Welcome to another chat on this cold day in Dallas. Let's talk about the Cowboys.
will the cowboys win another game this year?
Yes I think so. The next three games are winnable and it's interesting to note Dallas could win two of their last three games of the year.I think beating the Redskins will happen and of course knocking off the Cardinals. When it comes to beating the Eagles in the regular season finale, I don't see it happening.
i dont think they should risk starting romo agine this year....what do you think?
I agree, Romo should sit the rest of the year. Now last week when we talked to him he said he was still feeling some discomfort. He might practice this week and if that's the case then he will play, but at this stage of the year I don't see the purpose.
Calvin, you starting the chat on time is just about as hard as the Cowboys defense stopping a drive.
Now that's funny. Very good. I like that. For the first time since Garrett took over the defense struggled against the run and allowed too many big plays.
This is from a long awaited cowboys fan do u think if we fix our oline n secondary n draft a de do u think we could make a strong push in the NFC next year?
After seeing what's happened in the NFC anything is possible. The problem with fixing the offensive line is you can't replace all five guys. Free stays that's for sure but what do you do with the other four guys? Kosier is in the final year of his contract. Davis and Gurode haven't played like Pro Bowlers and Colombo has had his struggles. The secondary has played better the last few weeks but it's clear the safety play isn't very good overall and I do believe Jenkins is just having a bad year. Newman has been pretty good.In the draft get a offensive lineman and a safety in the first two rounds. If that happens maybe the Cowboys can become a contending team.
Hello Calvin, Did the door just open up for Barber to come back after the running game last night. Also did the Head Coaching search get tougher for Jerry after last nights loss
Not really. I do believe Choice and Jones are a good 1-2 punch and there is a role for Barber on some short yardage situations if the Cowboys elect to bring him back this season.Going forward, I don't believe Barber has a role with this team. He probably needs a fresh start. As far as Garrett goes, the team is playing better under Garrett than it was under Phillips and while yes the Cowboys are about wins and losses, at this stage of the year how competitive this team is a bigger issue. \Garrett is the favorite to get the job next year but I do think Jones will interview a few people.
Hi Calvin - I am absolutely baffled by the SEVERE dropoff in play by the Cowboys defense this year. It has the same personnel and scheme as 2009. What is the explanation? I find it hard to believe that the player's skills have diminished this drastically year over year.
JJ you have to believe it.Several players have fell off this year from Jenkins, Ware, Ratliff, Spencer, Olshansky, Newman, Sensabaugh among others. In the case of Ratliff and Ware both players face constant double-teams forcing them out of plays. When lined up one-on-one, they are dynamic players who normally make plays.I do believe Jenkins is having an off year and will play better next season, Spencer comes on strong at the end all the time, but they need him to make more plays now.We wish Olshansky would make more plays in the run game than he has because of what's been happening to the other players such as Ratliff getting doubled. The safety play has been inconsistent at times. The scheme is the same as last year, but the Cowboys played more man-to-man early in the year and went to zone coverage in the last few weeks.
What is the worst Dallas Cowboys team That you have ever saw?
I've covered this team since 2006 and I would say that 2008 team was pretty bad but it was still in the playoff hunt at the close of the regular season and missed it.This team was pretty talented but badly underachieved and won't make the playoffs. It lost it's quarterback for basically two months and it's starting running back for two games and it's starting defensive end for two and half months. I would say the 2008 team was worse.
I find it humorous that Jerry (and some media members) keeps reminding everyone that Garrett was part of the problem at the beginning of the season. Does Jerry ever include himself as part of that same problem as the Owner/GM? Could you ask him next time he reminds everyone how Garrett was the offensive coordinator during a 1-7 start?
Jerry Jones has said he's also part of the problem as the general manager and that's why he's looking at things closely. He will not give up the GM duties, that's not happening so please don't ask. But he has to do a better job of getting talented players at Valley Ranch.
A bunch of radio guys were griping this morning about Choice getting "the autograph" and Jason Garrett and the players smiling and visiting with the Eagles players after a tough loss. I HATE losing to the Eagles, but didn't Garrett and company really just display a nice of example of being gracious in defeat? Seems to me like that's a good thing for kids to see on TV.
Yes. I would say there is nothing wrong with thanking the other team after the game. The Choice thing, I have mixed emotions about because players get autographs and the such all the time. It's done. I think the cameras just caught it. If he had to do it all over again, I'm sure he would have done it in private.
I understand that Jerry wants to play his veterans to instill a winning attitude this season. His reasoning makes no sense, however, as if there is a lockout during the off-season the players that will most be negatively impacted will be the youngsters losing snaps and reps. Now that Dallas has been mathematically eliminated from the post-season, the younger players should be getting snaps. Is Jerry just trying to sell tickets for the Washington game?
Those tickets for the Washington game were already sold a long time ago. So that's not an issue. I think Jones wants the team to feel good about itself going into the offseason, lockout or no lockout. It would be nice to see some young guys play such as Sam Young, Barry Church and more extensive time for Sean Lee. Only Lee will get more time and that's based on Keith Brooking's health.
Where the deep ball? The back shoulder throw? The screen passes? Not doing the plays that keep the defense on there heals.
There were some screens last night but the back shoulder throws and deep passes were lacking. Jason Garrett said he called for those plays but the Eagles defense didn't allow for those things to happen.
calvin, what's the possibility romo plays sunday against the skins?
I don't think Romo will play Sunday vs. Washington. If he does play again this year, I would think his first games is Christmas Day at Arizona.
Whats your opinion on Tashard Choice getting an autograph from Mike Vick last night?
I thought Choice should have done it behind closed doors, but to me it's not a big deal. It happens all the time in the NFL.
If Choice wasnt getting carries as a RB because of his mistakes on special teams why arent other players sitting for missing blocks, tackles, or other poor play?
Bryan McCann got benched for his fumble on a punt return and Leonard Davis was also benched earlier in the year for his poor play. It happens. Sometimes when you want to bench somebody you have to make sure you got a backup ready to go. In the Cowboys case, the coaching staff might not trust some of the backups.
Calvin, can I have your autograph after the chat?
i beleve that the cowboys will catch the redskins and pass them for 3rd in the div. what do you think?
Well let's check the schedule. Dallas plays Washington, Arizona and Philadelphia to close the season. I think the Cowboys can go 2-1 here.Washington plays Dallas, Jacksonville and New York Giants The Redskins go 0-3.
is jason gerret the answer or will they play a game of go fish and find a coach?
They will interview some people and if Garrett is the final answer he will get the job.
Guys thanks for the time, let's talk next week.
