Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

Greetings people. Hope you're all warm and well.

Randy Moss (Nashville)

Hi Paul! Glad I could be here! How many catches do you think I will have tonight?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

Oh let's go crazy and say four.

Jason (NY)

Key for the Jags this week against Oakland?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

Run it. Don't turn it over.

Vince Young (Houston,TX)

Is the swing from 5-2 to 5-7 and from the offense with the highest PPG in the NFL to one of the lowest evidence that I am a more important piece of the offense in Tennessee than people give me credit for?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

Nope. Your inability to lead has helped produce these results even if you haven't been playing. You helped create the situation and atmosphere. It's about more than Sundays, Chief.

Justin (CA)

"With several off-the-record discussions, I was able to determine that Bradie James and Keith Brooking will take turns spying on Vick in Sunday night's game. The plan is to not ever let Vick get a head of steam. The Cowboys linebackers have been instructed to fly to the ball instead of letting Vick dictate the action. " -That was a quote from Matt Mosley's Obstructed View column. IMO he should fined for that. That is an all new low, even for matt. Is that even allowed?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Who should fine him?

Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville)

Still think Arian Foster is better than me?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

He's not right now, now. Things are fluid. I don't think I said Foster is better than MJD and that never can or never will change.

jose (the ville)

do you see bud adams firing fisher if colts blow out the titans today whicch i expect to happend

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

There is no chance of anything happening with Fisher, or Kubiak, before the season is over.

Mike (memphis)

I know u are a big vince young hater but can u see the diffrence in the offence without vince young....with young there a top 5 offence without there bottom five

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

"They are," is what you are saying. That contracts to "they're," not "there." Titans have never been higher than 11th in offense this year, and that was after the opener. They were 26th when VY hurt his thumb. So your numbers are right on target.

Charles (Goodlettsville)

How does it feel to be the most objective person in Nashville regarding the Titans and constantly calling them out when others won't, and then come here and be call a Fisher lapdog?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

It's great fun, thanks for noticing.

marinejld (LP Field)

Do you walk amongst any of the tailgaters before games? Will you be tonight?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

I walk as quickly as possible from warm car to warm press box. At LP, media lot and media entrance are close to each other, too!

Bruce ((Beaumont))

What are the Texans chances of going 4-0 again? Their hardest challenges being the Ravens and Jags at home and two road games at the Titans and Broncos.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

I have a really hard time seeing it happen. Ravens have to be ticked after Pittsburgh game and should push them around, I think.

OILERMAN (TEXAS)

How do you think the Fisher VY battle will end up after the season is over? Who goes and who stays

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

I find it hard to believe that Steve Underwood, Fisher, Mike Reinfeldt and Mike Heimerdinger won't be able to sit down with Bud and reason out why VY is not the guy. But who knows what Adams will do? You can make a case against Fisher now, just not one that's based on choosing VY over him.

Mr Anonymous (Indiana)

PK, not a question but a comment. As a diehard fan I am somewhat pleased with the Colts struggles this season. It's knocked some fans off the bandwagon. It's much easier to breath in here now.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

Whatever makes you happy, I guess.

Colts Defense (Nashville)

Will we be the team the Titans actually score a touchdown on tonight?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

I expect so.

Justin (Shelby, NC)

Hi PaulCan you please tell me why is Peyton using that protection in his right arm? I never saw him using that. Is he hurt at some point and maybe is one of the reasons he made so many INT. and nobody in the Colts organization want to talk about this matter?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

If he's hurt and they don't put him on the injury report, they are really messing with the rules. I don't think they would do it.

Bob Lamey (Indianoplis)

PK, would you let everyone know that I was just being sarcastic. They should understand that coming from you.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

You are a good man, and I've got your back.

Kevin (TX)

Do you think the pickup of D. Rhodes will help kickstart some life out of the Colt's run game? I know he's older, but if he gets back to form, I can see him being a big help while Addai nurses his injury.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

If they use Dom ahead of Brown much tonight, Brown's standing is very poor, I think.

Tucker (Springfield)

MoJo or CJ?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

Right now or overall? Right now, Mojo. Overall, CJ -- younger, has been hit far less.

Brian (Des Moines)

The Titans offense has been greatly criticized over the last few weeks, but the defense isn't great either. What's the biggest overall problem for Tennessee?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

1) Lack of production. 2) Insufficient talent.

