Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:00 PM)

Using Google Chrome for chat today. How different might things be? Let's see.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

Some ground rules: Super lengthy questions won't be taken on. I don't know who your team is drafting. I won't predict the order of finish for the AFC South in 2011. Player trades cannot be made until there is a new CBA. No, I don't think Jim Caldwell will be or should be fired. Onward.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Who do you think will win the Super Bowl?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

Leaning Packers.

Cam (UNC)

If March 4 comes and there is a lockout, is it possible they can agree to a deal on March 5 and there is no more lockout? How does that work after a lockout occurs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

It ends when an agreement is reached. That's not gong to be March 5, by all indications.

Simon Kuharsky (Down for a Nap)

Dreams of Jimmer Fredette filling the stat sheets!!!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

That could be you someday if you work at it. And if I get us a hoop for the driveway.

Marco (Memphis)

Hi Paul. Any idea when VY officially becomes an ex-Titan? And, bonus question: any predictions as to where he ends up (MIA; ARI; WASH; etc.)?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

Can be cut starting Feb. 7. I'd wait, if I was the Titans, until after a new CBA. Why let him potentially get a head start somewhere new before lockout?

bottom rack of dishwasher (below top rack of dishwasher)

go ahead and load me up , i will be gentle

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

You say that now....

Peyton Manning (Indianapolis)

Hey Paul! You see that I am the most powerful athlete of 2011? Lately I've been thinking about getting a little more into the media after retirement. ESPN offered me a local gig writing a blog about the Colts and our whipping boys the AFC South. Think this could lead me anywhere?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

Probably not.

David (Nashville, TN)

Paul, From what I am hearing Blaine Gabbert will most likely be taken by the 8th pick. I am not overly impressed with any of the QB's in the draft, but considering our need what percentage would you give of the Titans selecting a QB 8th overall?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Low. I think they take one of the second tier in the second. As of right now, that's my thinking, anyway.

Cameron (San Antonio)

How knowledgeable is Rick Smith in drafting a 3-4 front 7? Atleast Casserly admitted he didnt know how to draft 3-4 talent.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

No picks are made there that Kubiak doesn't want, and I would presume Kubiak will lean on Phillips regarding thumbs up/ thumbs down on 3-4 fits.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

Speaking of Houston's new 3-4, here's Bruce Smith on Wade, Mario and Houston's transition: http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/20819/bruce-smith-thoughts-on-texans-4-3

Jack LaLanne (The Hereafter)

PK, like myself I know you are a man of great strength and endurance. Please carry on my cause and accept my offer to endorse the 'Paul Kuharsky Power Juicer.'

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

Appreciate it. RIP. But I don't believe in juice.

Drew (Richmond, VA)

Will the Colts get rid of Anthony Gonzalez after this season for continuous injury problems and pick up maybe an Austin Pettis from Boise St. in a later round of the draft to fill the WR hole?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Why do they need to get rid of a guy because he gets hurt? Because you are mad at him? They aren't dumping hurt guys unless they think a contract is unreasonable. Sanders ranks way ahead of Gonzo.

Drew (Richmond, VA)

Bill Polian has said that there will be consideration for marquee free agent pickups this off season. After also getting rid of the long time running backs coach earlier this week could this mean a total revamp of the running scheme for the Colts? Possibly Ronnie Brown or DeAngelo Williams?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

He never said marquee, did he?

Harrison (Nashville)

Have the Titans started thinking about QB possibilities yet? If so, any indication they will be picking a QB 8th in the draft?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

Yes. No.

Trav (Knoxville)

PK, what do you think of CJ's 2500 yard prediction for 2011--confidence that Titans fans should appreciate or cringe-worthy idiocy?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

It's moving toward B.

Jimmy the Plowman (New Brunswick, NJ)

Paul, I bet you miss New Jersey winters?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

I drove through NB from South River to Somerset for school. I do miss Jack& Jill Hill behind my house with a tobaggon.

Felix (NJ)

let's say Carson Palmer does not end up on the titans, which veteran or Free Agent QB you see fit?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

Did a whole post Monday with six guys in my order, chief. Orton is second.

Phil Night (Oregon)

PK, as you know I'm a man of great wealth. I'd love to bring you on board my think tank to create more hideous uniforms and perhaps star in some new Nike ad campaigns.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

Don't you spell your name with a K?

Brent (Bethlehem)

what is the latest a new CBA can get done before they declare no NFL season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

Don't know, but it won't happen. Players will fold well before that.

