  (11:06 AM)

Sorry we had some technical issues. I had a great time shooting a new Hooters commercial yesterday. Hooters has done a grest job supporting the V Foundation, donating over $2.5 million over the years. Then I got home and watched Jimmer Fredette put on a show. Wow, what a great day! I am ready for your questions.

mike (ohio)

I think Jimmer is awesome , but talk of player of the year? He is playing in the little sisters of the poor league, how would he do in the Big Ten or Big East?

  (11:20 AM)

Hang on a second folks. Technical difficulties.

Ed (Charlotte)

Great game out of the Jimmer last night. How would you compare Jimmer to former Mid-Major star Steph Curry?

Dick Vitale
  (11:25 AM)

Both are prolific scorers. I think you have to look at a guy for his own self. I'll tell you this right now, Jimmer, unless he falters tremendously, is the player of the year. He's scintilating.

Brian (Ohio)

In your years of being around college basketball does Ohio State compare to any of the great championship teams of past?

Dick Vitale
  (11:26 AM)

Let's let them win the championship first, but I'd say right now that they have a championship team. They have a great team around Sullinger, but the rest of the supporting cast doesn't get enough recognition. They have some great players.

Tom (Greensboro)

How big was last night's game for Harrison Barnes?

Dick Vitale
  (11:27 AM)

I think this could be a confidence boost. He's certainly a PTP'er late in the game. He scored some points to get them a win on the road, a win that they really needed. You look at UNC, they're not where they want to be. They don't shoot to be mediocre. Their standard of excellence is very high. That was a major performance out of him in crunch time.

alex (NYC)

Dick Vitale
  (11:27 AM)

Wow. That's a great question. I don't know. Certainly a Jekyl and Hyde basketball team. They better put some points on the board, or they'll start to spell N.I.T.

Rob (Bridgeport, CT)

Do you think the national media is overlooking Uconn as a serious title contender? It seems that every game, they get a little bit better, yet no one believes what they see.

Dick Vitale
  (11:29 AM)

That's a valid point. I believe that. People are waiting for them to falter, but it's not happening. Jim Calhoun has to be in the mix for coach of the year. Kemba Walker was there for player of the year, until this push by Jimmer.

Patrick (Chicago)

Syracuse pretty much kissed the 1-seed goodbye with a 22-point home loss to Seton Hall, right?

Dick Vitale
  (11:29 AM)

Absolutely. I think you can forget a No. 1 seed. Losing three in a row. Losing is one thing, but the margin shows that the effort was not a Syracuse effort, especially defensively.

Dick Vitale
  (11:30 AM)

Right now, they're not thinking about No. 1 seeds, they're thinking about a W.

Terry (San Diego)

What did you think of BYU-SDSU?

Dick Vitale
  (11:30 AM)

Very impressive. The performance by Fredette was off the charts. SDSU is a quality team. It is a tough place for anyone to step in and get a W. Move over Danny Ainge! The best ever at BYU is Jimmer, baby, Jimmer!

Ryan (Pleasant Grove, Utah)

What will it take to get BYU a 2 or heaven forbid (non power conference) a 1 seed in the tournament?

Dick Vitale
  (11:31 AM)

I don't think No. 1 is going to happen even with a tough MWC. They just have to keep playing well. Go out and win their conference tournament. It's too early to start thinking about No. 1 seeds. Too many games left to play.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Who do you like to win Super Bowl XLV?

Dick Vitale
  (11:32 AM)

My choice is with Rodgers. He's been on fire. To do what he's done has been incredible to get them to the Super Bowl. Big Ben has been good with the Steelers, but I'm going Packers, 28-21.

Tommy (Detroit)

Can Tom Izzo get this team going now that Lucious is suspended too?

Dick Vitale
  (11:33 AM)

Lucious was a key part in them going to the Final Four. Talent wise, they have it. Coaching wise, they have it. But mental wise and psychologically they need to get into it. Never count out a Tom Izzo squad.

Kyle (Ohio)

If you had to pick one player to building your team around, would it be Jimmer or Sullinger.

Dick Vitale
  (11:34 AM)

That's easy. That's easy. I love Jimmer, but I have to go with Sully. Sullinger without a doubt. Basketball efficiency starts in the 3-second area. I can build around Sullinger much easier.

Matt (Cincinnati)

Dick,What are your thoughts on Xavier and the job Chris Mack has done this year? Are they a tourney team in your mind? Come back to the Cintas Center, its been too long!!!

Dick Vitale
  (11:35 AM)

He's had loads of injuries. That's hurt them big time. He's a solid team. He hasn't said anything about the injuires. I commend him.

Mike (South Bend)

Is this is the year the Irish put it together in March and get beyond the Sweet 16?

Dick Vitale
  (11:37 AM)

Mike Bray and Calhoun are the two guy in the Big East that are coming down the stretch for coach of the year. Ben Hansborough has become a star. Move over Tyler, Bennie is the new family star. That was a great win they had in Pittsburgh.

Tyler (ATL)

Dick, What can we as UGA fans expect from them next year and the rest of this year?

Dick Vitale
  (11:37 AM)

Heatbreak hotel against Florida. Mark Fox has brought energy to the program. Excitement to the program. I think he's done a lot better than we thought when the hire was made.

Morris Singletary (Ptttsburgh,PA)

Hey Dick I was just wondering is Pittsburgh still a final four contender because it just seems like everytime they get into march madness they lose in the sweet 16 or elite eight, but they have a light season schedule too, do you see them getting tested soon?

Dick Vitale
  (11:39 AM)

They lost a heartbreaker two years ago. They'll be one of the real leaders to get to the Final Four.

Chris (Lexington, KY)

Do you believe John Calipari when he says his kids are playing at 50-60% of their capability?

Dick Vitale
  (11:40 AM)

John is a master of trying to motivate and inspire. He's done a phenomenal job. That's one of his greatest assets. He's being John Calipari at his best.

Ben (NC)

Can Nolan Smith carry Duke the rest of the season if Irving never comes back?

Dick Vitale
  (11:41 AM)

Nolan Smith is surrounded by some good players. Singler is pretty good. When you have two of the best 10 players in the nation, you have a chance. They'll be right there as a contender for the title, but Irving takes them to another level.

Kris (CO)

With only an 8 man roster to work with right now in Minnesota, can Tubby finish the season strong enough to make the tourney this year?

Dick Vitale
  (11:43 AM)

To me Tubby Smith is a flat out winner. He'll find a way to get guys to contribute and they'll be a part of the big dance.

Peter (Austin Tx)

What happened to Pac-10 basketball?

Dick Vitale
  (11:44 AM)

It's all about recruiting. The talent level wasn't where it was a couple of years ago. They were hurt big time with losing guys early to the NBA. I think we'll see Arizona turn the corner. UCLA hasn't been UCLA. It runs in cycles.

Dick Vitale
  (11:46 AM)

Sorry for the technical problems early. I love talking with all of you. I look forward to next week on Thursday. Going out to Jayhawk country. I love doing games there. Kansas State is looking to redeem their season. They have the talent needed to win some games. If they have any thoughts of going to the NCAA tournament, they have put themselves in the situation of needing some quality wins. Bill Self was my midseason coach of the year, because any time you lose the guys they did and come back the way they did, it's unbelievable. If people want to help me raise $1 million for pediatric cancer research, you can go to my website, and buy my children's book, where all of the proceeds will go to research.
