Thanks for being here for our weekly MMA chat. Hope you enjoyed our live coverage of UFC 126. All of the post-fight interviews have been posted here at ESPN.com/MMA. They are also available on my Twitter feed, @Jon_Anik. Let's vent.
Hey Jon, got a ton of stuff to get to today I'm sure. What do you make of Rashad saying "Bones" will "smash" Rua??
Certainly thought it was an interesting verb choice. But it's not a statement made b/c they are teammates. For a lot of these fighters (Rashad, Brian Stann), they have never trained with anyone as gifted as Jon Jones. Rashad wouldn't have said it unless he believed it.
2 hours today right?
You know it. Working from home today and we don't tape MMA Live until Friday, so I've got the time. I would love to go long every week, but schedule doesn't always allow it.
u do 1 hell of a job ......#thatisAll
Appreciate cha! Haven't been to Lynn, MA since Eddie Andelman took me to lunch there in 2003.
Jon, you know Rashad, tell me this just recent rumored fight of Evans/Rampage 2 is false. One reporter says Thiago Silva is withdrawing and Evans is taking his place.
We shall see. I can assure you that eventually a 2nd fight b/w Rashad and Rampage will happen. Too billable for the UFC to not put that together.
Jon, since I told you last Wednesday that K-Flo would not fight Guillard since he is moving to 145. Who would Kenny like to fight? Mendez, Poirier, Griffin?
I'm sure we will spend a lot of time on this today. Kenny's decision to move down to 145 couldn't have less to do with ducking Melvin Guillard. Guillard is a great matchup for Kenny and a very winnable fight. He just saw a much shorter path to a title shot at 145. And, after consulting with several nutritionists, they determined he could make the cut.
Nice call on Kenny never fighting at 145
Believe me, I had a great source saying it would never happen. Things took a turn about 2 weeks ago, when I first got word that Florian was considering it. At that point, I was told his next fight would be at 155. Things changed quickly. Kenny knows I don't agree with it, and I'm not the only one. But he is the most disciplined and motivated guy I've ever met. He'll find a way to make the cut.
You know we love you, BUT you were wrong on K-Flo. Is he not keeping you in the loop anymore?!
He didn't think it was feasible and gave me that assurance. Never meant to steer y'all wrong.
Jon, I wasn't inferring he was ducking Guillard. Come on, K-Flo fought BJ for goodness sakes. All I was saying was that fight wasn't happening because he was moving down to 145 lbs.
Gotcha, bud. That is correct. I thought if he stayed at 155 and fought/beat Guillard, he'd be right back in the mix for a title shot.
So, Cowherd and Schlereth have network tv shows in development. Why not Jon Anik?!!
Hadn't heard that. Let's get 'Anik Dotes' going.
Jon - great job on MMA live. Really enjoyed the post-fight show after UFC 126 this weekend. Do you think TUF would ever film on location and do a Team Jackson's vs. Extreme Couture etc.? or AKA vs. ATT?
Great idea. Not sure how feasible that would be. Also not sure the UFC would be down with showcasing certain gyms over others. But I love the idea. There are certainly a lot of lesser-known fighters at those gyms that could take advantage of that opportunity and exposure.
Admit it, K-Flo is upset that you love Bones more than him so he kept you out of the loop.
Hahahahaha. You nailed it.
so who was it that rolled into rashad?
Can't say, my man.
is Jake Shields jiu jitsu really that far ahead of GSP's?
Jake's jiu jitsu is among the best in the world. GSP's submission defense is great, but his offensive execution of submissions is not on par with Shields'. That said, I'm told GSP has improved immeasurably since failing to put away Dan Hardy last March.
Hit for a nice payday on Anderson...No striker at 185 is close to him..or 205
Good for you. I thought a Jones-Silva parlay was the easiest money on the board.
Do you also see Edgar dropping to 145 if he loses to Maynard?
It's certainly an option. And Edgar would have a far easier time cutting to 145 than Kenny will. But Frankie is committed to staying at 155, ideally as the champion. I'd be surprised if one loss led to a drop down in weight class.
what do you think of the reports that rampage was too out of shape to take the shogun fight next month?
They are accurate. That's exactly what he said. And for those of us who saw him this weekend, he's huge and wouldn't be able to effectively train/cut for a 5-round title fight in 6 weeks. Rampage is a high-profile, wealthy fighter. He isn't a young, hungry fighter who stays in fight shape year-round, with the ability to accept any fight on a moment's notice. It's too bad that's not the case. But he made the right decision.
Anderson Silva: Best fighter of all time. Your thoughts?
Do you think GSP is going to win his next fight?
Yes I do. I expect Shields to be far better than he was in his UFC debut, a narrow win over Martin Kampmann. But GSP is just on another level.
First fights of the tourney. Who you got to win?
For Strikeforce this weekend, I've got Andrei Arlovski and Fedor Emelianenko. Arlovski seems to be in a great place mentally and I think there is some value on him at even money. Fedor simply has to beat Big Foot. And he will find a way.
Is Forrest Griffin really as good a guy, as he seems to be?
He's a nice guy, albeit a bit whimsical. Not always the easiest guy to interview, b/c rarely does he want to talk about MMA or answer questions directly. But Saturday night was the most we've ever gotten out of him, and I enjoyed it.
Who does GSP get next if he beats Shields? Has to be Fitch if he beats Penn, but what if Penn wins? Would we get a third GSP v. Penn fight?
If GSP beats Jake Shields, the next fight would be the mega one against Anderson Silva. Dana White wants the fight. Anderson Silva would assuredly accept the fight. It'll all be up to GSP.
Jon, what do you think is next for Vitor?
Perhaps Wanderlei Silva. Maybe even Chael Sonnen, upon his return.
who has the best shot at taking out jon jones? no way i see shogun being able to stop him
Cain Velasquez. At 205, I think the only real threats to Jones are Shogun Rua and Lyoto Machida.
whats next for forrest? i think he looked quicker than ever and it threw franklins game off.
Forrest looked terrific. As for a next opponent, a lot of the 205ers are locked up right now. Stephan Bonnar isn't, but it may be too early for that fight. Perhaps his opponent could come out of the Matt Hamill-Phil Davis scrap.
Jorge Santiago - A Big MMA free agent on the market, Where does he end up ?
Am I the only one who would rather see Bones Jones vs. Silva instead of GSP vs. Silva? I don't think GSP will be as effective at middleweight, while I think Silva is still a force at LHW.
You are not the only one. That is for certain. I just think a fight between GSP and Anderson Silva is more realistic right now. It's not out of the question to see Silva fight Jon Jones before he retires. What a fight that would be.
MMAweekly is reporting Evans vs Rampage in May!
