Hello chatters. This weekend is as good as it gets for NASCAR. Finally, a Chase the way it was meant to be. Who do you think will come out on top?
Do you think with 23 year old Seb Vettel winning the F1 World Championship that sponsors will put more pressure on teams for a NASCAR youth movement?
No, I don't think potential NASCAR sponsors care about what happend in F1, but I agree that NASCAR needs a better system to train younger drivers. Making the NW Series and real developmental league again would be a good start.
This has been a year of firsts for Jimmie. First Bristol win, first road course win. Does he get to check Homstead off the list after this weekend?
If he does, he's the champ again. I definitely think he's capable of winning at Homestead. But I'm picking Hamlin this time.
Terry, Joey make the chase next year? He has a impressive top 10 streak going
He'll make my top 12 list, no doubt. Joey has made a vast improvement the last couple of months.
Hi Terry, with RPM future un-certain do you see AJ maybe taking his Bestbuy $$$ to a 4th JGR Toyota for 2011?
Impossible to say right now, but my guess is RPM will survive as a two-car team with Petty and other investors.
Does the #1 have a good shot at the chase next year?
Absolutely, but as Jamie said, h gladly would take a Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 win over finished 12th in the Chase. Whether he can be a title contender, I'm not sure on that.
Hi, Mr.Blount If you are Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick what mind games would play this weekend? Thanks for your time
None. All that stuff is BS and a waste of time. If you are concentrating on mind games, you will lose the championship. Believe me, once the race starts, all that matters who has has the best car and best team. And they may have to win the race to win the title.
QUESTION TO TERRY BLOUNT AT 2.20 PM HI TERRY WHO DO YOU HAVE FOR HOMESTEAD SUNDAY JJ DENNY KEVIN
I picked Denny before the season started and I'm stickin with it.
If Morgan Shepherd could swap cars with Danica Patrick, how many laps would he finish in front of her?
Neither one is going to set the world on fire at this point in their NASCAR careers. Morgan is too old and DP is too inexperienced.
More likely to happen: Harvick winning the championship or the dallas cowboys making the playoffs?
Way more likely that Kevin wins the title. The Cowboys have to run the table even to have a slight chance at the playoffs. Ain't happening.
Do you think with Rowdy getting married next month and Coach's guidence that Rowdy will seriously contend for the championship in '11?
It's a good sign for 2011 and shows they finally have a handle on the new engine. But I know they all wish it had happened sooner.
Who is the best non-chaser in this chase, and where would they be in points if they were in the chase?
Clearly it's Joey Logano. He has finished 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th and 3rd in the last five races. I believe he would rank ion thwe top 5 if he were in the Chase.
Terry, do you know if Jimmie and Denny are friend off the track.
They're aren't big buddies are anything like that. JJ's best friend in Cup is Brian Vickers.
do you expect Kurt to hang on to his slim lead for 10th in final pts?
He has a shot because he's good at Homestead, but Clint also wants that spot. It's a big deal to these guys because 11th and 12th don't get to go on stage in Vegas.
When do you think Jr Motorsports going to annouced the rest of Danica 2011 nationwide series schedule?
Probably not until January during the annual media tour in Charlotte.
I have not seen a Dale Jr question yet...what happened to Jr nation?
All in hibernation for the winter.
Any chance Red Bull moves to Chevy next year?
Jay Frye says that's not happening.
Are you going to be in daytona for media day in feb?
Yes, unless ESPN sends me on special assignment to a beach in Jamaica.
Predictions for Biffle on Sunday? Better than Edwards, Gordon, or Kenseth?
He might be better than everybody. Biff loves this track. Why wouldn't he since he has three wins here.
Is the reason that Dale-Lance hasn't worked out because Lance can't understand Dale's gibberish and weird past tense speaking?
Everybody understand Junior-speak. And Sarah, your daughter is a sweet young lady, but she shouldn't be in the DWTS top 3.
who is the richest driver in nascar
That would be Dale Jr., followed closely by Jeff Gordon.
Have people forgot about 2004? While this year's Chase is great, 2004 was even closer. Poor Kurt, everyone forgets he actually won the championship.
Good point, but it wasn't as close as this one going into the race. It ended up really close when Kurt had a tire come off.
Who would help Nascar the most by winning the Cup this Year: Harvick, Hamlin, Johnson
Either Denny or Kevin would be great. Nothing against Jimmie, a great guy and a class act, but NASCAR needs a new guy at the top, at least for one year.
Will Sunday be as good as '92 at Atlanta? Or will JJ or Denny dominate and remove all doubt 2/3 of the way into it?
Impossible to say, but my guess is one of the three of them will win this race. It could be really dramatic if the other two are in the top 5 in the closing laps, which isn't out of the question.
Any chance Ron Malec gets a shot at being Jrs CC?
That's what I would do, but I'm not sure it's what Rick wants to do.
One thing ive heard in interviews is how drivers hate to be asked the same question 40 times. can you dig up some dirt from some of the drivers with questions about something other than expectations and offseason activities? not saying its your fault, just a request
Digging up dirt isn't really my top priority, especially this weekend with the champiosnhip on the line.
Are most people expecting the repaving at Daytona to make it a total horsepower track and take the handling and driver skill out of the equation?
