Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (12:00 PM)

Greetings Fight Freaks and welcome to our weekly chat. New notebook is up, schedule is updated, rankings are updated and there are new blogs and news stories this week, so read it all and we will have plenty to discuss. Nice Showtime card tomorrow night as well and FNF tonight. So let's get to it!

Eugene (Toronto)

James Toney scales in last night at 257lbs, thats 100lbs more than when he picked apart Michael Nunn!!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:00 PM)

And your point is?

Chesseley A Robinson (Raleigh, NC)

Is it really true that David Haye is negotiating a fight with Roy Jones Jr.? Wouldn't that be a tragedy?

Dan Rafael
  (12:01 PM)

No, they are not negotiating a fight. They were together at a Miami gym this week, which turned into a photo op, but not a fight being negotiated.

Miguel (los angeles)

I find it comical how many (ring mag, max kellerman etc) are so quick to rank donaire as high as number 2 because he beat the top guy in his division but montiel was not in anybodies p4p list, while Martinez just waxed your previous number 3, hopkins, a p4p mainstay, went classic hopkins in dec and Marquez keeps showing us his brilliance.

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

Montiel was on a lot of p4p lists. I had him like 15th I believe in the top 20 before the fight. I do not think Donaire warrants No. 2 at this point, but I moved him up to 4th from about 8th. He deserves top 5 for sure.

Jay Dee (White Plains,NY)

Can we see a Saul Alverez and Andre Berto fight within the next year.

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

That would be interesting down the road. Within a year? I doubt it.

Brendan (Cherry Hill,NJ)

How come Erik Morales is ranked #1 by the WBC?

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

Why does sour milk smell bad?

El Terrible (Newcastle)

DTM - Thanks for doing these chats for the freaks greatly appreciated - Will you be in the UK for the Khan McCloskey fight? as you are doing Ringside on SkySports? Adam Smith now head of Boxing at Sky should ship you over. Also how many fight have you seen in the UK? and how does the atmosphere different from other countrys

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

I will not be there for that fight. I actually have not yet been to the UK for a fight, which I hope changes.

Mitch (Oakland)

Pirog on ESPN3. Bless you!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

Exactly. And ESPN3 just had the Sturm fight last week too.

George (Philly)

I heard a limited number of tickets just got released for Sergio's fight. I was considering making the trip - are $50 seats good at Foxwoods?

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 PM)

Yes, there were some $50s put on sale and the MGM at Foxwoods is a great arena, good views basically from everywhere.

victor (north jersey)

do you see a need for instant replay in boxing in cases of cuts being caused by a headbutt rather than a punch like in the soto-karass and mike jones fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 PM)

Yes. Nevada uses limited replays but that was not a situation where it can be used. Only in the event of a fight ending situation.

Camacho (Yucaipa)

You going to watch "Taking on Tyson"?

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 PM)

Yes, I do plan to check it out.

Eric (DC)

Thought we had a sure KOTY but Montiel somehow got up. He looked like Ricky Hatton after 12 pints of Guiness. But he got up.

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

All credit to Montiel's heart.

JonG (Queens)

Love child back to work and on FNF's at that, awesome news. should be a hell ofa fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child! May 20 on ESPN vs. Antwone Smith. Love that matchup. And it's at welterweight.

MacDaddy (Philly)

Oh Great Dann-O, will there be a countdown or preview show for the Grant/Fields PPV?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

You need professional help, which is beyond me.

Gutterdandy (nyc)

James Toney says the Klitschkos are "scared" of him -- scared of laughing themselves to death at the crap he says, maybe.

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

James is delusional if he actually believes that nonsense.

Ron Katz (Bronx)

Ok...you can officially start now...I'm here (linked from your tweeter)

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

Better late than never.

ROB (WASHINGTON DC)

Did Richard ever get back to you about Maidana/Morales being in theaters?

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

Yes and it is unlikely.

Nizzi (Des Moines)

Dan, is Rios going to get it done this tomorrow?

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 PM)

Tough fight against Acosta. To me, it's a really hard fight to pick. Acosta has power and is long and a little awkward. Rios is a bralwer but has some skills also. I expect a pretty good fight.

Lupe (Guadalajara)

What are your thoughts on Randall Bailey vs. Pauli Malignaggi?

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 PM)

An unlikely fight to happen.

Markos (Chi)

A lot of people are talking about Nonito moving up to 122 and 126 for his NEXT fight! Do you agree he should fight the Agbeko/Mares winner before he heads north?

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

Ideally, I would like to see him fight the Agbeko-Mares winner, but the world is not perfect. His team has mentioned Moreno, who has a belt. I would say certainly within the next two fights or so Donaire will be at junior feather.

Alex (Lancs UK (but on vacation))

Hey Dan, David Haye seems to be hinting today that a deal to fight a Klitschko is on the cards. Have you heard anything on the grapevine?

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 PM)

The camps continue to discuss a July 2 fight with Wladimir still going thru with the April 30 fight. I have spoken to both sides and they both acknowledge there are discussions but it ain't done yet and on this fight I will not believe anything until it is signed, and even then, The Ducker pulled out last time. But it is possible because Haye has nowhere else to go that can make him the kind of money he can make with Wladimir. On top of that, the May 21 date he thought was his on Sky for his next fight is likely going to Frank Warren for a card on UK TV, so he's aced out of that.

miguel (los angeles)

When the fight was announced I like a lot of people was concerned for Morales health but I keep getting a feeling that we are going to see vintage Morales on april 9th.

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 PM)

You're not going to see vintage Morales. That Morales is gone. That said, I don't think it's as bad a massacre as some suggest.

Brian (Toronto)

Not that it matters but Junior Witter held more in his fight last week than I have even seen in any fight before, by anyone.

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

John Ruiz is offended.

Gutterdandy (nyc)

Saw pix of Vitali in training camp this week -- he already looks to be in phenomenal condition for the Solis scrap. Not your average near-40 fighter, for sure.

