Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:02 PM)

Greetings people. Nice to see you here, thanks for coming.

Midge (Indy)

Let's say that Colts don't go OT in first round (even though we hope they do), then what position do they go after?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:02 PM)

Defensive tackle or wide receiver.

Jack (Colorado)

Will th Broncos win the AFC west this upcoming season, if there is a season?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:03 PM)

Nothing has happened to change my stance on the Broncos stinking. And bad teams will stay bad with a lockout.

Matthew (Baltimore)

As the AFC South specialist what do you think of the Titans offense...Cj,Britt, and solid Oline...who can they get at tightend and quarterback to make them an overall good offense

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:04 PM)

Middle of the O-line was not solid last season. They aren't going to be looking for a No. 1 tight end, they'll be looking for a No. 3 to work behind Cook and Stevens. They need a QB before we can presume anything about them being good on offense.

Matt R. (terre Haute)

Do you think the Colts will dab into the Free agents well this off season? There are lots of big names out there, anyone you see them going after?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:05 PM)

I don't see them caring about size of name. They need a good player or two who fit what they do. They've said they'll be more active pursuing one or two outsiders. They said last year they'd fix the offensive line. So who knows?

Neil (Nashville)

Is Rusty Smith our QB of the future?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:07 PM)

Maybe, but not to the degree where having him affects what you do in terms of player acquisition.

Midge (Indy)

Jim Irsay already said he would make Peyton highest paid player. So what's the hold up with getting a new contract signed?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:07 PM)

There are a lot of numbers after one dollar over Brady. Agreeing he'll be highest paid doesn't make for a deal that structures itself.

Trevor (Tampa)

I don't understand why the NFL make-up isn't more geographical. Is there any talk about realigning the divisions to better match their geographical location? I understand certian rivalries and ratings, but wouldn't rivalries be better played when your rival is in close proximity? AFC South: ATL, JAX Charlotte & Tampa. AFC Central: Nashville, Houston, NO, Miami. Indy somewhere mixed in with a division. This is just an example, but wouldn't this help with ratings, attendance, etc?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:09 PM)

Let it go. It matters far less than existing rivalries. You're not splitting the Cowboys from the Giants/Redskins/Eagles no matter the geography. History trumps geography.

Jesse (Blacksburg, Va)

The conversation about the CBA is mostly about the revenue split. One thing that I think can use a change though is the fine appeal system. From what I've read, Goodell hands out or at least oversees the fines, and he has a great deal of influence over the appeals. Players like Harrison lost a lot of money last year, so do you think they are trying to change the appeals or fine system?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:09 PM)

It's a C tier issue at best.

STEVE (LAKEPORT,CA)

Why didn't the Titans go after a big name coach? Is it because their cheap?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:11 PM)

Who's the last big name coaching hire to take his team to the Super Bowl? Is Tom Coughlin a big name to you? Guess it's him. Did you know and love Mike McCarthy? Mike Tomlin? Back in the day I bet you didn't know Andy Reid. Don't obsess about the bigness of names.

Midge (Indy)

Any insight on Indy's switching of Reich and Turner coaching responsibilities?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:12 PM)

None that I haven't written. Would really love some more, but Colts are in hiding.

Dustin (Stanford CA)

Any chance the TItans grab Peterson or Prince A at CB if one of them falls? Seems like CB has decent depth for them at this point...

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:12 PM)

Possible based on value, but I don't rate corner as a need.

Drew (Louisville, KY)

Alright PK, shoot straight with us here. What are the chances of having a full season this year? Are they going to get this thing worked out or not?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:13 PM)

33 percent chance of full season. 99 percent chance of partial season with a Super Bowl.

Chief (Tennessee)

Who is your favorite character on The Good Wife?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:13 PM)

The Good Wife herself, of course. Great show. Not soft. Least favorite: Eli.

condor (raleigh)

why do a NFL team release a player and turn around and the player the very next day or and the same week?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:14 PM)

To free itself of a contract it can't handle and be in position to negotiate another one.

