Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Jesse (San Diego)

With the possible departure of both Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd, do you see the Chargers trading up in the first round to snag Julio Jones? Will they NEED to trade up to secure his services?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

The Chargers have the No. 18 pick, so yes, I think they will have to trade up if they want Jones. It would be surpirsing if he got past St. Louis at No. 14. I think the Chargers want to keep Jackson and Floyd for this year, but I could see Jones being very attractive to the Chargers, so, yes, I could see San Diego trading up to get him.

Ryan (Antioch, CA)

If the Raiders are able to keep Nnamdi, will they keep Routt as well?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

That might be difficult. CBs are popular in free agency and Routt had very good stats last season. I could see a team overpaying for him.

Miguel (San Francisco)

Hello Bill,How do you think the team will respond to Hue Jackson as the Head Coach?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I think it will be good. The offense responded well to him last year and I think he has earned the respect of the entire team.

Ryan (MT)

What FA do you think the Raiders will resign? Nnamdi, Bush, and Miller would be my top 3 what do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

I think Seymour is in there instead of Bush. Here's mine:AsomughaSeymourMiller

Brett (Apple Valley, CA)

Hey Bill, get some rest this offseason (if thats possible). Question, should the Chiefs look to get a bruiser for running back to take the load off of Jamal Charles? Get some to take 200 carries rather than stay with Jones because he seemed to dwindle as the season went on.

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

I think Jones is still in the Chiefs' plans for 2011.

Joey (Tucson)

Hey Bill! What's going in regards to my Raiders search for a DC? Any rumors?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

The rumors are Wisnton Moss and Darren Perry, two Green Bay assistants. So far, they are just rumors.

Luis (Bechtelsville, PA)

Do you think the Raiders can win the division next year with the team they currently have?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

Yes, but I think we have to see how free agency plays out with this team before we make any calls. Things can drastically change.

tim tebow (fla)

what is the chance I am starting openibg day for the broncos?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

I'd say 70 percent.

Michael (Bay Area)

When Al Davis is finally out the league for some time, would you say he is a lock for the Hall of Fame?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

Mr. Davis was inducted into the hall of fame in 1992.

Steven (Denver)

Hey Bill,A lot of the Mock drafts I see have the Broncos taking Nick Fairley. Do you really see him as the inside force that Suh is for the lions or should we look for a pass rusher to help Elvis out?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Fairley would help Elvis tremendously. He'd help the entire defense.

S (Denver)

Now with the free agency about to begin, what players do you see John Fox bringing over from Carolina? I think DeAngelo Williams, Charles Johnson & James Anderson as great fits for the Broncos. Your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

I think Fox would be interested in all of these guys.

Trevor (NY)

Now that both Clinton Portis and Champ Bailey are both past their prime and their careers are coming to a close, who would you say got the better end of the deal? Neither team had any real play off success in the last 7 years.

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

Bailey is going to the hall of fame. Portis is not. Denver won that deal.

Steven (Denver)

Hey Bill, I don't see the Broncos offense falling off too much next year and with a big draft and some improvement on defense, any chance the Broncos finish 8-8 next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

The defnese would ahve to imrpove very, dramatically.

Trevor (NY)

IF Denver signs Brandon Lloyd to an extension, what kind of deal do you think he will get?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

It's difficult to figure this, because he is already 29 and he has only had one good season. But he is a free agent after next season, so the Broncos may want to do something with him.

Richard Seymore (Oakland)

Do you honestly think the Raiders would give up a FIRST round draft pick just to let me walk?????

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

Do I honestly think you would misspell your own name?

Jack Hoffer (Kansas)

Early super bowl 46 predictions? who do you got BW?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

Just for kicks, reserve right to change often:Atlanta vs. New York Jets

Sean (Canada)

Bill, if the Raiders have another promising draft, re-sign 'glue guys', pick up an impact FA here or there, are they a playoff team? I've been waiting nine long years. What do you think Bill?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Those are a lot of ifs, but if they all happne, for sure, playoffs.

Victor (Sacto, CA)

So Cam Newton nails his performance today. Any chance Carolina reach for him @ #1, freeing Denver to take Fairley with the # 2 pick? Any chance DENVER takes Newton if there @ #2?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

It's very interesting, Victor. I just heard Trent Dilfer (who is a brilliant QB student) say Newton was tremendous. If Newton continues to have great workouts, he'll zoom up the draft board. Quarterbacks tend to get overdrafted, anyway. So if Newton looks great in the next two months, I could see him being a possibility in Carolina. That would be great news for Denver. The Broncos would have their choice of any defensive player on the board.

Jason (Vegas)

Best TE in the AFC West would be?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Antonio Gates.