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

Vitali is always in top condition. He's a training animal. That is why both brothers are dominant -- they are 365 days a year fighters. They don't balloon up in weight. They stay in condition and live the right way.

Curtis (Washington, DC)

Dan, buy or sell, Ross Greenburg will be in his current position next year at this time.

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 PM)

There are a lot of rumors put it that way. Are there issues at HBO? Sure. Do I know what's going to happen? No.

Brian (Toronto)

What's your hunch on the location for Hopkins/Pascal II, Quebec City or Montreal ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

I think QC is the leader right now but I am also told Los Angeles Staples Center could be in the mix.

dylan (austin)

Oscar night is this weekend... Did you get out to see The Fighter yet?

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

I actually was sent the DVD by the movie company so I plan to finally watch it.

Amain (Las Vegas)

Happy belated birthday to Floyd Mayweather Jr. who turned 34 yesterday

Kevin (Greensburg)

Dan, while Donaire was impressive, on TV it looked like a good big man beating down a good smaller man.

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

They are both fomer flyweights and junior bantamweights and Donaire had just moved to bantamweight in December and Montiel weighed more than Donaire in the ring on fight night, so while Donaire was slightly taller I do not agree.

Tony (Sacramento)

Holt-Diaz is a nice addition to the FNF schedule. I?m looking forward to it.

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

Very solid fight. Loser goes home.

James Toney (a different world)

Whats wrong with ballooning up in weight, I was 432 before camp and came in at an amazingly fit 257 last night.

al (denver)

have you made a pick for acosta/rios? i think bam bam is going to have his hands full. acosta can box and he can crack.

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

I really have no idea. Gun to my head? I guess I take Rios.

Besim (Staten Island)

We saw your cats after you reached 10,000 followers on Twitter. Nikolai Valuev said on Twitter that he will show us his poop if he reaches the same mark.

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

I should ban you for that!! :)

Dan Rafael
  (12:19 PM)

And, yes, my photos of Thunder and Popo are now on Twitter, so check 'em out and follow me @danrafaelespn

Dave (VA)

How long are you going to keep Mayweather at 2 on your P4P list if he remains inactive for the rest of the year?

Dan Rafael
  (12:19 PM)

Guys generally get a year before they are dropped.

dylan (austin)

B-Hop is on the chat schedule for 3pm. You gonna step aside for him, or is he gonna get crickets when his chat starts?

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

I step aside for no man, even my pal Bernard Hopkins, who will be in the studio tonight on FNF.

mike (costa rica)

dan, do we have any idea where the ortiz-berto fight will be held??

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

Still TBA but Home Depot Center is a possibility.

Kris (Texas)

Dan, Is Demarco in soft this weekend? Do you expect him to cruise to a victory?

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

His opponent is fairly unknown and I do not think I have ever seen him. His resume is thin, so I guess we will find out if he is any good on Saturday.

Christopher (Kalamazoo, MI)

One thing. Ordering the Michael Grant - Tye Fields PPV does not make you a freak. It makes you an idiot.

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

LOL!

Sean (Seattle, WA)

Looks like a solid card tonight on FNF, what do you think of the main event?

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 PM)

I was disappointed Cristobal Cruz pulled out against Burgos. Archuleta is past his prime but at least gives it his all.

Marc (Malden, MA)

I know it's only February, but Nonito Donaire has set the bar for KO of the year...sick left hook.

Kent (St Catharines)

I liked how Thunder "the cat" had a black patch of hair under his one eye. It was exactly like the "real" Thunder would have after the first round of one of his fights.

Dennis (Pittsburgh)

ESPN Bosing Home page not showing the chat any love! No link!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

It's there in the second item on the carousel.

Koichi (NYC)

To go off topic for a bit...how do you feel about the potential 'Taker vs HHH at Wrestlemania this year? I was praying it would be Sting!

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

I love it.

Steve (Hartford)

Is the B-Hop/Pascal II close to being finalized?

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

The fight is done. Only open issue is the site.

korrey (nyc)

no comments on Floyd's ridiculous cake?

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

I didn't see it.

Jay (Bloomington, IN)

As a casual boxing fan is the Acosta/Rios fight worth the $25 tomorrow night?

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

To attend it? Definitely.

Christopher (Kalamazoo, MI)

So, are we getting the Froch-Johnson Super Six fight at the Silverdome?

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

No site yet.

Horn (Vegas)

Do you know of any weigh-in "altercations" that have been staged in order to generate interest in a particular fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 PM)

I was at the Hopkins-Wright fight and on the stage doing interviews for ESPN TV and BHop told me later he purposely instigated it to generate publicity. Winky was not in on it though. Wound up costing BHop like a $250,000 fine I think.

Camacho (Yucaipa, CA)

I see that Segura/Calderon rematch was made and is in Mexico. How do you see it playing out?

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 PM)

I see Segura stopping Calderon again.

Jerry (Phoenix)

If boxing writers and the networks keep devoting most of their coverage to Puerto Rican, Mexican and other Latin fighters, then boxing is destined to go the way of soccer in this country.

Dan Rafael
  (12:32 PM)

I cover all fighters that fight meaningful fights on American TV and many that don't. Makes no difference to me where a guy is from as long as he can fight or it's something interesting. Who exactly aren't we covering?

Horn (Vegas)

Living across the street from the Palms, I may attend!

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 PM)

Why wouldn't you?

Eugene (Toronto)

Here is a link to Floyd's birthday cake --> http://cosbysweaters.com/2011/02/24/floyd-mayweathers-birthday-money-cake/

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 PM)

Lovely.

Gutterdandy (nyc)

Love the cat pix! Popo, black with green eyes, looks just like one of mine. Great looking cats, Dan!

Dan Rafael
  (12:34 PM)

I'm so proud!

