Thanks for being here. Been waiting to talk about UFC 123 for weeks! I'm gonna clean out a few questions that are already in the queue and then I'll start taking questions live at 1:00.
JON!!!! You tell us after every mma live episode not to txt and drive and i see you TWEETING and driving shame on you!!! I feel Penn looks really good at 170 what are your thoughts?
You must've misread the tweet. That was Kurt Pellegrino's tweet. I was just giving him a hard time. As for Penn at 170, it really depends on his preparation and the opponent. I do expect we'll see a much better B.J. than we saw in the 2 fights w/ Frankie Edgar.
Its the most wonderful time....of the week!!
Appreciate that, brother.
Been a while. Think BJ will move to welterweight fulltime if he can beat Hughes?
Good to have you back. I don't think so. I think Penn is content to bounce back and forth b/w 155 and 170 and will take the biggest fights offered him.
I think the fact that the Hughes v Penn fight is only 3 rounds gives B.J. a big advantage. Your thoughts?
I think there is some truth to that. I think the fight will largely depend on what kind of shape Hughes is in. Matt wanted to take the rest of the year off after the submission win over Ricardo Almeida.
Chost, I was disappointed by Marquardt... thought he'd be more aggressive in rd3. Do you think Okami has a shot against Silva?
I, too, thought Marquardt needed to exhibit much more of a sense of urgency down the stretch. But I don't want to take any credit away from Yushin Okami. I took a lot of grief in here and at ESPN for picking Okami. And all of the fighters I spoke to picked Marquardt.
Rather see live and/or cover it: spider/gsp or pacman/mayweather?
Wow is that a difficult question. I'm reluctant to give an answer, but didn't want to dodge it. My first instinct is to say Pacquiao-Mayweather b/c of the sheer volume of great cards the UFC puts on. Boxing only has 1-2 big fights/year.
What do you feel are the key steps needed to increase the mainstream acceptance of mma?
There are several. We need to continue the education process and continue to expose new fans to high-level MMA. I also think we need to explore ways to lessen the amount of blood, such as eliminating elbows on the ground. It doesn't help with mainstream acceptance when the canvas is covered in blood before the PPV even starts. I also think getting MMA regulated in New York would be huge. But strides have been made. Hope you all caught B.J. Penn on SportsCenter this morning.
Hey guys, Do you think kneebars should be banned from MMA? They look very brutal and could lead to career-ending injuries. But on the other hand it's one of the most popular submissions and some of the best fighters in the UFC like Pallhares had a lot of success from it.
Hey Emilio, I think kneebars are okay. Sure, they are dangerous. But rarely are they actually executed in MMA. And, when you are fighting a guy like Palhares, you just have to prepare for that.
Everyone has been saying it's pretty inevitable Okami vs Silva, however I like Belforts chances against Silva and think Belfort is going to pull off an upset. How do you see the Silva Belfort fight going?
I think the long layoff could hurt Vitor Belfort. He has barely been in the cage over the last 2 years and rust is not a good thing when you are facing Anderson Silva. I also think Silva is gonna want to make a huge statement after nearly losing to Chael Sonnen. Just think it is the wrong time to be facing Anderson Silva. We'll see.
Why is my kenny so cute?
Who do you think Diego Sanchez will fight next? I'd like to see him fight diaz that would be a crazy non stop action for 3 rounds
Wouldn't have a problem with that.
UFC 122...ZZZ...ok, onto UFC 123
I saw Bj being interviewed this morning on sportscenter! I'm glad espn has our backs cause we got yours.
Hahahaha. Appreciate that. It's great to see SportsCenter give love to all of the UFC PPVs these days. There has been a huge uptick in coverage ever since MMA Live hit ESPN2.
How about a shout out on next weeks show if my Colts beat the Pats
I'll give you your props in the chat room if it happens. That'll have to do, Ruben.
Hey Jon! Huge, huge fan! Keep up the great work. For UFC 123, what are your picks, and secondly, do you predict any upsets? I believe Penn's the favorite on most sites, however I'm going with Hughes...