GREGORY P BEARRINGER (Hello)

(assuming the Will the Colts sign a major FA O-lineman (Like Gaither) or will they go with a couple of minor FA? do you think they would go for a guard or a Tackle?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:14 PM)

I think if you get a tackle, then you have some tackles who may be able to be guards.

Drew (Richmond,VA)

Bob Sanders said as he was leaving the Colts he would always be a Colt in his heart, that said he's talked to the Bills, Jags, and now hes met with the ongoing frat party known as the Feets...ahem...Jets... is it a good possiblity he's seeing the same type offers the Colts gave him and is considering returning to Indy? also is there any word on how much his bicepts has healed?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:15 PM)

He passed the Jaguars physical. Colts have moved on, I believe.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:16 PM)

ATTENTION Chatters; The Titans have said multiple times they intend to find a veteran quarterback and draft one. I believe that is what they should do. There will be no questions taken on what I think they should do, as I've hit that hard in the blog and again now. Thank you.

Zeke (Jax, Fl)

Whats your thoughts on Ponder? Do you feel that his injury history is a big concern for anyone that drafts him?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:17 PM)

Certainly his arm will have to check out. But I think a lot of teams will be intrigued.

Dale (Nash)

I always see McElroy rated as a second or third tier QB. Based on stats and competition, I just don't understand. As a long time Titans fan, I'd happily take a guy that can only throw the ball 30 yards if he can consistently be accurate.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:17 PM)

Why not set the bar higher and get a guy who can consistently be accurate AND can throw it longer than 30 yards?

Brent (Bethlehem)

chances carson palmer gets traded to the titans and at what price

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:18 PM)

I could see Arizona and/or San Francisco outbidding the Titans.I would think he's worth a second-round pick.

Jeremy (Pleasant Shade)

PK, how do feel about the idea of the Titans getting bigger at DT and moving Jones to DE with Morgan?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:19 PM)

Jones next to a bigger DT at DT makes sense to me. They could move him. But then they'd be starting from close to nothing at DT, unless you're banking on Brown's knee, Marks' emergence or a big turnaround from Haye.

Peyton Manning (Indianapolis)

Why did you say Eli was your least favorite character without telling me ahead of time? Eli is my brother's name. We haven't been communicating well and I feel left in the dark.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:19 PM)

I could see how that might be confusing to you. I'm OK with your brother. I talk to him almost as much as I talk to you, actually.

Jay (Spring, Tx.)

Do you think it was Wade Phillips at the combine who said the Texans could use Weddle? After not tendering Pollard, I think now safety becomes a priority at least in free agency

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:20 PM)

With or without Pollard, safety should have been a priority,

Mike L (Roanoke, VA)

What are your impressions of Chris Polian? Have you met him? How far does the apple fall from the tree?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:21 PM)

Know him only a little. Don't have a great sense of him. Want to know him better, for sure.

Jacob (Ohio)

With the 16th pick in the draft, do you think the Jags will take a defensive lineman or do you think they will take a chance on some safety or a quarterback?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:22 PM)

Not a safety.

Kevin (TX)

Do you think the Colts will have internal discussions about Sidney Rice, or does he not fit into their system? And will the prospect of NE adding him impact their view of their own team in any way?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:22 PM)

I think it will hurt them to watch him go to New England, but I bet that's what happens.

Thomas (San Antonio)

If Fairly, Daereus, and Gabbert for some strange reason are still on the board when the Tians pick, who do you think they would draft?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:23 PM)

I don't know. I would take Dareus.

Dillon K (Houston,TX)

Hey PK, I'm heading down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras this weekend.. any advice?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:23 PM)

Pace yourself. Steer clear of Harrah's. Have a Hand Grenade.

AllenOU (Houston)

Regarding Owen Daniels and Derrick ward being resigned, and Daniels at only 6 mil guaranteed, would you keep jacoby jones, and at what price? Im assuming leach will get a contract as well, and that seems like an awful lot of money towards offense, no?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:24 PM)

I'm not excited about Jacoby Jones. I'd like to see them add one WR.

Gabe Carimi (Indianapolis)

It's pretty clear that I'm the best LT in the draft. My next goal is to challenge Brett Keisel for best beard in the NFL. Think I have a chance?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:24 PM)

Now that Keisel has shaved, sure.

