk at the end of the year 2. Will the Eagles be a Super Bowl contender?
Maybe and probably.
You had Babin as your mid season Titans MVP. Was Tulloch ever in the disscusion?
Next tier, i suppose. I'd go Babin, Griffin, Young, Johnson. Then a second tier.
I am better than scobee sorry dude PK
Scobee hasn't missed a kick this year. Including preseason. C'mon, give some credit.
Personal Foul on Paul Kuharsky, withholding information on Bob Sanders. 15 yard penalty, automatic first down!
Was kidding, Chief.
Pete Kuharsky, recently I suffered a major headache. What does Pete reach for when the headache pain is just too intense?
Crown.
I recall that the Colts had the worst run defense in the NFL the year they went to the Super Bowl. They managed to turn it around in time to make a run in the playoffs. Do you think the Texans are capable of that kind of turnaround with their pass defense this season or are they toast?
I don't see what happens to turn the Texans' pass defense around this year. Unless they can trade for games against Seattle, Arizona, etc.
You just devalued my legacy Paul... The reason manning throws 33 instead of 49TD passes is because they replaced me a french waiter bum. Jerry Rice would tell you the same about Rick Gannon Joe Montana and Steve Young... sorry dude but we work hand in hand great QB great recievers
I agree. But Manning makes a lot of guys better. You and Reggie Helped make Manning and he helped make you. Beyond that, the next tier of guys, he's helping them more than they are helping him, I believe.
Pete, what kind of effort should we expect from you for the rest of this chat?
You'll get nothing less than a complete effort from me, all the time. There's a line you might have considered yesterday. As our pal Nate said on Facebook, tell me another player in the league who doesn't say: "I give 100 percent every play, no questions."
With stafford most likely done for the season, is it time for the Leos to pursue a QB in the draft?
It's just brutal for him, because he's really good. I don't think you draft again yet,. unless the medical reports are really bad. A better defense will help him.
IS GERRARD BETTER THAN YOUNG
Some days.
heard palmer & ochocinco didn't practice today. as bad as palmer's been this year, should i be rooting for him to play sunday? or is jr. palmer going to be a serious downgrade? does it matter?
The backup Palmer is definitely worse.
How did you think Randy would answer that question? No offense or anything, but that was a pretty expected Randy response. You indirectly put him down. Would you ask Big Ben how his lady life is going?
Just because you might know what a guy will say to a question doesn't mean it gets crossed off your list. If I do a column about Moss' effort, am I not obligated to try to let Moss have a voice in it? Let me answer for you. Yes, I am.
Who's secondary is worse? Ours or the Jags?
Yours.
Scobee, thats it? What about Knighton, Jones-Drew, Kampman?
Maybe Knighton, but he's not going to win a fan vote piece. Maybe Kampman. No way Jones-Drew. Look at Foster and CJ compared to him on TDs.
So, Santa's probably not bringing me an autographed Randy Moss Titans jersey?
Nothing changed on that from yesterday. That's like a lump of coal.
Will Ocho Cinco and TO again be inviting people to St. Elmo's for free meals before the game this week? I want some free steak.
Me too.
Which AFC South injury impacted a team most?
I think it'll wind up being DeMeco Ryans. Colts have survived loss of Melvin Bullitt and Dallas Clark better than we could have imagined, so far.
Crown? That nasty blended canadian stuff? Son whisky comes from Kentucky... and who the heck is Pete?
I like Canada. Manning called me Pete once to help Wycheck show off his clout.
Paul, I thought the new-look Titans O-Line was pretty horrible against the Steelers and, in places, Giants. If you agree, have you seen any signs of improvement?
They aren't as good as they were last year. Don't know why but I don't think it's simply the Mawae departure.
Pete, Why does it seem you aren't too highly regarded among your peers? I read many posts/articles stating that normally you never shut up but then you froze up with Moss coming back at you. They seemed very pleased with the situation.
Did you listen to it? I didn't freeze up. I responded. I was being measured. If I said "I expect you to run hard every play and block in the run game, but your history suggests you won't thus the question" you might be happier with me. But it wouldn't have been professional or prudent. Name names, who's down on me? I'm comfortable with my standing among my peers. Several of them are my closest friends.