What do you think of dana sayin rashad has too many friends in the UFC? true right
I have had the same solution for this for 2 years. When a fighter signs with the UFC, he needs to list the guys he won't fight. Then, if he links up with a camp and gains a bunch of new friends/training partners, too bad. I know it's easy for me to sit here as a non-fighter and say that. But to me, it's the only realistic solution.
Quick disclaimer- taking a dig at me within your question isn't likely to have it answered.
What is your prediction for Schaub / Cro Cop?
Schaub to finish him. Schaub was awesome on our UFC 126 preview show. Certainly earned himself a trip to Bristol.
Just wanna throw it out. Jones is a big favorite at - 230 already.
I saw it most recently at -185, but I trust some websites have Jones as big as a -230 favorite. I have been saying for 8 months that Jon Jones should be favored to beat any 205er in the world. That doesn't mean he will beat Shogun. It just means that Las Vegas agrees with my reasoning. And you all know who I think is gonna win.
Would Rashad fight Jones for the LHW title if the fight was offered to him?
Predicting right now that Rua derails the Bones Jones hype train. Too much, too quick for Jones and Rua is a monster.
I will take your action.
Rashad waiting for a title shot really backfired if Jones beats Rua? Saying he won't fight Jones if he wins, he'd have to change weight classes to win a title.
...and I think Rashad is prepared to drop down to 185 if Jones is the champion. The decision did backfire, but Evans couldn't have foreseen that he would get injured.
what will rashad do if jones wins the title?
Likely move down to 185 or bide his time at 205 until the title picture changes.
Do you like Rashad at 185 or HW... Everyone seems to be on the MW bandwagon for him...
Middleweight. He wrestled at Michigan State at 174 lbs.
GSP-Silva superfight is almost certainly a year off. Will I ever fight Silva again? Will anyone care at that point?
Clock is ticking, but I do think that rematch will eventually be made. And I will care.
If Shogun loses, could we see a rematch with Forrest?
i heard that it was jon jones that rolled on evans in training
Re: Rua being a monster, the dude definitely is a great fighter. But did you see those two standing next to each other in the cage? And Rua had shoes on. Jones looked like he was at least one entire weight class larger than Rua.
Jones' combination of size, athleticism and MMA skill is 'scary', according to Brian Stann. Now that Jones is addicted to training, he's just such a handful for anyone at 205. Could Shogun catch him? Sure. It's MMA. Anything can and does happen. But it's certainly not my expectation. Shogun will end up on his back.
I thought everyone wanted to be the best in their field. That's human nature. This junk about I won't fight my friend is bogus. Look at Gatti-Ward. They like each other but kick the crap out of each other.
Fighters say fans just don't understand. But overall, I agree with you. Other sports certainly don't have this problem.
if Rampage is so big, why doesn't he fight at HW?
Because he'd get manhandled. He's just out of shape right now. He's not a hard 250.
ryan bader vs forrest griffin
Traditionally, the UFC doesn't match up a fighter who has won his last fight with a fighter who has lost his last fight.
Any defense for the judge that had the Ellenberger fight 30-27 in favor of Rocha?
What sense does it make being a professional fighter and then saying that you won't fight your friends, long time or newly made? Its your job, it puts food on your table and you can always remain friends after the fight is over.
No argument here. Stephan Bonnar and Forrest Griffin are extremely close, yet they would fight each other again in a heartbeat. There is no UFC fight Stephan Bonnar would turn down. Not a one.
Fedor or Big Foot... Lay it on me... Leanin' toward Big Foot but he's been boring lately...
Just can't get that visual of Big Foot struggling against Mike Kyle his last time out. It's just the wrong time to be fighting Fedor. I give Big Foot about a 30% chance to win.
Why wasn't the MMA Live post fight show on ESPN UK last weekend? even after is was plugged a few times during the pre fight special.
I was told it aired twice on ESPNUK. First airing was scheduled for Sunday at 1AM GMT.
Forrest didnt seem that excited about giving Bonnar a 3rd shot when you brought it up.
I didn't read it that way. I think they both know it's an eventuality.
Is Anderson Silva's size simply too much for GSP to handle?
I don't think so. It'll be a lot bigger Georges St. Pierre if/when he fights Anderson Silva. I fully expect GSP to be able to take Silva down.
How about taking a question from a Nathan NOT in Columbus?
Hahahaha. Sorry, boss. I just try to pluck and answer questions as quickly as possible. Don't mean to play favorites.
JA - Sorry we missed each other in Vegas. Does Fitch follow Shields (assuming a win over BJ Penn)? Who else is there to throw at GSP?
It'll be Anderson Silva. If GSP decides he doesn't want that fight and wants to stay at 170, perhaps it'll be Fitch (with a win over Penn) again. Or maybe someone like Carlos Condit.
Buy or Sell: Condit vs Lytle = FOTN
Just not sure it'll last long enough to be fight of the night. Sell.
Scale of 1-10, how crazy was Silva's front kick KO?
9.5. The only reason I would even consider putting Anthony Pettis' off-the-cage kick ahead of Silva's kick is because of the timing- the Pettis kick happened in the 5th round of a title fight that was hanging in the balance. Otherwise, gimme Silva's kick, which landed 100% flush, all day.
better jiu jitsu roger gracie or g-sot?
Florian considers Roger Gracie to be the best grappler in MMA. He would know better than I.
Who would you say has more to lose (GSP or Silva) if this superfight comes to fruition. One of their reigns is about to end and I see possible retirement for either if they lose.
I'm not so sure either guy would go out with a loss. I think Anderson Silva has more to lose. He's the guy who has never lost in the UFC. And he's not the one who is moving up in weight.
There is always 1 HUGE upset each year. Who will be the man to shock the world this year??
It seems as though there are always a few huge upsets every year. Hard to pick one of the fights that is already confirmed. Perhaps it'll be Clay Guida against Pettis? Nah. I'm not sure.
How much bigger did UFC 128 get by subbing in Jones over Evans? It has the same card, save one fighter, yet it feels like more of an event now.
Jon Jones is the most intriguing name in MMA right now. His presence gives the card an appreciable boost.
Rashad/Rampage 1 was pretty boring. After the "incident" in the club this weekend, are those guys going to go out there and actually live up to the rivalry (a la Varner/Cerrone 2)?
I think we will see a more exciting fight the second time around, but I wasn't nearly as critical as you were of the first fight. I think you'll see a much different Rampage, b/c he won't be dealing with such a massive layoff.
Whats danas email
You want his celly, too?
What weight does Florian walk around at?
Varies. He's about 180 right now.
What was the "incident" between Rashad/Rampage this weekend?