Mike Munchak (Nashville)

I am looking for a quarterback? Any reccomendations?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Kyle Orton?

Adam (Irvine, CA)

Hey Bill in regards to the coming draft for the Chargers what side of the ball do you think they will address, defense or offense in the 1st round?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

I think they will be flexible and play off the board. They could use a WR, DE, LB, RT.

Al (Wausau, WI)

Bill, do you feel the Chiefs will likely be a playoff team in 2011?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

The keys are Cassel's progress, another receiver, another pass rusher, another O-lineman.

Bob (San Diego, CA)

Bill - rumors out of SD with the Bolts discussing Nnamdi. Wouldn't Champ Bailey be a cheaper alternative. And for a guy like Bailey if the dollars make sense, don't the Chargers have one the one thing in football that is needed - a QB?do not - the QB position.

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

Bailey would be cheaper than Nnamdi, but he wouldn't be cheap. I think the Charegrs feel good at CB and probably won't be players for Bailey.

tyler (sun valley, Id)

any chance the raiders make a move to get in the first round?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

I could see it if they fall in love with somebody, but at what cost? You can't keep risking the future. Ultimatley, I think that decision would be made during the draft.

Julio (Morgan hill california)

Why wouldn't the raiders try to pick up Shaun rodgers

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

They have a similar player in Tommy Kelly.

Aaron (TX)

What are the chances that Malcom Floyd could be in a Chiefs jersey next season? Would he be a better target than Breaston?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

I like Floyd a lot. He is a special guy if he cnan stay healthy. He'd be a great fit in Kansas City. Breaston is a real possibility too because of his Cardinals' connection.

jacorey (stockton)

if terel pryor go to draft is he there in the 3rd round for the raiders

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

He didn't enter the draft.

Rob (Aurora, CO)

How about Shaun Rodgers in Denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

I wrote about it last night. I could see it happening. Could be a fit.

Richard (Greensboro, NC)

Odds we have a CBA in place by the draft? After today's update it can't be anything I would want to bet on.

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

I'm an optimist. I think there will be a new deal by mid-March. The deadline is in three weeks. There's time. It's stupid that they are walking away from the table, but there's time.

jim (sf)

Raiders let Gallary walk? Sign Mankins?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Sure, but Mankins will be expensive. Okaland has a lto to work to do in free agency, so signing a big-money player like Mankins could amke it difficult to sign other players.

Rob (Aurora, CO)

Hi Bill! True or false. Josh McDaniels was secretly trying to dismantle the Denver Broncos from within. Evidence? Cutler trade, Marshall trade, Hillis trade, two drafts, "losing" Josh Barrett to Patriots by not following normal protocol with IR guys, trading a draft pick for Maroney, and so on, and so on.

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

I don't think it was his plan to ruin a franchise and be fired. But yes, he ruined a franchise with one lame decision after another.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Best pass rusher in the division? Elvis, Tamba, Seymour, Shaun?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

I'd say Hali or Dumervil. I'd go with Hali now because he's healthy.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

Will the chargers change their policy on being non participants in the veteran free agent market, and maybe bring in a veteran Safety, 3rd down back, DE?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

I think not making the playoffs will make San Diego realize that it needs to get more aggressive. in free agency. The Chargers won't need to do a lot in free agency, but more than nothing would be nice.

Jason (Wichita, KS)

Veldheer, Mankins, Rookie Stefen wisniewski, Bruce Campbell, and Gaither... that would be a great line right for oakland? and Richard seymour, Tommy Kelly, Shaun Rogers, and Lamarr Houston great offensive and defensive lines

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

How about Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson and Clay Matthews, too?

Robert (New Mexico)

Is Jason Cambell done in Oakland following this season without a playoff berth??

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

If he doesn't make big strides, yes. He has one more year on his deal.

Scott (Denver)

Can't wait for Shannon Sharpe's HOF speech. Could be an all-timer.

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

It won't be short, that's for sure.

jacorey (stockton)

santana moss in silver and black

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

I could see it. He'd fill a role and he has history with Jason Campbell and Al Saunders.

Von Miller (Hopefully San Diego)

I think they want me... And I think they will get me.... your thoughts..

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

The Chargers will have to move up from No. 18 to get you.

John (Neb.)

Do you expect to see Demaryius Thomas fully healthy and ready to contribute next season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

Thomas has had trouble staying healthy. But if he can stay healthy, I think he will be an impact player. He has great skills.

Chad (SoCal)

Champ stays or goes??

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

it can change, but my guess right now is he goes.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Would a 4-3 def cause Elvis to regress, or do we trust John Fox?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

He was good in Shanahan's 4-3 system, so he should be OK, even though he is probably best suited for the 3-4.

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Great hour, everyone. Talk to you next week.