Here are the picks for UFC 123: Rampage in an upset, Hughes in an upset, George Sotiropoulos, Phil Davis and Gerald Harris. I was surprised that B.J. Penn was a nearly 2-1 favorite. I checked in with an oddsmaker this morning. He opened his line at -120 and says all of the money is coming in on B.J. Penn. Cannot wait for this main card Saturday night.
Alright, taking live questions now.
Picks for UFC 123? I like Rampage, Hughes, Harris, Davis, and Lauzon
We are close. A Lauzon win wouldn't shock me.
J-Chost,Can you please explain to me how in the world Oscipcheck (Or however you spell it) had one jusge score the fight 30-27 in his favor? Disgusting judging.
Not a card goes by without at least one crazy judge scorecard. Osipczak didn't want to be in there by the end of the fight. No way he won more than one round.
I sure hope we do not get the dazed and confused BJ we have seen in past fights, loses to Frankie, GSP and Hughes in the past. I need to see the BJ VS Diego, PENN. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be on your game BJ.
I agree, James. B.J. was in full-fledged fight mode this morning on SC. Very serious. Hopefully, he'll be focused and determined and put on a great show.
Machida will make Rampage look like a fool. Boring fight but Rampage won't touch him.
That is the analysis in most of the commentary I am reading. Rampage is definitely stubborn. He could certainly become frustrated and struggle to find his rhythm. But I have big expectations for Rampage this weekend. Y'all know how highly I think of Machida. It'll take Rampage's best to beat Lyoto.
Who is the better prospect on the 123 card? Harris or Davis?
With all due respect to my boy Gerald Harris, I think the ceiling may be a notch higher for Phil Davis. But not by much. Either way, really happy to see them both on the main card.
Are you influenced by Twitter as much as Dana White?
There is no way I spend as much time on Twitter as Dana does. But I do try to get back to the fans as much as possible. I respond to nearly every question or comment that is sent my way. So try me- @Jon_Anik. I think it's a great way to communicate and really bridges the gap b/w fighters, promoters, media and fans.
What's up with Nate Marquardt? Where is the vicious and attacking Nate of old? Do you think there's any truth to the Greg Jackson mentality "allegations" by Dana White?
I didn't have a problem with what Dana White said. Too often Greg Jackson's fighters are too conservative. I understand prioritizing winning over entertaining, but when you lose, it leaves the fighters and the camp open to criticism. Most experts thought Marquardt would take advantage of what was his 2nd #1 contender's bout of the year. Unfortunately, he came up empty.
Yo Jon ima tell you one time foo , Your so big on cain what happens if he faced lesnar again and lesnar gets chest on chest and doesn't rush...
I think Brock would only beat Cain 2 out of 10 times. Lesnar will assuredly learn from the loss to Velasquez. But I still think there is a huge discrepancy in striking ability and technique. Brock isn't fluid at all. And, we saw what happened when he took Velasquez down. Couldn't keep him there.
How disappointing would it be if Jonathan Brookins couldn't fight in the UFC because of his Bellator contract?
Disappointing. But I expect all of that to be resolved. Really awesome to see how Brookins is taking advantage of the great coaching he is receiving from Georges St. Pierre and his team. Talk about coachable.
You actually posted that message from "Mr T"?!
I am an equal opportunity poster.
Where do you get some of these people in the chat?
That is a great question, Evan. You should see what I don't post.
Jon , what's your take on the Huge Country contract dispute and the fact he may never fight for the UFC again?
I think it'll work itself out and we will see Roy Nelson in the Octagon again.
After hearing Faber talk about training Brock, do you think Lesnar would actually take him up on his offer?
No. But I do think the focus of Lesnar's next training camp will be on sparring and getting hit in the face. Otherwise, he'll run into the same problem again. I also offered up my services to Lesnar on our UFC 121 Post-Fight Extra. I figure Brock would rather get hit in the face by me than Urijah Faber.
Hey Jon! Winnner of Machida/Rampage gets the winner of Franklin/Griffin; who then fights the winner of Evans/Rua??
I still believe if Rampage wins, he will definitely get a title shot. I also believe Machida would be deserving with a win over Rampage. Jon Jones could get a title shot if he beats Ryan Bader. As Dana White has said, the light heavyweight division is set up for a number of huge fights.
Do you have a problem with how long Mizugaki was out? That look dangerous to you?