Supposedly they got into it at a bar a little bit. Google might help ya.
better striker anderson silva or badr hari?
Good question. Anderson Silva is perhaps the more versatile striker, but watching Hari is a thing of beauty.
What do you think of Jon Jones Submission game?
Isn't a blemish on his resume if GSP ducks Spider?
At this point, GSP will certainly be criticized if he dodges that fight. Whether it's fair or not, the hype and build-up for that matchup is so strong already that GSP would take some heat were he to decide to just stay at 170. That said, St. Pierre is hyper-focused on his legacy and wants to go down as the best of all-time. Must beat Anderson Silva to earn that distinction.
who else is on the next ufc card?
Go to ESPN.com/MMA and click on MMA schedule link at the top of the page.
Jon, when is Seagal coming to the UFC? I want to see some more secret techniques!
Pretty incredible that Anderson Silva gave him credit for that kick.
Over/under 2 million buys for GSP-Silva and do you think the fight would take MMA to the next level?
I'd like to see the PPV numbers for UFC 126 before answering what is a great question. I think it'll be right in that ballpark. I think 126 will come in over 800,000, which is hugely impressive. As for the fight taking MMA to the next level, I'm not sure one singular fight will propel MMA into a permanent spot on the mainstream sports landscape. But the momentum right now is on a consistent (if not exponential) incline, and that fight would get a ton of mainstream attention.
where's court mcgee been lately? still no fight announced for him anytime soon
Saw him at the roulette table this weekend.
Chost, great work last weekend! New Years Eve is on a Saturday this year. Could this be the prospective date for the Silva-GSP mega-fight, or would GSP need more time to bulk up?
You'd have to ask GSP. I think, if he beats Jake Shields, he will make a definitive statement immediately following the fight, or shortly thereafter. I'm quite confident St. Pierre has already decided what he wants to do with the latter half of his career. As for New Year's Eve, we'll see. I think there are better dates for a mega-fight.
Given how slowly the UFC brought Jon Jones along, are you suprised that they are giving him just 6 weeks for a title fight? Was there any options of moving the fight back?
Would've been tough to come up with a new main event for UFC 128 with only 6 weeks to go. And, given Shogun's already lengthy layoff, he needed to fight that night. Thankfully, Jones came out of the Bader fight unscathed and in position to accept the challenge.
If GSP wins and fights Silva at 185, does he vacate the belt?
How is Juniors english these days? Are we gonna hear him or a translater during TUF? When does it start?
To answer the previous question, yes. GSP would vacate the title. As for Dos Santos, his English is already pretty good. He comprehends almost everything- just a matter of tightening up his speech. I think he's already easier to understand than Nogueira, who was subtitled when he was a coach on TUF. Season debut is March 30th.
How much more than $200K do you think Silva actually made for his work on Saturday? I'm guessing he was between $750K - $1M, just from the UFC.
He gets a percentage of PPV buys. And I'm quite certain UFC 126 did a huge number. The Spider will get paid.
Who do you see the UFC matching Ryan Bader up with now? Where is his stock at these days?
Perhaps someone like Rich Franklin. I still like Bader a lot at 205. I think that performance was more a by-product of the opponent, Jon Jones.
What happens to GSP if he loses to Anderson? Does he go back to WW?
GSP has said any move to 185 would be a permanent one. If he lost to Anderson Silva, I'd expect him to fight at middleweight and try to work his way back to a rematch.
Buy or sell, Silva vs. Evans at 185?
Sell, now that Rashad will reportedly step in for Thiago Silva against Rampage. But, could a Silva-Evans fight happen down the line? Sure.
I heard Hendo was trying to get into the heavyweight GP. What do you make of it and would he be a threat had he entered??
It's the truth. Part of the reason Henderson signed with Strikeforce was with the hope that he would eventually get a fight against Fedor Emelianenko. I don't like Hendo against a guy like Overeem or Josh Barnett. But a fight with a smaller heavyweight like Fedor has some intrigue. And certainly intrigues Dan.
The UFC has offices in Europe and Canada, where do you foresee the next expansion for the company heading?
They are in a lot more places than that, John. It's an empire. Pretty impressive.
Have you heard any rumors on how the new TUF season is shaping up?
Nope. But they are keeping Lesnar happy, which is vital. I'm sure they wanted him at UFC 126. Didn't see him there.
Rashad vs Rampage in a back alley, no refs who wins this one?
I think the unified rules help Rashad. But Evans was a great street fighter in his day. I've heard some stories, so don't want to sell my guy short.
what do you think of Fedor questioning how Overeem gained so much weight so quickly
Alistair Overeem will be at ESPN all day tomorrow. We will tape a quick hit with him for MMA Live and I'll also do a 15-minute podcast with the Reem. That is one of the questions we will ask him. As for my opinion, not surprised Emelianenko would resort to that tactic. I didn't blame Floyd Mayweather for doing it with Manny Pacquiao and I don't have an issue with Fedor, either.
If you have more questions for Overeem, send them my way on Twitter (@Jon_Anik). I will choose the top 5. Must be following to have your question considered.
Hey Jon, who hits harder, Fedor or Henderson?
I don't know. Much of power is generated by speed. As far as pure, natural KO power, I'd say Hendo.
how can i get on mma live to talk to you guys in person
Become a pro fighter and do very well.
Jon,Dana White sold the Okami/NATE fight to the fans and fighters as a title eliminator and promised Yushin a title shot-- Isnt it unfair he is changing his mind now?
Perhaps. But life is unfair. I think we've all been promised something at one point or another that didn't come through. Dana White is the promoter and, like it or not, reserves that right. Circumstances oftentimes dictate matchups and title shots.
Buy or sell - Flo vs Aldo in Rio
Sell. Florian won't make his featherweight debut until June or July. I do think he is one win away from a title shot. But August would be ambitious.
MMA in MSG- Main Event 2012- Silva vs Jones?? PLEASE!
Thoughts on Matt Hughes training with BJ for his upcoming fight with Fitch?
Pretty cool. Hadn't heard that. Hughes was at 126 last weekend.
What happens if Bones beats Rua AND GSP beats Anderson...Rashad's "buddies" hold belts in both of his divisions?? Does he just quit MMA, lol.
Wouldn't that be something? I think Evans would rather stay at 205. So, if GSP held the middleweight belt, you'd see Rashad as a light heavyweight. Thankfully, Rashad has already been to the top. I'd feel worse for him had he never won a UFC title.
Hey Jon, McNeil disagreed with you a couple weeks ago that Mitrione wasn't a top 10 UFC heavyweight, just wanted to say I agreed with you and would like to see who he ranks above him.