Dustin (Stanford CA)

Seems like a bad draft for safeties...What are the S needy teams in the AFC South going to do? Are their any good free agents? Who is the best of the draftable safeties?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:25 PM)

Rahim Moore is top safety, out of UCLA. Second rounder, probably. Free agents to be include Eric Weddle, Dawan Landry.

Chris (Waco, Tx)

Also,1. Appreciate your frequent collectedness in light of criticism.2. Any word on Texans interest in Sanders, Weddle, at this point...Buhler, Buhler...anyone to play safety?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:26 PM)

They can't talk about free agents to be yet. So I've not heard anything from inside.

Robert (New mexico)

Do u think this year the Texans will finally try the big splash FA signing like NNamdi, or hold the line of build through the draft. Seems like more teams will have to go harder in FA since the draft will probably be over and FA is the last way to fill holes in roster. No fall back to fill through draft if u don't make big gains in FA!

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:26 PM)

They need more than a draft can give them. You can't draft experience or immediate leadership.

grammar (not in this chat room)

are you getting frustrated by my absence here? Is it affecting your ability to understand questions? Or should I not be concerned since it's only Chat?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:27 PM)

Better is better. Always.

Charlie Sheen (Charlie Sheen, CS)

Any way a drug called Charlie Sheen could help the CBA talks along?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:27 PM)

Why not try it?!?

Steve (Longview, Texas)

When Jeff Fisher is placed in the Ring of Honor, who will be presenting him? Justin Gage, Lamont Thompson, or Lendale White?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:28 PM)

You don't really get presented. A team exec introduces him. But I'd love to see Lamont or Deron Jenkins do it.

Collins Arm (Getting Older Each Day)

Loved the article comparing me to Carson's. Regardless of which team I throw for, how many more seasons do you see me being effective before turning into a limp noodle?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:28 PM)

You could be a guy who's arm never dies. It'll just be other pieces.

Josh (Jacksonville)

since all you can answer is Titans questions, what did Bud Adams have for breakfast. You head is so far up his butt you should know.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:30 PM)

Wow was that clever. And good job by you taking advantage of the opportunity to ask a non-Titans question. (He had a club sandwich. He loves club sandwiches.)

Concerned Citizen (Therapy)

PK, with a lockout even closer...will you be able to devote adequate time communicating with your friend, Peyton Manning? I know your relationship can be tumultuous at times and poorly lit.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:30 PM)

I imagine we don't hear a word from him during a shutdown.

William (New York, NY)

What do you think of the Titans signing Hasselback for 2 years and drafting someone like Colin Kaepernick in the 2nd or 3rd round?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:30 PM)

I've seen worse plans. Is he healthy? If so, can we have a look alike contest when he gets to Nashville?

Fred (Jacksonville)

Who do you believe the Jags would like to "reach" for in the first round this year?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:31 PM)

That "reach" is turning out just fine.

John (Austin)

Any chance the Texans are able to move up and get Von Miller?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:32 PM)

The question is the cost. Miller solves one big issue, but getting him would mean the Texans are less equipped to fill other holes like NT, FS, SS, CB, another OLB, maybe a WR....

Dan (Raleigh)

Do the Jags look at Bernard 'Brady Killer' Pollard or see what Bob 'Bicep Killer' Sanders decides?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:33 PM)

How about an Eric Weddle, Rahim Moore combo?

Zeke (Jax, Fl)

Will this draft have a rookie wage scale?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:34 PM)

The owners intend for this class to have one, yes. Could be unresolved as the draft is held.

Daniel M. (Tennessee)

With the Fisher staff mostly gone, do you think that Munchak making players more "accountable" will help the Titans improve as a whole team? It seems to me that a few players got cozy in their jobs and felt like they didn't have to worry about their job secuirty.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:35 PM)

Certainly that should be better and more effective. More veteran leadership would help too. They need a Hope/ Thornton/ Mawae offseason.

