Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

Sorry I am late. I got stuck in a funeral procession. You'll get the full 60 minutes, I promise.

Vince Young (Nashville,TN)

Merry Xmas PK! How would you like a gift certificate to my steakhouse as a stocking stuffer?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Does it come with a flight to Austin? I love Austin.

Mike Carey (via mobile)

Pete Kuharsky, I'll allow the chat 5 downs today.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Does that favor me or the chatters?

Matt (New Jersey)

Huge fan Paul. Any chance that the Titans resign Moss? And just saying, it seems like Jared Cook is going to be a very good recieving tight end very soon.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

Why would the re-sign Moss? They haven't had enough chances to not throw to him this season?

Matt (IN)

PK, you mentioned a fine (or possible fine) for Robert Mathis. Any word on a fine for the hit on Collie?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

There shouldn't be a fine on the hit to Collie. It was unintentional and not helmet to helmet.

dave (vegas) [via mobile]

If Garrad doesn't have a choice in calling an audible is he not enough if a leader going forward? More great backup to have.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

If you're talking about the fourth down, they gave him two plays, one a sneak., He didn't hear that part. He should have kept it anyway. Most QBs in the league may have two options from which to choose, but few are changing plays outright.

Kyle (Houston)

From what you heard, what are the odds Kubiak gets fired?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

Low.

Michael Jordan (Outside)

You have great taste in hair.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

Thanks. And it's by choice, not genetics!

Ben (Nashville)

Do you think that MJD will play on Sunday? In fantasy I have Donald Brown and rashad jennings, who would you start?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

Jones-Drew. He'll play.

Ryland (Tennessee)

Do you think Rusty Smith will play more this sesaon?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

I do not.

Nolan ( fayetteville)

Pk, who from the afc south deserves a pro bowl nod but most likely will be left out?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

Terrance Knighton. Often takes two years and he's only started getting noticed this season.

Jeff Fisher King (Concentrating on Next Game)

PK, since I can't get a vibe from my owner, do you see me losing my job if I lose the next two, or should I be praying KC, Indy & Jax all lose to help out my cause?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

Unless they are really good or really bad I don't think the next two games are going to do a lot to determine your fate.

Ben (Nashville)

What are the odds Peyton will be playing for another team next year? Also the odds on if VY will be starting on any team next year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

Zero chance Manning is not a Colt. Zero idea if Bud Adams comes to his senses on VY or not.

DOn T (Odessa Tx)

Any word why the Titans have not really used Moss? Is it attitude? unfamiliarity with the offense? What?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

I think they think he's done.

Chris (Phoenix)

Happy holidays Paul, do you think that the Eagles can beat the bears if they played in Chicago since it seems that the field is always loose and muddy which seems to slow down vicks running ability?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

I know what happened last time, but I would pick the Eagles over the Bears.

TB (IN)

Can Collie overcome his concussions? Dallas Clark sort of went through the same thing early on in his career and look where he is now. Maybe that gives colts fans some hope?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

It's way, way premature to call him done.

DOn T (Odessa Tx)

What really happened to the Titans this year? Did the players quit on him? Is he really not that great of a coach?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

They aren't very good. Name me all their really good players? Why were the expectations so high?

Larry (Washington, DC)

How big an impact do you think Addai will have on Sunday's game, now that they say he's likely to play. I don't care if he gets 5 yards rushing all day, as long as he isn't timid laying a block on someone rushing at Peyton.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

They'll be better for having him for sure. But I don't know that it'll be huge right from the snap.

Dillon K (Beaumont)

If you could have one RB in the division who would it be?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

Hard to go against Arian Foster right now. I've argued Chris Johnson vs. Maurice Jones-Drew in the past taking CJ. I still think CJ's speed is something that sets him apart and makes it hard not to take him.

Nate (Bay Minette, AL)

Bourbon and Eggnog or Hot Buttered Rum?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

Never really had much of either. But if you are offering, I'll try the hot buttered rum first, please.

David (Memphis)

Can Indy shut down 0aklands run game like they did Jax, or were they just overachieving last week?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

Be a big deal to do it two weeks in a row.

Teri Dumb Titan (Nashville, TN)

I have fallen in love with John Gruden on MNF. Is there any chance if Fisher gets fired, which I hope, that he would be interested in coaching the Titans. Or am I just DUMB?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

If Fisher gets fired, I do not expect Bud to hire a high-priced big name. So that'd be a no.