Certainly not ideal to see that. But the angle was such that it made a difficult for the referee to see what was going on. But you bring up a good point. Not what we are looking for when continuing the push of MMA to the mainstream.
Which fight are you most looking forward to on the 123 undercard?
Mark Munoz-Aaron Simpson. Both guys are very talented and both should be in desperation mode.
Is the Log Jam in the UFC LHW division a good thing, or a bad thing?
It's a good thing. Would be an even better thing if certain guys were willing to fight one another.
After seeing what Pacquiao did to Margarito, I get the feeling that Mayweather is less likely to fight him now. What do you think?
Mayweather certainly isn't more likely to fight him after what we saw Saturday night. Unbelievable to see Pacquiao do that to a big welterweight. Back when I covered Pacquiao, he weighed 126 lbs.
Are you surprised Tito Ortiz is getting another shot, and what do you think off his chances against Lil Nog?
Not surprised at all, despite White's hints on our UFC 121 post-fight show. Tito Ortiz has been competitive, even if he hasn't won a fight in 4 years. I think it is a good matchup for Tito. He's got the wrestling advantage and doesn't have to deal with a speed disadvantage, either.
if rampage-jones-and evans win their bouts? who fights evans???
Rampage. The UFC would jump at the opportunity to make Evans-Jackson II, especially with the belt on the line. And it appears that Rashad and Jon Jones won't fight one another. Boo...
Chost, who do you got in the TUF fights tonight?
Gotta go with our man Michael Johnson. Remind me who is fighting in the other quarterfinal...
Hey Jon, I won the MMA Tonight UFC 122 pick 'em contest on ESPN Chicago! How 'bout some props?
Nice, dude! ESPNChicago.com is doing a lot of good things w/ MMA. Love to see it.
Jon....Long time reader/fan. Two questions: Is there some value on Falcao (+225) over Harris? I mean, on paper, 23 of your 25 wins via KO is impressive. 2) Shot in the dark....UFC Trip To Orlando anytime in the next couple years?.... New Amway Centre is ready to be christened.
Would love to see the UFC hit the Amway Centre. I spent a lot of time at the O-rena. My late uncle was a Magic season-ticket holder from Day 1. Hopefully at some point, the Octagon will get down there. As for betting against Gerald Harris, underdogs come through all the time in MMA. So why not? But I'm going the other way.
striker vs wrestler wrestler will win every time
Not every time, but wrestling is the best base for MMA. And more often than not, I would back the wrestler over the striker.
whose next for A-train if he can get through Munoz?
Perhaps Court McGee. No idea, really.
Regardless of who wins this season of TUF, Pham, Brookins and Johnson will definitely get a shot in the big show. Agree?
I think all 3 of them will at least get one UFC fight, yes.
if Rampage wins is that a big upset? What are the odds?
Yes. At last check, Rampage was +230. Machida -270.
When might Faber have a rematch with Aldo?
Not gonna happen anytime soon, nor do I think people really want to see it, given how one-sided there first clash was. Faber was able to move down to bantamweight with relative ease. And Aldo will sooner move up to 155 than down to 135.
Who's gonna be on MMA live tomorrow?
Not sure who is in Bristol w/ me, but Rampage will be on the show from Detroit.
Any buzz for Strikeforce Challengers on Fri? Any love for Vitor Shaolin?
Because the great Pat Miletich is on the call, absolutely. But honestly, I haven't given it much attention. Football season is very challenging on this end. Pulled in a lot of different directions.
Assuming Gerald Harris wins Saturday, they should give him a rematch against Sadollah from their TUF days.
A good suggestion and possibility. I think Harris would smash him.
I read earlier this week that if bj loses he might cut down to 145 lbs. Do you think that is possible?
Bones Jones vs. Cain in 2012? Think its possible
Sure. But as stated previously, I think Jon Jones would be well-served to stay at 205 as long as he can. And he said to me he at least wants to be light heavyweight champion before even entertaining a move up to heavy.
Who do you think is next for Jon Madsen?
Good question. Madsen has exceeded my expectations. Rarely do fans leave the arena talking about him, but he's still undefeated and has looked pretty good doing it.
it seems to me that rivera got bisping next because his fight was called off last minute last weekend. i like jorge but should he be fighting a top 10 guy like the count?
