Good afternoon! Let's talk some football!
Tough to sit your studs, but should Mendenhall sit down vs the Jets for Torain vs the Cowboys?
Don't mind starting off with a fantasy football question. The Jets run D is good but the old standby rule still applies - don't sit your studs regardless of the matchup. Start RM.
TFS..need your advice now more than ever! You've gotten me to Week 15....Do I go with Miami, Oakland, or Chicago in Eliminator this week?
Glad you made it this far! Miami seems the way to go this week.
KC, hope you're feeling better...me, not so much. I've got Rodgers and Orton...should I pick up Collins, Freeman, Campbell???
Still a bit under the weather but not nearly as much as last week, many thanks for asking. Campbell has posted two straight weeks of 17 or more points and has Denver up this week, so he'd be a high upside way to go. Freeman is the safer pick, but his upside might top out at 15 points.
My man KC! Happy holidays! Highest scoring team second year in a row, and might not make the playoffs for the second year in a row, so need your help here. Need two, non-PPR: Greg Jennings, Steve Johnson, Mike Sims-Walker, Malcom Floyd
Happy Holidays to you as well, Damon! Great to hear about the highest scoring part, hope to help with the playoff bit. Would go with Johnson and Floyd, but do make sure Floyd is starting before gong with him.
So KC, do the Chiefs lay another egg v/s the Rams to give the Chargers the inside track to the playoffs, or do they get it together and rebound even with a questionable Cassel?
The Rams are taking a lot of grief for being a division leader at 6-7 but they are a pretty good team. They could easily give the Chiefs all they want even if Cassel isn't in the game.
Do you have any problems starting Floyd and VJax tonight if I am heavy underdog?
Could make a case to start them both but V Jax did nothing last week. It's as good a risk as you'll probably get if playing for upside, though.
KC, all of my receivers seem to have their best matchups of the year this week. What 3 would you start of Roddy White, Garcon, Britt, VJax, Santana Moss, Williams TB?
Not a bad position to be in, Nick! White, Garcon and Willaims would be the ways to, with Moss a close 4th and the way to go if Williams can't start.
I can't give the Rams too much grief. My Chargers are only 1 game better! Seriously, has any coach in NFL history failed more often to capitalize on their team's full potential than Norv Turner? Or gotten more chances to do so despite that history?
Turner is this generation's Wayne Fontes - he finds a way to get chance after chance.
KC, can we still expect the Start/Sit update sometime after the chat but before kickoff of tonight's game? Thank you.
In two words, absolutely yes! I wanted to take a look at some of the injury reports and given some of the injury notes that have come out today, the wait will be a good thing.
Scientist, must share a story, my aforementioned fiance had never seen Top Gun, so I forced her to watch it the other night. 30 minutes in she said, "Let me guess, every guy who watches this movie wants to be a fighter pilot." Me,"Yes...a thousand times yes."
Just like every guy who watches Jerry Maguire wants to be a player agent!
VJ's line would have looked better last week if not for that phantom chop block call on Jacob Hester that wiped out a near-40 yard gain.
He's still got ample upside potential, just concerned that even with that added in he wouldn't have reached double digit points. Want to see him get used more often but, as noted earlier, he's as good of an upside risk as one can take this week.
You like Campbell over Orton and Cutlet this week?
Yep. Orton's not practicing and Cutler is playing in brutal weather. Campbell's at home with a very favorable matchup.
in case you hadnt heard...i am starting this week and have WR eligibility....discuss!
Getting a few questions here and given the uncertainty of the entire Vikings offense, the short take is it would behoove everyone to consider someone other than a Viking player in all cases except AD (and even he should be considered a bit of a risky proposition).
It was nice meeting me, but I gotta go! Would you go Eli or Kitna this week?
Kitna, as Washington's defense is not nearly as good as Philly's. Eli's also struggled to put up points of late and Kitna has been very good in that department even without Bryant.
KC, man, I know you's a fan, and I ain't got nothing to do, so how about the Mrs. Scientist whippin' me up a batch of that 16 bean soup? The end sure ain't like I thought it would be!