Hey Paul. Just wondering on your opinion on this. Do I wait until Manning is retired before I build a defense based on todays NFL standards or do we try to build one now and risk hurting Manning's and our chances of ever making it back to the Super Bowl with what we currently have on defense?
I think you probably retire at the same time.
Read your column about another Colt catching 10 plus passes this season would be a record. Why can't it be me instead of Garcon (once I can lift my arm above my shoulder of coarse)? If you recall, I caught 10 passes in a game last year.
It's a great point, Joe. Sorry. You know I love your game and feel you should be rated more highly. Garcon's caught 10 too -- in the AFC Championship Game.
Collie goes down, flag comes in late, says he was defenseless receiver because it was an incomplete pass. I can't figure out why Reid didn't challenge that. If he challenges the completed pass, and it's overturned, then the hit is no longer on a "defenseless receiver", it's a legal (and scary) hit on a ball carrier. No penalty, PLUS his team recovers a fumble. What was he thinking?
The penalty washes it away anyway. And he had no timeouts left, therefore could not challenge. But he wouldn't have, because the penalty took any Eagles gain from the play away.
Chief, don't forget my annual Christmas list wish: To move to LA. Cmon man, the Jags will move there eventually...
I would never be home with those flights.
Is it safe to say that every white receiver or te that has a good game for the colts automatically becomes the greatest? I mean Tamme played well, but if he was so good, they would have found a way to get him on the field in the last 2 years, no?
Ahead of who?
I've heard mixed reports on why the Colts used James at the GL instead of Brown. Some claimed Brown was winded, but it sure looked like James was proficient in that area, when Brown seemingly has struggled in previous games in that situation.
I'm confident they used him there for one reason: They think he's better there.
When can you decide if Jared Cook is a bust or not?
Halfway into next year.
You are to be commended for your patience with stupid questions. Some of these I'da cussed out.
Well thank you.
Bigger Story... Randy flops and gets cut in week 11.... or Randy dominates and the Titans win the division?
Both giant.
Pete is right, folks. He is very helpful. He once helped me design a Trekkie costume that won me first place!
Gotta use that to get it in the permanent record.
Is the Zac Brown Band good enough to make you stop on a country station while you're searching for something to listen to?
I've never stopped on a country station.
What do you think of my performance so far this season?
Not as good as expected.
Any word on how severe Britt's hammie is and how long he'll be out?
Have heard anything from four to eight weeks. Big range.
I've got a nice, green cap I've knitted for you, and one for your friend Mr. Moss.
Cool. Send them on over.
Where's Jenny Dell!?
Don't know where she was last week. Is she missing again? I try to link to her on Saturdays, so I haven't looked yet.
What position do you think that the Titans are most looking for in next years draft?
Ed? Are you still here, Ed?
Sometimes I wish I could show up at sportswriter's jobs and ask them questions to try to provoke them in hopes they get pissed off so I can make them look bad.
Call me on the radio and give it a shot.
Should we be cautious with all of a sudden assuming Vince is going to be airing the ball out a whole lot just because Moss is in the mix?
Yes. There is timing, familiarity, route precision, arc, pace, coverage, rush and numerous other factors that go into it. This doesn't mean automatic deep ball home runs every series.
What's Jeff Fisher's game plan look like on Saturday?
Shockingly, he does not share it with me.
Personal Foul on Ben, Uneccessary Draft Talk before end of season, 5 yard penalty, repeat second down.
Who do you like covering better so far me or Moss, after he told you what was up?
I find Moss a joy compared to you. I have no real issue with Moss. I asked, he answered as he saw fit. I want candid and real. Seemed real to me. People struggle with the idea that this stuff isn't personal, but it is not.
Mr Kuharsky as an espn analyst is it in your contract that you must not share with your audience who your favorite team is? Shows great discipline not representin your favorite team in the position you're in. Good Job!
I don't have a favorite team. It's like asking you what your favorite file is at work. I bet you want all the files to be interesting, but you're obligated to treat them the same. My rooting interests are in baseball and soccer. I've covered the NFL since 1996. It's not hard not to have a favorite, I swear.