Eric (Watertown)

Is there a time table Peyton has to sign by since there could be a lockout? Could he wait it out?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

He has to sign before the lockout, or after it. During it, he'll be locked out. They will probably franchise him, but the league and PA don't have an agreement whether that holds water or not once the deal expires.

Violeta (México)

Hi PaulDo you think Peyton will take a pay cut on his new contract to help his team to contract FA and re sign some of their own ?I think he wants to win another SB and the next one is in INDYThanks for your answer

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

It's not his job to manage the Colts' finances. He should make what he can and what he's worth.

Ben (nashville)

So why did the Titans announce that they would cut or trade VY? Didnt that just kill what little value that he had already?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

They needed resolution and closure, thus they were willing to sacrifice that minimal value.

Trav (Knoxville)

PK, I know Orton is on many Titans' fans radar for a possible trade, but I haven't seen much of him. He started out very well this season (and helped me win several fantasy football games!), but why did he fade in the latter half of the season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

He didn't play as well and the Broncos were stinky.

mo (NYC)

can u think of any big name free agents the colts will target during the offseason after they resign manning?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

Just names: Braylon Edwards,. Matt Light or Logan Mankins, Jeremy Trueblood,

Brian (BORO)

Are their any serious names in the mix for Titans assistants.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

Missed this in announcements: If I had news, I'd get it on the web site, not save it until someone asks me about it on the chat.

Dick LeBeau (via mobile)

Hey Paul, any chance the Titans hire me?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

Nope. Why would you come to Nashville. For the great job security?

Tony Jr. (Somerset, NJ)

Hey Paul. Tell me you wouldn't love to be back in Jersey tonight, driving on slushy Route 1 or Route 18, attending a Rutgers hoops game?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

The good old RAC.

Eddie (White House, TN)

If you were replaced with Andrew Dice Clay, would we know the difference? just asking?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

Well, I am peaking and he is washed up. Also, I don't work blue.

James (Indy)

Pauley, any truth to the rumor that you passed on the cameo for Hangover 2 so they went and got Bill Clinton instead?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

How did that get out?

Harrison (IU)

How did Steve Underwood and Mike Reinfeldt convince Bud to get rid of Vince?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

Logic, I presume, with a splash of finance.

Kate (Indiana)

Pat McAfee worked out with Columbus Crew, and just announced his Comedy Show tour for March. Which is the better lockout option?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

Why not double up? I thought the comedy stuff was a joke.

Joe (philly)

Any word regarding a contract extension for Arian Foster?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

Why give him a bonus check now, when there is zero chance you don't have his rights when new CBA is finally reached?

Bill Polian (Indianapolis)

Paul, do you think I should invest in free agent OL or go after guys CB, WR, or LB types that can also play special teams? Thanks!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:21 PM)

I'd go O-line first, WR second.

Nate (Bay Minette, AL)

Any 4-3 free agent linebackers that seem like a good match for the AFC South teams?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

David Harris could play anywhere in my opinion. Chad Greenway could easily be a Jacksonville target.

Mangini (3-4 Defense)

I know the Titans are not converting to a 3-4, but just for kicks, which current Titans if any would be best suited to succeed in the system?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

Ford, probably Morgan. Jason Jones just because he's good.

Chris Johnson (Orlando)

Do you see me getting elite RB money ($40m guaranteed) when a new CBA comes in?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

From the Titans?

Joe (Pittsburgh)

How concerned should Colts fans be with the WR situation...Reggie is getting long in the tooth, Collie is always getting concussed, Garcon flashes awesomeness then drops easy passes, Clark is older as well, Gonzalez has played about as many games as my grandmother has in the NFL, and Blair White doesn't make defenses scared. Is this a concern?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

I love how two concussions is "always getting concussed." They need another good WR for sure.

Jeremy (Houston)

Owen Daniels has been plagued by injury and will probably ask for a decent amount of money..Do you think Owen Daniels will be resigned?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

Not for the kind of money he's hoping for.

NOTAN03 (Michigan)

In your opinion, what are the Jags top 3 needs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

S, QB, LB.

Aaron (Nashville)

Does Reinfeldt keep his job if Fisher loses his?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

Yes.

Drew (Richmond)

$2.76 million for a reciever who hasnt caught 10 balls in the past 2 years? (GONZO) seems a little unreasonable especially considering after the new CBA rookies could be making little to nothing... i'm not mad at Gonzo he did great when he was healthy then again so did Bob Sanders... almost $3 mill seems like a lot to warm a bench again though.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

That's not a lot of money. He hasn't caught balls because he's been hurt -- and not on purpose. You make it sound like he can't produce, and we know he can. Again, they aren't going to cut him because you're pissed.