Mrs. Scientist isn't exactly the biggest Favre fan, so I can't see her cooking 16-bean soup for him! Having said that, if he would actually retire in return for the soup, she'd probably relent (she can't stand his constant mind changing).
I thought this was a football chat, not a fantasy chat. Isn't that tomorrow? Geesh!
It is a football chat, but the ratio of football to fantasy football questions so far has been overwhelmingly heavy on the fantasy side. Shoot some non-fantasy questions over and I'll be sure to post them!
Do you have any observations on Tampa's Benn? His college production was not very impressive, but he seems to have come up big a week times this year. Do you think he will be a legit starting WR?
His metrics in college were less than impressive, but he did have bursts of production. Rather like how he's been in the pros. He's good but still looks a bit raw, think he'll break out in year two.
what is the biggest problem with the Jets running game these days?
LT is an older back who isn't cut out to be the go to guy. Shonn Greene was brought on board to carry this run game but he hasn't done so up to this point.
Is is a coincidence that ever since I've gone way, the neck I used to be attached to is not playing well? Which 2 to start - Britt, Nicks, wayne and Calvin. Grow me back!
One suggestion for fixing the problems in Denver! Wayne and Megatron are the way to go.
KC: Let's say the Vikes tank the final three games and end up 5-11. Any chance they can get a decent QB in the draft or better they just work out a deal with the Eagles and try to get Kolb (see, no fantasy question)?
Kolb would be great in the sense that he has already proven to be a solid, if high-risk taking, NFL starter. Having said that, there are four NFL-starting caliber QBs who should go in the first round of the draft. The Vikings ought to be able to snag one of them no matter where they end up on draft day.
This is it, I promise. Soup's on! No, really, I promise.
I'd believe if it the city next to his name was Kiln, MS instead of Eden Prairie!
Do you buy Shanahan's explanation that it was Smith's hangtime all year, not the snap, that got him cut?
Shanahan's always been a political kind of guy. The moves he's made in Washington along this line are not something new - this has been his MO for years now (just ask Denver fans).
KC with your advise I can achieve this. In a ppr pick 3 please: Megatron, Maclin, Lloyd, BMW, and Webb (wr eligible). Thank you
Asking the question a dozen times on a page all but assures it won't get answered.
"I don't know what to say, so I'll just say what's in my heart... Baboom, Baboom, Baboom." What does your heart say about starting VJax over Mike Wallace? Thanks!
Mel Brooks - now that's the way to get this chat back to the humorous side! Wallace has Revis and Revis is back to his old self, so starting V Jax over him is justifiable (although I'd still try to find some other higher percentage starting option if possible). In other words, try to start someone who will leave you saying "It's good to be the king!"
Better chance to win outright Dallas or Miami.... Leaning towards Dallas (veiled Eliminator Question)
Veiled Eliminator answer - Dallas is a good way to go.
J.B. - What makes you think would need to tank to end up 5-11? I think they're perfectly capable of giving 110% and ending up 5-11 anyway.
What stinks about that is a) it's true and b) Leslie Frazier deserves better. He's waited a while to get a shot at being an NFL head coach and now he has to deal with all of this? His future should not be predicated on wins and losses in this situation but rather how he holds that team together through adversity.
KC with your advise I can achieve this. In a ppr pick 3 please: Megatron, Maclin, Lloyd, BMW, and Webb (wr eligible). Thank you!
For the second time, since you have posted this question 50 times now, it will absolutely never get answered. Cut it out!
Or at least Brady Quinn, see what you have in both! Tamme or Owen Daniels this week?
Fantasy owners are dying with this one - Orton helps take them to the playoffs and then he and Lloyd both collapse right as their fantasy owners need them to step up. Tamme's been a consistent point producer and has a great matchup, no need to second guess him at this point (even though Daniels did have a solid performance last week).
Should the fins look to trade for a qb in the offseason? who do you think that could be?
They might just want to wait to see where their draft ranking is. It very well could be that Mallett or Locker falls to them in the right situation.
Hi KC: Love your work almost as much as Oreo's. Two quick questions: Who gets covered by Champ, Ford or Murphy? Also, Mathews or T. Jones? Thanks!
Mrs. Fields cookie sounds really good right about now! Murphy is the more likely to draw Champ, but don't be too worried about Champ - he's not having a very good year. Would probably go with Jones over Mathews.
