Fantasy NFL with Jim McCormick

Jim McCormick
  (3:01 PM)

It's playoff time. Let's get started...

Dave (MN)

I'm thinking about starting Blount instead of Foster this week because of the match ups...am I crazy?

Jim McCormick
  (3:02 PM)

Not sure if this qualifies as crazy but it sure would be written down in the diagnosis.

Jim McCormick
  (3:01 PM)

Not sure if this qualifies as crazy but it sure would be written down in the diagnosis.

Hometown Boy (SoCal)

Can you show me some love during the first game of the playoffs. Pick one: Britt, Obomanu, M. Thomas or VJax?

Jim McCormick
  (3:02 PM)

Go with the lone healthy option in Thomas, not worth risking it on injuries.

DMAN arango (Philly)

For my flex position, don't know if i should start Fred Jackson or up and comer Earl Bennett

Jim McCormick
  (3:03 PM)

I often lean to the back over a wideout, especially given the poor weather being expected in Chicago. Jackson should have a nice total yards day, but Cleveland is stingy in terms of letting up touchdowns.

Jimbo (Cali)

Pick one for my flex plzzzz fantasy hope lie in your hands haha...BJGE Tolbert Manningham?

Jim McCormick
  (3:04 PM)

The Lawfirm seems to be the call; can't dismiss his Corey Dillion-lite role.

Andrew (Blacksburg, VA)

What do you think about starting "The Blair White Project" over Pierre "The Waiter" Garcon? With Finnegan on Garcon and Collie not playing, is Blair White in for a monster game exploiting the middle?

Jim McCormick
  (3:06 PM)

I prefer White more if for touchdown-potential alone; Manning trusts him on tough third downs and in the red zone. Garcon misses on routes and is still raw, despite getting more work than White.

Need A. Win (RVA)

If you ever choose to answer a question, please pick this one! Hightower or Westbrook.... absolutely need to win this week.!

Jim McCormick
  (3:07 PM)

It's tough to endorse Hightower, even with the recent increase in work. I'd go with the other PPR vet in Westbrook and hope that he's leaned on in the screen game like he should be.

Justin (Miami)

Need some help at the flex spot Jim. Do I roll with Donald Brown, Danny Woodhead, or Javarris James non-ppr league ?

Jim McCormick
  (3:09 PM)

Woodhead is the best base-line guy here - meaning he presents the least risk given his embedded role. I can't call it between the Indy backs, seems like the team prefers James, and Brown continues to struggle in pass protection. So with Woodhead first, I would actually prefer James for those evaluating the Indy backfield for tonight - more likely to score and the team leaned on him more this past week.

Biff (Hill Valley)

Is Bradshaw's wrist issue enough for me to start Blount instead?

Jim McCormick
  (3:10 PM)

All reports indicate that it's not something to worry about, just late-season resting and precaution. Stick with AB, he's back in the driver's seat for that strong run game.

Jason (NYC)

Jim....I sure have been waiting for you with this question. In a PPR league, do I start Tamme tonight or go with Vernon Davis? Thank you!

Jim McCormick
  (3:12 PM)

The Tamme situation can only be handled one way; waiting. Wait for the call, likely 45-60 minutes before kick. They'll determine his status, following the ESPN NFL guys on Twitter certainly helps speed things up. If he's a go, I'd trust him over Davis, even after Vernon's resurgence this past week. The most to Alex Smith is troubling, as Troy seemed to be more capable at getting Davis untracked.

Patryk (POLAND)

Mr.McCormick, you got fans even in Poland !! Always great stuff from you. I Need 3 WR's. Wayne is one, which other 2 get in : S.Rice, Floyd, Bowe, Marshall, Manningham, S.Moss. Also, The Lawfirm or Payton's word on Ivory ?

Jim McCormick
  (3:14 PM)

Get Floyd in for sure, I think he's in line for a nice outing, as well as Rice. Hard to sit Bowe, but the scenario isn't ideal at all. I trust the Firm a tad more than Ivory, more so because of how dedicated New England is to getting him goal line work.

Gino (Chicago)

Blair White Projet or Roy Williams in ppr?