Drew (Nashville)

What does Fisher have to do to get a contract extension next season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

Post a winning record, minimally, probably get to playoffs, ideally win a playoff game.

Rick (Huntsville, AL)

Paul, you said you would wait on releasing VY, but doesn't he have a hefty roster bonus coming up?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

Which won't be paid while players are locked out. Unless he miraculously had contract working that says "March 10" instead of on "the fifth day of the league year."

Jeff Fisher (My BigTime Mansion)

How have I kept my job when everyone else gets fired and the Titans are crumbling?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

Yeah, how did he stay when Del Rio and Kubiak got canned. What? Wait....

Tim Graham (AFC East)

Pete Kuharsky, you're so fat that when you went outside wearing yellow a bunch of school kids tried to board you.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

I don't wear yellow. And are you claiming to be slim? I've already been hitting the gym, chief.

Drew (Nashville)

I've been under the impression that your instinct told you there's be no 2011 season; one of your previous answers suggests the players will cave...so what odds would you give us having football this fall?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

Your impression is wrong. There is no way there will not be a 2011 season. There will be football, it's just a matter of when opening day is.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

Do you think Gene will make big FA moves (if and when he can) to give JDR a fighting chance at keeping his job? If his BAP is QB in rd 1, even with a stud DE and LB on the board, those positions must be filled in FA. Otherwise you acknowledge rebuilding and a season w\o playoffs.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

One or two moves akin to Kampman and Osgood.

Maurice Jones-Drew (via mobile)

You ever seen a guy backpedal with a torn meniscus like I did?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

You embarrassed yourself.

Ben (Nashville)

Do you think that Jeff Fisher would have been fired this year if the CBA wasnt an issue? Also of the QB's in the draft which do you think would be the best fit for the Titans?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

It's not the CBA that saved him, it's his contract and Underwood and Reinfeldt.

jo (indy)

why does the colts special teams coach still have his job?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:34 PM)

He was working with guys off the street. You understand that right? If the fourth strong safety is starting, he's no longer a special teamer. So the fifth-stringer is. And if that's the case at a bunch of spots as it was, odds are special teams will stink.

Rick (Huntsville, AL)

Heard any rumblings of a contract extension (prior to lockout) or franchise tag for Jason Babin? I would hate to see him follow Washburn.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

I see very low odds of anyone re-signing anyone ahead of a new CBA. Except, perhaps, Manning. Franchise tag's durability is unknown.

Chris (Ann Arbor MI)

with all of the linebacker's the Colts have do you think they could make the switch to a 3-4? i

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

Why? Freeney is the best end in the league and Mathis is top five. Why mess with their positions. Everyone is dying for their 4-3 teams to become 4-3, logic and personnel be damned!

Radio guy (Nashville)

Love when you are on the radio with Frank, Mark and crew. What are the chances of you getting a spot on the 3HL? Or are you afraid Mark will eat your lunch if you moonlight?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

My Nashville radio wagon is hitched to the The Wake Up Zone. (Non-Nashville folks: 1045thezone.com, 8CT Tuesdays, 7CT Thursdays, 8CT Fridays. Someday Baby Bird may fly, but Howard will have to stop standing on my foot.

Brent (Bethlehem)

How bad is the personnel on the titans defense? Was firing chuck cecil the answer? or is the defense full of players that were good once and have lost their touch (not all are bad, just most)

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

Washed up wasn't the issue, except for maybe Hope. Coaching was partly at fault and Cecil paid for it. Player evaluation was poor and they thought they had more than thy did. (If only they'd listened to me.) And player performance was poor.

Chris (Memphis, TN)

In order who would you resign for the Jags? Marcedes Lewis, MSW, Kirk Morrison, Justin Durant?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

Lewis is the only guy who would really hurt to lose.

Steve (Longview, TX)

Are Long and Thomas that good that Roos and Stewart will never see a Pro Bowl or All-Pro status?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:41 PM)

Roos has been. Those guys can certainly challenge.

Jay Cutler (Rehab)

Don't appreciate the tweets calling out my courage, PK. I know it was you who hacked all those guys' accounts!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

Actually, I defended you quite staunchly.

James (Indy)

Pauley...a rabbi, a priest and Paul Kuharsky walk into a bar.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

I'm hooked, keep going....

Dustin (Stanford CA)

Which AFC South players do you see breaking out next year? (like Arian Foster this year)

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

I'll go with Brody Eldridge for a second year in a row. Damian Williams.Maybe Earl Mitchel.