Lump of Coal (Santa's Bag)

There is only one of me and you have to give it to one NFL personality: name that celebrity and why.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:21 PM)

How about Mike Singletary for cluelessness this season?

Ben (Nashville)

Is Bud as nutty as Al Davis? I have heard that is the case but they do a good job of not letting him talk to the media. Do you think that there is really a chance that Bud keeps VY and fires Fisher?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Al Davis is way nuttier than Bud, and I've covered them both. Yes there is a chance.

Nate (Bay Minette, AL)

What does Kenneth Adams IV think of the Fisher vs Young feud? He's the one that's going to be taking over for Bud... does his opinion matter? shouldn't it matter?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

I believe it'll matter a little. Would be great of he told grandpa why he's nuts. Have no idea about the dynamic there. But Kenneth is a bright guy who understand how the team works. He's tied to Steve Underwood, so he might lean towards similar reasoning. I think Underwood has to be with Jeff.

Giuseppi Chatterro (Your chat)

Just to get some standards out of the way:Why don't you like Vince Young?Who will my team draft? How can you be so biased against my team? Why are you so cranky? Now the important question ... got a favorite Christmas tune not sung by the Boss?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

I love "River."

David (Memphis)

Paul, if no head coach has won a Super Bowl with different teams, then why do fans clamor for Gruden and Cowher?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

Such trends are there to be broken. And they are recognizable names and personalities with good resumes. People like what they know.

Brent Paulson (Indianapolis)

Titans vs Colts? Any chance the game get's flexed or is too late?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

I think too late. Also, why not get a game that matters to two teams, not just (potentially) one?

Elaine (Indy)

Who would you vote for as AFC South's MVP this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

I think there are three candidates. I'd knock out Foster because his team is bad. Probably go with Manning if Colts win, Jones-Drew if Jags do.

Andy (Tallahassee)

Is this season indicative of Indy's future, or just an injury plagued fluke?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

I think B. But the draft needs to address holes on OL, depth at WR and in the secondary.

David (Memphis)

I think that Randy Moss has lost a step and can no longer blow by DB's, he has never been a good possession rec eiver, so, I tend to think that he is done also.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

Even if he's done, if you throw three balls to him high that can't be caught by little DBs, he either had one big reception or draws one big pass interference call.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

Is it wrong that listening to Johnny Cash playing Cocaine Blues (live) and the Old 97's banging out Jagged (live) is somehow keeping me in the holiday spirit?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

Not wrong. Old 97s are playing the media party at the Super Bowl. I will not be there.

Safety (Secondary, football field)

I love when Garrard throws high and behind his receivers at critical points in the ball game. It makes my job a lot easier.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

If only he could throw against his own safeties!

skip (nashville)

what about a trade VY for McNabb & hayneworth

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

How about some balance. I think it should by VY for McNabb, Haynesworth, Cooley and Landry and $300 billion. McNabb is done and had a gigantic bonus due. Why trade for that?

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

Paul, with the loss to Indy (unfortunately another failed opportunity to JDR to show the Jaguars have turned the corner) how much of his job stability is tied to these final two games? As well as he has done it would seem losing to the remaining two teams on their schedule would erase any progress.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

Unless they completely collapse, I can't see how he hasn't saved his job.

Larry (Detroit)

Exactly what do the Jaguars have that really makes them a serious contender? They don't have a great defense or a great offense.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:34 PM)

They have a record that has them out of first place by just a fourth tiebreaker. They don't need to satisfy your checklist to get into the playoffs if they win enough games and Indy loses enough.

Gus Johnson (Booth)

Am I the best play-by-play guy in sports?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

You're as good a national, high-energy play-by-play guy for NFL and March Madness as there is.

Fred D (Johnson City, TN)

If the Colts win the division at 10-6, but do not win the a playoff game, have they overachieved or underachieved this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:37 PM)

I'd say they'd have come out about right, but will have left the other three teams just kicking themselves.

Dillon K (Beaumont)

Happy Holidays Paul! Do you think that any team in the AFC South would win the NFC West if they were in that division this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:37 PM)

I think every team might have!

Neal (Mississippi)

When do the Colts start thinking about finding a successor to Manning? Much like the Packers did with Favre by drafting Rodgers.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

Maybe in about three years.

Rusty S. (Titans Film Room since 6am)

I'm trying and trying to think of an impressive question for you. How about this one, do you see me passing my old friend Kerry on the depth chart next year, or should I be looking over my shoulder after the next draft? Or does it even matter? Thanks PK!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

Titans quarterback depth chart for next year should be completely blank right now. Go have a big offseason and earn a slot there.

