Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:01 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get started.

Dain (Kansas City)

Who do you think is the bigger pro bowl snub for KC, Tamba Hali or Derrick Johnson?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:01 PM)

Hali was the biggest snub in the AFC West. He's been dominant. DJ has been terrific too, but Hali has been a star.

brian (durango)

how come the chiefs have never been higher than 10th on the power rankings? they have better records than the packers and colts and are division winners, own the number 1 run game, a top 10 offense, the best receiver and back in the league, a defense that has improved every week, the best coaching staff and have only continued to win. look at their home stats, they allow only 12 points per game and score almost 30. thats best in the league. butyet, they ar only 10th according to this bias national sports broadcaster. One day ESPN, you will have no choice but to embrace the kansas city chiefs as one of the best teams in football, and i think that day is coming soon... but keep putting them behind all your guys favorite teams, like i said, they'll keep making ESPN look foolish and their analysts look like they lack knowledge on the sport.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:03 PM)

We only have four voters and I'm not one, so I can't speak to as why the Chiefs aren't in the top 10. I think they are. But some of you you folks need to get off that "favorite team" deal. It doesn't exist.

Brett Dayton (Apple Valley, California)

Hey Bill, great job with all of the coverage this year. I'm am trying to schedule the wildcard weekend as a Chiefs fan but can not find any information on when the Chiefs will play (Jan. 8th or 9th) depending upon their seeding (no. 3 or 4), do you have any info? Thanks!

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:04 PM)

Thanks Brett, it will likely be decided Sunday night. One game from each conference will play each day.

Ken (Colorado Springs)

What are the chances of Eric Studesville actually staying on as HC?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:06 PM)

I think its a long shot, but maybe they will try to keep him on staff. He's been a good employee ina tough spot. This is great experience for him.

Tim (SLC)

Bill, how does the AFC West playout next season? Give me order of finish for 2011.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:06 PM)

Let's finsih this season first, brother.

Jacob (Manhattan, Kansas)

How do you like Gradkowski's Chances of staying on Oakland's roster next season after being put on IR?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:07 PM)

He's a free agent. My guess is he signs to stay as the backup. It's a good fit.

Paul (Indio)

Does Bailey still land in the AFC West? Ive been hearing that he will move to safety for a team. The Chargers sure could need him.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:08 PM)

I don't he'll move to safety for another few years.

Joshua Williams (Lebanon, MO)

Hey Bill, how do you think the Chiefs would fair against a team like the jets?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:10 PM)

It would be tough, but I think it may be the Chiefs' best matchup in the first round. I think the Chiefs' defnese could control that game.

MJ (Boston)

speaking of pro bowl snubs? DeAngelo Hall is the worst player to make the pro bowl since 2006, when he made it with Atlanta. ....He's a human highlight reel for WR's i think he's been beat more times for catches and TDs than any other CB...he's terrible

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:11 PM)

Don't get Oakland fans started ... He was so bad as a Raider. He's very overrated.

Matt (Nashville)

How did Mariani get into the Pro Bowl over Jacoby Ford? I can't remember even one of Mariani's returns but I remember all three of Jacoby's. Was that a fan thing?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:14 PM)

He has a TD and a punt. he's been consistent, but Ford was also deserving. Fans only have a third of the vote.

Glen (MSP)

Falcons fan dropping in here on the AFC West blog. Happy New Year AFC Westers! How does Todd Haley not win coach of the year. Earlier this week I saw a Peter King write-up that did not even have him in the top 4??? Of all the organizations turning things around and getting things going in the right direction, his fingerprint is the most visible upon his respective team. Your thoughts?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:15 PM)

Welcome ... We'll have more on that topic tomorrow in my weekly column.

Michael (Colorado Springs, CO )

Is Mike Nolan on the radar for the Broncos, he seemed to be well liked when he was here.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:17 PM)

I woulnd't be surprised if he gets an interview.

