Hi there. Let's waste no time...
As for the trading game, a name I haven't heard about for the Mavs is Taj Gibson. He fulfills their need perfectly for a good, young defender who can back up Dirk. Thoughts?
And exactly why would Chicago want to give him up? He's young, cheap, and good. Great backup to Boozer, and has been pretty darn good when he's had the chance to start. Especially against the Mavericks
Hey Chuck, what up?I can't wait to be back from injury and help win an NBA championship! But i'm a little worried. What are the chances that i get traded in the next few weeks? Shoot straight with me Chuck, 50/50?
You are a smart guy. I think you have assessed your situation well
Yo Yo Yo. You think the Mavs will give me another chance? I mean come on, I SUCK at shooting 3's but even i can hit more than Kidd! haha. i'll work for the minimum too. shoot, i'll work for food!(Answer... Mark Cuban will trade Dirk for Darko before signing you!)
Taj Gibson. Antoine Walker. Can we quote Lombardi. "What the .... is going on around here?"
The Mavs and Miami heat are complete opposites! Miami has big recognizable names that are in their prime. The Mavs have big recognizable names all in their twilight (Matrix, JET, Kidd, Peja).I know that its hard to get young stars in the NBA; but Cuban is pretty smart. After all these years, don't you think he would have figured out the formula by now???
Cuban also has had a team that has been consistently excellent, while the Heat have won and then lost 67 games, and now are trying to win again. I like the Cuban way. Give me a team that has a chance to go for it every year
I understand that Chandler's career high is only 27 points, and that he isn't going to go perfect from the floor and the line every night, but should the Mavs incorporate more Tyson into the offense? Use him in an inside out game with our best shooters surrounding him?
I would agree with you, especially since Chandler has become a good free throw shooter and is getting fouled a bunch. Just don't know that his passing out of the post would be all that great. But I love the play they run (Usually early in each half) where they will have Kidd screen down for him, and he pops out to the right elbow and buries the jumper. The success rate on that play is just off the charts
They have to be feeling better. They won a game where they couldn't shoot a lick, and they won a game when they shots lights out. They're getting healthier with Chandler's return and Dirk's, and now with the arrival of Peja and the return of Roddy imminent or relatively close, I think everyone has a spring back in their step.
Hi Chuck, starting five vs. starting five, could the Mavs beat the Spurs in a seven-game series?
Crazy question. The game isn't played that way. Everyone needs a bench. If you;re asking the Mavs top five players vs the Spurs top five. I believe they can
Baron Davis calls J.J. a flopper and then tells Carlisle to go eat some lunch... The coaches and players must be tired of Baron parading around at about 75% effort every night don't you think? Personally, it seemed to me that J.J. made the difference in that game.
Baron is a royal pain. If Blake Griffin didn't arrive on the scene, Baron might have totally checked out. Barea was terrific the other night, and has had a very good month. But Haywood was also excellent on the defensive end, and everything always looks good when guys make shots. And the Mavs made a bunch of them, especially on the second half
Coop, who do you see getting the lion's share of minutes guarding Martin tonight?
Either Stevenson or Kidd. I think you want to try to put a physical guy on him as much as possible, but you can't play too physical because he'll get to the line. In fact, among SG's in the NBA, Only Wade shoots more FT's per game than Martin does. Martin is 6th overall
Do the Mav's think jose Barea is their future popint guatd and he will take over when Kidd retires or are they going to draft one soon?
JJ is a good backup. He is not the long-term answer. The Mavericks hope Roddy Beaubois is that guy, but he may not be either.
Does the idea of catching the Spurs border on impossible, and is it going to even be necessary? The way I see it, if the Mavs want to go all the way they have to go through either LA or SA (hopefully not both) anyway.
Too far behind to win the West. Hopefully, don't have to go through both, but hard to see how that can be avoided. The Mavs just have to see if they can rediscover something close to what they had prior to Dec 27. If they do, they're a threat to anyone
What year do you anticipate the Mavs have to entirely restructure? Or with Cuban, do you think he will ever fully reface the Mavs?