Tom E (Lambertville, NJ)

Tell Jerry from Phoenix that the Tea Party chat is on another site

Gerardo (Los Angeles)

Dan-O, thanks for the twitter link to Tyson's Funny or Die clip. Tyson has really found his niche...he was hilarious!

Dan Rafael
  (12:34 PM)

That was hilarious.

Amain (Las Vegas)

Any progress on Devon Alexander's next move?

Dan Rafael
  (12:34 PM)

There is some discussion about Alexander vs. Lucas Matthysse for the summer.

Alex (Louisville)

Jerry is a moron on many levels. Idiot.

dylan (austin)

Anyone surprised that Jerry's from Arizona?

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

Can we ban Jerry for that comment, please?

JB (Toronto)

DTM. Just wondering what you thought of Thomas Hauser's scathing indictment of HBO. I loved it. I like writers who call it like it is, which is why I'm in your chat.

Dan Rafael
  (12:35 PM)

He made some very valid points.

ROB (WASHINGTON DC)

Is it just me or has HBO been kind of kissing up to Arum now recently? Willing to televise Chavez in Mexico and quickly promising to bring Donaire back ASAP (I'm not upset with those moves btw).

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 PM)

Obviously HBO is as it is hurting bad from Arum taking Pacquiao to Showtime, a move HBO brought on itself.

miguel (los angeles)

what were you thinking when Montiel was shaking ackwardly on the floor? I was scared for a second there.

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

It reminded me of when Simon Brown kept punching the air after he was knocked dead by Pettway.

Jeff (Dearborn, MI)

Is it safe to assume your cat Thunder was named after Arturo "Thunder" Gatti?

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

Of course. In fact, his official name on his papers with the vet and his tag on his collar is "Arturo Thunder Gatti."

Nai (Bay Area)

Dan, love the tweets, blogs, notebooks and chats!...Wow, the Bay Area is a starting to put out a lot of good boxers (Ward, The Ghost, and Donaire)...do you ever see them putting a card with all of them together to spoil us Bay Are-ians? That would be sweet!

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 PM)

Virtually no chance they would all be on a card together given the cost of doing that and the fact that they are with three different promoters.

Camacho (Yucaipa, CA)

What's the lastest on Soto/Antillion being put on the Pacman/Mosley undercard?

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 PM)

It's on the card assuming Soto is not injured against Monterrosa in their rematch next week. Soto-Monterrosa is a nontitle bout, by the way.

Paul (Tucson)

Hey Danno, noticed the Rios fight and DeMarco fight are both on showtime but from different locations. Same TV broadcast? Split Site?

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 PM)

Yes.

Christopher (Kalamazoo, MI)

Bing + dry heat = Jerry

Charles D. (Inkster, MI)

Melo To the Knicks!!! The Garden Is back! King Freak Court Side Next to Spike!!! lol

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 PM)

Love it. Now you just need to get me some tickets!

Jeff (South Dakota)

HBO, please replay your Legendary Nights series so those of us that have not seen them might be able to.

Bobo (Toronto)

Hey dannotonie - I used your pictures of your cats to get a girl to come home with me - freak status????

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

No, but smooth move.

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

Did Arturo know he had a cat named after him?

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

Yes and he got a kick out of it. Same with Acelino Freitas, for whom Popo is named.

Kevin (Va Beach)

I dream of there one day being a service called "HBO Boxing on Demand" similar to WWE on Demand where classics, including Legendary Nights and various Countdowns to... shows will be rotated through regularly

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

Yup, an idea I have also thought about for the past few years.

J (ATL)

paul williams april 30th return still looking unlikely?

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

Most likely he won't fight April 30 and instead move to June.

Markos (Chi)

You're a Giants fan...do you happen to be a Knicks fan as well? quick thought on the Melo move?

Dan Rafael
  (12:43 PM)

Definitely a Knicks fan. Have always been my NBA team. My teams are Yankees, Giants, Knicks and Duke hoops.

Eric Omaha [via mobile]

The media focuses only on Latin American fighters? I didn't know Pacquiao, Donaire, Mayweather, Mosley, Khan, Bradley, Haye, and the Klitchko brothers were Latin . . .

Dan Rafael
  (12:43 PM)

Exactly.

David (Houston)

Will Marroquin's fight be televised tomorrow?

Dan Rafael
  (12:44 PM)

No.

Matt (Spokane, WA)

I named my cat Winky, and then he disappeared for a few years... but the good news is he finally reappeared this January!

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley.

Joel (Eastchester, NY)

Dan, will Bute/Magee on showtime be a one fight telecast?

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 PM)

That is the plan.

Roy (Reno)

Any chatter on who P-Wills next fight may be?

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 PM)

Nothing concrete. That is one of the reasons his fight likely will be moved back, so the Williams side and HBO can get on the same page about an opponent.

Richard (Oxford UK)

Is it true James Toney is bankrupt? And do you know how much he got for his fight last night?

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

I don't know his purse from last night but it is no secret he has had financial problems and big tax issues.

Markos (Chi)

In regards to excitement level, how good do you think the Canelo/Hatton fight will be?

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

I think it will be an exciting fight.

Boxing Newbie (Hong Kong)

Two things stood out from your schedule, 1) Antwun Echols is still fighting and he is fighting at cruiserweights?! I actually feel really sad still seeing his name on your schedule.2) Brad Pitt is also fighting??? wow.....

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

Echols is so shot it's sad he continues to be licensed.

Dave (UK)

Which is the least repulsive of the sanctioning bodies?

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

Tell me, which deadly disease would you prefer to get?

Dan Rafael
  (12:50 PM)

Freaks, I checked in with Top Rank's Leeeeeroy Samuels and he tells me the untelevised undercard of Acosta-Rios will be stremed live on Top Rank's website, so we can all watch Roberto Marroquin, Mike Lee and the other fights on the card.

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

I think that Donaire improved his stock just as much in the post-fight interview as he did in the fight. He seems like a real cool guy and very respecctful. Hard not to root for him.

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

Agreed. Donaire is a very likable guy outside the ring.