I probably was wrong to go at McNeil that hard, b/c he may be right. My top 10 UFC heavyweights, off the top of my head: Velasquez, Dos Santos, Lesnar, Carwin, Mir, Nelson, Schaub, Struve, Mitrione, Kongo. I'm sure I forgot someone.
Do you see Fitch doing anything differently against Penn in an effort to increase his chance at a title shot?
Fitch has completely remade his body, cut meat out of his diet, etc. Perhaps we will see a quicker Fitch who is a tick more aggressive. I don't have any problem with Fitch's style. All he does is win.
Who's next for Meathead?
Maybe Ben Rothwell.
come on Jon. I know you play Call of Duty!
Can't say that I do. I'm a Madden/sports game guy, but haven't played in ages. My wife is actually a hardcore gamer. Plays all those crazy games like Final Fantasy and Dragon Age. Weird.
what MMA blogs do you usually follow?
I read a lot of them. Sherdog's Fight Finder is my greatest resource when prepping for the show. MMAJunkie format is also reader-friendly. But I'm most thrilled that ESPN has hired 3 full-time MMA writers and beefed up the content quite a bit. More to come here in 2011.
you forgot Nogueira
Yes I did, even though I'm worried for him to fight again. Dude is fried.
Thiago Silva denies injury and will fight Rampage http://www.tatame.com.br/2011/02/09/Thiago-nega-lesao-e-vai-lutar-com-Rampage
We will see what happens. Appreciate you passing that along.
Silva/GSP fight would take place in Vegas, Montreal or New York?
Vegas, unless New York was an option.
Big IF, but IF Guida beats Pettis, buy or sell him fighting for the title?
I think you'd have to give him a title shot, but that would seem a bit strange.
What happened to Jake Rossen?
Finally got an email response from Rossen. Told me to tell you guys he's 'navigating some issues' and hopes to be back soon.
is japanese mma dead?
Not dead, per se. But struggling. Will be interesting to talk to Alistair Overeem about it tomorrow.
Is it a huge advantage for GSP to fight in Canada?
No. At this level, the crowd can only be so much of a factor. It's nice that he doesn't have to travel. But the crowd would not be a major disadvantage for Anderson Silva, were that fight to happen in Montreal.
Who would you like to see Torres fight?
Urijah Faber. I know Faber already has a fight, but that's the fight I want to see.
Jon--Long time! Who has MMA Live been aggressive trying to get on the show without much success so far? I would love to see Forrest come to Bristol and sit along side Bonnar for an entire episode.
Nice to hear from ya. The only person we've really gone after hard who hasn't been in Bristol in some time is Frank Mir. He was one of our lead analysts when we launched the show, but the man just doesn't like to fly. He's a huge addition when he's on the show. Great analysis and a dynamic personality. I'm sure we can get Forrest to Bristol at some point. But doesn't strike me as his thing. Doesn't love talking about MMA, whereas a guy like Bonnar eats it up.
Is anderson silva the only fighter that can challenge bones jones?
No. I think Shogun will be a good test. Also think Machida poses some problems. And, of course, some heavyweights would make for great fights against Jon Jones.
Do most boxing writers dislike MMA like Dan Rafael does?
I think so. Some are more respectful towards MMA.
Did Nathan from Montreal get me blackballed from questions, Jon?
Certainly not. We've had 1,800 questions our first hour. Doing the best I can.
How about Cowboys Stadium for GSP vs. Silva? Would be worth going just to watch it on that screen.
Would love that. And you can be sure, Dana White and the Zuffa brass has already thought about it.
name the fight that most interest you in all of mma?!?!
I'm still dying to see Bellator MW champion Hector Lombard and Bellator LW champion Eddie Alvarez fight in the UFC. So curious how they would fare. But right now, the fight for me remains Anderson Silva-Georges St. Pierre. Only one can emerge as the #1 P4P fighter in the world. I need to see it.
Mayhem vs. Nick Diaz
That fight is definitely on the short list. Must-see TV.
When are we going to see Koscheck back in the ring?
It's gonna be a little bit to let his face heal up. Perhaps August or September.
Jon, Dana White said he's open to 5 round fights for non-title fights for main events. What's your take?
I'm glad Dana is open to it, but it's not necessarily his call. More an athletic commission issue than it is a promoter issue. But Dana knows what MMA needs as much as anyone, so not surprised he would be in favor of it.
Tatsuya Kawajiri - Best chance at Success in North American MMA ? Am I wrong ?
Of all the Japanese fighters, he's the guy I would most like to see crossover into the UFC or Strikeforce.
How awesome was Cowboy this saturday? Also how big of a punk move was kelly for punching him when he went in to tap gloves? Also who does he fight next?
Still didn't see what Paul Kelly did. We had just gotten off the air and I was still on headset getting instructions from the truck. As for Cerrone, what a warrior. Love that guy. Found out about the death of his grandfather 20 minutes before the fight. Same thing happened to me at UFC 113 in Montreal. A little different, b/c I'm not a fighter, but the show must go on. I'd love to see Cerrone face a legit contender, perhaps the winner of Siver-Sotiropoulos. Or maybe Mark Bocek, should he get by Ben Henderson.
Where do they draw the lines on 5 round non title fights? What happens if there's a co-main event?
A lot of issues with it, Evan. Sounds great in theory, but you're right. Where do you draw the line?
Would it shock you if Pettis was 155lb champ by the end of 2011??
I am hearing people say Hominick will be able to challenge Aldo when they square off...I am not seeing it, Aldos game is just so far ahead. Or am I wrong here?
No. Nothing shocks me in MMA anymore. That scenario is highly plausible.
No. Nothing shocks me in MMA anymore. That scenario is highly plausible.
I don't see it, either. Hominick is as confident as he is technical. But I just don't see how he can handle Aldo's speed, explosiveness, and ability to come at you with all limbs from all angles.
is the bobby lashley expirement done?
I think so. Talk about a blast from the past.
what would bring in Bigger PPV Numbers Jon - Brock vs Fedor or GSP vs Silva ?
At this point, I would say GSP-Silva. Perhaps I respond that way b/c the buzz right now is for GSP-Silva. But it still remains to be seen as to what kind of PPV draw Fedor Emelianenko is.
now that mma live tapes on friday, u ever gonna do a marathon chat like u said in the past?
At least I'm able to go a full 2 hours today, bro. Really depends on what my Wednesday looks like. Heard from a lot of folks who said my buddy Dan Rafael was giving me heat last week! I will never get to his level. Oftentimes I have to tape fantasy football/baseball shows or other videos on Wednesday, so I can't hang around.
do you think any MMA matchup would be able to draw 2m PPV buys? I don't think so.