In total agreement. Rivera has won 3 straight, but Bisping is near the top of the division. Rivera is not.
Who did Joey Beltran tick off to get Pat Barry? I think Barry KO's Beltran after chopping him down with leg kicks.
There are no easy fights in the UFC. Could be a win-or-go-home fight for Joey Beltran. A tough opponent for him b/c they are both strikers. But Joey has a huge heart. Trust me on that. He will go in there expecting to win and will be ready.
Buy or sell: Miguel Torres vs. Urijah Faber as next TUF coaches leading up to a fight between them for No. 1 contender?
That would mean there is a lot of pressure on Torres to win his UFC debut on February 5th. I think that scenario makes a ton of sense. And, without any other obvious candidates, I'll buy.
How come nobody is giving any chance of Vitor beating Silva? All talk is who is next for Anderson.
I think plenty of people are giving Belfort a chance, actually. That's really just the way the commentary goes with dominant champions. Many fans think Anderson has never been more beatable after what Chael Sonnen did to him. I go the other way and think that was a huge wake-up call and just an awful matchup for Silva. Expect him to bounce back from that performance in a big way.
What's the gameplan for Rampage against Machida? Machida is very slippery on the feet. Will Rampage chase him around or fall back on his wrestling to get the win?
He's gotta find a way to take Machida down. Otherwise, Machida will pepper him with leg kicks and jabs. I still expect Rampage could land a big shot and finish Machida with his ground-and-pound. But it's not gonna be easy. I know Rampage doesn't love gameplans, but he'd better have one for Lyoto.
Will Karo Parisyan show up?
Flipping a coin right now. Heads is no, tails is yes.
Would love to have Faber/Torres as TUF Coaches, but they film the season in January and Torres is fighting in Feb. hate to be the bearer of bad news.
I thought the calendar may be an obstacle. Good point.
Brian Foster vs. Matt Brown who do you have?
May need to grab that coin again. Matt Brown needs a new nickname. Maybe 'The Inconsistent' instead of 'The Immortal'. I really like him as a fighter. Extremely tough and relentless guy. But just when I get my hopes up, he disappoints.
Karo should fight Nate Diaz... I'm sure their beef from TUF will be easy to ignite.
That would be OK with me.
I know you got more love for my boy gerald harris than that. The sky is the limit for that kid.
Love G. He's a good man and has improved more than any past TUF contestant I can think of. Just hard when people compare him to Phil Davis, whose wrestling is otherworldly and who I expect to be a future UFC champion.
Jon, does the winner of J-Lau and Sotiropoulos get a title shot? Who do you think gets the next crack after Frankie and Maynard?
The winner of Ben Henderson and Anthony Pettis will get the next shot at Edgar or Maynard. But the Lauzon-GST winner will be right there.
Oh you post that but none of my GST questions get through. C'mon man!
Bro, do you see how quickly I try to post questions and answers? I don't even see a good chunk of the questions that come in. We are well over 900 questions today. Hang in there.
Jon, do you think Mayweather would be able to make a fight with PacMan boring, or would he have to stand and trade?
I used to be the biggest Mayweather fan in the world. He is to boxing defense what Pacquiao is to boxing offense. At this point, I think there is almost a 0% chance the fight happens. I don't like Floyd's chances at all b/c he would have to engage. Pacquiao's chin is incredible, and if he can do that to Margarito's face, I think eventually he would find Floyd's chin.
What's going to be the co-main event for 124? After GSP-Kos it's kind of lacking anything with legit title implications.
Good question. Perhaps Miller-Oliviera? The main card has some solid fights, albeit none with major implications.
Who is the better coach, Belichick or GSP on TUF?
Love the question. GSP is close, but the answer to any 'better coach' question is always Bill Belichick. Just amazing what he has done with that roster, in what is really a transition/rebuilding year for New England.
What do you think of the new kid Charles oliveria? Is that how you spell his name lol?
Big fan. I told y'all to bet him against Efrain Escudero. Hope you made some money. Good test for him next month against Jim Miller, who is not an easy out for anyone.
where do you rank Pacquiao all time as a boxer? Top 10? Top 5? Top 3?
