Chat with Bryan Broaddus

Bill (NYC)

Brian, you've been looking at the tape. How on earth do you stop Calvin 'Megatron' Johnson?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:33 AM)

Good morning guys...thanks for popping on with me today...have about 45 minutes then Coach Garrett has called us to the practice field. Bill in NYC you have the first questions about Calvin Johnson...the only thing that might stop him in this game is his QB Shaun Hill. If Matthew Stafford was playing this would be tough on the Cowboys. In the games I saw of Hill, he doesn't throw the ball down the field...Johnson is a beast and talking to the corners on this team they know that.

Dustin (NC)

Why do some writers say that if Luck is on the board when the Cowboys daft, the cowboys should draft him? We already have a franchise QB, and will for the next 5 years. Drafting him, will hurt the spots on this team that could use a first round draft pick, like the secondary. QB is not a need on this team.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:36 AM)

I am a big fan of Luck...those types don't come around very often...it all depends on what this team feels about Romo but you will also need one of the top two picks or the ability to trade up...I will say this...those guys are hard to pass on...

Russell (Moreno Valley)

Jimmy Johnson was more of a manger and motivator than a coach.Do you see Garrett in the same mold.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:37 AM)

I want to see Garrett's whole body of work...he is the same guy that everyone wanted to fire before the season even started and 8 games into this season. There are some outstanding coaches that are out there as well...but lets just give it some time.

aryn (DC)

Bryan, I noticed Victor Butler getting more snaps on Sunday. Whats the deal with Brandon Williams? Will he ever get on the field or is his knee still bothering him?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:38 AM)

Victor Butler is just a better player than Brandon Williams it's as simple as that. When he goes into the games, things seem to happen.

J. Williams (On board a US NAVY SHIP)

Who on this current Cowboys roster (offense and defense) do you think has no shot at being on the team next year? I say Barber and Sensabaugh are likely candidates.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:40 AM)

First off, thanks for your service for the country...anyone of the OL other than Free has a chance. Can't see Spears back either...watch what happens at receiver as well.

Josh (PA)

McCann had a couple great plays in last Sunday's game. Does he look like he could be a potential player down the road or was it just a good game from an average player? There has to be some reason he couldn't make two different 53-man rosters out of training camp.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:42 AM)

McCann can continue to make plays. I was there during training camp and all he did was compete against the best of the receivers that he could go up against...he didn't make this roster because the front office thought it was more important to keep players that couldn'nt play.

Sonny (Chicago)

I was wondering how Witten will fear vs Lions? I have Brees, Charles, Hillis, Bowe, and Marshall as my everyday fantasy starters, so no backups for them? But I have Gates, Tamme, and Witten loaded for my TE spots, should I start Witten?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:44 AM)

I always start Witten...

DH (Israel)

How did that same O-line that hasn't been able to pass block all season do such a good job against the Giants? If you tell me that it's all just "attitude and approach" then they should all be fired for dogging it all season till now.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:46 AM)

The problems that the OL has struggled with all season just didn't go away. The biggest problems have been with Davis and Gurode and they actually played well. When they struggle, its because they get over extended and can't adjust in space, no such problems on Sunday against the Giants.

Mike (Chicago)

I had the Cowboys losing by 24 last week, wow they played better then most thought. I was wondering why they played so good. Could it be that Wade didn't let the players have fun? Fun wins games, seems like the players saw the new coach as a fun coach and went out and won, do you think that?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:48 AM)

The players just did a better job of handling their assignments and carrying out the game plan...thought that Pasqualoni did a wonderful job of calling defenses. The fact that they were able to build a lead really took the Giants away from running the ball which helped a ton.

Brandon (NYC)

What are the most glaring deficiencies the cows need to address in the draft?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:49 AM)

OL, safety, DL, LB and Kicker.

Trent (Dallas)

What would you say about the chances of the Cowboys taking a quarterback high in the draft next year? I like (not love) Romo but it seems that having a quarterback to groom that we believe in (not McGee clearly) should be a high priority.

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:51 AM)

I worked for a man in Green Bay that always took a QB in every draft...if I was an GM, I would always do the same. You never know when you are going to find the next great one...just ask New England...

Cody (Crowley)

Will Kosier and Davis be on this team next year?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:51 AM)

I would say Kosier has a better chance than Davis...

