What's going on everybody? I'm coming at you live from beautiful Orlando. Let's get this chat rolling ...
who goes inactive to make room for butler?
Thibs hinted that Butler will be inactive tonight and then it will be determined on a game by game basis after that.
Do you see "Big Sexy" getting some time tonight against Dwight Howard? I know that Asik has been playing really well but I'm just curious if Thomas could put more of a body on Howard.
I do. I think Thomas will get some minutes tonight, if for no other reason than the fact that he has six fouls to give against Howard.
Hey Nick,With the signing of Rasual Butler, how much of an impact do you think he'll have on this team? Do you see him taking more time away from Bogans and dare say, even move into the starting line up as time progresses?
Butler seems like a really good guy, but I don't think he'll have much of an impact. He knows the rotation is already set and he is basically an insurance policy. He may play some spot minutes down the line, but he won't crack the starting lineup at all.
Dwight Howard....any chances in 2012??
Howard to the Bulls? No. Howard to the Lakers? Yep. I think that is the only place he would leave Orlando for.
Will Bulls regroup against Magic tonight?
The players seem to think so. I think the Bulls caught a big break that the Magic came back to win last night in Miami. If the Bulls come out and play a more consistent game they have a good chance to win. Problem is, the Bulls have shown no ability to slow down Howard. If he gets going, they are in trouble.
Hey Nick, How much of an impact can Omer Asik have in the playoffs?
I think Omer can have a solid impact. The players and coaches rave about his defense and they know he is only getting better. I still think Kurt Thomas is going to get his fair share of minutes in the postseason, though.
How's Derrick's head after that loss to Atlanta?
I think he's fine. He knows he didn't play well and seems determined on changing things against the Magic. He felt like it was his fault the Bulls lost. I expect him to have a big game tonight.
What are the Bulls going to do the next time they play Atlanta, so that Al Horford doesn't play like he is the second coming of Karl Malone? Thanks.
My guess is you'll see more of Taj Gibson or Omer Asik, especially late in games defensively, in place of Carlos Boozer.
Should we be worrying about the Magic right now to make a run right now for the 2nd or 3rd spot in the East
Thibs said it earlier this morning and I agree with him. People are underestimating the Magic. They made all those moves, but they still have Howard. If he goes on a tear in the next month the rest of the East could be in trouble, especially if some of his teammates start playing more consistently.
What's the blazer today Nick? Elbow pads are for suckers!
Blue wool. Pink shirt. I've got to look good for the homecoming.
Is there a chance to see Asik and Noah on the floor together?
I think we may start seeing that more down the line, maybe in the next few weeks. A lot next year, though.
Has there been any signs of Boozer and his frustration with his amount of shots
No. Boozer has not rocked the boat at all because he knows how good the chemistry is on this team. If he keeps struggling though, things could change. He hasn't had a big game in a while and I'm sure that's bugging him.
Nick, do you think our defense will hold in a 7 game series? I think the opposing team can get used to our adjustments and render our defense less effective that way, thoughts?
I think the defense is going to hold just fine. I also think Thibs will make some of his own adjustments throughout the course of the series. If I'm a Bulls fan, the defense is one of the least of my worries.
why did james johnson never get any minutes?????
Because Thibs didn't trust him on the floor.
Do you think DRose is at all getting tired looking at his numbers since the all-star break?
Oh, yeah. I think he's frustrated with the way he's been playing. He will break out of his slump soon, though. He's been too good not to do so.
Is Hinrich the best defender on Rose that you have seen?
He's very good, he may know Derrick's game as well as anyone. The only other player that gives Rose as much of a hard time might be Russell Westbrook. They work out in the summer so they know each other's respective games inside and out.
Will the Bulls add another player? Maybe another PG like Arroyo?
I think the Bulls are done for the time being.
Are the Bulls good enough to go the distance this year or do they need another piece to the puzzle?
I've been saying it all year -- I think they need at least one more piece. Who it is exactly? I'm not sure, neither are the Bulls, but it's got to be another scorer to help Rose out.
I am getting a little worried they are going to burn Deng out. Why not use Bulter at the 3 to bring Dengs minutes down and keep him fresh for the playoffs?
Thibs has confidence in Deng. Deng appears to be holding up fine and the coaching staff has kept a close eye on him all year. There's not a question that gets Thibs more irritated than talking about Deng's minutes.
Was Hinrich ever in play for the Bulls before the trade deadline?
No, they would love to have him, but they don't want to bring that contract back. Not even salary cap space anyway.
When will people realize that Scalibrine is the Bulls MVP? The man has more late game buckets then Lebron
Even Scal would tell you that you need help.
Is King at all surprised at the immense popularity his work brings him?
I think so. Stacey is a great guy and he doesn't have much of a filter, that's why people love him. If you haven't done so already, read Jon Greenberg's column about Stacey. It's really good.
If Derrick Rose was a suit jacket, which one would he be?
Great question. I'd go with the white dinner jacket. Smooth, stylish sophisticated and unpredictable. James Bond style.
Not a Question, just a statement: Scalabrine is a human victory cigar!
There you have it.
do you have the link to Greenberg's article?
hey Nick, is drose your MVP? explain why or why not
Yes, he is. Nobody has done more with less this season. Boozer and Noah missed a combined three months. LeBron has Wade and James. You take Rose off the Bulls they aren't very good. You take James off the Heat, they're still pretty good.
Rose as a white dinner jacket / James Bond is superb. From now on, I'm calling Rose "The Tuxedo" or "001".