I am by no means a boxing historian, but he's gotta be in the Top 10. He is the best offensive boxer I have ever seen. And he has now won world titles in 8 different divisions. 8.
True/False: GSP/Spider happens in 2011?
False. GSP fights too infrequently. But 2012? We're talkin'.
Alright, ladies. Last call. 10 minutes to go.
No more boxing questions. Lets hope Phil Davis and Jon Jones never join the same camp...
Hahahahaha. In complete accordance on Jones-Davis. Here is my suggestion to Dana White on teammates: When you sign a fighter, have him outline the guys he is unwilling to fight at the outset. Then, everyone else is fair game. I know this solution isn't perfect, b/c Jon Jones didn't know Rashad Evans when he signed w/ the UFC. But it's a start.
Oliveira will be to lightweight what Jon Jones is to light heavyweight. Future star.
Strong words from Pittsfield, IL. I like him, too.
Do you think the UFC will be dropping Tito Ortiz?
Already scheduled for another fight against Lil Nog. But a loss there, and he's gone.
Do you think there's any truth to the rumor that UFC 124 will be on free tv? The "Live on Pay Per View" line is strangely missing from the fight poster.
No way Georges St. Pierre will fight on free TV. Sorry.
I feel your pain, though. With Pacquiao-Margarito and UFC 123 back-to-back, my cable bill goes soaring over $300 for the month.
Because of his fight being on the preliminary card how did Pascal Krauss look last weekend?
Haven't seen it brother, sorry. Go Pats.
Who you taking Hendo or Babalu?
Is Hendo training?
Buy or sell, MMA is an Olympic event by 2020?
Sell. Just way too many variables. Could happen someday, but I think 2020 is too optimistic. Love the question, Mike.
Wishing Jim B from Savage the best as he heard the news of a new baby girl in his family.
Is Strikeforce murging with Bellator Jay Hieron is the first cross promotion fighter?
No. Hieron's deal is US-exclusive to Bellator.
I still can't believe that the world wide leader makes you pay for your own PPVs. Do you at least get to expense them?
I probably could. Tax write-off.
How bout some love for Mike Vick and my Eagles after that total destruction of the Skins!
Love. Vick might've even upstaged Manny Pacquiao this weekend, if that's possible.
did u find it a lil odd that the natural born killer said he was offered a fight with fitch and turned it down for Lytle?!
Any WWE fan can tell you it doesn't matter if they like you or hate you, as long as they pay to see you. Good for Koscheck embracing the heel role.
Exactly right. Immediately following UFC 113, Koscheck made a calculated move to position himself as the heel. It has worked to perfection.
Pats are gonna CRUSH the Colts!
Peyton scares me. Always.
i texted and drove yesterday with no problem
Not what I want to hear! Best of luck getting another question posted in here.
there's playing the role, then theres just plain being a d-bag like kos is..he doesnt have to act is all i'm saying..
Many agree with you. He's not the most likable guy. But I've seen a different side of him, as we often do when fighters join us on ESPN/MMA Live.
Keep up the great work Jon!!
Jon, give us a namedrop of guests on the show this week. I know it's a leadup to this weekend's card, but who's going to grace the set?
Still not sure who will be in Bristol. I am hoping it'll be Rashad Evans, for obvious reasons. He fought both Rampage and Machida. But I can tell you that Rampage will join us from Detroit.
And thank you.
Being that B.J. Penn is a "Scrapper", do you think Matt Hughes can use his grappling to dominate on the ground?
I do. Hughes is a master at top control and I expect he'll be able to take B.J. down and frustrate him. Have I mentioned I'm excited for UFC 123?
Edgar took BJ down without a problem. Will Hughes be able to do the same?
I think so.
Do you think if Dana stops guaranteeing title fights the fights themselves would be more exciting a la Rashad vs Rampage and Okami vs Marquardt?
Good question, Phil. I think, if anything, the fights should be more exciting when the stakes are raised. But perhaps it has gone the other way. I just think winning is the most important thing and pleasing the fans is a distant second for a lot of fighters.