Santa Claus (North Pole)

Paul, I'm going to bring you the one of the following for Christmas: 6-pack Batte's LaBlue, gift card to Jersey Mike's, or a Frank Wycheck autographed jersey. Which is it chief?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

I've been looking at iPads. Was going to ask you all if I need one. Pricey for having on one's lap on one's couch.

Peyton Manning (trying not to do to press to much)

This is getting outta hand, everyone is saying I am on the decline, at least Lebron's got my back...et tu kuharsky??

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

I am not saying you are done and I actually expect a big bounce-back tonight.

Ben (Nashville)

If Bud is senile and decide to keep VY and Fisher leaves or is fired, how hard to you think that it would be to find a coach that would be willing to work with VY?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

Only 32 jobs. Guys will take it. And they'll presume they can work it out. Then six weeks later they'll be saying to their coordinator, "Holy hell, I see what Jeff was dealing with."

Dillon (TN)

With Britt being such a large part of the offense before his injury and Moss being a complete nonfactor since his arrival, How do you think the Titans will use the pair and what do you expect for their production the rest of the season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

Yes they are both X guys. But surely, if they think they are the two best -- and they should be -- they can get them both on the field.

Urban Meyer (Gainesville, FL)

Maniacal workaholic, eh? A pox on you, Pete.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:21 PM)

I didn't say workaholic. I said control freak. You're telling me you can't figure out a way to do that job and see one of your kids games once in a while? Sounds like you have time management issues. I hope you have a quiet retirement. I am sick of you.

Errol Mizell (Jacksonville)

When the Jags beat Indy next weekend ...will they be the AFC South Champs? and the team who will finally get some respect in the NFL

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:21 PM)

You are getting ahead of yourself. How about they beat Oakland first?

Dustin (Houston, TX)

Who are the top candidates the Texans are looking at for DC???

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

They aren't looking at DCs. They are looking at Baltimore.

Jason (Jacksonville, Fl. )

So if/when the Colts lose tonight due to their lack of run defense, will you finally admit how little you actually know about the Jaguars, their front office and our fans? I seem to remember you saying something along the lines of anyone in the South could win the division except Jacksonville in preseason.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

Yeah, and I was the only person in the country who thought that, Chief. That I picked them for last place doesn't mean I don't know them, does it? Name me a national guy who can tell you their offensive line or third tight end? It's an incredibly unpredictable league. That's why it's so popular. An analyst can both know his stuff and make terrible predictions.

TL (Jacksonville)

Is there a result to the game tonight that would help Jacksonville's push for the AFC South crown more than another? Or does it not matter, because either way it's a loss and a win for an AFC South rival?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

Of course it's better for Jacksonville if Indy loses. C'mon. Indy is a game better in the standings than Tennessee. You want the better team to lose and fall further behind.

James (Memphis)

when fish gets fired at the end of the season, can he take your sorry self also? you make me cringe

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

Yet here you are, in my chat. I don't remember twisting your arm.

markus (saratoga springs, ny)

If Fisher stays (I think he will), will he pursue Singletary as DC? They played together and share the same philosophies...I doubt Cecil will be back as DC, you?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

If Fisher stays, he's not booting his DC. He's a loyalist.

Ryan (Cubicle)

Have you read Irsay's tweets? Is he just eccentric or a whack-o?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Everyone from Indy's been saying how great it is. I like the injury news and team stuff. The song lyric stream is a little out there, however.

Kyle (Rochester, NY)

Other then MJD, who would you most credit as responsible for the Jaguars second half success?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Knighton and Alualu.

2Cleva (OH)

Does Fisher take any blame in your book? Isn't 17 years long enough? Fresh blood has taken teams to real success throughout the league. Or is .500 and being media savvy good enough?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

He deserves a lot of the blame. He way overestimated what he had. Go ahead and fire him. Just assure me you get Andy Reid, Mike Smith or John Harbaugh and not Cam Cameron, Rod Marinelli or Scott Linehan. Can you promise that?

Mike (H-Town)

Whats the problems with the Texans D? The DC or the players?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

Players, but they don't have enough of them, which is Gary Kubiak and Rick Smith's fault. Frank Bush hasn't made the most of what he's got, but he hasn't had a lot either.