Billy P. (Nap Town Office)

Since some folks feel it can be difficult to project who will be quality offensive lineman, do you know of anyone who has a track record for finding dependable ones more often than not?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

Mike Munchak.

Laramie (Houston ,Tx)

Hi, PK!! If your Bob McNair what is your path forward(honestly) on your Texans??

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

I've never called for a firing before and am not going to start today. But whether Kubiak's involved or not, there needs to be sweeping change, not this we're-close-and-on-the-right-track mentality.

brian (springfield,mo)

manning has kept his team afloat with all the injuries from his teammates this season. if they all come back healthy and win out. do you think they will go to the super bowl and win.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

No. Dallas Clark and Bob Sanders and Melvin Bullitt and Anthony Gonzalez can't come back, they're done. Healthy as they can be, Colts are not as good as the best teams, I don't believe. But anyone can make a playoff run.

V. Young (Who Knows Where)

Do you think it was a joke I made the Pro Bowl last year playing in just 12 games, throwing only 10 TD's on 152 completions and only 1,800 yards? Did I really deserve to go?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

A lot of unworthy guys go to the Pro Bowl. When they have to turn to the eighth guy at a position, what else can happen. The game and the honor have become jokes.

Jamie (Late to the party...)

I asked this last week, but too late for a reply (or maybe a bad question). Any chance on Orton to the Titans as a vet next year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Well, start rooting for Tebow to light it up the next two weeks. A lot depends on who's coaching in Denver and in Tennessee. Not a terrible thought. But teams aren't giving up decent QBs at low cost.

miguel (tx) [via mobile]

Which team has been disappointing this season Dallas or Houston

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Dallas.

Amy (Spring Hille)

Do you think there is any chance that the Titans would pay me $3 million to not play? I could use a chunk of cash for your Christmas present.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Sweet of you, but you're going to have to make due with your Christmas Club account.

Bill Polian (Indianapolis)

Pete Kuharsky, did your agent (Read: Mrs. PK) get my telegram? We are in dire need of another safety (we aren't sold on Hamlin, shh). We're in Oakland on Sunday. Be there or be exposed like Michelle Ryan's feet.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:45 PM)

Those are my choices? None of the above, please.

kevin ingram ( kentucky)

paul, i must confess that i impersonated woody to impersonate randy...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:45 PM)

You should start calling shows in Louisville as Pitino.

Curtis Painter (indy)

How many games do the Colts win with me at the helm for an entire season? Favre's streak ended, so could Peyton's.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

Very few.

Finley (In the kitchen)

Hey, I'm making a sandwich. You want one?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

No thanks. I'm good.

Nate (Bay Minette, AL)

Peter King dropped CO Brocato's name in his list of non-players that should be considered for the Hall of Fame. CO's quite the character... but I believe Bud deserves to be in a lot more than he does. Can't tell the NFL story without Bud. Without Bud... the AFL fails.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

You love you some Bud.

Nate (Indy)

Who is Austin Collie's replacement? Blair White? With the exception of a major miscommunication in the end zone last week (when he wasn't the target, oddly enough), he's demonstrated a solid repoire with Manning thus far. Any idea what Manning's rating is when he's targeted White?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

Nothing close to what it is with Collie. Blair White is so-so at best. Collie is really good.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

A must read on Mike Heimerdinger: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?page=hotread15/MikeHeimerdinger

Jaxon Deville (duvalllll)

When do you think Jason Hill will take the place of Mike Thomas or Mike Sims-Walker?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

Not Thomas. Why would you replace Thomas?

espn mediator (bristol)

paul, is this the point when the chat begins its downward spiral?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

Wasn't that at about 3:05 ET?

Kristen (Nashville, TN)

why is it that you think you are the ONLY media personel capable of doing a media job in Nashville? All you seem to do is stir s*** up and p*** off the athletes in our community

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

Not really worried about whether the athletes in the community are pissed off or not. After losing six in a row, they should be pissed. Not sure who's pissed at me right now, to be honest. It's interesting, though, that YOU seems to dislike me, yet have come to MY chat. Please expound on that.

Dillon K (Beaumont)

Do you play fantasy football?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

Quite poorly.

Dillon K (Beaumont)

Vince Young+Chris Johnson Kenny Britt-Jeff Fisher is the equation for the playoffs... True or False?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

False. Either Young or Fisher won't be in that equation. The remainder will need plenty of help.