Cody (Kansas City )

Do you think the Chiefs will be able to continue their success into next season? I have heard a lot of comparisons to the 08-09 Dolphins, and I just don't want to see us revert back like they did.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:19 PM)

I think this is a growing team and this division tkitle is really a bonus. The Chiefs have had an easy schedule which helped, but yes, it is on its way to a nice run I think.

phil (san deigo)

What areas do the Chargers need to address in the offseason and in the draft?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:20 PM)

Offensive line, defensive line, reciever, special teams players.

Gage (Kansas)

Other than Hue Jackson who else could replace Tom Cable as HC

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:21 PM)

If Cable isn't brought back, I think his only replacment would be Jackson. I think the only reason a change is made is if Al Davis panics and tries to block Jackson from going elsewhere, i.e. Denver.

Kyle (Berne)

Does Denver really have interest in Kubiak for Head Coach?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:22 PM)

I think he could get a look if he is fired in Houston.

Rodney (Mtn Home, Idaho)

Whats the chances the Raiders resign Richard Seymour?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:23 PM)

I think 100 percent.

MJ (Atlanta)

Did you get a chance to see Inside the NFL last night? They had a piece on Matt Cassel and sounds from Tim Tebow. I gotta say, that guy impresses me. If Oakland can find a long term answer at QB, every division game could be a shootout. I'm excited about the future in this division!

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:26 PM)

It has a chance to be good for a while in the AFC West.

Holt45 (Land of Oz)

Will Eric Berry get defensive rookie of the year? If not, who do you think gets it?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:29 PM)

A man named Suh.

Coatney (Birmingham)

I've heard Phillip Rivers being compared to Marino due to big numbers and minimal success in the playoffs. Do you think that's a fair comparison?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:30 PM)

Not yet, but it may be something he has to deal with. Remember, Dan Marino's bust in in the hall of fame. So, it's not all that bad of a comparision.

Joshua (Kansas City)

Do you approve of the way Todd Haley has broken down the season into 4 micro seasons? How will that affect any playoff run AND what happens when the league goes to an 18 game schedule?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:31 PM)

I think every coach breaks it down into four parts or at least every coach I have been around has.

Rodney (Mtn Home, Idaho)

I think the Richard Seymour trade as actually been better for the Raiders than for the Pats. What do you think? And what are the chances the Raiders will resign him. He seems like a real raider.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:34 PM)

He's a good Raider and a good player. But I still think the Patriots got the better of the deal ... New England has been to the playoffs both years without Seymour and saved a bunch of money, Oakland has won 12 games with Semyour so far and the Patritos get a first rounder. How did the Patriots lose that one?

Tod (Arizona)

Happy New Year Bill! You know what I love about sports? Eventually you have to prove it on the field. I don't know if Tebow is the next John Elway but I sure hope he has a good career so I can watch many of the experts back track. The start sure looks promising!

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:34 PM)

Yes, it's a results business. You can't hide.

Forrest (Indianapolis)

Is it just me, or is Charlie Weis not getting nearly enough credit in KC this year?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:36 PM)

I think Weis has been a big part of it. I think his impact has has been large.

Colin (Raleigh)

What do you think the Broncos can get for Orton next year?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:36 PM)

Probably a conditional 2 or 3.

Damon (Colorado Springs, Co)

Bill - Why did you avoid going to KC so much this year?? It seems like you are in California for the loser teams every week.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:38 PM)

I always seem to catch KC on the road this year. Just the way it has happened this season. I'll be there the next two weekends and look forward to it.

Gage (Kansas )

who could the Raiders draft in the 2nd round that could help this team now(asking for position not specific person)

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:39 PM)

OL, LB, S.

Jeff (Philadelphia)

Will the Chiefs get any national TV coverage next season?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:41 PM)

I'm sure they will get a MNF or a Sunday nighter ... Just a guess: Chiefs-Raiders Monday Nighter. Again, just a guess.

steve-o (upstate)

do you thing carl peterson could re-surface w/ the dolphins? the great play from guys like DJ, Bowe and charles has gotta look good on the old resume

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:41 PM)

There's bene rumros of that for a long time.