James T Bedell (Greenville, SC)

Dano, do you know anything about heavyweight prospect Joe Hanks out of NJ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

He just signed with Star Boxing.

Bucky (Denver)

Is Alvarado's injury legit? Hope it isn't more legal issues.

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

It's legit I believe.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Any updates at all on Cloud or Elio Rojas?

Dan Rafael
  (12:53 PM)

Not a thing unfortunately.

CHOPPER (Brooklyn)

Speaking of Toney's money problems, I recently read that David Tua has blown through millions, and had to move his family in to live with his manager. Very sad.

Dan Rafael
  (12:53 PM)

It is.

Carson (Lansing MI)

when can we see Alfredo Angulio fight again?

Dan Rafael
  (12:53 PM)

Your guess is as good as mine.

Sam (Santa Monica)

What is the next fight you will fly out to see?

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

I will be at Martinez-Dzinziruk next month. My flights were booked yesterday.

Aaron (Hartford)

I thought Remillard was fighting Garcia ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

He is. Not Gamboa, my error.

Mike (Simpsonville SC (via Queens NY))

where is James Kirkland?

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

Training with Kenny Adams in Las Vegas and getting ready to fight next week.

Nick X. (Queens, NY)

Why doesn't Froch get more love in P4P rankings? His resume is pretty good.

Dan Rafael
  (12:56 PM)

He is on the list and he does have a good resume.

Bing (Philly)

Your thoughts on Mike Jones performance and where his career will go? Personally, I project him as Rocky Juarez type. He'll fight for titles but never win

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

I think Jones is better than that but I was a little disappointed in his performance vs. Soto Karass. But I think Mike has room for improvement also.

Jonathan (Atlanta)

Dan, Just so your aware, Lou Di Bella gave you and the freaks a shout out on "The Boxing Truth" radio show on Sunday night.

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

Nice. What he say?

Sim (UK)

Considering Donaire is big for a bantamweight, can you see Arum eventually matching him with the likes of Lopez and Gamboa in the future?

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 PM)

Down the road, yes.

liam (Birmingham)

Hey Dan just wanted to let you know to keep an eye out for Frankie Gavin. I think he could be making some noise for a world title shot early next year. He is the british Pernell Whittaker you should check him out.

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 PM)

I am very familiar with Gavin and had him in my 25 prospects to watch. But to compare him with Whitaker is ridiculous. They do not fight in the same style whatsoever.

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

Donaire/Gamboa just gave me goose bumps.

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 PM)

Maybe you need a cream to take care of that?

Roy (Reno)

Seems like a lot of fans or overlooking Acosta this weekend. This is a TOUGH fight and whoever wins will be in a good position in the light weight division.

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

Couldn't agree more.

Charlie (Chicago, IL)

Thoughts on the ref's job in the Donaire fight? IMO he did a great job, gave the champ the benefit of the doubt, and only let him take 1 more after it was obvious Montiel had no idea where was, etc

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 PM)

I was ok with it. I would have liked to see it stopped, but Russell Mora was right on top of things and as soon as Donaire threw his next combination he jumped in. I think it could have gone either way.

Duff (Boston, MA)

Speaking of Rocky Juarez, do you think he retires after his latest loss?

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

No idea, but it's pretty clear he is now just a stepping stone.

Eugene (Toronto)

Fellow Canadian fight freaks are left in the dark when it comes to ESPN3, arrghhhh!!! Why can't we get access to??

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

Because it is American.

PeteNice (Philly)

Dan, I became of fan of Donaire the other night. Any concerns he does his strengh training with Victor Conte a.k.a (Mr. Balco)?

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

It makes you wonder but, obviously. Unfortunately, that is Conte's reputation. But there's no proof of anything wrong going on so it is what it is.

Leonard Ellerbe [via mobile]

Floyd Mayweather's cake was not ridiculous because he never had a birthday

Matt (Lincoln, NE)

Danny Boy, why is Danny Garcia fighting such a bum? guy is 7-8, loser of 3 stright and 6 of 7

Dan Rafael
  (1:04 PM)

Tonight's Telefutura is a disgrace.

JonG (Queens)

how impressed/unimpressed were you with fernando guerero last week? Not necessarily a "great" performance and certainly an opponent made to order for him but I still see a very bright future for him. great following for him in MD also which can only help.

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 PM)

It was not a great performance, but a solid and fairly dominant win against a game opponent. Not every fight is going to be a sensational performance.

Tom (Akron)

Dan, my DirecTV doesn?t carry EPIX but the Freaks can catch the Vitali fight if they sign up for the EPIX free preview less than two weeks before the date and watch it live online.

Rob (Denton, Tx)

I would love to hear your opinion on this. I have been going back and forth with some fellow freaks about Manny and Floyd. And when I bring up the fact that Floyd never fought Margs or Cotto, they counter that with why didnt Manny fight Raheem or Campbell and instead fought Diaz. Am i crazy for thinking that they are crazy for bringing up Raheem?

Dan Rafael
  (1:06 PM)

Completely insane.

J (ATL)

is malignaggi-zaveck realistic you think?

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

I think it could possibly be made, yes.

mike (dallas)

TONIGHTS Telefutura????? EVERY Telefutura

Tommybum (Scotland)

Haye/Klitschko is it on for July 2 Dan?

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

Like I said earlier, it is being discussed.

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

Like I said earlier, it is being discussed.

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

Like I said earlier, it is being discussed.

Besim (Staten Island)

I just told Max Kellerman that a freak compared Frankie Gavin to Pernell Whitaker and he proceeded to rip his own hair out.

JB (Toronto)

In this chat alone, two people mentioned not being able to see fights (ESPN3, old HBO Legendary Nights). The freaks really need to learn about this thing called the internet. You can literally find anything on there.

ROB (WASHINGTON DC)

Dan, the announced attendance for Donaire/Montiel was about 1,000 more than sold tickets. When this happens are most of the giveaways just given to people in the casino at the time the main event is about to begin? or how does that whole process work?