Brian (Houston)

PK, you just said Foster would be eliminated from AFC South MVP voting because the Texans are a bad team.Shouldn't things work the opposite. The fact that Foster has been so successful, despite all of this losing, should make him MORE Valuable?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

I understand that argument. But I firmly believe they could be 5-9 without him.

Tony (Toledo)

Colts and Jags lose Sunday can Colts still get in playoffs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

Yes. Colts beat TEN and Jags lose at HOU in Week 17, Colts would win tiebreaker on division record.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

Who looks to have the best nucleus going into next year? I guess a supporting question would be who has the greatest potential to lose premier players due to free agency.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

Outside of old guys you know will be in the clear no matter what -- like Babin, say -- we not sure who will be free under new CBA rules. So we can't say yet.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:57 PM)

Please check out this week's column:Play-action fakers fool too many for me - http://es.pn/gopBVg

Kristen (too) (Nashville)

Considering the disgruntled postal-like entry my other namesake just got posted (immediately after the downward spiral comment no less), is it safe to say it's a slow day in the chat room? What is today's count?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:57 PM)

You are 221. Guess lots of people are shopping. We may suspend the chat next week for lack of quality. It's my fault. I need to do better.

Kristen (Nashville, TN)

Allow me to ask this question in YOUR chat...what involvement in the newest Randy Moss situation did you have?? Since you seem to be oblivious to things going on in Nashville...quite a few fingers are pointed your direction so I would like to hear it from the horses mouth sir

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:00 PM)

I asked him a tough question and we engaged in a dialogue. You think that somehow fractured the team? I guarantee you he was over it in five seconds. It didn't stop him from answering a question from me yesterday. Didn't stop me from doing my job. If you want cheerleaders, Nashville has graduated from that, I am proud to say, and you'll have to move on to Memphis or Knoxville or Paducah.

Shooty (Shanghai, China)

Football is huge in Mexico and Canada so why don't more players come from there? Do you think the lack of international talent (when compared to the NBA and MBL) will eventually hurt the NFL in the long run?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:01 PM)

Huge to watch or huge to play? I haven't hear about a lot of high-quality post high school football in Canada or Mexico.

Kerry Collins (Titans Sauna)

Hey old friend, here is a non-Kristen question for you. Any chance this KC beats KC in their house Sunday? They are undefeated in Arrowhead and the noise level there can hurt my ears.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:02 PM)

On the bright side for you, looks like it won't be sold out. Arrowhead is great. Wish I could see the renovations.

Nate (Indy)

If there's a lockout with no CBA in place, what does that do to free agency? By definition, does a lockout prevent the owners from signing players to new contracts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:03 PM)

Yes. They aren't going to be signing guys to lock them out. There won't be free agency until there is a new CBA.

Nate (Bay Minette, AL)

in a proposed 18 game schedule... any chance they add an additional bye?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:04 PM)

Yes, though they don't want to start before Labor Day. So that could go three weeks longer into February for the Super Bowl.

Nate (Indy)

If Bud Adams decides to fire Jeff Fisher, do you think his first interview question for his replacement is, "Can you work with Vince Young?"

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:05 PM)

Yup.

Kristen (Nashville, TN)

Even though you continually stir shit up...you are very interesting to follow! I may even come back to your chat next week to continue my conversations with you seeing as I know where to find you now!!! This could be a very interesting relationship :-) Have a Merry Christmas Paul.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:06 PM)

And a very Merry Christmas to you, Kristen. I assure you and all, I stir out of my stances, I don't come up with my stances to stir.

Tim Graham (AFC East)

A person from China asking questions about Canada and Mexico? PK, you are an international star. I can't compete with that.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:07 PM)

And someone retweets me in Portuguese! Growing the international base is the only way to close the gap on you guys with giant markets.

Nate (Bay Minette, AL)

Do you have any ideas for the next installment of Fat and 40?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:07 PM)

Long snapping.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

Let me set the scene for you: guy sitting a bar with beer in hand. Looks over to see Kuharsky walking into the establishment. Guy hollars out, "Hey Paul, thanks for all the work on the AFC South. Great gift for those of us who follow it. First beer is on me." Thanks man.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:08 PM)

Thank you Brian. And thanks to all of you. Especially the regular. I appreciate your interest very much and know it's because of you I get to have all this fun for a living. Hope you're with the ones closest to you for Christmas. Cheers!