Joshua (Kansas City)

If you are the chiefs in the offseason do you use your draft picks to trade for experienced players at the few holes in the roster? Or do you try and continue to grab young players and turn them into decent players?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:44 PM)

Depends on who is availablke. But I think the Chiefs are in positon to keep adding through the draft for the most part.

Andy (Los Angeles)

I'm thinking that the CHiefs need to draft and OLB and/or a receiver who blocks well. What do you think?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:44 PM)

I have no problem with that.

Nick (Minnesota)

Hey Bill! Great blog btw, anywho, What do you think about Denver's o-line, is it gonna stay with the same group and let them grow together or blow up a once dominent line?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:46 PM)

I think it will stay toghter, but with what scheme?

jt (kansas city)

jammal charles is second in rushing yards, is tied with jim brown with the best yards per carry in the history of football... but why is their no love from the national media. here in kc, we see him as the best back in the league

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:46 PM)

Charles can open eyes in the postseason.

Peter (Overland Park, KS)

I don't remember the Patriots signing guys to extensions during the season when Pioli was there. (Although, I admittedly didn't pay much attention to them) Why don't more teams employ this strategy? It seems to have helped the chemistry and spirits in KC.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:48 PM)

I agree. It's been smart. It shows the players they will be rewarded for good work.

Andy (Los Angeles)

Why does Tamba Hali get, to quote a famous man, "no respect"?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:49 PM)

He's like Charles. He can open eyes soon.

Nick (Minnesota)

Broncos -Bears MNF next year?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:49 PM)

That would be juicy, too.

Gage (Kansas )

would it have been better for the AFC West if the game against Oakland and KC was for the title and if so would that have been the NBC Sunday Night Football game?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:51 PM)

It wouldn't have hurt.

TD30 (Orlando, FL)

Hey Bill, love the blog! Do you think Denver's run game suffers more from lack of talent at the position or is it just a product of the system. With that said, I think it's time to give up on Knoshow Moreno. What's your take?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:53 PM)

Moreno has to stay healthy and show he can get the job done on a regular basis. So far, he's been a bad pick.

Forrest (Indianapolis)

Do you expect Campbell to continue to be the guy at QB for Oakland, or is that a position they are still wanting to address?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:56 PM)

We'll see. I think he will be abck, but I'm still not sure he can be a consistent winner.

Nick (Colorado)

Wade Phillips Broncos next d-cordinator?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:57 PM)

The current talk is Wade going to Houston as DC.

phil (san deigo)

Do you think Ryan Mathews will have a break out game against Denver?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:58 PM)

I think it will really help his confidnece if he does. He's been good when healthy.

Matt (Nashville)

Of all of the games that you were able to go to this year, does one stick out more than the others, good or bad?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:59 PM)

TOP of my head: Opening night in KC and Oakland over SD in Oakland.

Suburban Rhythm (Pittsburgh)

KC run game vs Pittsburgh run D-- who wins?

Bill WIlliamson
  (3:00 PM)

That would be awesome to watch.

Matthew (KC)

Do you think the Chargers' unwillingness to make some changes with the coach and/or GM is foolhardy or smart?

Bill WIlliamson
  (3:01 PM)

Give me a year to answer that one,

Fascinating guy here (Willows)

Hey Bill , Great work. I just woke up and was wondering? When the the Raiders woop the tamohawks should I buy a round for my buddys?

Bill WIlliamson
  (3:01 PM)

I think they'd like that.

Biggs (Springfield)

After the chiefs have given players like DJ and Charles extensions, who is the next most important? DBowe or Hali?

Bill WIlliamson
  (3:02 PM)

Both.

Bill WIlliamson
  (3:02 PM)

Great hour folks, talk to you enxt week. Happy New Year.