Jim McCormick
  (3:14 PM)

White.

Stephanie (Ohio)

Help a girl out, a win this week will get me into the championship! Who to start at the flex: Benson, Jacobs, or Starks? Thanks!

Jim McCormick
  (3:15 PM)

No dice on Benson vs. Pitt. Go with the upstart in Starks, he should be busy on first and second downs, particularly if the Packers lead late in the game.

DWAYNEBOWE (Somewhere Over)

Somewhereeeeeee over the.....ahhhh you get the point.....do you still start me with the cassel injury? pick 2 holmes/bowe/sidney rice????

Jim McCormick
  (3:18 PM)

Bowe is a really popular question, and for good reason; the hottest receiver in fantasy turns in a zero. While earlier in the week I dismissed the Denver game as a Champ Bailey and grind-out game outlier, the Cassel issue now looms and makes Bowe a questionable call in these crucial weeks. I'd go with Rice and Holmes if Cassel is out, but would consider subbing out Rice for Bowe if Cassel is a certain start, which seems unlikely.

Kristi (Michigan)

come onnnnnnnnnnnn answer pretty please! better d matchup this week: Giants v. Minn or Tampa Bay v. Wash?

Jim McCormick
  (3:19 PM)

I like both as starting defenses, but prefer the Giants given their strong pass rush (rookie Pierre-Paul coming on) and the loss of Talib weakens the Tampa pass defense.

Rick James (Noone knows)

You seem high on Blair White this week... Do you like him in a PPR league over Jabar Geffney and Ben Obamanu as a flex play.

Jim McCormick
  (3:21 PM)

It's not that I'm that high on him, just over guys like Garcon and other middling options. I think White has a good shot to score and be a valuable third down valve for Manning. Given Obo's injury and the stronger dedication to running in Denver, I would roll the dice on White here as well.

SamMY (DC)

Tampa or Atlanta Def

Jim McCormick
  (3:22 PM)

The Falcons make for a great play this against a limited Carolina offense. The ATL rush defense is respectable, and plays well to subdue Carolina's lone strength.

Steve (PDX)

Do you still think the DEN D is a decent option this week against the bumbling, stumbling Cards? I added them to my roster, but it seems kind of dirty.

Jim McCormick
  (3:24 PM)

I've seen them scooped up in several leagues I'm in, and I can see why. Another green QB at the helm for Zona is inviting. I think they are borderline top 10 given some issues they have, particularly against the run and with a lack of sustained pass rush, but they are an upside play, no doubt.

Inclement Weather (Midwest)

What role will I play in Chicago's passing game on Sunday? Would a savvy owner be wise to start Blair white over Johnny Knox?

Jim McCormick
  (3:24 PM)

I actually still like Knox here; despite losing out on some looks to Bennett of late he's among the best deep threats and the New England secondary remains suspect, despite the showing this last week.

Keith (MI)

Just because I'm not pretending to be a female doesn't mean I don't really need my question answered! Charles or Moreno and DJax or Rice in a PPR? Thanks, Jim.

Jim McCormick
  (3:26 PM)

Moreno is just more likely to score and the work he's received the past few weeks is very promising for a strong finish, could be the key to many championship runs. I'd take DeSean over Sidney, if on account of the QB issues in Minny and the fact that I just think DeSean is due and the Dallas safeties can be had on double moves often.

Kyle (Chicago)

Jim, last time I had a question answered by you I asked if Vilma's value goes down with his move to New Orleans!! J.Charles or C.Ivory at flex this week?

Jim McCormick
  (3:28 PM)

I'd go with Charles, even with Ivory looking like a promising commodity. I know Charles lacks the scoring numbers but the yardage metrics are gross and he gashed the Chargers earlier this season, no reason he can't again.

Andrew (New York)

I think I'm about ready to bench LT. His touches seem to be dwindling and his production is down. Do I start Dixon, Starks, or maybe even Torain at flex instead of LT this week?

Jim McCormick
  (3:30 PM)

I think they completely misused Tomlinson. One could argue they got a ton out of him and it lead to a strong early record, which could be true. But it seems that he's sapped now, and the mileage rarely lies. I'd start Starks, who I'm not enamored with, but he should get 15+ touches and is a several thousand touches fresher.