Ha. He'd probably just like to go as three letters for an undercover name -- MVP.
Best first round matchup?
Bulls/Knicks. I think it's going to happen, too.
Other than D-Rose, who is your Bulls MVP? I'm torn between Deng's great season play Robin to Batman and Big Sexy for pretty much saving our season filling in for Noah.
Deng. He's been there every game, played consistently and played well.
Who will step up as the second consistent scorer on the bulls as they make a playoff push?
That's what the Bulls have to figure out. My guess would be Boozer because Boozer can work in the post, but we'll see. As everybody knows, the defenses get a lot tighter in May.
AKA - White Mamba. Deadly.
The White Mamba is the world's most dormant snake ... but it can attack.
How do you like the nickname "The Unicorn'? It pretty much fits him. "The unicorn is the only fabulous beast that does not seem to have been conceived out of human fears. In even the earliest references he is fierce yet good, selfless yet solitary, but always mysteriously beautiful. He could be captured only by unfair means, and his single horn was said to neutralize poison"
Are we talking about Rose or Scal?
Nick, what do you think Asik's ceiling is in the NBA? could he ever become a starter in this league?
I think he could be, but he has to get in better condition first. He is still getting winded after 15 minutes. Once he gets in the gym and works with the trainers, I think he'll be OK. But I do think he could be a starter in this league at some point.
Hey Nick I know he?s just a rookie but Omer is busting his butt on the off/def boards every night, but why won?t they throw him the ball in the post. I know we have D.Rose and Booz to score but with the second group out there I think he can provide a low post presence. Afterall I am a 7 skilled footer. Give him the damn ball in the post!! He can do better that what Gibson has been providing for us lately.. Right?
As far as Omer's post moves go, I think it's just a matter of the coaching staff not having much confidence in them right now. With another year in the gym I think that will change though. Omer's time is coming on offense, just not this year.
Nick you mentioned if Howard goes off the Bulls might be in trouble. If I recall correctly, their last victory against Orlando, Howard exploded for something like 40 and 15, correct? I feel like if they pressure the shooters to miss their shots, they have a real good shot at winning again, especially since Noah, I believe, can limit Howard to less than 40 and 15.
Chuck, you are right and that is what the Bulls are hoping happens again. The difference is that Jameer Nelson got hurt in the last game between these two teams and he appears to be fine now. If Howard gets going, he will have another, better option this time around.
As a likely favorite for Coach of the Year, who else will be my toughest competition? Do I get your vote Nick?
I think Gregg Popovich is going to win the award, coach. Sorry.
Hang on everybody ... got to talk to Waddle and Silvy.
I'm back ... let's crank it up one more time.
Best center in Bulls history: Asik, Big Sexy, Luc Longley Or bill wennington?
It's going to end up being Noah.
If the bulls doesnt get much scoring out of anybody but d.rose in the playoffs u think they will address that in offseason like a 2 guard maybe?
The Bulls know they have to get a better two guard in here next year. I expect them to have one in the fold by next year's deadline. Who that is? No one is quite sure, but they will find one.
Hey Nick what happen wednesday??? Did the Hawks play good defense against Rose or was he just off?
Rose was just off. But the Bulls had no intensity in the second half. They gave the game away and they know it.
Im supposed to drive my wife out to DC this weekend and we are leaving in a hour or so. How can i still be able to watch the game and make it a fun night for me too lol.
Try to pick up the ESPN 1000 signal and listen to Chuck and Bill on the call. Or else, have your wife check Twitter and follow myself and the Chuck Attack. That will make for an entertaining night, at least for you. Tell her you will take her to Matchbox when you get to DC. That restaurant is legit.
Nick, I too feel the Bulls are not quite good enough to take it all this year and the obviously need to upgrade at the 2. Is Jason Richardson out of our league for a FA signing? I like his shooting and athleticism. I know this year he is making a ton (I think close to 15 mil) but that will sure go down as he has aged and the new CBA.
Nick, He would be a good fit. It all depends on what the CBA looks like. The Magic are trying to re-sign him, but I'm sure the Bulls would have interest if he didn't.
Seriously, Nick. I've submitted some good points/unique questions, and you're posting/answering questions/posts like "duh... umm... what happened Wednesday night?" and "i'm supposed to drive my wife out to DC..."? Come on, buddy. Let's get real up in this chat.
Darius, What's your question, my man?
Hey Nick,Do my questions make you think too much and that's why you don't answer them? Please address this question. The Bulls are 26-4 at home but 15-14 on the road, what are they doing wrong? My opinion is not playing 4 quarters. It seems that a lot of the road losses they get blown out in 1 of the quarters.
John, I love all the questions, there are just a lot of them. The difference is that the Bulls, like a lot of teams, simply play with more confidence at the UC. The effort, for whatever reason, isn't as consistent on the road. Thibs knows it and is trying to figure out the problem. I think it's just a lack of focus sometimes.
Sorry Nick just having a bad day.... your the best!!
Ha. There you go. Hang in there, buddy. Things will get better.
just messing w/ya Nick! Thanks for answering my question bra!
Ok, good. That's what I like to hear. We want everybody to have a good time.
Nick if you were an ice cream flavor what would you be?
Ah, Scal. A good way to end it. I'd go with strawberry. An old reliable. It will always be there and it's always good.
Talk to everybody next week. This was a record setting chat. Let's keep it going from the Berto Center next Friday. If you are at the games this week come by and say hello.
