Chat with Chuck Cooperstein

ESPN Dallas
  (12:19 PM)

Coop will be here in a few minutes to answer your questions about the Mavericks. Thanks for waiting.

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:25 PM)

Many apologies for the lateness. Lets go!

Ralph (Celina, TX)

Do you see the Mavs pursuing Deron Williams this off season?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:26 PM)

Would love to see Deron Williams back in DFW. No, I don't see him being pursued by the Mavs at this time

Ray (Dallas)

Do you think the Mavericks would still consider a deadline blockbuster trade if they happen to be playing as well as they are now?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:27 PM)

I don't think it's out of the question. As long as it's the right guy. Can anyone say Melo?

Kevin (Dallas)

Anything from Carlisle about his 400th? I didn't see him mention it at all in any postgame notes.

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:28 PM)

Nothing from Rick about it. Terrific accomplishment achieved in a very short period (8+years). Rick isn't one to swell on that kind of stuff. he's far more concerned about tomorrow night and whether ot not the Mavs can end their SLC drought

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:29 PM)

At this moment they're playing better than anyone else (Utah has also won seven straight). I don't think I'm ready to call them the best without question, but this has been a great stretch and they're doing it the right way

Ryan (Frisco (Legends Town))

Should we be doing eerything we can to sign Chandler for the long-term now?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:30 PM)

Not going to happen now because of the NBA rules, and let's face it, no one knows what the future holds as it relates to the CBA. But suffice to say, the mavericks have seen enough to know what Chandler means to them. They'll be going all out to get a deal done.

Ralph (Celina, TX)

How likely are the Mavs to trade away Brendan Haywood?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:32 PM)

Highly unlikely. Haywood, may not be playing as well as we would all have hoped. But he has been better these last two games, and his mere presence allows the Mavericks to play a legitimate center at all times. And that has been the bedrock of their improved defense

Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas, Texas)

Do you think I can win my 2nd MVP this season?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:32 PM)

Going to be hard to do since too many people have you slotted. But the smart people know what you're doing. Just keep doing it my good friend

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:34 PM)

I don't know the answer to that right now, but I do think a healthy Roddy gives them a dimension that isn't already present and would give the Lakers a lot of problems. Hopefully we'll start finding out here pretty soon just what a difference he can make. It's pretty impressive that they've been able to do all this without him don't you think?

Steve Nash (Phoenix)

Do you think I will ever play another game in a Mavs uniform?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:35 PM)

Nope. Your time in Dallas has come and gone

Maxwell (Fort Worth)

Just wanted to drop by and say I think your radio work is second-to-none. Can always count on you to keep it honest and funny.

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:36 PM)

Appreciate the kind words. Always helps to have a winning team to work with. Can't imagine having to do teams that win 20-25 games a year. Fortunately, I've never been saddled with that responsibility. And i thank mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson for that

Melo ((Denver))

What will it take to get me to Dallas? What could be better than Me, Dirk, Kidd, Roddy, and Chandler withTerry, JJ, Matrix, and Haywood off the bench?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:37 PM)

Any deal that brings you to Dallas would have to include Butler and Roddy. Probably Dominique Jones and another first round pick.

clayton lee (wichita falls tx)

do u think this mavs team can keep it going on the road this weekend with a touh test aganist the jazz!!! where do u think this team is headed? do u think they will be there at the end of the year? the lakers are on a 4 game slide whos the better team at this point of the season the mavs or still lakers?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:40 PM)

Will be a sensational test tomorrow night. Both teams are playing great with each having won seven straight games. The Mavericks have not won in SLC since january of 07, and too often they haven't been competitive there. They'll have to fight through the hacking and whacking that Utah always seems to be able to get away with more at home than on the road, and then find a way to slow down Deron Williams, which they have hardly ever done. The biggest problem they've had there in the past has been the poor starts, but other than in the home game vs Chicago, they haven't had a poor start all season long

David (DFW)

How many Wins does Dallas get this season and how well do they do in the playoffs?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:41 PM)

I think Dallas is a 53-55 win team. Playoffs? We'll visit that when we get to that point. All about matchups in the playoffs

Rick Carlisle (Dallas, Texas)

Hey Chuck! Have you been surprised with the remarkable defense and the production from the bench?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:43 PM)

Nope coach. I knew if you kept after those guys long enough, and brought in a center who really knew how to direct traffic that you could do this. bench production was great last night, and marion has been awesome in the last week. Need Terry to snap out of his shooting slump. last night may have been a start to that. BTW Congrats on #400

Mason (Birmingham)

even though the mavs beat them last wednesday, is russell westbrook and kevin durant developing into a bigger threat to the lakers than the mavs?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:44 PM)

Don't think so. Not playing defense the way they did last year in OKC. those two guys are beasts, but without better play from the supporting cast, they will not pass the Mavericks

mike (azle)

Why does everybody think Roddy is so great? He had a few good games, but a lot of bad ones with a bunch of turnovers. I dont think he is nearly as good as everyone is giving him credit for lately

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:46 PM)

I think we all see the dimension that he brings when it is well utilized. You would hope that having been through the rodeo once before that he would learn from some of his mistakes. Rick Carlisle did a masterful job last year (Despite the numerous protests to the contrary) in bringing roddy along. Spoonfeeding him against the weaker sisters to build up his confidence. He has an incredibly bright future

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

When will see the Dallas Mavericks go to Madison Square Garden this season?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:46 PM)

Check the Mavs at the World's Most Famous Arena on February 2

John (Dallas )

Kidd for three.... He hits!!!

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:47 PM)

Would like to say that even more than I've said it this year. Like to see that percentage back up to around 40.

Robert (Arlington )

Is there any chance Tim Thomas rejoins the Mavs closer to playoff time, especially if the mavs are still looking like strong contenders? Also, any chance they use part of the mle to add some more depth? I would like to see a backup for Dirk other than the Matrix.

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:50 PM)

Nope. Tim Thomas is through. He's busy doing something even more important than helping the Mavs win a title. And that's taking care of his wife, who has been ill for over a year now. He was a good guy both on and off the floor and would have been a big hekp to the Mavs this season. Unfortunately, life got in the way

CoopandNateShowRocks (Dallas)

Play the antagonist...when do you see the wining streak coming to an end?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:52 PM)

Tomorrow night is the most likely night for it to end. That building has just been a bear for the Mavs. Frankly, it's a bear for everyone. If it doesn't end tomorrow, it could be going on for awhile, Until, perhaps when Utah comes to the American Airlines Center next SAturday.

Richard (Austin)

Which three players on this Mavericks team are most important to there success now and in the future?

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:53 PM)

Can I make it four? Dirk, Tyson Chandler, Kidd, and Roddy

Carmelo Anthony (Denver)

What are the chances the Mavs get me in a trade? 10 being on the way to Dallas now and 0 no chance in the world...

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:53 PM)

Chuck Cooperstein
  (12:57 PM)

That will do it for today. Again, many apologies for being late. It's definitely not my style. We're going to try to do this at 11 AM next week. See you then