What do you think is the biggest difference in Matt Schaub's performance this year vs. 2009? How much do you think AJ's injury factors in?
Well I think his play-caller is making things hard by not maximizing Foster and letting him play off of that. I would think he's missed Shanahan more than we expected, too.
Is Tamme awkward or the most awkward TE in the NFL? I like the guy, but he looks like a newborn calf trying to run for the first time when he gets the ball.
You want the fourth tight end to not only produce like he's Dallas Clark, but to move like him too? Demanding.
Are you on AM frequency?
Nashville 104.5 FM, 8 CT on Tuesdays and Fridays, 7 CT on Thursdays. Web at 1045thezone.com.
More dangerous D-line: Jags or Houston?
Top to bottom, I'm going to say Jacksonville.
Paul - In watching CJ this year get into the open field (on a few plays) it just doesn't appear that he is as quick/fast as he was last year? Do you have any others saying the same type of thing? Is there any truth to it?
I thin his hesitancy is part of the struggles. I also think we're overrating the struggles. He's on pace for 1,400 yards and 16 touchdowns, I believe.
Chad Pennington starting; good for the Titans? Bad? Doesn't much matter?
Less threatening deep, so that's good. Less likely to make a big mistake, so that's bad.
I'm in Nashville this week. Wanna grab a beer after the chat?
Can you send a resume and references?
Nothing but record gives Manning the MVP over Rivers. Should he be penalized because his special teams puts him in huge holes every week? He's clearly outplayed Manning
I think Rivers has a strong case right now. But I do think the MVP should be from a playoff team unless he's just outrageously better than playoff people.
On average, how many questions get submitted to you during these chats? 100? 300?
We're in the 260s right now.
If not a favorite team, do you have any player (or players) that you particularly enjoy watching play, for whatever reason?
Sure. There are players and coaches you like to see do well and there are players and coaches you may not be as pleased to do well. I don't want anyone hurt, but I wasn't all torn up when Pacman landed on IR. On the 1995 Raiders, Pat Swilling and Albert Lewis were exceptionally nice on a bad media team. I was never unhappy to see them make plays.
Did Randy start things off right in Nashville by putting you in your place. Will you dare ask him another effort question?
If he jogs off the line in Miami, I'll ask him about it Sunday, yes.
Whoa... it wasn't personal with Pac? Are you suggesting it never go personal with Pac?
Extreme example. Yeah, he got personal for a lot of us.
264?
282.
Any particular reason why you don't see Moss back in Nashville next season? That many teams passed first time, why not again?
He'll want a lot of money. They won't want to pay it.
How does the new " Me " look to you ?
I couldn't pick the old you or the new you out of a lineup. Paltrow looked nice.
Let's you and I hit South Beach this Sat night and I'll show you some "effort".
Sounds lovely. I think that's the third question from Moss. I made a deal to cap it there.
You report, but you're still a human being. Ever find it difficult to write a balanced story if a player/coach/gm has made it personal for you?
I'm in a position now where I write opinion/ analysis/ commentary. So it's not really an issue. As strictly a reporter, that was a challenge late with Pacman, I guess.
Whats worse...answering questions about Moss or answering questions from Moss?
I'm on the fence there.
Any comment on my performance this season? Am I a future pro-bowler?
You're good, heading to very good.
Why are all of these folks happy about how Randy Moss asked the effort question? Was it a total burn on you, sure. But as a Titans fan, I would really like to know if he does plan to give 100% each time? Will he run off the line, will his block for CJ, etc. I thought it was a fair question.
I appreciate that.
Which do you prefer... blogging or strictly reporting?
Not too many jobs out there better for me than this one.
Man, I have missed chat. I have to stop missing these for work. Educational and entertaining all in one.
Unacceptable.
Well folks, that was fun. I really appreciate you coming by. To the Louisville dude that offered the beer, thanks, but I can't tonight. Enjoy your time in Nashvegas. See you all next week I hope...
When you answer a question in chat with a question do you feel you can relate to Randy Moss... is there a bond forming between you two?
Do you think there is a bond forming between us?
What's the question count up to now?
You were 318.
