We are ready to roll. Bring it!
If the mavs could redo the draft you think they would still take DoJo? I feel bad for the guy cause we seem pretty stacked on guards so he doesnt get much playing time. (Maybe a PF to back up dirk instead?)
They did just fine with Jones. He has a future. he's playing on a loaded team
I haven't been hearing any good news on Beaubois. Worst case scenario, when will he be playing his first game? Will it 100% be before the new year?
No one has the answer to your question. he still hasn't been cleared to to anything other than standstill shooting. He has another appointment at the doc next week, but I think right now you're looking at at least another month before he's playing
I love the mavs, but it seems like to be a legit contender dirk and kidd need real backups, cardinal and barea should be 3rd string guys. how does a jj barea for craig smith deal sound?
Is Shawn Marion at the 4 a problem for you? because that's what he is. As well as the backup three to Butler. It's how he gets his 24 minutes a game. And very well played by Rick Carlisle to set it up like that
With the Mavs playing so good, do you still see a trade for another star or big scorer emminent?
There isn't anything imminent, nor should there be given the way they're playing right now. But if you're talking about Carmelo, it sure looks like the Nuggets are going to move him by the trade deadline in February. Not sure the Mavs have what the Nuggets want
Hi Coop, just want to know what you think is this Mavs team's biggest flaw right now, and how to go about solving it.
They don't score many points in the paint. They're second from the bottom in the league to Miami in that regard (How does Miami with leBron and Wade slashing have fewer points in the paint? Just wondering). Would love to see more finishing around the rim. That's what Roddy has the ability to do. It's what Iason Terry needs to do more of (and has the last few games as his three point shooting has struggled). Same for Caron Butler
it seems haywood is truly doggin it, all signs point to him being erick dampier 2.0, get the big deal and go back in hibernation. i know we want insurance in case chandler goes down but isnt paying a backup center 42 mill over doing it?
Haywood has been much better since his one game suspension in SA. His play against Al Jefferson in Utah was instrumental in that huge win. He'll never be a big scorer, and the free throw thing is getting just a bit ridiculous, but as long as he leans on people and grabs some rebounds, he'll be just fine.
What are the realistic chances of Mahinmi or even Ajinca starting to take some of Haywood's minutes? Haywood continues to look completely unmotivated, while his backups are the complete opposite. Was keeping Mahinmi in during the fourth quarter another attempt to motivate Haywood by Carlisle?
Don't think you'll see either of that happening, although, Mahinmi is someone they have liked from the start of camp, and with a game like the Golden State game just confirms to the coaches that if Chandler and haywood get into foul trouble that he can be counted upon. Don't think you'll see much of Ajinca unless one of the other centers is inactive, but he definitely has some tools. It's a great problem for the Mavericks to have
Hey Chuck, Im going to be in Dallas in January and I am going to the MAvs vs Orlando game...who do you think is a better team when healthy?
I guess I'll go homer on you here and say the Mavericks. Any team that relies on three point shooting as much as Orlando does to win games is a more vulnerable team in my book. But they both play great defense, and that's the key to going a long way in the spring time.
Will the Mavs make a serious run into the playoffs or will the winning ways of the regular season only last the Mavs until the first-round?
No reason to think that they can't. Just as there hasn't been a reason to think they couldn't previously. All depends on health, matchup, and mindset
Who will have a better career Roddy B or Devin harris.. When its all over would devin harris or Roddy be a better player?
Ah yes, Devin Harris back in town tonight. Not playing nearly as well as he did two years ago when he was an all-star, but looks like Avery has him headed back in the right direction after a horrible year last year in which he stopped playing defense. As to the question, how can we answer it until we see Roddy p[lay more. all we know now is both players are injury prone
What is The Worst Dallas Mavericks Team that you ever saw?
Why the bad karma for a team that has won ten straight and, with a win tonight over New Jersey, will even it's franchise record at .500? But if you must, it's hard to imagine that Quinn Buckner led team of 1994 wasn't the worst ever. There has never been a more ill equipped coach in Mavericks history, and while he did have a young Mashburn and Jackson; they had no clue as to what they were doing out there.
Everyone keeps saying the Mavs will be players at the deadline. Do you see the Mavericks making a dramatic change by trading Butler, or a smaller trade(what I prefer) for maybe a Shane Battier type player?
As long as Mark Cuban owns the team, the Mavericks will be players. that doesn't, however, necessarily mean they will make a trade. Unless Carmelo Anthony is dropped into their lap I don't see them making any trades. I thjnk they like the mix of players, and the personal chemistry among them right now.
Two average games are not reason to sound the alarms just yet. And GS was at 91 points with 90 seconds left the other night before they tossed in some prayerful three's. Both Sac and GS shot the three ball great (11-19 and 10-20). It skews things a little bit.
Their size is the biggest advantage, and the coach's willingness to use that size. Carlisle hardly ever plays without a true big in the game. You don't see them moving Dirk over to play when they want to go with the three guards. It makes all the difference in the world. The game against GS the other night was the perfect example of that. Even going down to the third and fourth center, the Mavericks still have quality at that position
Ultimately Kidd and Roddy start with Terry coming off the bench. But I definitely see a specialty role for DeShawn Stevenson given a particular matchup
Oh. And JJ will still play, but it probably won't be the number of minutes that he has been playing. Although he has played well enough that Carlisle will have more to think about
Chuck, is there anything different in this Mavericks team from the ones of the past who get bounced in the playoffs because they can't match-up with the opposing team i.e. Golden State, New Orleans?
Ray. Posted your answer just above
It seems that the Mavs are slipping on defense lately.
Think we got your answer above too
Thanks for all the questions today. Avery Johnson back in the building tonight. Hope he gets a big round of applause. He took this team to where it had never been, and is hoping to get back to he should be acknowledged for that. Hope you'll join Brad Davis and Me at 7:30. Mavs Insider at 6:00 on 103.3 FM ESPN. And we'll see you back here next Thursday