Chris (Boston)

Arizona or SD D? I know. Awful, right?

Jim McCormick
  (3:31 PM)

I don't think San Diego defense is awful this week, particularly if Cassel is out or very limited. The Chargers' defense has been boom or bust, and I could see them doing fairly well here with their season on the line.

Jenna (Jersey)

James Starks or Marshawn Lynch in ppr? Thanks!

Jim McCormick
  (3:32 PM)

This is about where the Starks love ends, at the Marshawn Lynch level. I wouldn't expect huge numbers from Lynch like last week, but the undersized San Fran defense can be worn down.

Paul (NM)

Dallas RB's have great matchups weeks 15 & 16, but which back will be more productive?

Jim McCormick
  (3:33 PM)

I think Choice forces his way into the most productive stretch.

Playoffs?!?!? (INDY)

Best FF playoff tiebreaker to use

Jim McCormick
  (3:35 PM)

Honestly, I prefer to only play in fractional leagues, and think they should be standard. Every yard should count, not thresholds of ten or twenty. That said, since most standard formats employ total points, a playoff tie should then be decided by the bench points a player has. Doesn't seem fair to dip back into the regular season numbers (point total, head-to-head). By using bench points your basically saying total roster vs. total roster that week.

Mark (Denver flex question)

Do I dare start Starks at flex over Tamme or Harvin?

Jim McCormick
  (3:36 PM)

I'd wait for word on Tamme, then use Starks if he were out. I can't trust Harvin; he'll always deal with health issues and just plain inconsistency.

Percy (MN)

Maybe if I didn't read all these chats I wouldn't have these headaches. Harvin, B. Edwards or B. Tate this week?

Jim McCormick
  (3:37 PM)

That might be a cause, it's possible. With all I just said about Harvin, I'd prefer him of this group given how Holmes has taken the important vertical targets from Edwards and Tate is a truly boom-or-bust guy.

turbo ninja (STILL rolling on the floor laughing)

Ben or Freeman, here on out??

Jim McCormick
  (3:38 PM)

My wife isn't a huge fan of my Turbo Ninja plan, but I will never give up. I like Freeman more this week against that suspect DC pass defense. Could see Ben handing off and the defense doing much of the field position work. Going forward play to the matchups, neither player is overall more promising.

Jordan (Jersey)

Ed Dickson in ppr or Winslow?

Jim McCormick
  (3:39 PM)

Winslow, even though Washington is solid vs. the position.

Uncle Sam (USA)

You guys all seem to be ranking Patryk from POLAND high this week..how about a hometown love? Mike Thomas, Fred Jackson, or Tashard Choice at flex?

Jim McCormick
  (3:40 PM)

Choice has the upside against a Philly defense that gets gashed by decisive speedsters.

Chad (Chicago)

At flex: see from your earlier comments that you like Floyd and Starks (among the RB3/Flex possibilities). Who would you pick between those two? Have Rodgers at QB so maybe Starks hedges my bets on passing TDs a bit?

Jim McCormick
  (3:40 PM)

I like Floyd a tad more - he's the rare trusted target for Rivers.

Lisa (on an internet near you)

Jim, help a "real" girl: please help with a kicker: Crosby, Hartley, or Bironas, thanks cutie

Jim McCormick
  (3:42 PM)

Officially a dude. Go with Hartley, indoors and in a possible shootout.

Herb (Philly)

Assume Nicks and S. Smith start for NY (even if limited), would you start Mario, Roy Williams, Mason or S. Moss (0.5PPR)?

Jim McCormick
  (3:43 PM)

Herb in Philly, what is good? I got some 76ers tickets tonight for like $4 each, no joke. I'd start Santana Moss of this group; combo of gut call given how often McNabb looks his way and the absence of Talib.

Defense (Wins Championships)

Would you pick up the Dallas D/ST for weeks 15 and 16 (WAS, @ARI)?

Jim McCormick
  (3:44 PM)

I did in several leagues - especially for Week 16. Pairing say San Diego for Week 15 (SF) and Dallas for 16 could be a wining combo.