Jason steward (fort worth, texas)

what are the chances tashard choice and Felix Jones becomes the 2 running backs that add spunk? do you think if we picked up Jeff Reed it would help us in the long run?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:53 AM)

I need to ask about Jeff Reed and I will but I have given up on Choice playing unless the GM comes out and tells Garrett to play him.

nate k. (sioux falls)

do think they need a new field kicker

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:53 AM)

I have since Mini Camp...

Steve Vandermeer (michigan)

Hey Brian, just wondering what your opinion is on Jerry conducting interviews with some big name coaches at end of season regardless of how Jason does with this team?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:54 AM)

I think that Jerry will look at the whole picture and see what he really needs to do coaching wise, good or bad for Garrett. There are some guys that are very interested in this job.

carlos (dallas)

Which O-line dont you see returning for next year? I think Free has been the best lineman this year what do u think

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:55 AM)

You can scout Carlos...Free has been the best linemen by far, they need four more just like him in the next draft.

Shooter McSwaggin (from South Cak)

Thanks again for all your insight Brian. With Dallas likely picking in the top half of the first round next year. Do you see them targeting either Patrick Peterson or Prince Amukamara? Both seem like big time DBs and would immediately upgrade Dallas' secondary. Or do you see them holding off and taking a guy like Deandre McDaniel in the 2nd?

Bryan Broaddus
  (11:58 AM)

I went to school at LSU so I have a feel for Peterson...they need some corners and safeties out of this next draft...how high they select one will be interesting...plan to get started on the draft after this season.

Josh (Dallas)

Do you think expectations were to high for Anthony Spencer this season? What will it take to get him over that hump from regular contributor to playmaker status

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:00 PM)

Anthony Spencer finally played like the player that we saw last half of the season in 2009. I thought he was going to be a dominate player in 2010 and so did many in the front office. I am surprised that he has played this poorly until last week.

David Kirk (Belfast, N.I.)

Can you see scenario where MBIII is released before the beginning of next season (If there is a CBA agreement. I personally think Tashard Choice should be given more carries and a 1-2 punch of TC & FJ would benefit the Cowboys in the long run.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:02 PM)

I could see Barber out of here before next season...yes...and I could see this team drafting another running back to take his spot.

brian (guelph)

Does Marc Columbo and L Davis make the team next year?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:03 PM)

Colombo has played his rear off the last two weeks against quality rushers...if he goes...would not be surprised but I do feel like Davis will be gone.

BigFoot (Sierra Nevada Mnts.)

Do you think T. New should sit out and heal a couple games? He looks off his game and maybe McCann and Jenkins would work?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:05 PM)

T New is banged up but he has a lot of pride, if he can walk, he will go...I am proud to be a part of the staff that brought him here...

HAWK LAREDO, TX [via mobile]

Chances that the Dallas Cowboys go undefeated with Jason Garrett?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:06 PM)

no chance...needs to win against LIONS, CARDS and REDSKINS....others will be tough to pull off...

Bill (NYC)

Bryan - what does your analysis tell you about Suh and how our o-line will be able to (or not) handle him?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:08 PM)

Suh is an outstanding player and with Corey Williams inside play with a great deal of power. The quickness of Suh against Davis will be interesting to watch but also watch Kyle Vanden Bosch as well off the edge, Free will need to have his A - game.

Pete (Evanston, IL)

The Lions haven't won on the road since October 2007. The Cowboys have never won at (this) home. Which streak falls on Sunday?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:09 PM)

Like the Cowboys at home but if Matthew Stafford was playing, this would be a lot tighter...I don't think Shaun Hill gets it done.

Lamont (Las Vegas)

At the end of the season if Sporano is fired from Miami I think the cowboys should go after DC Mike Nolan. IT seems he has turned that defense around and they have less talent than the cowboys. What are your thoughts?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:11 PM)

Whomever the new coach is whether its Garrett or others...Mike Nolan is a name you always have to consider if he is on the street...if Garrett is the coach...it's Pasqualoni's job.

JS Cowboy (NY)

Hello Bryan....Looking at Pasqualoni's rush scheme, it looks like he is going with 4 guys the majority of the time. Does that put an emphasis on the Defensive Ends getting more pressure on the quaterback than they were used to under Phillips? If they stick with this, do they need to look for DE's with better rush skills? Thanks

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:13 PM)

I counted 25 times where Pasqualoni played zone coverage...you would never see that from Phillips...Pasqualoni attacks you a different way...

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:15 PM)

Hey guys...Coach Garrett has called us to the field...thanks for allowing me to visit with you today...sorry I can't get to all the questions...enjoy the day and continue to follow us on ESPN Dallas.com or me on twitter @bryanbroaddus...
