Here to chat for a few.
If UCLA takes down Arizona at Pauley Pavilion and UW in Seattle, do the Bruins crack a 7 seed?
I think UCLA is looking strong among Arizona and Washington with non-conference wins over St. John's and BYU. Ryen Russillo reminded me on ESPN Radio today that USC had non-conference wins over Texas and Tennessee. But USC isn't getting an at-large berth. I'm not sure on the seven seed but I do think UCLA will get a bid.
Utah state doesn't deserve a spot in the ncaa tournament. They have no RPI top 100 wins. You agree with me don't you Andy?
If I had to vote right now it would be tough. I'd have to see who Utah State lost to in the WAC and in what round. I'd also like to see who Utah State is going against.
What changes will Uconn make vs. louisville the 2nd time around?
UConn has to have better game management down the stretch.
What does penn state need to do to make the tournament. They have some quality wins, a great Strength of schedule, and sit at fifth in the big ten
Penn State has to be above .500 in the Big Ten and knocking off Ohio State at home would certainly help the cause. The Nittany Lions would do well to win at least one quality conference tournament game, too.
Why not more love for JaJuan Johnson? He's averaging 21 points, 8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, but all anyone wants to talk about is Sullinger. There numbers are very similar with Sullinger at 18 points, 10 rebounds and .5 blocks. Everyone thinks Sullinger is a lock for Big Ten Player of the Year, but I think JJ definitely needs more recognition.
JaJuan is still right there to win the award. If Purdue beats Ohio State I think he could move past him. Sullinger will win Big Ten and national freshman of the year.
Andy, I'm a huge SDSU fan. Does this program have the ability to become a consistant winner like a Gonzaga or Memphis, or is this just a one season wonder and then back to just being an average team?
First of all if you're a SDSU fan you know that it hasn't been just one year. SDSU was in the NCAAs last season. I was asked recently who will be the top team in the MWC going forward and I would be surprised if it's not SDSU, UNM and UNLV every season with Colorado State having an occasional pop at or near the top.
How far do you think a team like GMU can go in the tournament?
It all depends on matchups. GMU might struggle against a power team. Seeding will play a role. I say that and then remember that GMU got through a gauntlet with Michigan State, UNC, Wichita State and UConn in 2006 to get to the Final Four.
Andy- I love your take on the mid-major scene. Can Missouri State still grab an at large bid if they win out the regular season(MVC regular season title) but not win the MVC tournament?
Tough. But doable. It will all depend on what happens with the rest of the high-majors and if there are upsets.
How can you possibly say that that call against fisher was a good call to decide a game? I know you love uconn and syracuse cause of your job at espn/ uconn sports tv but come on man keep it real and you would have some credibility, i see much much worse go on in games uncalled all the time especially at the end of the game
I respectfully disagree. Fisher had his hand on Jonathan Mitchell of Rutgers. It was an easy call for an official to make if there is contact.
Andy, which is worse? Syracuse getting blown out by Seton Hall at home or the Los Angeles Lakers losing to the Cleveland Cavs on the road.
Not even close. Lakers.
What are the chances of the team currently with THE best record getting the to the final four? That's San Diego State by the way.
In this particular season it is very possible. Having an advantageous seed will certainly help.
ODU in or out?
Fence. One of the last team's in the field?
Can you please comment on the job Mike Lonergan has done at Vermont? He is 22-5 with losses to 2 top 10 teams (BYU & UConn) and a conference winner (Fairfield on the road) with a team that lost 4 starters in a rebuilding year. He has been consistently a winner wherever he has coached. Why arent more BCS Conference schools taking a strong look at him?
Tremendous. Tom Brennan was iconic in Burlington. I thought it would be incredibly difficult to replace him and it has been because no one will replace his personality. But Lonergen has essentially come in and dominated the league save a blip from Albany or Binghamton. Lonergan should be a candidate for a possible A-10 opening if he so chooses.
What happened to Loyola Marymount??? With most of the roster returning and coming off an 18-win season last year they were supposed to finish 2nd in the WCC and have a chance at an at-large bid or at least the NIT. Now they are just 10-17 (and 8-17 vs. Div. I teams) and in the WCC cellar. Will there be coaching changes? Do they have hopes of bouncing back next year since they again return most of their roster?
Major disapointment. No reason LMU should be at the bottom of the WCC.
Andy:Yoiur thoughts on what BC has to down the stretch to stay on the right side of the bubble? does Reggie Jackson return next year, and your thoughts on coach donahue and staff so far
I anticipate Reggie Jackson will leave since the draft is incredibly weak and he could be a first-round pick. BC is on the bubble. No question. Beat UNC Saturday and the Eagles will move up. BC needs to beat one of the top teams in the ACC.
Is Pittsburgh a strong team finally to make a trip to the final four this time and will they be some tough challenges they may have to face come march madness time?
Sure. This Pitt team has every bit a chance to make the Final Four as it did two years ago. It's not as talented but neither is the rest of the field.
Any buzz on K. Leonard leaving school after this year? Outside shot has to improve for the next level?
I don't yet. But it may be hard for him to return if he's a lock for the lottery.
How about those tigers! Do you believe that memphis will get an automatic bid if they dont win there conference tournament and if so what seed will they get?
Memphis is playing its best basketball and atop the standings. If the Tigers win the regular-season title by a game and lose in the final then they should get a bid.
If you need a big man for one game do you take Sullinger or Johnson?
Andy... why is ODU on the fence? 12-4 in conference... 3-0 against the A-10 (Xavier, Richmond, Dayton) beat down VCU at VCU, and a neutral court win over Clemson. Now, I am a big GMU fan... and I can't see ODU missing out if they beat Cleveland State at home and win the rest of the CAA regular season games
I have to wait and see what occurs with ODU. What if the Monarchs lose to Cleveland State and then get bounced early in the CAA tourney? ODU wouldn't be on the first ballot.
Gonzaga will make the NCAA tournament. True or False
Ultimately I'll say true.
Thanks for all the questions. Enjoy Bracket Buster weekend!
