Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling. By the way, we're going 30 minutes today.

Andy R (MN)

Champ so sour that he would stay in the AFCW to spite Denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

I think he'll go to the best situaiton for him. I really don't see him playing in the division if it's not the Broncos. I could see Miami, Jacksonville, Dalals and Washington pursuing him.

mark (virginia)

what position or positions do you think the Chargers need to address in the upcoming daft?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

LB, WR, DL, RT

Cody (Utah)

What Free Agents do you see returning to Oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Any of them. I could see Al Davis doing what it takes keep his own guys. He doesn't like to see his top talent leave.

mark (virginia)

Hey Bll do yo think there is any chance Nnamdi Asomugha ends up a Charger ?????

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

I think those odds are not very good at all. I don't see it happening.

Cody (North Dakota)

Hey Bill! Any new news on Champ? Also, what are the chances you think he will be a Bronco next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I'd say 50-50. It depends on how much of a commitment Dnever wants to give him. I know he loves it there, but he also wants to win and may not think there's a great chance to do it quickly in Denver.

Trevor (Canada)

Darren McFadden, Repeat performance or flash in the pan?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

Repeat. He's the goods.

jt (kansas city)

now that hali has been franchised, what are the chances that he now gets a long term deal?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Scott Pioli realizes the importance of locking in his top talent. I', sure a long-term deal will be worked on.

Trevor (Canada)

Chances that Champ and Aso line up for Oakland next year, or will they both end up outside the AFC west?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

I con't see them being teammates, but that would be something, wouldn't it? But I don't see it.

Rick (Long Island,NY)

Hi Bill. What's done is done, but again, explain the rationale of Elway being hired to run the Broncos, rather than a successful personnel guy looking for a promotion perhaps, like DeCosta from Baltimore.

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Well, Xanders is there in the role DeCosta would have. Elway is the team's highest football decison maker, but Xanders runs day-to-day business. I think Pat Bowlen felt burnt after the McDaniels decable and wanted to go back to someone who is familiar with the fans and who is trusted.

Alexander (Arizona)

I'm just curious if you have had any deelings with AJ Smith and if all the rumors about him being egotistical are true. What are your thoughts on his John Wayne style of GM and is this a make or break year for the Chargers? Thanks.

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

I've met A.J. many times. Good guy. Ego? Oh, I don't know. I think he is very smart and very confident. The bottom line is the man built a pretty nice football team.

Rob (NYC)

Are the broncos leading the way in transparency and will other teams follow ? Elway tweeting about contract negotiations with champ....

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

That all goes back to the McDaniels' deal. He aliented the fans. Elway wants to reconnect with the fans. Good for him.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Who do you think are the Best Running Backs & Wide Receivers in the AFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

RB CharlesWR Jackson

C.J. (La Jolla)

Do you finally see Chargers addressing RT this off-season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Well, Mel Kiper had them taking USC's Tyron Smith in his latest mock draft.

Cheesehead Sports Nut (Chicago, IL)

I loved all the ESPN 30 for 30's. Which were your favorite 30 for 30's? Is there one story not covered by 30 for 30 that you wished they could have covered?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

I think my favorite was the University of Miami football film. Awesome.

Chris (San Diego)

With hiring of Zorn in KC, is their a chance that Zorn might call plays over Muir or Haley? Haley did a nice job doing just the Head Coach job instead of serving as the play-caller too.

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

I think he'll play a role, but I'd be surprised if Haley wasn't the primary play caller.

Alex (San Diego)

Hey Bill, what do you think the Chargers do with all those picks in the first 3 rounds (5)? Package em for a couple players i.e. (Miller, Dareus, J. Jones) or use all 5? I see SD going Defense heavy. Thanks.

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

Yes, I could see A.J. Smith apckaging a deal to mvoe up like he did last year. Miller would be a nice Charger.

twan (des moines)

bill, when do you think we should hear something about S.Rodgers? and his choice?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

I've heard he wants to get it done by the end of the month.

Rick (Scottsdale,AZ)

Do you see any team wanting to trade up to #2 pick in draft?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

It may be depend on the QBs. If a team falls in love with Newton or Gabbert, then maybe. But trades are not easy. The No. 2 pick hasn't been dealt in 11 years.

Don (NY)

What free agent wide receiver do you see the Raiders pursuing the most?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

They could look at vets like Chad Ochocinco and Santana Moss.

Matt (Santa Barbara)

Which AFC West rookie do you think will be the biggest star? Alot of good ones this year

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

It weas a very good class. Many potnetial stars. Rigth now, I love Berry and Ford the most. But it could be a special group.

Jeremy michaud (New Britain ct)

Do you think the chargers will keep free agents malcome Floyd Eric weddle Kevin burnett and brandon filer this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Floyd and Weddle are clearly top targets of the team.

Seth (IA)

Why are you so negative about the Seymour deal? Its not going to be a huge cap hit like you suggest, theres also incentives involved. The cap hit per year will be between 7.5mil-11.5

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

I like Seymour. Great player. But Oakland also has Nnamdi Asomugha. So there are ramifications of the Semyour deal. That's all. It would be naive just to say, "great, we got Seymour.' The huge cost could potentially keep Oakalnd from keeping other free agents.

Brad (IA)

What are they chances Royal and Thomas are healthy for the start of the seaason?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

Royal is supposed to be reayd by May. Thomas is supposed to be ready from August-October, so his chances of being ready on opening day may be tough.

Larry (Pasco, WA)

If the new labor deal doesn't happen till after March 4, when it does go into affect will there be a period of time before free agency starts? So, team have time to re-sign their own with the new labor deal inplace.

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Great question. Yes, that's what happened in 2006. Expect a short grace period between the date fo the deal and start of free agency ... We got to get going, how about three more questons?

tim tebow (fl )

when will I become th starter in denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

I think you already are the starter.

jacorey (stockton)

do you see qb slipping like last years draft if so which qb are there for the raiders im thinkin nevada's qb

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

I like him a lot. He could be a nice project.

Gorilla (San Diego)

I couldn't be more disinterested with the Chargers' running game. Ryan Matthews is so robotic! I'd be all teeth if you think they are going to look at another RB late in the draft to add some more competition. Hit my lunchbag with your thoughts.

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

Nice one ... I would be surprised if Sproles is back, so if SD brings in a RB, it may be a smaller change-of-pace guy to complement Mathews and Tolbert ... Take care everyone. Talk to you next week.