If Revis is on Wallace, what does that mean for Ward? Will his value increase or is Cromartie just as scary?
Cromartie has posted a 6.7 YPA this year, so it isn't as if he is a coverage liability by any stretch. Ward's upside could be limited.
Take it from a Chargers fan - Cromartie is only scary if you're depending on him to make a tackle in a game. Especially one to prevent a huge run at a critical point in a playoff game (*cough* Jets game)
That missed tackle he had in the Patriots game that let Woodhead go for a TD sure didn't help.
I agree Champ is in decline, but I think Dwayne Bowe and MSW would disagree with you.
Very true, but I can't get the other Chiefs game where he gave up something like 160 yards. It's the reason the Broncos aren't going all out to keep him.
How about a non-fantasy question? Who do you like in the Eagles-Giants game Sunday?
Tough call but the Giants D knows how to stop Vick, or at least how to slow him enough to give their offense a chance. Would take them at home in this one.
If Rodgers goes, can GB give NE a game? I like GB's defense, because it seems that blitzing Brady is now more effective then letting him pick apart a team, as the 4-man rush can't get to him consistently with that great o-line.
They sure can. Check out today's TFS Insider article. It shows three reasons the Packers might have what it takes to slow down the Patriots. Without Rodgers, they can't win, but if he does play, they've got a shot.
KC, why no love for the kickers? Would you sit me this week for the suddenly hot David Buehler?
Buehler's offense is apt to score TDs instead of FGs. Stick with who got you here and go with Kaeding.

KC what would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you stand up and walk out on me? I was wondering about Arian Foster next year in relation to how many touches he's had this year. Obviously he's shown that he is durable, but do you think that he regresses next year for any reason (wear and tear, Ben Tate's return, etc)
You definitely don't want to lend me ears so I can sing you a song - singing is not a TFS forte! The Foster situation is a tough one because that offense looks like a Shanahan one in that it will go with whatever RB has the hot hand. Also tough in that it depends on how the team finishes (Kubiak could be out if they lose out).
I am thinking about benching the slumping Dwayne Bowe for the on fire Pierre Garcon. Is this the right move?
Tough call but Bowe has a QB coming off of surgery and is on the road. Garcon is at home with the much improved Peyton Manning and has the terrible Jaguars D. Make that move.
The Cowboy Receivers are dropping like flies. A former track guy from a school with no football program is going to get reps.Kitna is unplayable, no?
Have you seen the Redskins D this year? They have been giving up passing yards at a near legendarily bad pace. Kitna still has enough wideouts to be considered a very good starter.
Could Kubiak be a realistic = cheap option for the Broncos if he is fired?
Hadn't thought of that one but he does know that organization and has frankly done a solid job in Houston. Food for thought, that's for sure.
I'm an excitable European guy and I need some fantasy help! Floyd or Wallace this week? McCoy, Hightower or Mathews this week?
Those are funny commercials, but you know what would make them better? A few more seconds of air time of the girls in the commercials - they spend far too much time showing that guy in the speedo. Would go Floyd over Wallace as long as Floyd is active tonight. Would go McCoy.
Is Aaron Rodgers the most devastating fantasy injury in recent memory?
Big time. He was leading the league in QB scoring and then puts up 1 point and then is likely out for the second fantasy playoff game. And he hurts Jennings as well. Huge loss.
Speaking of food for thought, what does the Mrs have on the menu tonight? Mrs. Mike has some delicious Filipino food on the agenda!!
My eldest son put in a request for spaghetti with garlic bread, so that's what Mrs. Scientist is cooking up. Not sure Filipino food has made the rotation here, need to have our Mrs. exchange some recipes!
I think Brady's knee going out in year one is more devastating...
It was but at least his fantasy owners had some time to scramble to salvage their season. Rodgers owners were lucky if they survived the one point showing and are going to be hard pressed to win a tough playoff matchup with a waiver pickup at QB. Well, got an interview in Philly in just a moment, have to run. Quick note - fantasy chat tomorrow at 4 PM ET. Can also follow TFS material on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. Hope to see you all tomorrow!