Dan Rafael
  (1:08 PM)

It all depends. Every fight there are comps given out either by the promoter or casino. To haven extra 1,000 people in there more than the actual number of tickets sold is not unusual at all.

Dave, NJ [via mobile]

Every Telefutura and every Fight Night Club stink too! How many times do we have to see Cristian Favela lose?

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

Favela on a main event is a disgrace. And he's on time and again. Dude is like 19-38-7. He should not be on TV. Ever. I don't care if it's late replacement.

Shawn (Tempe)

Call me crazy, but the morales/maidana PPV looks pretty entertaining

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 PM)

I agree. Is the main event a great fight? No. Will it provide entertainment and action? I strongly believe so. And the rest of the tv fights are interesting to me as well.

Sam (Santa Monica)

Acosta - Rios seems like a 50/50 fight for me, but I'm going with Acosta late KO. Rios just too open and the punches will accumulate.

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 PM)

Very valid prediction.

Eric Omaha [via mobile]

Dan - IF a Haye-Klitschko fight gets done, what is your guess for a venue? Any chance it lands in the states?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

If it gets done I am told it will be in Germany.

Khalil (Atlanta, GA)

Dan, is there a chance Berto-Ortiz lands in Atlanta?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

That was another area where DiBella was looking.

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 PM)

For those asking by the way, the Top Rank stream of live fights tomorrow begins at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT. Also the weigh in is streamed live today at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT at toprank.com.

Teddy (Montreal)

If it's your call, who do you want Donaire to fight next?

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 PM)

The winner of Agbeko-Mares, hands down.

Fernando (Ft Carson)

what day of the week do you usually ariive before a fight? does it matter where it is?

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

Depends. For a huge fight maybe Tuesday. Often Wednesday morning in time for the press conference. Sometimes Thursday, like last week.

Besim (Staten Island)

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sebastian Zbik... SOMEBODY'S O HAS GOT TO GO

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

I like your enthusiasm.

miguel (los angeles)

I wont believe a klit-haye fight until I see haye in the ring with a chain attached to the ring post so he cant run away after the intros.

Rob (Denton, Tx)

Talk to Richard and see if he can get his undercard next week put on the Web for the freaks. I cant believe all those prospects are fighting on the same card, that would be a good one to go to

Dan Rafael
  (1:18 PM)

I will mention it to him.

Matt (Spokane, WA)

I have two other cats-- both named Ricky Hatton.

Dan Rafael
  (1:19 PM)

Impossible. We all know there is only ONE Ricky Hatton, human or otherwise.

John (San Fran)

Maidana-Morales is mildly interesting. Maidana throws wide and has been knocked down more than once. Morales throws a sharp one-two. The old man could make it interesting early, but i fully expect Maidana to wear him down

Mark (NYC)

When Roy Jones, Jr. was talking about God last weekend, was that just a case of Roy talking about himself in the third-person again?

Camacho (Yucaipa, CA)

Hey DTM, I was watching the De la Hoya Vs Trinidad fight during the week i got me to thinking. Why didnt they ever have a rematch?

Dan Rafael
  (1:21 PM)

There were talks over the years, which I wrote about a ton, but it never happened. There were always issues over the split and the weight.

TicketsofBoston (Boston)

Hi Dan, Read the notebook, and just have one question: Will we see you at the Ahhhhhhh The Love Child fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:21 PM)

Maybe.

Dan (England)

Dan do you have any thought's on the way the WBC keep ignoring Ryan Rhodes for a title shot even though they have him ranked #4 and he has been inside there top 10 for about 3 years, whereas Matthew Hatton is not even in there top 15 and is not even a light middlleweight...........

Dan Rafael
  (1:21 PM)

Typical WBC disgrace. Shame on El Presidente.

Greg (VA)

I have 3 cats, 2 named Vitali and Wladimir and the other named David... David keeps hissing at the other 2 but refuses to fight them.

Shawn (Tempe)

guerrero katsidis should be a good one, too

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

That's a terrific fight and could easily be a Showtime or HBO main event but it is on the undercard of the Morales-Maidana PPV. Really good match.

jesse (ca)

hi dan my questios is why is nonito donaire? by beating a marquee fighter like montiel is suddenly in top five or in the pound for pound list?

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

It's not suddenly. He has been in the top 10 for ages.

aspiring freak (Florida)

DTM, love the fights coming up, would you put money on Mayorga knocking Cotta down at least once? Maybe we'll see a lil of the ol' Mayorga and then a lil of the ol' Cotto (Ricardo Torres anone?)

Dan Rafael
  (1:24 PM)

Anything is possible. I wouldn't bet on your scenario though.

JonG (Queens)

Pirog, Jacobs, Guerero, Kirkland, Alvarex(if he moves up)....the future at 160 is beaming.

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 PM)

There are some good prospects and younger fighters in that division for sure. And you gotta figure if Angulo gets back in action he will eventually be at 160 as well.

Chris (KC)

Lets get the weekly Pavlik question out of the way. Any news on whether he has an opponent on the Pac-Mosley undercard?

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 PM)

He is on the card from what his manager tells me and he and the Top Rank matchmakers are in the process of discussing potential opponents. But Kelly is supposed to be on the card.

@stonemclean (Canada)

Also Dan I'm glad to see sanity prevailed on your p4p and Donaire did not jump Martinez. The win was great, but TKOing a top 20 p4p guy < icing a top 5 p4p guy right after winning the lineal MW championship.

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

I never considered moving Donaire ahead of Martinez at this point.

Jake (Homewood, Il)

Danimal,What are your thoughts on a Martinez-Froch fight? That would be awesome

Dan Rafael
  (1:27 PM)

Would be fun, but not even a remote possibility at the moment.

Markos (Chicago)

When is Marquez's contract up with GBP?

