Greetings from frigid Chicago where it's supposed to be around zero tonight. Hopefully the Mavericks will stay as hot against the Bulls as they were against the Lakers. That was quite great and dramatic, don't you think?
DIRK- no offense to him, but when he became a free agent and was talked about, I just couldn't understand WHY everyone sees him as WOW instead of a good second piece to support... youor take?
Well clearly you ARE taking offense to him. And I'm not sure what you want him to be. He's an absolute matchup nightmare (As every NBA coach will tell you). He averages 25 a game, shoots a ridiculously high percentage. He's become a solid team defender. He's a lead dog in every way.
Hi Chuck, I remember when you were on the radio station in Philly back in the day. Do you think the Mavs have any interest in acquiring Iguodala?
19 years ago to be exact in Philly. No interest in Iguodala. Contract doesn't work, and frankly, he's not that good
Do the Mavs still have my contract rights?
No, but you need to get back to playing ball and stop with the other nonsense
How do you think that the Orlando Magic will fare down the stretch against teams with similar records as them (I.e. Chicago & Atlanta).
I think Chicago, when healthy, is the best of that group. I'm impressed that they have been able to hold it together, and indeed even thrive without Noah and Boozer for long stretches. I'm not crazy on Orlando's reliance on three point shooting, and while I love Horford, I'm just not a huge fan of Atlanta's talent.
All quiet on the Mavs front. Waiting for Feb 24 or thereabouts are we?
Back to the Magic... You are from Dallas. What is your opinion of former Maverick Brandon Bass?
I like him as a 20 minute a game guy. Mid range jumper is deadly. Not a particularly good defender. Love the energy he brings when he plays, but I think that works against him the more minutes he plays
what are the chances of the Mavs getting Stephen Jackson? and haywood has to go... he's a big body, but his awareness is terrible so he doesnt make great decisions.
I think it remains to be seen. A couple of things. One, Jackson is older and he has two years left on his deal after this one. Secondly, the Bobcats are playing better and are in the hunt for a playoff spot. I would think that if they traded Gerald Wallace then they might trade Jackson and just blow up the whole thing, but that may not be the case right now. And why would the Bobcats want Haywood, when they already have that same kind of center in Diop?
do the mavs still have the potential to do something against the lakers in the playoffs in a 7 game series
I think they do. The Lakers still haven't shown that they can play well against good teams (5-6 vs 500+ tams this year). The Mavericks ran them and got early offense that led to wide open shots. Also, Chandler played last night, but he's not fully recovered from his illness, and yet he was a huge factor in the 2nd half. Him healthy. Dirk at 100 percent (He's not right now), and even Haywood's availability gives them he length you need to contend with LA
Do you believe the Mavs have a chane in the playoffs against the Spurs or the Lakers. Whats the more likely scenario in your words
Of course they do? Why would you think they wouldn't. They've beaten them both. they seem to match up well with both (Assuming good health. No Dirk and a limited Chandler was a big problem in the two games recently against SA). So bring 'em on and see what happens
Thanks for checking in. We do this every Thursday at 11 AM CT. Hope you'll join us next week