Chad (Omaha)

Do you see the Jags taking a QB this year in the draft maybe in the later rounds? may like a Colin Kaepernick from Nevada?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:37 PM)

How second-tier quartebacks look for the Titans and Jaguars

Jason (Murfreesboro)

Any chance the Titans release any of the following players: Gage, Hope, Haye? Looks like they're all due to be paid more than they're worth.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:38 PM)

I would expect Gage gone, and Haye gone. Hope likely lasts, maybe at reduced cost. Harder to find replacement.

Clint Session (Indianapolis)

You tell that punk Carimi there's no way he's gonna have the best beard in the NFL. I looked like a homeless version of Kimbo Slice during our winning streak two years ago. Also, should the Colts keep me around? I can't play through injuries, unlike the rest of the defense.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:40 PM)

Your beard does scare me. I think you probably get a chance to shop around.

Shane (Portland, IN)

Drafting offensive lineman is like watching paint dry, tell me who the Colts might go after in FA to get me a little bit excited ...

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:41 PM)

Offensive linemen aren't exciting, but they keep your quarterback from getting hurt and help a running back get a tough yard.

Larry (Houston, TX)

Do you think that Glover Quin can play a safety spot and actually be effective in that position? of course this is assuming that the NFL fixes its CBA woes.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:42 PM)

Why not find safeties to play safety and leave your best corner at corner?

Mike Munchak (About to see a Lockout)

Hey PK, good to see you here. Question about Washburn. Do you think he could have stayed with us had my transition over Fisher happened sooner? Do you think he regrets leaving now with all of the changes that have occurred, or his decision is further cemented?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:43 PM)

He wanted to see what coaching life would be like somewhere else. I think he would have gone no matter what.

Clay (Jax)

Should the Jags re-sign MSW? looks like him and J. Hill will test the market, which leaves receiver depth at Thomas, Osgood, Dillard, Underwood and rookie....I don't like the feel of that. Thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:44 PM)

With or without MSW and or Hill they need to find a play-making receiver.

JC (TN)

If Palmer does get traded to the Titans or the 49ers, do you see the Bengals taking on these teams' lame duck QB's (VY, Alex Smith) in return (in addition to draft picks obviously)?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:44 PM)

No. I see them drafting a QB. Why do we presume they want garbage?

Zeke (Jax, Fl)

Do you think the Jags take Derrick Harvey to camp or do you think they will cut him before due to his high base salary?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:45 PM)

Yes. They don't start paying the base salary until the season. So no reason to cut him without seeing if a light's gone on unless you're positive he has no worth.

Woodrow (Indy)

I know this is not in the Colts pedigree but do they colts need to take a serious look at robert gallery?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:47 PM)

A OT gets cut/ comes free. The chat fills up with "Should the Colts look at him" questions. A little simplistic. What makes Gallery a great match considering all the players they don't chase?

Zeke (Jax, Fl)

If there is free agency this year, who would be at the top of your list if you were the Jags GM?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:48 PM)

Eric Weddle, the safety from San Diego. Would have liked Chad Greenway, but he got franchised in Minnesota.

Corey (D.C.)

If Kevin Kolb was in this years draft, wouldnt Tennessee take him at #8 and be thrilled about it? Same with Arizona at #5 I would imagine. So why then are these teams unwilling to part with that same exact pick? Ive never understood this.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:49 PM)

Yeah, picks tend to get overvalued. And it's different for them when they make the pick or when the player in question is someone else's. I'm not positive I'd give No. 8 for Kolb. But I'd take him ahead of Newton or Gabbert.

Justin (Seattle)

Manning has been given so much credit for being in control the Colts offensive plays, but he seemed angry many times with Clyde Christensen this season when walking to the sidelines. What is the real structure of play-calling control in Indy? (BTW thank you for being the best ESPN division blogger.)

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:50 PM)

Christensen is calling in a couple options, Manning is picking between them but has wide latitude. He can be acting mad towards CC over a bad route or missed hole. Why assume it's a play-call?

Jason (Bmore)

Does Jacob Tamme's success eventually make Dallas Clark a cap casualty?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:51 PM)

There is a big difference between the two. Clark is crucial.