Dan Rafael
  (1:27 PM)

End of this month, but they have certain matching rights for a year, according to Golden Boy.

Amain (Las Vegas)

Would you put your money on Hopkins in his upcoming rematch or just stay away from it?

Dan Rafael
  (1:28 PM)

I don't ever bet on fights.

Gerard (Philippines)

Danimal! say it, go on. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...

Dan Rafael
  (1:28 PM)

The Love Child is baaaaaccckkkk!!!!!!!

karl (uk)

i am a big naseem hamed fan but he had a lot of haters over here in the uk. How was he recieved in america when he first came over??

Dan Rafael
  (1:28 PM)

Hard punching, cocky little p****.

dylan (austin)

Might Brian Vera be back on Pavlik's list of potential opponents? Or is Vera going to have a tougher time getting another meaningful fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:29 PM)

They are not considering Vera.

Erik (Atlanta, Ga)

D$$$ chatting at work... ctrl-tab is in effect! Since I didnt see this question asked. Nonaire's ko is top dog for KO of the year correct or does the fact Montiel got up means no. Sensational shot! Be back in 15 mins ctrl-tab

Dan Rafael
  (1:29 PM)

I would still consider it a KO of the year candidate for sure. Will it win? With 10 months to go and the fact that he did continue, I doubt it, but it was pretty sweet.

Craig (MD)

Give me Acosta by 9th round tko and the freaks seem split 50-50

sergio (san diego)

any news on the Latin Snake? any ideas how he resurrects his career?

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

Yeah, he lost a few weeks ago. His career is what it is. He's a mid-level guy who isn't going anywhere else.

Mark (Minneapolis)

U are a good boxing guy, but all these people excited to see your cats totally creeps me out.

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

You and me both Freak.

Bert (Minneapolis)

Buy or sell: Fall 2012 the biggest fight in boxing is PacMan-Donaire?

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

Aint gonna happen.

Steve (Hartford)

Any news on the Peterson brothers?

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

Nothing definite. MAYBE an ESPN fight in the spring.

ROB (WASHINGTON DC)

I remember you were critical of how BAD handled the call when Martinez KO'd Williams, do you think they did a fine job this time around for Donaire?

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

Another blown call in my opinion.

king (harrisburg,pa)

Are you going to be ringside for the Gamboa fight in AC.

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

Yes, that is the plan.

karl (uk)

tyson fury the next heaveyweight sensation

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

Yawn.

Brendan (Cherry Hill,NJ)

Any chance you think Mike Jones lands on the pacquiao undercard again in May? Im very impressed this time around, great footwork and boxing ability with his jab.

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

No, Jones will not be on that undercard. The TV undercard is already done.

Alec (Nashville)

Comparing Frankie Gavin to Sweet Pea? Well, they are both southpaws...oh wait, the similarities end there.

Brendan (Cherry Hill,NJ)

Hey Dan, thinking of really ordering this Maidana-Morales ppv. Im a super freak and Morales is still my among top favorite fighters of all time.

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

Enjoy!

Amain (Las Vegas)

So I guess $300,000 might not have been fair enough for Lamont Peterson, but do you think he should have taken it? Look at the alternative... "MAYBE an ESPN fight in the spring"

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 PM)

I don't blame him for turning down the Khan fight.

Ryan (Sheffield)

Think Kell Brook eats Jones for Breakfast.

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 PM)

That would be a pretty big breakfast.

Markos (Chicago)

Will Khan ever fight Breidis Prescott?

Dan Rafael
  (1:35 PM)

He told me a couple of weeks ago that after Bradley in the summer he would fight Prescott. I will believe it when I see it.

Jack (Chicago)

After a year of Pacquiao-Mayweather, do you still stand by your comment that if Tyson-Lewis could get made, anything could get made? Or has Pacquiao-Mayweather established a new level for difficulty?

Dan Rafael
  (1:35 PM)

I stand by it. I covered that too and it was pure insanity getting that fight made with the two networks involved. I will say again: If Lewis-Tyson could get made any fight can be made.

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, Texas)

Dan, what are the televised fights for showtime saturday? Obviously Acosta-Rios, but will I get to see my boy Roberto Marroquin?

Dan Rafael
  (1:37 PM)

Acosta-Rios and Demarco-Sanchez are live on Showtime. The undercard bouts on the Acosta-Rios part of the card in Las Vegas will be live on Top Rank's stream on its website. We all got that now? Last time.

Jayson (NYC)

Cotto/Mayorga card is brutal. Having a Christy Martin fight on a $50 PPV is a smack in the face to boxing fans.

Dan Rafael
  (1:39 PM)

Not the best card. Honestly, not one fight on there that really interests me. Couldn't care less about the Martin fight, although good for her for getting back after what she has been through. Foreman-Wolak does not interest me in the least. Miguel Vazquez-Lenny Z is ok, but nothing great because Vazquez makes terrible fights. And the main event would have interested me about 5 years ago.

Adrian (Chicago)

You mentioned before that there was one fight you thought about betting on but end up not doing it, can you tell us which fight it is? and who you were going to take.

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 PM)

I wanted to bet a bundle on Fres Oquendo vs. Cliff Etienne. I was at the fight in Vegas. Oquendo was a big underdog. I knew he was going to win that fight and he beat the crap out of Etienne. I would have won good money. He was like a 6-to-1 dog Oquendo.

Jake (Brighton, UK)

I was having a conversation today about children taking up boxing. My friend said it was morally wrong and that they are too young and irresponsible. Whats your opinion DTM?

Dan Rafael
  (1:42 PM)

If done properly in a gym with proper equipment and coaching I am all for it. Teaches discipline, keeps kids out of trouble. Why not?

Adrian (Chicago)

Better chance at an upset Magee or McCloskey?

Dan Rafael
  (1:42 PM)

McCloskey.

hectorconga (nyc)

Regarding your twitter post on a Pacman-Trinidad fight @ welterweight...Who would you have picked in that fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:43 PM)

Not sure. But I know I would have loved to see it.