About your MMA in the main stream comment earlier: Did you see Margarito face at the end of the fight Saturday? Watched a lot of MMA fights in my day and I haven't seen a face that banged up in a long time. I think it's going to take exposure from ESPN and your wonderful show to get the word around about this sport. Love the show!
As far as dangerous/violent sports go, football is #1 and boxing is
for reals though people, dont text and drive
you scard to answer my ? cause rashad is your boy you no shogun is going to kill him
Didn't see your question. Rashad must really like his chances against Shogun Rua to sit idle for nearly a year.
Hughes will struggle to take BJ down. Edgar had the speed advantage.
We shall see. Wouldn't shock me, Josh.
I think Sonnen will get the next shot at the MW title. No one cares about Okami while people can't wait to see Sonnen- runs his mouth and walk the talk.
All will depend on Chael Sonnen's appeal hearing, which is now just a few weeks away. But there is no bigger fight at 185 than Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen (a GSP-Silva mega-fight notwithstanding).
how unbiased can you be having friends as fighters?
If you go back and read my chats, I tell it like it is. Of course, I have a rooting interest when Kenny Florian or Rashad Evans or Stephan Bonnar fight. But I am matter of fact when analyzing their fights, before and after. I do my best. Not always easy.
When chatters get after Rashad Evans, I could easily not post the questions. But I feel it's important to address it. Perhaps he wouldn't want me to, but that is my job.
that's about enough from Hayden from UT
Rampage needs to take machida to the mat, have u already posted ur picks?
Yes. I picked upsets in the main and co-main events. Rampage and Hughes.
If Hughes gets by Penn, how many more fights before GSP?
Just not sure the masses will be clamoring to see that again. But, if Hughes is dominant in beating B.J. Penn, the fight could gain some steam.
Any talks from ESPN to extend the show from 30 mins to an hour like it is online?
If those talks are happening, I am not a part of them. But I feel your pain in only being on a half-hour per week. As many of you know, only 40% of my week is devoted to Mixed martial arts. Wish it was more.
rampage/machida winner vs bader/jones winner, what do you think?
Possible. But I really believe Rampage will get a title shot with a win. Same can be said for Machida, but in Jackson's case, I really think the UFC will want to capitalize on his star power.
you gotta have your boy Phil Davis saturday right????
are you as excited as I am to watch TUF tonight?
I couldn't possibly be as excited as you, Lee. But I'll be watching intently!
do you think joe rogan can be biased or overbearing at times as a commentator?
I think Joe Rogan is terrific. I really do think he's the best in the business. Having done the blow-by-blow for Season 1 of Bellator, I can tell you it's not as easy as it looks. It's live and you have to react in the moment. It's never perfect. None of us is.
Jon - try to tell me Dana White is not the most compelling personality in sports right now.
Oh, he's right up there.
Jon, Are ladies welcome in the chat? Your boy Rashad hasn't come off well the last few weeks. Does he have clouded vision? I get he's the top contender, but his style doesn't make him a PPV or ticket seller. He should take any TV fight that the UFC offers him, he's not Main Event Status unless it's for the title, and that's a maybe. Thoughts?
Ladies are more than welcome. I think a lot of guys post as chicks so as to get their questions answered, b/c I do prioritize. As for Rashad, I hear some of your complaints. But winning really has to be goal #1, and if you look at Evans' resume, it's damn impressive. He wanted badly to knock Rampage out. Just didn't happen for him. Hopefully, his performance against Shogun will be electric enough to get him back in the fans' good graces.
Rashad just wants the belt, can't blame him, its the name of the game...
Jon, Do you know Dana White personally? And if so what is he like to talk to without the cameras?
Yes, I do. With Dana, what you see is what you get. He has always been gracious in my multiple dealings with him. Really like the guy. My only complaint is that I wish he was on MMA Live more. But I don't book the guests.
Great Chat Jon. You make my wednesday's the best day of the week
Appreciate it, Lance. Chat would be nothing without you guys, so keep coming back. We'll do another chat next Wednesday. Yes, I'll be here the day before Thanksgiving!
None of us "are" lol
Actually, my grammar is accurate. None of us IS. None is singular. Look it up, brother. I take great pride in having the cleanest chat at ESPN.com.