It is unlikely. But there is so much steam behind Anderson Silva-Georges St. Pierre right now that if the UFC decided to also feature Brock Lesnar on that card, I think you could approach 2M buys.
With a win over Rua, does Jones crack the top 5 p4p?
Do you think Kenny wishes he'd ditched that silly sport called soccer and wrestled in high school and college instead?
I like the question, but Kenny loves soccer and is very prideful about his time playing for Boston College. That said, wrestling is a hard skill to master in your 30s when guys like Chad Mendes have been on the mat since age 5.
Cain/Overeem Cavalcante/Rua Silva/Jacare Diaz/GSP Edgar/Melendez clean sweep for UFC or no???
Definitely not a clean sweep for the UFC. Cain would have his hands full with Overeem, as would any heavyweight. Also think Melendez would be a live dog against Edgar. Fun to think about.
Other than Fedor, do you see any other Strikeforce guys that the UFC will actively pursue?
They aren't pursuing Fedor right now. I think there are a handful of fighters on the Strikeforce roster the UFC would be interested in- Melendez, Josh Thomson, Nick Diaz, Jacare, etc.
Sorry you're not going Saturday. I'll hoist a proper pint in the parking lot for you!
Appreciate it, my dude. I have a ticket. If I can somehow get this shift covered, I will book it to New Jersey.
Cerrone/Guillard sign me up!!!!
Works for me.
Florian Vs Mendes for a Title eliminator ? Does Kenny over come his kryptonite ?
That fight is a distinct possibility, as is a fight between Florian and Dustin Poirier. I'd like to see Kenny fight Poirier, but you can be sure he would derive a lot of pleasure out of fighting and beating a great wrestler.
is there a fight out there for bonnar?
They can always do a 3rd fight between Bonnar and Forrest Griffin, but something tells me they will wait on that. As long as Stephan gets a reasonably big name, he'll be satisfied. But that said, he will never turn down an opponent.
I'll take either your ticket or your shift if I could work for ESPN
Hey Jon! You think GSP loses to Shields on purpose just so he doesn't have to fight Silva?
Ha. Definitely not.
The REEM picks Kharitonov to crush Arlovski:"He's a teammate, he's a strong guy, hard punches. I don't see (Andrei) Arlovski even denting him"
I'll hit him again on that tomorrow. Kharitonov is the favorite.
Who are your two favorite flat-out brawlers to watch?
Carlos Condit and Eddie Alvarez. That's just the quick answer. The list is long.
Cerrone + Guillard Team Jackson no teammates fighting = bad for us fans....
Cerrone has been at Team Jackson forever. Guillard has been there less than 2 years. I wouldn't be totally shocked if the UFC tried to make them fight.
I want to see Cerrone vs GST.
As do I.
Got to say I am not even interested in Silva vs GSP...silva would crush him .....silva vs jones or jones vs cain are the only 2 super fights I would go nuts for
You are not alone, Pete. I don't agree that Silva would crush GSP. Florian certainly disagrees with you. Bonnar agrees- just doesn't see how GSP wins that fight. I just hope we get 1 of the 3 fights you mentioned above. Jones-Velasquez is destined to happen one day. Both are still very young in their careers, whereas GSP and Silva are nearing the end.
Great chat today! I thought Cerrone still wants to fight Cole Miller (Although Miller lost to Wiman).
You'd have to think Cerrone is on to bigger and better things. But we'll see.
Any chance the UFC could do a loose team concept for a PPV like North America vs. South America/Europe/etc? They did it a few years ago with USA vs. Canada and the card was pretty good as I remember it.
It would be very loose and it would have to be the perfect storm. UFC 117 featured 5 Brazilians against 5 Americans and even then, the UFC didn't call it Brazil vs. USA, if I recall.
Do we see Miguel Torres rediscover his killer instinct with a better matchup or have his last two losses changed his strategy going forward?
Ran into Miguel shortly after our broadcast in the lobby of the Mandalay Bay. Spoke for about 10 minutes. He's in a tough spot. His heart says go crazy and be reckless and entertaining. But he's got this fat scar on his forehead, courtesy of Joseph Benavidez, reminding him to fight to win first, entertain second. I loved seeing him jab his way to a win and I was far more entertained than most. This is the Torres we will see going forward.
you're going to get me fired with this long chat.
Stay with us.
Bonnar vs Evans !!!!!!!
Makes some sense, doesn't it? Still not sure Bonnar is high enough on the totem pole to fight a guy in Rashad, who is essentially the #1 light heavyweight contender. But we talked about it this weekend off the air. And Bonnar would like that fight.
Ricardo Arona - Gone Forever
What are your thoughts on the recent facebook streams? The ability to reach 600 million people is a smart business move if you ask me.
Nothing dumb about it. I was just happy that Dana White still was gracious enough to come on our MMA Live preview show, even though we went head-to-head with the Facebook stream.
Buy or Sell? Silva vs. Okami in Rio, then Silva vs. GSP Super Bowl weekend 2012?
I like the way you think, Jeff. May want to chat with us more often. I'll buy it. But having Silva fight Okami is a risk the UFC may not want to take, in order to make sure they preserve the mega-fight.
Jon, lovin' the extended chat today! Once again, proving you're the best MMA analyst in the biz.
Too kind, Ash.
Word is Guida is getting personal with Pettis on there upcoming fight. Thoughts?
I think that is a smart tactic and part of the game plan. Guida has been known to flap the gums a little bit in the past. He's gonna be a decided underdog. Why not?
Just got same bad news at work about a client....but hey at least I have a 2 hour Anik chat!
Tighten up, dude! Close the deal.
How is Josh Gross doing in your opinion at ESPN ?
Great. He'll be in Bristol this week. Excited to have him.
There are a lot of quality reporters on the MMA beat, but only a select few are actually gifted writers. Gross is among those few. And as a former print journalist myself, I have a huge appreciation for good writing.
Speaking of flapping gums, any thoughts on Chael's seriously premature smack talking?
Can't change people. His gums flap 24/7. And I wouldn't have it any other way. For me, Sonnen went from wildly entertaining to a bit over the top/annoying. And now he's back to wildly entertaining.
When will the UFC come to Pittsburgh?
I hope soon, Shaun. I get asked about it at least once a week.
Opinions on Jordan Breen & Luke Thomas Jon ?
Two of my other favorites. Both are great ambassadors for MMA. I've been on Luke's show a few times. Still waiting for a call from Breen.
Jon what were your favorite Super Bowl commercials this year?
Honestly, I pulled an all-nighter on Saturday and flew back to Connecticut early Sunday. So I barely remember the big game. I think there was a Teleflora one that was a keeper. Doritos did well, too.
better MMA moment Pettis kicks Hendo or Rampage slams Arona?
