What's up guys let's get to it.
In your opinion why have the Cowboys done so well under Garrett? New formula? New hope?
Not so much a new formula but whenever you get your coach fired, players get a wakeup call about their season and about themselves. Garrett isn't doing anything special, or rather, anything that hasn't been done before. He's making players accountable, something that wasn't done on a consistent basis under Phillips. He's also focused more on the run game, which helps.
Calvin, are you surprised at just how little burst Marion Barber seems to have these days? I understand his style exposed him to a lot of punishment, but he's just 27 with only around 1000 career carries and yet he looks like a shell of his former self.
Barber was never a guy who had a burst, but he was a guy who could knock people over and that's not happening as much. In 2007, he led the NFL in broken tackles, but those numbers have gone done every year since. It's amazing, maybe his body is breaking down, he's got a calf injury now, as a reason for this.
With the Cowboys going 2-1 under Jason Garrett and played very good against the Saints, will Jason be back next season and do we see Tony Romo be back for any of the remaining games?
As long as the Cowboys do well, Jason Garrett has a chance to remain the head coach. Now, as far as Romo is concerned, he's expected back. Romo will miss at least another two weeks and after that the doctors will see if that collarbone has healed.
Calvin, are the Cowboys high on any of their practice squad players? I'd love to see Lonyae Miller get a chance since he was someone who many had as a sleeper playing behind Ryan Matthews at Fresno and has nice size and impressive measurables.
Cowboys have high hopes in fullback Alex Daniels. He received the scout team award last week for simulating a defensive end in practice. Miller and cornerback Teddy Williams are two other guys the team has high hopes for.
do you think we need to draft a kicker.
No, but you do need one. Buehler had his best game, in terms of kickoffs, last week vs. the Saints. But those types of games have been rare. I think his leg wears down sometimes after doing kickoffs and field goals and extra points. Instead of drafting one, the Cowboys should sign a veteran kicker in the offseason.
Should the Boys pick up CB in the first round? Prince A. or Patric Peterson sound really good right now.
Nope. Get an offensive linemen in the first round. Looks as if the linemen are dropping in the first round, so if the Cowboys get a Top 10 pick, some will be available.
Have you liked the way Sean Lee has played recently?
Sean Lee is getting it. He's been very physical and is making the right reads. It's interesting but early in the season he was struggling to get on the field, but as the season has progressed, things have gotten better. The Cowboys like Lee's athletic ability and the fact he can play both inside linebacker spots helps him.
Actually, Calvin, the cowboys are not eliminated from the playoffs. They can still win the division. All the have to do is win all the rest of their games. The Giants lose all their remaining games and finish 7-9. The Eagles lose all their games, except the one to the Giants and then finish 8-8, losing to the Cowboys on the head to head tie breaker. And the Redskins lose to everybody on their schedule but the Giants and also finish 7-9. I don't know why you're so pessimistic about their chances?
Fred,Let's be honest. You really think the Cowboys are going to win the division? Really?Come on Fred, work with me.
Should dallas get rid of roy willaims after this sesson? It seems when he makes good plays he even mess them up
It's a strange deal, Matt. But Williams has played pretty well when given the opportunity to make plays. But like you said, everytime he's about to make a bigger play something bad happens, like the fumble vs. New Orleans. Remember he caught the game-winning pass vs. the Redskins in Week 1, but Alex Barron's holding call negated the touchdown. I think the Cowboys will consider bringing him back, but it all depends if Dez Bryant's development improves. If so, then Williams is out.
Why doesnt anyone in the media ask Garrett point blank why he doesnt give Choice more carries?
Jason was asked that today in the news conference. Garrett said basically Choice is the No. 3 back and Barber is the starter and Felix Jones is No. 2.If Barber doesn't play on Sunday in Indy, then Choice will get some significant snaps. Barber's future with the team is in doubt and knowing that Choice and Jones as a 1-2 punch looks pretty good in 2011.
Today cowboys promote Safety Andrew Sendejo. I've seen his highlights and he seems to be a really good safety. Do you think he has a chance to replace Ball? I like his size and speed.
One of the scouts told me today Sendejo can play both safety spots. Not sure how athletic he is, but it seems as if he's a good tackler and very smart. Not sure if he can replace Ball, the Cowboys might go to the draft to replace him.
Is spears done in dallas after this year?