Good question, but I don't think so. Daytona still is a narrow track with tight turns compared to Talladega. Tire wear could be an issue, which is why Goodyear plans lots of testing in January.
Why would Mr. H put a car chief guy with Zero crew chief experience-not even in Natonwide or Trucks-as the #88 cc?
Because he's the most talanted guy in the company who isn't a CC right now. Sometimes the best option is to reward the guy who's ready to move up and had proven he deserves it.
Terry, if Jimmie wins 5 in a roll. Will it make him the best ever. It should
He's already one of the best ever, but I'm not ready to declare the the all-time No. 1 just yet.
if it comes down to the last lap and the 48 and 11 are battling each other does the 48 spin Hamlin?
These are are pros, but it's every man for himself on the last lap with the title on the line. I would hate to be the guy leading if the guy behind me needs to pass me to win the championship.
Why do the fans boo Jimmie, Gordon and Rowdy at drivers intros when they are 3 of the best in NASCAR?
If no one boos you, you are doing your job. All the greats had a some fans who didn't like them. Well, maybe Petty was an exception.
Better question for Jacob: If it comes down to the last lap and it's Johnson and Hamlin dead even on the backstretch with Harvick in the mirror...who does Harvick go with knowing he can't win it all at that point?
Believe me, if that happens, Harvick will believe he can win it. He would try to force both of them into a mistake so they would wreck each other and allow him to go by. All three of them might wreck it that happens.
Terry, is this our last chat until February?
No, I'll chat every now and then. I'll probably have on next week to recap this season after my annual best/worst column runs. And I'll do one when my Christmas wish list come out.
Jamie Mac saying he would rather win daytona and Indy than run for a championship is such a crock of ****. You play sports to win CHAMPIONSHIPS . I would not want anyone on my team not racing to be the best. lame
He didn't say that. He said he would rather win those races than be in the Chase if he knew he wasn't really a contender to win the title.
Since the old #24 pit crew proved at Phoenix to be better that the #48 bunch, will Jimmie and Chad keep that crew for 2011?
They were better for one week. As far 2011, I'm sure a lot of spots will change around for both teams.
what good is it to have Nationwide as a development series like you wrote if older drivers like Martin, Burton, Stewart, Gordon, Labonte, Kenseth, hang around forever and clog up the drivers market?
You're thinking of the truck series. Honestly, most of those guys are not going to race NW or Trucks after they've retired from Cup.
Between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel; who ends up with more wins and championships when their respective F1 careers are over?
I'll go with Hamilton on that one.
Whether he wins the championship this year or not, Harvick has had a stellar year. His record speaks for itself. Its high time Nascar rewards the regular season points leader. Harv would've stomped the field.
If you mean eliminating the Chase, that's not happening. But the regular season point leaders probably deserves something entering the Chase.
I know there are no team orders is the company line but how easy do you think it will be for the big three to pass their teamates and how hard will it be for them to pass the other two team mates. With every position being so important I think there will be some good battles and some hall passes given out.
We'll see some of that. But the intereting thing would be the last lap with a non-contender first and a teammate contender second. What then if the 2nd-place guy needs to win the race to win the title? Hamlin was asked about that and said he wouldn't want to win the championship that way.
What wuz wrong with MarK Martin dhis year
Hard to say, but Father Time catches up with us all.
T or F: No one will be clamoring for changes to the Chase if JJ finishes second.
True, but Helton hinted last week some some changes are coming to the Chase in 2011. I don't expect big changes.
With the Canadian government owning 9% of GM doesn't it make sense to have a cup race in Canada?
Sure, but they need a viable track. They could road race at Montreal, but the Watkins Glen road race is just down the road.
The Chase gets a bad rap in my opinion...everybody complains how the regular season points leader gets shafted...its the same as every other sport...just because a team has a great regular season doesnt mean theyll win the championship (ie 2007 Patriots)
You're preaching to the choir Layne.
Show me the love Terry. Who is Dale's new CC in 2011?
The love is here Suzie. If you ask me to guess, I say Malec.
Do you think Jeff Gordon will ever reach 100 wins or a 5th championship?
100 wins? No. A fifth title, maybe. The Chase always gives him a chance.
What would happen if Gordon is 1st Johnson in 2nd and Hamlin in 3rd on the last lap.
I don't know but I sure as heck would like to see it. The conspiracy theories would be through the roof.
Aric Amirola or Justin Allgaier which driver do you put on your team?
Good question. I like but those drivers. Aric has more experience and has really stepped up this year. But I think Justin may have more upside potential. Aric is the quick fix. Justin is more of a long range deal.
How many wins and championships does Kyle Busch achieve when his career is over? Does he have a shot at 200 wins in all three series?
I hope he doesn't get to 200 wins because people would compare it to Petty and that's ridiculous. Petty's wins didn't come in feeder leagues. However, Petty's 200 wins don't compare to what Cup drivers do today. It's can't be done now. Petty sometimes raced three events in a week.
Where does Joey Logano finish in points next year?
If he keeps racing like this, he could become a title contender in 2011. That will happen, but for next year, I'll say somewhere between 5th and 10th.
How's the mojitos on South Beach? Who do you have winning this weekend?
Haven't tried one yet this trip, but that will happen tonight. I'm going with Hamlin.
Gotta run folks. More stories to write. Enjoy the race Sunday. It should be one to remember. All the best. Peace.