Tough call. Few moves in MMA get me going like a good slam. Just not sure we will see the Pettis kick again. Slams happen frequently, albeit not that violently.
VW's mini Darth Vader commercial was a slam dunk as well!!
Why has the HW division in the UFC gone down in talent?
Just because guys like Todd Duffee and Pat Barry have failed to live up to the hype. Hopefully, a few guys on the way up, like a Brendan Schaub, can help resuscitate it.
Any word on negotiations for Hector Lombard or Ben Askren joining UFC?
Not happening anytime soon. Both are under contract with championship clauses and both are well taken care of by Bellator.
What do you think of Phil Davis v. Matt Hamill winner up against Forrest Griffin?
Makes some sense. Just not sure Forrest would accept a fight against Phil Davis if he turned down a fight with Jon Jones.
Hey Chost... Looking ahead, what could be next for BJ after he takes out Fitch? (Which I think he will do).
If he beats Fitch, he will have a lot of options. I still would like to see Penn against Thiago Alves. Were GSP to vacate the welterweight title, Penn would be in a terrific spot.
The Reem vs Fedor...who ya got if it goes down?
Please, God, let that fight happen. I like Overeem, I guess. Just want to see that fight so damn badly.
Koscheck vs Penn if he gets by Fitch
Good option there.
Bellator - Why out of all the nights to run a live MMA show would they pick saturday nights Jon ?
Obviously, it'll be tough on certain nights going head-to-head with the UFC and/or Strikeforce. But most importantly for Bellator, they have a consistent, live time slot. Perhaps Friday nights would've been better, but I think it's okay.
Has MMA ever seen a rising star like Jon Jones before?
Vitor Belfort and B.J. Penn had similar hype behind them at a young age. I'm just not sure we've seen a modern-day, freakish athlete like Jon Jones grace MMA with his presence.
Your dark horse to win the SF GP? I say Kharitonov. I could see Del Rosario making some noise as injuries are bound to happen when the big boys slug it out.
A lot of people like the Russian, provided he can get through his fellow Russian this weekend. I don't have a darkhorse. I think the winner will be either Fedor, Overeem, or Barnett.
So let's say Bones wins (as you are so sure of), and Rashad won't fight him so he moves to 185...thoughts on an possible fight with Silva?
Firstly, let me just say while I am supremely confident in Jon Jones, I have never discredited Shogun Rua and wouldn't be totally shocked if he found a way to win. My point all along has simply been that I wouldn't FAVOR any 205er in the world to beat Jon Jones. That opinion dates to August and is unchanged. Now, to your question, I don't forecast a fight b/w Silva and Jones. I think Silva is content to stay at 185 until he retires.
Rampage is next in line as long as he beats Rashad. Bones-Rampage would be a great fight.
The UFC would love to get Rampage back in a title fight.
Jon your old Bellator season 1 co host Jason Chambers. Is he still working with Shine fights ? What is he doing now ?
No longer with Shine. Just had twins.
Hypotheticals abound: Bones and Rampage both win their next fights, do they fight for the title?
What happens if Rashad moves to 185 and GSP defeats Silva. Would Rashad fight GSP?
Yes on Rampage-Jones if they both win. No on Rashad fighting GSP. Not goin' do it. Wouldn't be prudent.
Who is this Eric guy from NY/NY?
Hahaha. He's quick on the trigger, I guess. We are approaching 3,000 questions. Appreciate the great turnout today.
Any word on Wand? How bout a fight with him and Bonnar. That would be a slugfest!
Different divisions. And since my weight-cut guarantees have been so good, I will guarantee you that Bonnar will never fight at 185. He is huge. He's bigger than Brendan Schaub and a lot of other heavyweights.
Think the weight cut affected Vitor at all?
Hard to tell, but don't think so. I think Anderson Silva affected Vitor.
Will you work on Fantasy Baseball this year?
You know it.
Shogun was Jon Jones before Jones was Bones after he won the Pride MW Grand Prix in 2005 at age 23. Beat Rampage, Lil Nog, Overeem and Arona in a 5 month span. The hype was huge, called #1 or 2 P4P behind Fedor.
do you think kflo would beat aldo. i think he dominates him
Think that would be a very tough fight for K-Flo. I know what the game plan would be. Just not sure I'd pick anyone at 145 to beat Aldo, even Florian.
Fantasy Baseball is lame! Fantasy football is where it's at !
Football is certainly my preference. Baseball gets very tired w/ 162 games and daily transactions. With ya!
Hominick defeats Aldo, 2nd round TKO, you heard it here first. Oh, and there's your shocking upset.
A signed photo of the MMA Live crew comes your way if that happens. Isn't that exciting? No? Would you rather a Jon Anik headshot? I have a lot more of those.
Chuck Norris, Coach Ditka, Jon Jones. Colosseum rules. Who ya got?
Do you think LW's such as Florian and Griffin are being pressured by the UFC to move down to Feather given the lack of big names there?
Pressured? No. But I can tell you that once Joe Silva got word that Kenny was entertaining the move, he went full throttle with his endorsement. I was right there when Silva and Florian had their conversation. The matchmaker was geeked.
Jones vs Cain in over/under 2.5 years?
You must think I'm really smart. I'll say over.
Vince from Omaha needs to put the lid back on the paint...
Pound for Pound - Best MMA fighter as an actor (Couture in Expendables doesn't count) and GO!
Rampage kills me, but still haven't seen the A-Team. I will say Stephan Bonnar. Comedic value high.
Jones and Davis as the two biggest stars in MMA by 2013. Yes or no?
Very feasible. But both are in the same division, so it might be tough. Both have star quality and ability.
Shocking upset...Jake Shields over GSP, 3rd round submission.
Just don't see it.
How are MMA events in person? Attending my first one next month in Newark.
You have no idea. The UFC is the greatest live show in sports.
Hey, I waste every Wednesday on this chat while "working". Obviously you must be doing something right
Have you started catching up on Lights Out?
No! Not yet. Must.
Brock Lesnar was an actor for years
I love Brock.
Jones Will be one of the best when its over, But he doesnt get passed Rampage if they fight!
How does Rampage get his fist on Jones' chin?
Did I miss Bonnar telling fans where to get those Trash Talkin' Kids shirts?
Hop on Twitter and search for Trash Talkin' Kids. He showed me a whole bunch of cards in Vegas. Hysterical. What a tremendous idea. Bonnar is an entrepreneur.
Do you think Anderson is kidding about Steven Seagal taught him the kick?
No. Perhaps giving him an undue amount of credit, though.
Jon older fighters like Ken Shamrock, Gary Goodridge, etc Should they stop being sanctioned to fight in smaller MMA shows ? In my opinion it's getting quite sad and could be a huge black eye for MMA .