Restructuring won't take place until Dirk has shown that he is in an irreversible decline. I don't see it happening for four years, at least.
Does Dominique Jones have starter potential for the upcoming years?
I think he does. he's a hard working guy. He spends hours working on his shot with the head coach. He can defend, and he obviously knows how to get into the paint. I think he has a future.
will peja be a stater for the mavs and if the mavs need to make a move do u think they would move terry if neceserry
Peja will be a starter at some point, if not right away. he'll take over the Pavlovic role (Which was Butler's role). Marion will still likely get the bulk of fourth quarter minutes because of his defensive ability. As for Jet, I don't see him being moved, especially now that he has reached the minutes clause in his contract, and with no proof yet that Roddy can handle anything close to what he does on a regular basis
Who is the biggest threat to the Mavs in a 7-game series? I say Spurs. They know the Mavs' strengths and weaknesses best and are a division foe.
The Lakers are still the biggest threat because of their incomparable length, and Kobe. As for the Spurs. The Mavericks know them just as well as the Spurs know the Mavericks. It's always a great series.
Marion will have games like he had against the Lakers when he's moving well and making his little turnarounds and layups, and then he'll have some where he looks terrible. Is it just a matter of more minutes, and do you think he is an important piece to this team's chances?
He's crucial to this team's chances. He's had a solid season. having said that, I don't want to see his minutes increase more because I think at this point in his career it takes something out of him on the defensive end, which is where the Mavs need him even more. The mavs need him to be able to guard the Kobe's Manu's and Durant's of the world. They have no player with that kind of versatility
will cuban stay put at the trade deadline and allow this team to gel and if not who goes and who do we get in return?
If I knew, I'd be headed to Vegas
I'm kinda new to ESPN online...but I've noticed an almost daily chat dedicated to the Mavs. Did Cuban buy the network?
Nope, but there is ESPNDallas.com where Jeff Caplan, Tim McMahon and I take turns each week talking about our favorite team
I believe this team can be just as successful the rest of the year as they were before Dec. 27th. I know the loss of Butler hurts, but he isn't Dirk important and not even really Terry important. He was a decent two-way player. I think their success really comes down to confidence and energy. Agree?
I agree. But their confidence and energy were off the charts when Butler was in there. he was playing at an extremely high level, and ready to provide the consistent second scorer that they have needed to go along with Dirk, as well as the toughness that everyone has said this team needed.
Why have the Mavs been so secretive on there injures this year? I mean Dirk had a pretty serious injury and they kept saying day-to-day....and as for Roddy they never really came out and said he re-injured it....also should they sit Dirk for another week or two until he is completely healthy....its been painful watching him 'jump' lately...
Don't know why they've been so secretive. Doesn't seem to benefit anyone. it's not like hockey where if you announce a wrist injury that someone just might take a two hander across the wrist. Dirk hasn't been Dirk since he's returned (Save for his game in Detroit), but I'll take him at 80 percent over anyone else full strength. Just his being out there forces defenses to have to react to him
They mavericks don't need one, but what is their relationship with the D-league and call-ups?
Donnie Nelson and Evan Wyly own the Texas Legends, but it's not as if every player on the team is Mavs property. The players on the team like Joe Alexander and Antonio Daniels are available for anyone to sign at any time
Any interest in Carl Landry? A great backup 4 that we could use and the Kings look like they are open to trading him so they can get something in return instead of losing him for nothing..
Don't think he's a better backup four than Marion. They won't go there, although I am a Landry fan. He has played poorly this year, however
is it worth the mavs to throw the rest of their games this season to get Jimmer in the NBA draft?
To quote Jimmy "PUHLEEEZE."
On that note... Mavs try to slow down Kevin Martin and the Rockets tonight at 7:30 at the AAC. Hope you'll join Brad Davis and me on 103.3 FM ESPN. and we'll chat again next week. Thanks.