Ben (nashville)

Do you think that the Titans might make a run at Kevin Kolb after the season is over?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

I hope they would, but parting with a first and/or multiple picks is not their style. They need to break from form to solve QB.

James (Indiana)

You probably got this question 1,000 times today: If Colts make the playoffs, taking into consideratin their current personnel, isn't Manning the indisputable MVP?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

No way. His case is almost over. He's thrown more picks in three weeks than he did in three different seasons. Brady, Vick and Rodgers will all end up with better MVP cases.

Finley (via B-Berry curve) (The Mall of N-ville)

Master P,I found a nice jaguar tee shirt for Simon as a gift.On the shirt it stated: Jacksonville Jaguars 2010 AFC South champions. It's on sale with a 10% instant rebate. What say you Master P?It's a very nice shirt sir,I wouldn't lie to you!!!champions

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

I was just at the mall this morning. How did we miss each other? Who drive you? Who are we kidding, there are no Jags' shirts there.

Jack Del Rio and David Garrard (Jacksonville)

After a seemingly successful season so far do you think we are back next year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

Right now it would be very difficult to make a case against either of you.

Adam (Cookeville, TN )

Beyond Kolb, who are the other veteran or quality backup quaterbacks on the market at the end of the season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

Are there any? If Cincy ended up with Luck, I wonder if Palmer wouldn't be available and fixable with a change of scenery.

Ernest Byner (Jacksonville)

Do you see any correlation to me and running back's success? MoJo suddenly looks light years better than CJ.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:37 PM)

MJD was pretty good last year with Kennedy Pola. A really good position coach can make a difference as can a really bad one. I think if Byner was really good, he'd still be in Baltimore.

Barry (NJ)

Will Jacob Tamme play tonight?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

I certainly expect him to.

DBK (Knoxville,TN)

During the offseason Fisher raved about VY's growth and said he was "the guy" as a QB, yet he pulled him in the second game of the season on a weekend where both Flacco (4 ints vs Bengals) and Farve (3 ints vs Bills) had poor performances against worse defenses. There had to be more to that than the old "we needed a spark" line, right?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

Yeah, there was more to it. Young returned late from an excused late start to one day, and blew off a meeting another day during Pittsburgh week. They didn't feel he was well prepared. So when he struggled they weren't reluctant to pull him, nor should they have been. I'd bet Flacco and Favre showed sufficient commitment for their coaches.

Jon (Jacksonville)

How can the Jags be considered a legit threat in to any of the top teams in the playoffs, when no one fears them in the passing game on either side of the ball and with good reason?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:41 PM)

I don't think they could hang with New England. But the three other best teams int he AFC aren't exactly fantastic throwing it.

Mortimer (Nashville)

Which grades out worse: Titans offense or defense?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

I tend to give the defense more slack because of how many minutes it's been playing beyond reasonable expectation.

Kerry Collins (Retirementsville, FL)

Is it safe to say that one or two more performances like last Sunday against the Jags will ensure my days as an NFL QB are over?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Not a lot of feasible backups out there, If he wants a job, he can probably find one.

Yashar (Austin)

Your comment about Favre was way off base, he's shown the opposite of commitment to his coaches, especially this year. Blowing off training camp and the Jenn Sterger distraction are not commitment. I don't care how long Favre's been in the league, he is not above the rest of the team.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:45 PM)

You kind of missed my point. Sterger stuff was years ago. And I don't give him a pass for camp, but missing meetings game week is a bigger sin. Teams don't sign up for that. Vikes did sign up for no camp.

Vince Young (Houston, TX)

PK, had to come back to defend myself. Everything that you are hearing about my off the field behavior is coming solely from the "master of spin" Jeff Fisher himself. Never once has anyone taken time to hear my side or that of any of the players as Fisher has told them to remain silent on the matter. whats up with that?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

You're incapable of articulating your side, for one. And there is no side to missing meetings, to not staying in the team hotel when you know it's the rule, to missing a team flight or to cursing out the head coach in front of the entire team. What do I need to know about those failures that can make me think they were all OK? You're full of excuses. And surrounded by enablers who provide them.