Shouldn't be sanctioned. Dangerous.
I want to thank you for allowing me to steal some of Matt from NJ's thunder. I know him personally and it means the world to me.
On the subject of the Trash Talkin Shirts, I can only find Koscheck online. What other fighters has he done?
I know designs have been made for Brock Lesnar, Bonnar, Rich Franklin, Ryan Bader, and several others. Kenny Florian's is in the works as well. Damn funny stuff.
what do you think about fighters not fighting each other from the same camp? ex rashad says he won't fight jones if he wins the belt. to me i am tired of this crap. they are grown men . who cares if hes in your camp. you're a professional fighter act like it. its like saying peyton manning and eli say they won't qb their team when they play each orther. its stupid
We addressed this a ton earlier in the chat. I have an issue with it, but I'm also not a fighter. Scroll up in the chat to read a more detailed response, cool?
Mighty Mouse vs Torres who do you have winning the fight
I think it would go down similarly to Torres-Banuelos, with Miguel keeping Johnson at bay with the jab and picking his spots. I'd actually like to see that fight.
Which fighter is the toughest to interview? Cain has had some terrible interviews.
If Jones and Evans win their next fights who does Jones fight next??? Cant be Bader, Jackson, Rua, or Franklin. Won't be Evans. Shouldnt be Machida. Where else cant the UFC go for his 1st defense?
Contenders always seem to emerge. Could feasibly be Thiago Silva. Could be Machida, even though I tend to agree with you. Let's get through March 19th first, shall we?
The Natural. Dirty Boxing at its finest!
Thanks for the extended chat Jon. Why doesn't somebody (Dana, Rogan, etc.) call Silva out on the English deal? It's really annoying!
You think it's an act? His comprehension isn't nearly on the level of a guy like Junior Dos Santos. If it is, he puts on a great act. All blank stares when I posed questions this weekend, whereas Dos Santos is nodding the whole time, completely locked in to what I'm saying.
Jon- actually 5 round fights are totally a promotions call, all they have to do is petition a commission for it. According to Josh Gross and Jordan Breen, any commission will accept a petition for a 5 round non-title fight.
Will take their word for it. But either way, it's a tough precedent to set. As previously stated, where do you draw the line?
Want to bet lunch on Shields/GSP?
Sure. You can have Jake.
Bones didn't walk out to your jam. Disappointed?
Yes. Not sure what his choice was, but it rocked. Meant to talk to him about it when I saw him at Luxor later that night. Forgot. Hopefully, Poe's 'Angry Johnny' will make a return appearance at some point.
NO, Strikeforce wanted that for the HW Grand Prix and dealt with a ton of issues with commissions
2 hours Chost? Wow. You been hanging out with Rafael lately?
Dan has a lot more freedom in his post than I do. Glad to go long whenever I can.
Is Stephan Bonnar the greatest comeback story in the past year or so? I truly thought he would have been cut by the UFC before he started winning again.
Greatest? I don't know. It's a nice comeback story but Bonnar would tell you he was never all that down.
How is Bones in person? Seems like a nice kid, albeit a little cocky.
He's great. Confident kid, for sure, but we've developed a great personal relationship and I respect him a great deal.
Woah. I'm late but I'm here. Curse class. Its making me miss the chat. :(
I used to skip class all day in college.
jon jones doesnt have a good chin. rampage will show that if they fight
How do you know?
What was most shocking about Jones' performance to you? For me it was the pure strength he displayed. He took down Bader and held him down w/ ease. The athleticism was impressive as always, but the pure power was amazing.
He made a former 3x Pac-10 champion and 2x All-American wrestler look like he had never wrestled before. Thwarted Bader's takedowns with ease.
"Bones" Jones walked out to God Gave Me Style by 50 Cent
You're the man. Thanks.
Bones is super nice i met him and condit in vegas both really approachable
hey jon! what do you think about cro cop talking about his improved flexibility and how he can use his kicks again? do you think he has a shot at beating schaub or no?
Every fighter on the UFC roster has a shot, including Cro Cop. But I just don't see it. Schaub is in a great place, both physically and mentally. Confidence is high, and he has a lot of weapons. I like Schaub big.
Could GSP-Silva POSSIBLY wind up on the Brazil card?
No. Way too quick a turnaround for GSP. He'd be a fool to take that fight a) with only 3-4 months to prepare and b) in Brazil.
Belfort's 300 Violin Orchestra entrance was incredible. Thoughts Jon?
Wasn't paying total attention. At that point, I am back on headset and getting ready for the Post-Fight Extra. Crowd was crazy loud, though. I will download it after the chat.
The Reem by 1st-round TKO.
What do you do for a work out Jon? I want to get back to doing MMA, so I am running through the P90X routine so that I don't puke in the gym. Week 1, I puked twice doing the routines.
Mostly cardio. I run about 20 miles/week.
Belfort's foot to the face exit was more incredible.
Who will be the next UFC Hall of Fame inductee?
Good question. Maybe Rich Franklin. Or Stitch.
Earlier in chat you say that it doesn't matter if a GSP-Silva fight happens in Canada because they are pros....now you say that GSP shouldn't take fight, in part, because its in Brazil??? Which one is it, Chost?!?!?
I knew someone would call me out on that. It's more about the travel for GSP. Has absolutely nothing to do with the crowd/judges, or anything else. Fighting in Brazil would be a totally different experience and adjustment. That's all.
Do you think Bonnar thanks his lucky stars every night that he fought Jones two years ago and went 3 rounds to tell about it?
That loss certainly looks better by the day. I told Bonnar this weekend he shouldn't fight Phil Davis. Make another veteran fight the next great prospect, ya know?
GSP- Silva Will Fill Cowboys Stadium?
Wouldn't be configured for 100,000. But they could certainly do 40,000+.
Favorite MMA entrances? Mine are Biggie Smalls' Kick in the Door by Edgar, Vitor's new one, Evans' Shook Ones
Shook Ones Pt. II is killer. James Toney coming out to Blowin' Money Fast was too funny and something I'll always remember. Patrick Cote coming out to Voix de Fait is a personal favorite as well. Could go on all day.
"hey dan why weren't you in class last wednesday?""well, jon anik told me to skip"
Ha. Nope. Just told you that I used to skip class and it didn't ruin my life.
Dan Severn is still competing at 52 years old and has an 8 fight win streak any chance UFC signs him.
Is he really? That's offensive.
Then I will extend an invite to GSP & Anderson and the UFC to come to Minneapolis. We're nice people here!!!
I love the Twin Cities. Was there for UFC 87. Great crowd. Totally into it and on top of the action. Also gotta cross 'Target Field' off the bucket list at some point. Sherdog's TJ DeSantis swears by that place.