Michael (Hollywood, CA)

Any progress on the Ward/Abraham location?

Dan Rafael
  (1:43 PM)

Probably Home Depot in Carson, Calif.

Jason (Orlando)

Dan, last week you answered a fellow freaks question about RJJR's future with "you were gonna catch up with him at the Donaire fight". What news on his future did you get?

Dan Rafael
  (1:44 PM)

Didn't have a chance to ask him.

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, Texas)

Dan, that's disgusting that you didn't take that bet. Did you feel like crap after the fight? If you were in the same scenario now would you bet this time? Like if Cotto came in as a 5 to 1 dog in his next fight would you put the house up?

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

My good buddy did bet on the fight and won something like 2 grand I think. He bought dinner that night at the steakhouse at the Texas Station casino, where the fight was. That was a helluva dinner.

Mitch (Chicago)

"If done properly in a gym with proper equipment and coaching I am all for it. Teaches discipline, keeps kids out of trouble. Why not?"Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy would be a good reason.

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

Sorta like pee wee football?

psycho (LaLaLand)

so Chisora in April, Haye in July and Adamek in September. if that happens Wlad in a clear cut FOY no?

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 PM)

Yes, but I suspect if Wlad fights The Ducker in April than it means Vitali faces Adamek in Sept. That's why the did the deal the way did -- so Adamek would be guaranteed a shot at one of them at their choise.

Besim (Staten Island, New York)

If you had to pick a weakness of Andre Ward, what would it be?

Dan Rafael
  (1:47 PM)

Probably that he has not displayed top notch punching power.

CHOPPER (Brooklyn)

James Toney badly wants to be the next Shannon Briggs, and take a brutal beating for a big payday.

Roy (Reno)

Boxing also instills self confidence, self control and provides many kids with much need structure.

Dan Rafael
  (1:47 PM)

Totally agree.

Joe (PA)

Did HBO buy or Pass or Wladimir vs Chisora?

Dan Rafael
  (1:48 PM)

They are discussing it but I suspect they will buy it.

J.R (puerto rico)

who do you like on a donaire vs juanma fight?, i think donaire has a pretty good sht

Dan Rafael
  (1:48 PM)

At this point, I would still like Juanma in that fight. But I would love to see it.

Kevin (Denver)

My father was in staying at the Mirage in Vegas for work the weekend of Tyson-Douglas and purely for giggles threw a $50 on Douglas...that was a good weekend for him too... :-) I think Douglas was a 35-1 dog in that fight...

Dan Rafael
  (1:49 PM)

Nice. I hope he picked up the tab that night.

ROB (WASHINGTON DC)

Did you see or at least read about Chavez Sr, Marquez, Nacho, Oscar, etc on Mexico TV with Sulaiman giving their thoughts on Alvarez/Hatton for the WBC belt? Pretty interesting to read about a fighter of Marquez's caliber keeping it real directly to Sulaiman

Dan Rafael
  (1:50 PM)

Heard about it. Good for Marquez exposing that fraud.

Julie (Denver)

Everyone who wants to attack youth boxing should check the safety stats before making those statements. There are more injuries and fatalities in cheerleading and numerous young people who participate use the skills and traits they learn later in life whether it be as an athlete or a successful businessperson.

Scott (Staten Island, NY)

The Crown Molding in your house is Amazing (as seen the the pic of Popo). You certainly have Great Taste when it comes to design!!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 PM)

You are sick. For the record, that was here when we bought the house but it is indeed very nice. The original owners of the place had good taste.

Robert (NC)

Sam Peters vs Chris Arreola, What do you think about that match up?

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 PM)

Would not mind seeing it. But if I am putting it on, I'm not paying a lot for it.

John (Houma, LA)

Dan, do you give Adamek any kind of shot to upset whichever Klitschko he fights ?

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

No, I think either Klitschko brutalizes him.

Shawn (Tempe)

Rafael Chat Bylaw #154a: There shall be no discussions of crown molding

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

Motion carries.

Marc (Malden, MA)

Who/when was the last (legit) Polish Heavyweight Champion?

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

There never has been one.

Robert (NC)

What was your first big live fight that you saw, and how old were you?

Dan Rafael
  (1:55 PM)

In person, it was Hamed vs. McCullough, which was the first big fight I covered during my loanership with USA TODAY in 1998. I was 28.

Amain (Las Vegas)

Do you not bet on any fights because it's against your principles, or because boxing has so many bad (and/or fixed) decisions?

Dan Rafael
  (1:58 PM)

I could bet if I wanted to when I am in Vegas, but I opt not to because I don't think it is appropriate to wager on an event I am covering because it could color the way I cover something, or at least look that way. So I do not bet.

Cole (Payson, UT)

I was watching DLH v Mosley 2 the other day. Were you behind the Mosley corner and had a white towel over you shoulder?

Dan Rafael
  (1:58 PM)

Yup.

Rags (NYC)

Without naming names, is the non-betting policy in effect along press row, or is there a fair amount of wagering going on?

Dan Rafael
  (2:00 PM)

There are plenty of guys at ringside who wager. I am not one of them.

Alec (Nashville)

Dan, I think I speak for a lot of Freaks when I say that I personally do not care one bit if you bet on fights. It makes them even more exciting.

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 PM)

I don't bet because of my own feelings about it, not the Freaks.

Neil (Boston)

Good call Dan on the not letting betting color the coverage. Bc it most certainly would.

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 PM)

Agreed.

R! (Bay Area)

What are the chances Bradley vs Khan doesnt happen on 7/23?

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 PM)

Depends on if Khan wins April 16. Depends on if Khan makes a deal with Golden Boy/HBO. That is the plan. Does it mean it will definitely happen? No. This is boxing.

Gutterdandy (nyc)

Dan is a throwback to something they call "journalism," in which the reporter tries to maintain a neutral perspective. Too bad there aren't more like him.

