Here to answer a few questions.
Cmon Katz, we almost beat Butler last year, then beat them this season. Everyone says not that Butler isn't any good. Give us some credit for a big win!
Fair enough. But now the key is to do something with the win. Stay near the top of the Valley the whole season.
Hi Andy, Have you seen UMass yet this year? The magic is back....Kellogg has them playing great ball. Can they beat BC and Seton Hall? Thanks
I haven't yet. Waiting. But will soon. Why can't the Minutemen knocked them off. Of course we have to wait and see how they handle the long haul of the A-10.
What kind of action do you see the NCAA taking with Bruce Pearl and does this year's team have a chance of being better than last year's team?
Hard to be better than an Elite Eight. The only step after that is the Final Four. I don't see this team going that far. But I was impressed with the team's defense both on the perimeter and interior. Tobias Harris is a stud and a real tough matchup. The only other option left for the NCAA is a show-cause penalty. We'll see if the NCAA goes in that direction in the spring. I was convinced earlier that he would get one but all of these self-imposed sanctions from UT and SEC will help offset possible show cause.
With TCU now joining the Big East in all sports, what's the future of basketball only schools in the Big East. As a St. John's fan I'm nervous that in the next few years the conference will split up and St. John's will be relegated to a conference with Georgetown, Providence, Marquette, Seton Hall, DePaul and maybe Notre Dame(if they stay Independent in football). Not a bad conference now but without the luster of the Big East, over time could become no better than the A-10. (No offense to the A-10)
As of now there are no plans to split the league. The Big East brand is stronger with teams like Georgetown, Villanova (not convinced the 'Cats will bump up football) and St. John's. I would be nervous, but only if there is a major shakeup with four to five mega conferences. Don't see that happening in the immediate future.
Andy - what is your take on the future of DePaul Basketball? Is their arrow pointed upward? Is Purnell's success tied to his ability to successfully recruit Chicago's HS talent?
The style of play should get folks energized. I'll take a wait-and-see approach as to whether he can land his style of player.
Andy, I went to the Cuse game in AC on Saturday, and they finally looked like a good team. However, Fab Melo looks like a complete bust. I know its early, but with his complete lack of skill right now, do you see him being an even average college player?
He has to be a defensive pest first. The offense will come. If he can lock down the backline then they should be fine.
Kyrie Irving: best PG any class?
He's the best pure point. Right now Kemba Walker is the best scoring point.
What freshman has impressed you the most so far? Being a Duke fan, I know who I would say.
I don't want to say just one.IrvingSullingerHarrisI would go with that as my top three right now.
as a nova fan should i be worried that their guards will be inefficient against strong guards that can just body them up.
No. I just thought it was an off night for them. Goins did a great job defensively. But I wouldn't sweat it.
You must have forgotten to include Terrence Jones in your top 3 freshman list.
I will make it a top four.
Any reason to panic about UGA's early troubles? The two losses can be explained but it seems they are having troubles even with lesser teams like Manhattan.
I wouldn't panic as long as Georgia has Thompkins healthy for the SEC and all of the issues are resolved with getting everyone on the same page. But the Bulldog will need to earn a bid to the NCAAs through the SEC.
How many losses can we afford without winning the WCC auto bid?
I know this isn't Mark. But for the Zag fan, there are still plenty of opportunities on this schedule led by the upcoming games against Illinois in Seattle and at Notre Dame.
As a Kansas fan i am wondering what does Kansas have to do to be able to take down Memphis. since in kansas last game there was a big hole discovered in the point guard play.
I wouldn't sweat it after watching KU beat Arizona.
Andy, love your insight! Was wondering if Duke wins again this year with college basketball being what it is, could Coach K be in the argument for greatest college coach of all time? Better then Wooden?
I think you have to have that discussion. Harder to win now then during Wooden's era. Also adding in Olympics now pushes K into elite company. No one will ever match Wooden's 10 titles. But K can't be too far behind. Of course the major difference is Wooden will have more of a legacy on his influence on the game and his wise words that have entered the vernacular in the sport. Wooden will be 1 for the overall package, but K has to be in the top five with his success.
Thoughts on UNLV not being ranked in top 25 yet? They have some good wins and ar 3rd in RPI. What do they need to do?
Ignore it. It's ridiculous. UNLV should be in every poll. If you watched that game and don't agree then you're watching something else.
UCONN really a #7 or just getting credit for a hot streak? Thoughts on where they need to improve? Is the team only as good as Kemba is that night?
I like to vote on the best teams of the week. UConn was one of the top 10 last week. Not sure the Huskie can sustain at that level. But we'll see.
Minnesota shouldnt lose a game until the Big 10 season starts, how do you see them doing in the big 10
If everyone is healthy then a title contender. The start of the Big Ten is brutal -- at MSU, Wis and Ohio State in three of the first four.
Who do you like Georgetown-Missourri matchup and what do you think of JT3's non conference scheduling?
Might lean toward Hoyas here. But only because Gtown has played a tougher slate so far. Still should be a dandy game.
Why do Izzo's teams seem to start the season sluggish and peak in March? Seems like every season there's a surprise loss or two right out the gate.
Some truth but the Spartans are playing high quality teams so the losses are never against poor teams.
Do you think Duke will go undefeated this year? And can Singler win the Naismith Award this year?
No. Duke will lose somewhere on the road in the ACC at least once, maybe twice. I don't see the Blue Devils losing at home. Singler and Kemba Walker are your early favorites for POY. But it's only month one. Three more to go in the regular season. Thanks for the questions. Enjoy the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on our family of networks.