Jeremy (great white north)

Did you get to watch the VU-Mizzou game last night? I listened to the radio broadcast online and walked away thinking Vandy was probably the better team... but that was based on the Vandy announcers' descriptions. I'm curious what a less biased observer saw.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

They're very good. Foul shooting was killer. Tinsley turnover at the end was pitiful.

drewdiggy (Indianapolis)

Bob Lamey said off air during Sunday's game that the Colts should draft his replacement. Do you agree?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

I feel confident he was kidding. And no, they're still a ways off from needing his replacement.

Steve (Longview, Texas)

With Marcus Robertson coaching the secondary and playing safety himself, why hasn't he recommended a change with Chris Hope?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

Change to Fuller, the guy they didn't think was playing well enough to hold on to his long-term nickelback role? There is this mistaken idea out there that teams have backups who are better than even struggling starters. And Fisher doesn't pull veterans who've been good for him. Except for Fuller.

Adam (Cookeville, TN )

Since everyone is so smart, how about a reverse chat sometime? You throw out the questions then post the best/worst reader answers?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

Love the concept. Will try to make it happen. Remind me.

buddy (nashville)

any word on inactive players tonight? what about damien williams?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

Inactives come out 90 minutes before the game. Williams shouldn't be one of them.

Chris (NC)

Do you see Urban going to Denver and hooking back up with Tebow?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

He quit so he wouldn't have to work. The Broncos need a ton of work.

Mike (Indy)

Checking in to see how you're taking the loss of the WC to Qatar. You gonna be okay?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

When you know the inherent corruption on the front side, it's less surprising.

Bostonian (Boston)

What's your problem with Bostonians?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

I'm from suburban NYC.

Dillon Klein (Houston,TX)

Any truth to the idea that a lot of the Titans problems began after Floyd Reese's departure when Fisher assumed more of a front office role than most coaches in the league have?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:55 PM)

That salary cap blowup that produced 4-12 in 2005 and 5-11 in 2004 was pretty much on Reese, so let's not pretend everything was wonderful when he was in charge. Fisher's got way more sway, but he relies on the personnel department. He's not a coach-GM.

Nate (Bay Minette, AL)

You know you're going to have to sit near obnoxious Kentucky fans and listen to them rant and yell while Vandy gets obliterated... right?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

Only if I can find tickets.

Pat (dirty jerz)

your 2011 titans quarterback is?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:57 PM)

First choice Kolb, second choice Palmer. Don't see either in the huddle though.

Vince Young (Houston,TX)

I am not very good at math, but Jeff Fisher is 30-16 with me and around 14-15 without me. The only thing that really changed during that time was the QB. Not to mention I saved his job twice after 0-3 in '06 and 0-6 in '09. Wheres the thanks?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:59 PM)

I love this you saved his job stuff. He was never getting fired. His rookie year the plan was not to play him at all, and everyone was on board with it. Can't it be that the other QB stinks, not that you're great. And that you've never been around when the pressure's been on its highest?

Chris (NC)

Current Chat Count?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:59 PM)

328

Jarrod (Asheville, NC)

VY issues aside, isn't 16 years of mediocrity enough?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:00 PM)

Since the team settled in Nashville and became the Titans, six winning seasons, three losing seasons. How many NFL cities would take twice as many winning years as losing ones? Answer: A lot.

Courtney (TN)

Do you feel that Jeff Fisher has held something against VY? I read a very objective article on Foxsports that tried to cover both sides of the story. Do you feel nothing for VY? You only bash him.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:02 PM)

He's earned everything he's getting. Never seen a less accountable player since I started covering the league in 1995, except for Lamont Thompson.

Popular Question (Jacksonville, FL)

Who is the better corner for the Jaguars, D. Cox or R. Mathis?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:03 PM)

I don't know. How's that for an honest answer. Cox seems to be coming on now. But the safeties made the corners look worse than they were during the bad times and Mathis can still play.

Andy (THE REAL Ville)

If you can find ANY article from the preseason/off season that predicted the Jags to have a record above .500 let me know. I love it when media "experts" are from the outside looking in and give the team criticism because they don't have any big name guys playing for them.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:04 PM)

Can I get you some tissues?

MVPeyton (INDY)

Do you think that Polian is to blame for the current state of the OL?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:05 PM)

The linemen are most responsible. Then Polian, who's said as much this week.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:05 PM)

A shame that time doesn't stop for us, but it's time to get ready for this evening's festivities, folks. Enjoy the game and the weekend. See you next week, I hope.