Bubba Gage (ottawa il)

Dan, Im very confused with the notion some boxing fans/media think that HBO is in trouble for not getting pac-mosley. I totally disagree. Do you really think HBO needs bob arum more then bob arum needs HBO? I think this whole HBO "lost" out on pac-mosley thing is crazy. Thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (2:06 PM)

HBO did lose the Pacquiao. It wanted the fight. It wants all of Pacquiao's fights. It mishandled the neogitations. It lost the fight. That did not sit well with the execs above HBO Sports. What is so complicated about understanding that?

Steve (Hartford)

Did Kendall Holt pull out of the Martinez card in CT?

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 PM)

He isn't on that card because now he has the ESPN fight with Diaz.

Liam (UK)

Will we ever see a weight division with just one world title again?

Jonathan (Northern, VA)

Excellent call on not betting. For example, I don't see how a reporter could have bet on Hopkins-Pascal and reported on it without bias.

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 PM)

Exactly, and that is why I just don't do it. The extent of my boxing betting are $1 bets on the total number of rounds for a card with Steve Farhood. I beat his butt all the time too and he never pays up. :)

Curious aspiring freak (Florida)

Dantoberfest, haven't seen Hatton fight...does his style resemble his bother or are we looking at a borderline stiff?

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 PM)

Matthew is definitely is no stiff. But he is not as good as his brother was. But he is a solid fighter who works hard and comes to fight. He's no defensive wizard and he gets hit, but he seems to take a good shot. He doesn't have huge power but he has scored some nice knockouts and is usually in a good scrap. For this stage of Alvarez's career I think it's a reasonable fight even though I don't particularly think it should be for a world title.

Besim (Staten Island, New York)

Who's calling the Acosta/Rios fight tomorrow on Showtime?

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 PM)

Somebody didnt read the notebook. And you're a regular so shame, shame, shame.

Susie W (Buenaventura)

Dan I am the biggest Luis Collazo fan you will ever meet. What's next for my Luisy?

Dan Rafael
  (2:13 PM)

You, my good Freak, may be the only serious Luis Collazo fan I have ever met.

Dave (UK)

Have you seen the size of Frank Warren's ear lobes?

Dan Rafael
  (2:16 PM)

These are my readers.

Jake (Los Angeles, CA)

Hi Dan, love the chats. I'm a big fan of the Klitschko Bros., but can you explain to me how Vladimir is now on most P4P lists, but Vitali is not even though they are equally dominant and Vitali has the slightly more impressive resume? Would love go see the old man get his due. Thanks!

Dan Rafael
  (2:16 PM)

Don't know. All I know is I have them both ranked in the top 20.

Robert (NC)

Dan, do you think Nate Campbell is a future hall of famer?

Dan Rafael
  (2:16 PM)

Not even close. He gets in if he buys a ticket.

Bubba Gage (ottawa il)

Freak, good breakdown on matt hatton. I seen him fight at the paris in vegas on the ricky hatton-urango undercard. Hes a solid fighter and am looking foward to his title fight with saul.

Sal (Newark, NJ)

What should be next for Miguel Cotto, if he receives a win over mayorga?

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

Likely a summer rematch with Margarito.

Besim (Staten Island, New York)

Last paragraph of the Rios/Acosta section. I'll admit it; I skimmed. My bad.

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

You are hereby sentenced to watch Ruiz-Oquendo.

Nate Campbell (Florida)

Anybody know where I can I buy a HOF ticket?

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 PM)

Front door, Canastota, NY.

@TheBoxingEmpire (Twitter)

More Delusional: Jose Sulaiman or Muammar al Ghadafi?

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 PM)

Sulaiman.

Matt (Spokane, WA)

As a defense attorney, I have to point out that watching Ruiz-Oquendo is cruel and unusual punishment.

Dan Rafael
  (2:20 PM)

Motion denied.

Alec (Nashville)

Do you think we will see Antonio DeMarco (provided he wins, of course) vs. the winner of Rios/Acosta next?

Dan Rafael
  (2:21 PM)

If Demarco wins, he becomes the WBC mandatory, meaning the winner of Soto-Antillon, not the winner of Acosta-Rios. So it would seem he would go for the fight he was No. 1 for.

Luis (Vermont)

Dan have you ever been yelled at by a Boxing Sanctioning body? I know you exchanged harsh words with Gilberto Mendoza on Twitter

Dan Rafael
  (2:21 PM)

I've had words with them over the years.

Besim (Staten Island, New York)

My lawyer would like a plea deal. He wants to know if I could watch Mosley/Mora.

Dan Rafael
  (2:22 PM)

The state accepts that. You are hereby sentenced to watch Mosley-Mora. Case dismissed.

Dan Rafael
  (2:23 PM)

And don't let me see you in my courtroom again because next time I won't go so easy. You will be looking at a Ruiz career set plus Mora-Mosley again -- in slow motion -- and Byrd-Williamson.

andy (uk)

Rumours in the UK that Malignaggi will be fighting on the Khan-McCloskey undercard...any truth?

Dan Rafael
  (2:24 PM)

I spoke to Richard Schaefer and Paulie himself this week and that is not on the table at this point.

Roy (Reno)

The crazy part about Bird Williamson is it was in Reno and I took my wife. Needless to say she does not watch boxing with me anymore.

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 PM)

That wasn't boxing. That was less exciting that square dancing.

Liam (UK)

if you were going to the electric chair tomorrow, what fight would you watch beforehand?

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 PM)

You trying to tell me something?

Lisa (Texas)

What's next for Randall Bailey? He schooled Said Oualli. Who should he fight next?

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 PM)

My understanding is that he is mandatory for titleholder Jan Zaveck.

Dan Rafael
  (2:27 PM)

Thanks for chatting Freaks. Hope you check out the notebook, blogs, news stories and sked and enjoy the fights on ESPN2 tonight and on Showtime tomorrow night. Have a great weekend and we'll do it again next week. Peace.