If the Cowboys like what they have in Stephen Bowen as the starter in Spears' absence, then I would yes, Spears is done. Now, the big question is do you replace Igor Olshansky next year and do you re-sign Jason Hatcher?Spears does have a chance to stay if Hatcher struggles, but that hasn't been the case.
Hey Calvin I was at the Thanksgiving game n heard all the Boys fans wanting Roy's head including myself.I watched the game again on DVR n Roy would have been POW if that last play didn't occur. He made some great catches and great blocks(Felix's screen and Austin's TD) I wish more Cowboy players had his heart. Those fans that blame him don't know football so what are the chances he comes back next season I think this team is better with him on it.Agree? Thoughts?
Roy has played well this year. No doubt about this. Is he playing like a Pro Bowler? No. But good enough to remain the starter. Williams did five catches for 83 yards in that game and made a nice block on Austin's run. He's doing all the little things to make himself a complete receiver.
Is it possible that the Cowboys let Kosier walk in free agency, and cut Davis and Colombo? I know that is 3/5ths of the offensive line, but I have to think there are better, more athletic options in free agency and in the draft. What are your thoughts?
Talked to Kosier about that topic today. He wants to stay but understands it's a business. The team could go younger at that position, Sam Young maybe, or draft a guard. Colombo is another player, while under contract, could get cut just because the team is scared about his health. Colombo has played well the last few weeks. Davis is also under contract for next year, and despite getting benched, has bounced back with some strong games of late. Whatever the Cowboys do regarding the offensive line, forget about free agency, get some younger players in the draft.
Calvin, If Jason Garrett gets the job do you think he goes out and gets a new D coordinator and secondary coach. I don't think Pasquoloni is the long term answer and Campo is just not getting through to the secondary. We are being shredded every which way.
He will get a new defensive coordinator. Not sure who might be available. There is nothing wrong with Paul Pasqualoni's scheme, but it's not an aggressive defense. The Cowboys have athletic defensive players who need to get after the ball carriers and such.
looks like choice may finally get some playing time this week huh?
He might if Barber can't play.
Is Jason strong enough to keep Jerry at bay? Or will he let Jerry do his usual meddling?
Jerry Jones owns the team, I don't think that's meddling. I think Jones does what he wants, but he doesn't make any decision without talking to somebody in the organization, whether it's his son, Stephen, to front office personnel he listens to people in the organization before making a move.
After watching San Diego play the Colts, you believe that they are ripe for the taking? Nothing on that team outside of Peyton should alarm anyone, although he is magical.
I actually like the Cowboys to win this week. Not sure if Bob Sanders will play, he's trying to get get cleared to practice, and Peyton Manning has so many problems without his normal targets, he's missing his starting running back and his two tight ends. Cowboys have a good chance at winning.
I sure hope we get to see McGee soon. I'd hate to play Romo at the end of the season. We've seen that Garrett is a sound coach now we need to check out the youth on the team...Sam Young, Choice, S. Lee.
I don't believe McGee will get on the field, unless Kitna gets hurt. Lee and Choice are getting some snaps, so the team is finding out what they have in them.
Do you think Kitna should finish the season for the Cowboys as their number one qb?
Yeah, I think Romo should just miss the rest of teh season. Let Kitna finish it out and then maybe give McGee a start vs. the Eagles in the regular season finale. But Garrett is trying to win the job and get the Cowboys to a respectable record for 2011.
What was the whole thing with Dez just him being frustrated or sign of things to come n a reason to worry?
I think Bryant was upset about not getting any catches, frustrated with a penalty called on him, frustrated with the Saints defense confusing him. Did he handle it the right way? Jason Garrett thinks so. But you would like to see Bryant handle himself a little better on the sidelines.
i really wish you would answer my question, please :(
Jordan, hope you're happy.
how much rebuilding (ol, safeties) can the cowboys realistically do in the offseason. when the CBA expires, there will be no free-agency.
Good question. You can't get rid of everybody. But there are some players who have to go. The safety spot is a concern, the offensive line is a concern, you might need another defensive lineman, kicker too. Will Sam Hurd and Kevin Ogletree return? If not, then you need to find a wide receiver. Lot's of issues.
yo wassup homie
What up, boy? Call me.
At the begging of the season....Everybody thought the cowboys were a superbowl/playoff caliber team. what do you think went wrong with this team and sooner than later?
The start was bad. And I don't mean the opener in Washington. Training camp was terrible as was the preseason games. It all carried over into the regular season and whoever the next coach is will make training camp a lot harder than it was in the past.
Guys, thanks for the time.Take care.