Chost, gotta do one or the other; texting & driving or drinking
Jon - you need to talk some sense into the PTI guys; I hate how down they are on MMA.
It's frustrating. Tony Reali is a great supporter of MMA Live. Generational gap, I guess.
What's in your Ipod, Jon? I heard you were an old school gangsta rap guy. NWA, Ice Cube and Scarface.
You heard correctly. Most of my iPod is hip-hop. Some Phish, classic rock and even show tunes mixed in as well. But it's 95 % rap.
Do you think Alistair Overeem is a top ten heavyweight? I am under the impression that he is top 5!!
Yes. Top 5.
JA, do you know Max Kellerman? He held the last chat i attended regularly, and that is was 10 years ago! Good job man!
When I hosted the 'Mouthpiece Boxing Show' for 4 years on 1510 the Zone in Boston, he was a regular guest. Interviewed him a couple times in person as well. I'm a big fan.
non of us is sounds wierd, but I bet it is right, I am going to use it
A lot of proper grammar sounds weird.
I learned how to tie my windsor knot on you tube, where'd you learn to tie yours?
At some point, I definitely looked it up online. Ask Rashad Evans who taught him...
Lol ur the best, chost!First time getting in the chat only to be made an example of! Good work!
Hahahahaha. Hope you'll be back next week.
I think Dana should bring in Bob Sapp for at least one fight, even if it is just for gimmick. If James Toney gets a shot than Bob Sapp should too.
I wouldn't have a problem with it. But not pining for it, either.
Chost, flying past his 10 minute limit. Classic Jon Anik.
The questions always get good at the end. Can't leave you guys!
Have you heard how Kenny's training is going? Dunham is tough.
Training is going well. Kenny is all over the place- Montreal, Boston, New York. Might even make a trek out to Arizona soon. Might have more on that in next week's chat. He's working on a ton of wrestling, as you'd expect. I already told K-Flo I'm picking Dunham.
Pride days return!!!! Rampage by KO!!!!!!!!
I think it's gonna happen. Or TKO.
any idea when Carwin will fight again after his surgery?
Pretty invasive procedure. I'd imagine summer at the earliest.
Is Penn/Hughes a defacto retirement fight? I can't imagine what would be left for the guy who loses.
I don't think so. Just when you thought Hughes was ready to hang 'em up, he starts having fun again. And B.J. Penn is still only 31 years old. No way he retires after this one.
Hey Jon, I was just curious what attracted you to covering MMA?
Covered boxing for 4 years. Took our boxing radio show to cover EliteXC's debut in 2007 and have been hooked ever since. Thankfully, when MMA Live was developed, I got the first crack and haven't looked back.
How does Bader beat Jones?
Jon Jones hasn't been in deep water or any sort of appreciable trouble. If Bader can take him down or get him out of his comfort zone, might be interesting to see how Jones responds. But that is a huge if.
I didn't mean "left" if terms of the want, I meant in terms of the relevancy. Can't imagine the loser ever getting another title shot.
That is fair. But I still think Penn could find his way back into a lightweight title fight.
Would love to see Kenny fight Henderson....if he gets past Dunham that is...
So would I. But they are friends. Ugh...
Jon, have you considered doing some sportscenter? I think you would be a natural at it
They have my number. Appreciate you saying that. Would love the opportunity.
When you told KenFlo you were picking Dunham, did he cry or want to punch you?
Laughed. Must've thought I was kidding or something.
been a long time since been in here. But you seriously pick dunham against a desperate k flo?
Yup. I think Dunham is one of the best lightweights in the world. Kenny is right there as well. But it's hard not to back the younger, fresher, bigger guy. Of course, I'll be rooting for Kenny with every ounce of me.
I know UFC held an event in Atlanta, GA a couple of years ago, do you think they will come back?
You broke up with Kenny?
Nope, still dating.
Chost, have you ever heard a fighter say training or Camp is not going well? Seems like kind of a pointless question to me.
You are absolutely right. It's all about the way you ask it, especially when you're in my seat.
Alright, really must get outta here. You can always reach me on Twitter- @Jon_Anik and I will get back to you. We'll see you tomorrow night for MMA Live on ESPN2. Until then, go eat some wings for me, enjoy UFC 123...and don't text and drive. -JA