Bruce Springsteen (New Jersey)

Has the complete NFL Draft Order been set yet? All Clarence and I can find is the first round order.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:51 PM)

You can find three rounds. Compensatory picks scramble it after that. They come out end of month.

Woody (Owensboro)

Can the Titans trade Vince Young? And is so, why wouldn't they trade him to the Bengals?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:52 PM)

A) No player trades until new CBA, and b) The Bengals would HAVE TO WANT HIM AND HIS CONTRACT.

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

Left a ticket for you at the door for the Old 97's show in Jax Beach. Also had a beer in hand waiting for you to show up. Ok, those are both lies but it was a great gig. Rhett and the boys really know how to end it with a punch. Those Darlins weren't bad either.

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:53 PM)

Yet the live album is bad. How do you poorly produce a great live band?

Time (always moving 1 second ahead)

Do I feel slower to you today than during other chats? Feels like over an hour has passed and it's only been about 45 minutes...

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:53 PM)

Welcome to my world...

J.C. (Indianapolis)

Has Peyton Manning actually signed his franchise offer

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:54 PM)

No.

Zeke (Jax, Fl)

Do you know what the Jags get in compensation for the Reggie Nelson trade?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:55 PM)

They got what they got -- David Jones. The pick part was conditional and that didn't get trigger.

David (Harrisonburg, VA)

Condolences on people asking the same stupid questions over and over. That being said, should the Titans trade Vince Young to Indy for Peyton Manning?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:55 PM)

They should. They should trade VY for Peyton and Dwight Freeney.

Bruce Matthews (Houston/Nashville)

Hey PK, do you envy and covet my nephew's long blond locks?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:56 PM)

I think bald is in. Works for Agassi, Hasselbeck, Ed Harris, etc...

ben (jacksonville)

why does every mock draft have the jags picking the d lineman the bigger need is in the back?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:56 PM)

Because safety at 16 is a force with this talent pool and DE is loaded.

Bud (Nashville)

PK, of the four teams that you cover, if you could pick 5 guys to have a beer with who would they be and why?

Paul Kuharsky
 (3:58 PM)

Top of my head: Manning, Wayne, MJD, Foster, and Knighton. I want to see how many beers Knighton can drink.

Jay (FL)

If Rahim Moore is available in the second, do the Colts take him? Also, could Laron Landry be a replacement for Sanders?

Paul Kuharsky
 (4:00 PM)

If they can keep Bullitt, I think they have positions of bigger need and will see more talented players in the second whether Moore is there or not.

Woodrow (Indy)

Tell me something about the Houston Texans that is going to make them a 10 win team, in your opinion.

Paul Kuharsky
 (4:01 PM)

I'd like to, but I don't see them as a 10-win team. Is a dream a lie if it don't come true, or is it something worse?

Brian F. (Jacksonville, FL)

I thought it was interesting to read the Titans are looking to go bigger at DE, emphasizing the position as more run stopping. That seems contradictory to the formula of winning the AFCS (stop Manning and Schaub) but are the Titans being a bit more forward thinking in seeing the running attack being more of a threat long term? If PM has another 4 to 5 good years left I'm thinking speed at DE is still a must.

Paul Kuharsky
 (4:01 PM)

They didn't say they want to go slow. They said they want to be bigger.

JC (Indianapolis)

My question earlier about Peyton not signing yet. Is he not signing it because of legal issues regarding the lockout? Union going to use him as an example that the tag is "illegal"?

Paul Kuharsky
 (4:02 PM)

He's not signing it, I would imagine, because there is a lot of time between now and the deadline for signing it.

Paul Kuharsky
 (4:02 PM)

Where's my last question guy?

The Real Last Question (This Week)

Hi PK, sorry I have missed the last few weeks, and I was not impressed with my impersonators :) I noticed chat was skipped last week probably due to the combine. Are we on for next week even if/when the lockout happens?

Paul Kuharsky
 (4:03 PM)

Who knows, really? It's all about supply and demand. And we know I have supply.

Paul Kuharsky
 (4:03 PM)

Thanks for coming folks. Enjoy the labor developments!