Big Countrys entrance always cracks a smile!
Tiago Silva might be out of the May event, but not due to injury. Keith Kizer confirmed with MMAjunkie.com that the commission is still investigating at least one sample from the 1-1-11 event, believed to be Silva's (beat Vera).
You guys are great.
you sure about them not bein able to fill it? there expecting 60,000 in Canada for GSP- Shields
Might be feasible to sell 100,000 tickets. But I highly doubt the stadium would be configured for that many people for a UFC show.
Hopefully Jerry World would not have to kick 400 people out that paid for tickets!
True that. What a disaster that was.
best staredown ever? wanderlei-cro cop?
I love Kobe. I wear #24 in his honor. And I'm a Celtics fan.
Any credibility to Chael's comments about Silva's "secret weapon" with regards to his win at UFC 126?
I don't know.
boxing between Wlad Klitchko and Reem. Wlad KO Reem in the first 4?
Something like that.
You think Rich Franklin is stuck between weight classes? Too small for light heavyweight and the spider controls middleweight.
I think he'll stay put at 205. As Bonnar said on our post-fight show, he handled Matt Hamill's size just fine. Forrest is just a different animal.
Will Hughes fight again?
Perhaps once more to get a win on the way out. But I'm not sure his heart is in it anymore. He wanted to take the rest of 2010 before reluctantly accepting the B.J. Penn fight.
Lesnar Mir II greatest staredown
If Chael kept quiet, he wouldn't be considered such a joke.
He also wouldn't be in the headlines all the time. Being mouthy has its benefits.
where is brian stann? he is the man. would love to see him win the title
Chillaxing at home w/ wife and daughter and also spending time in Albuquerque, NM training. We'll have word on his next fight soon.
What the heck happened to Kid? He was such a beast and now hes getting dominated by some Mighty mouse person...sad
Disappointing. Just hasn't evolved with the sport, I guess.
Does UFC go with a huge card for a Silva/GSP show, or would they just load up the cards before and after, and sell Silva/GSP with good fights but not big names around it.
Good question. Only time will tell. The UFC is already the PPV leader when it comes to annual buys. The question is, do they want to blow it out and set an MMA record? If that is a driving force, card with Brock Lesnar and GSP-Silva would be the way to do it.
Wiki says Stann is fighting Wanderlei at UFC 130, any truth to that?
Stann told me he doesn't have a contract. In a holding pattern right now. Brian wants that fight. Remains to be seen if it'll actually happen.
Brian Stann vs Wanderlei Silva @ UFC 130 already on UFC's website.
Perhaps it has been formalized in the last 24 hours. But I was in touch with Stann over the weekend and he was sort of baffled at the whole situation, with the reports preceding a verbal agreement.
go strong this week 2 1/2 hours. your in beast mode.
Why doesnt Mir get any love... hes better than 9 of the 10 heavy weights in the StrikeFarce Grand Prix
He's a 2x UFC heavyweight champion and no one can take that away from him. I think a lot of us are curious to see how he fares against Roy Nelson. Perfect test for both guys at these respective stages in their careers.
GSP-Silva: Lots of hype, the fans want it, but it's not a catchweight and shields fights GSP first. Give us your percentage chance that Silva's next opponent is GSP, por favor.
Better than 50%.
Concerned that JBJ didn't get a proper break before his title fight?
If he's not, I'm not. He barely broke a sweat in that fight. And Jones told me he spends a good chunk of his training camp getting in shape and losing weight. Won't have to waste time with either of those in this camp. Could actually stand to be a benefit.
C'mon Jon- Angry Johnny is NOT an MMA walkout tune! Decent song, but Poe isn't making anyone waiting in the cage nervous. Though, I suppose Bones could walk out to Tracy Chapman and it'd be intimidating, so, second thoughts abound...
Hahahaha. Obviously, you weren't in the building at UFC 94. What a reaction from the crowd to that jam.
Considering Mir-Nelson had a real competitive grappling match that Mir lost, you think he keeps it on his feet and relies on his hands? He knocked out Cro Cop AND Big Nog. That has to count for something
I think that will be Mir's game plan, to wear the Country down with strikes. Seems like ages since we've seen Mir in a fight against someone in their prime.
Leben v. Belfort, what do you think?
Still think there are better options for Vitor, but I don't hate it. I kinda want to see Sonnen v. Belfort.
Is Rampage actually smart by relaxing between fights? I'm not advocating gaining 40 lbs but with age and wear and tear, it seems his body might also benefit from not training year round. Just curious.
It would be one thing if he was just winding down b/w fights. But in Rampage's case, he's literally shutting it down. And I'm not sure that helps him.
I say Big Country goes George Foreman on Mir, losing on all scorecards before a 3rd rd KO
why is no one giving sheilds a chance hes won like 16 in a row all name fighters i think he has a great chance to beat gsp
Plenty of folks are giving him a chance. I don't think he will win, but a lot of people in the chat today are on your side. He's got a chance, for sure.
Your wife plays Dragonage? Awesome.
Dude it's hysterical. She gets all excited and emotional about it.
Who is bigger, Forrest or JBJ?
Mir did not knock out Cro Cop. The real Cro Cop stopped fighting 5 years ago.
Belfort vs Wanderlei in Rio this summer?
Not gonna happen at this point, b/c Silva will fight too close to that date.
16 wins against names, none of which are St. Pierre however...
In a report from the Brazilian magazine, Portal do Vale-tudo it appears that Anderson Silva's camp used Steven Seagal to increase the UFC middleweight's visibility in the US media.
Who is stopping by MMA Live this week?
Kenny Florian will be there, as usual. And we'll also talk to Alistair Overeem, whom I'm spending about an hour with tomorrow. Fired up to meet the Reem.
HOw many more fights do you give Franklin before he throws in the towel? Seeing him against Griffin shows how overmatched he is at that weight class
2-3. He's not long for it, at this point. But not to worry. Rich is so smart and good with his money. He's set for life, I'd imagine.
Jon, who you got in the Fitch vs. Penn fight??
Fitch, but close call.
I really think UFC should go for some sort of Mega card for the Silva-GSP fight. Perhaps it should be a yearly thing with multiple championship fights on the line. MMA's Super Bowl!!!
Far easier said than done, friend. Oftentimes injuries/schedules don't allow for that type of planning.
Alright, heads. Gotta run. Appreciate the extended time today. If I missed your question, you can find me on Twitter- @Jon_Anik and I will get back to you. MMA Live is a Friday 9PM PT/midnight ET start this week on ESPN2. Until then, go eat some wings and don't text and drive. -JA