Ed Hochuli (Via Mobile)

15 yard penalty for all the 3-4 / 4-3 defense questions. Is that a Chat or a defense coordinator's conference?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Yes. Yes!

Dustin (Stanford CA)

Hey Paul, do you think any of the safeties the Titans have drafted in the past few years have a chance of taking Hope's job? (Rolle, Johnson, Schommer)

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:45 PM)

Doubt it, but possible with second-0year jump. I wouldn't go into camp with no other alternative.Order them Schommer, Johnson, Rolle right now.

Keenan (Muncie, IN)

Hey PK, its my understanding free agency will not work after March 1st when the CBA expires. I'm I mistaken in thinking that the NFL hands out compensatory draft picks for lost free agents? With the draft still going on, will that just not happen this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

The compensatory picks are based on last year's free agent losses. I don't know for sure, but I don't see why there wouldn't be compensatory picks in 2011 draft for 2010 losses.

Matt (WI)

You could argue that the Packers have the best secondary (and highest paid), do you see an Asomugha signing in the future for the Pack?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

If they have the best secondary, why wouldn't they address spots of greater need. They also aren't big free agent spenders. So no.

Brent (Bethlehem)

(follow up question from titans defense issue) when you say "player performance was poor" are you implying that the players weren't playing to their potential or the talent just isn't there (btw did griffin even come close to deserving probowl status?)

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

They overrated their players. And some of those players, while overrated, made things worse by not playing as well as they could have.

Dustin (Stanford CA)

Is this the year Justin Gage finally gets cut?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

One can hope.

Dan (Raleigh)

I've got important issues, Mr. K. Do I go with a Alualu or Pot Roast jersey for next year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

Take your wife out to a nice dinner and dress for games as if Halloween is just one day a year, that's my proposal. What would happen if you didn't wear a jersey?

This is Peggy (remote location)

Would you like to redeem your bonus points now?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

I have to say, I always thought you'd be prettier. That commercial really spoils you for me.

Mike (H-town)

What are the chances of the Texans getting Champ Bailey? If he is still any good...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

He's still good. And I'd rate the Colts as the third-most likely team to get him ... in just the AFC South. Irsay tweeted no way for Nnamdi. Clearly they won't make the big venture into free agency at cornerback.

Pat (NJ)

does it bother you when people ask you which QB the titans will get l;ike your some kind of fortune teller?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

As far as they know, I know all.

Titan Question (Nashville)

In your opinion do the Titans have the best WR ( taking depth into consideration) corp in the AFC South? If not who does?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

Lacking anyone with anything close to the consistent excellent production of Johnson or Wayne, absolutely they do not.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

I have to apologize: I've got nothing. No real interesting take on anything, nor much wit to offer for the chat. You deserve better.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

I like to think I do.

Scott (Denver)

Most inconsistently talented player in the South? Or if you look up Mike Sims-Walker in the dictionary...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:55 PM)

Griffin would be high on the list too.

Curious minds want to know (Nashville)

Chat question count today?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

242

Mike (H-town)

Would Andre be a big playmaker in the Pro Bowl (again) if he was playing? Sad that he isn't though. Will be watching Foster & Leach...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

Boy you must have some serious time to waste.

Justin Bieber (Canada)

OK, settle this once and for all...better Super Bowl hair: Clay Matthews III or Troy P?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

I am ineligible to answer that.

James (Indy)

You know, Pauley, some people would look at this glass and say hey, it's half empty. Others would say ya know, that puppy is half full. I peg you as a half-empty kind of guy.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:57 PM)

Actually, I think it's three-quarters empty.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:57 PM)

Where is my end of chat guy?

Chris (Memphis, TN)

If "The Commish" only makes $1 next year where does the other $9,999,999 go?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:58 PM)

Right back to him in a bonus after the lockout ends, I suspect.

Troy Polamalu (The Shower)

Paul, the Head-n-Shoulders folks want you booked for my next commercial.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:58 PM)

Call me.

Gus Johnson (Fired Up)

Kuharsky, fading back to pass...roles to his right...finds the end of the chat....and.....TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott (Denver)

Fisher is smarter than me, but shouldn't he be playing Javon Ringer more and saving CJ?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:59 PM)

Saving him for what? Ringer is overrated by the Titans.

Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)

We have illegal chat procedure against James from Indy for never submitting the punch line to his joke. There's a 10 second run off. The chat is now over

The End (Near)

See ya!

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:00 PM)

Bye all, enjoy the weekend.