Ryan (Wilmington)

If I cut and past my question 500 times and change it a bit every few pastes does that help my chances or just annoy you? Garcon or Blount in PPR flex?

Jim McCormick
  (3:46 PM)

Depends, these playoffs chats aren't as busy so the chances are better that I'll see your question if you just post a few times. I'm still seeing thousands of questions, though. I'd go with Blount now that he's the feature guy there, offense should do well today.

Jim McCormick
  (3:46 PM)

Or Sunday.

derek anderson arizona [via mobile]

Hey you know when I said I put my heart and soul into this game apparently there was a misunderstanding because I was talking about my fantasy team even I know I'm the worst quarterback in the NFL so pick 2 RB in a ppr league mccoy,Sjax,or bradshaw thanks oh and don't tell my coach I'm supposed to be studying game film

Jim McCormick
  (3:47 PM)

I'm not sure coach cares that much what you do, at this point. Those are good plays and a tough call, but I can't sit McCoy, and I'd actually rather have Bradshaw given how often Jackson has posted mediocre outings.

Jeff (Fla)

you dont like Dickson vs Houston on monday nite? seems like Dickson should see 7-8 targets & Texans cant cover a bed with a blanket.

Jim McCormick
  (3:49 PM)

I like Dickson to a degree; he could be a sneaky play given the matchup. With the position so ravaged, I'd prefer him over guys like Kevin Boss and Zach Miller who seem to be trusted in more leagues.

Chris (NY)

Nicks or Fitz?

Jim McCormick
  (3:49 PM)

Fitz, he's still healthy and despite the presence of Champ remains a red zone threat.

paul (ok)

Throw me a bone here. Davis or Gates? line up has to be in by tonight

Jim McCormick
  (3:50 PM)

That's a weird idiom we use, what would you do with said bone? Don't tell me. I'd go with Gates, he'll thug this one out and is managing the injury well lately.

Mike Y. (Work)

Fitzs is awful this year

Jim McCormick
  (3:51 PM)

I know but I think I heard them say on the 06010 this week that he's still like the 18th overall wideout in terms of totals. Not confirming this, just that I heard that and was somehow surprised but not too much given the nature of the position this year.

Patryk (POLAND)

What I meant was, you don't think BJGE loses any carries to Taylor right? Thanks.

Jim McCormick
  (3:53 PM)

I think Taylor was in there in garbage time, then again it's good old Billy at the helm. But really, I think BGJE is a trusted touchdown source and a solid number two option.

Eric (Indy)

Vick or Rivers this wek?

Jim McCormick
  (3:54 PM)

Seems crazy, but people forget that Vick was a pick up - I'd go with Vick here, just a huge stage and huge game, same for Rivers, but Vick just consumes so much of that offense.

George (Pitt)

Nicks has been getting full reps since monday. He plays & dominates right away!

Jim McCormick
  (3:55 PM)

Says George in Pittsburgh. I could see him doing well, but also could see a limited snaps outing. Either way, he's in my lineup if I own him outside of compelling depth options.

Jimny Chitwood ((Devastated by Injuries))

JIM - Help another Jim out, devastated by injuries. You name them, I've lost them. Romo, Gore, Addai, Pierre Thomas, Vincent Jackson, Hill, and now Cassel. In a non-PPR, please choose (no explanations needed). 1) McNabb or Bradford. 2) Sit 1 - Ivory, Choice, Westbrook. 3) Pick 1 - Santonio Holmes, Derrick Mason, or the RB you sit in #2. THANKS

Jim McCormick
  (3:56 PM)

Go Bradford, sit Westy and go Holmes.

keeya (atl)

idp question for a change! i just picked up david hawthorne cuz he's been playing well of late. do i start him over dj williams (injury concern)?

Jim McCormick
  (3:56 PM)

Not a bad call - Hawthorne has something like 12,13 and 14 tackles, respectively, in the past three weeks.

Jim McCormick
  (3:58 PM)

Thanks everyone for checking in, hit me up on Twitter @JMcCormickESPN for some extra help. Good luck this week, remember to have the lineup prepared with regard to tonight's game.
