Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Ben (New York)

DeMarcus Van Dyke = Future Raider?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:02 PM)

Fastest guy at the combine. Rings a bell, doesn't it. Oakland may need a young corner as well. Keep an eye on it.

Trevor ( Canada)

Raiders D, Are they building a bully?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:03 PM)

That's what Hue JAckson wants. We'll see.

bronc fan (dallas, tx)

would it make sense for the broncos to trade orton and a 2nd round pick to carolina for their 1st pick? the bronc's could then grab peterson AND darious!!

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:04 PM)

I think it take a lot mroe than that for the No. 1 pick.

Malcolm (Asheville, NC)

As a raider's fan I cannot be too excited about J Campbell as our QB. Is there anything coming from Alemeda to indicate the raider's may draft a QB? Mallett seems like a perfect fit?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:05 PM)

Well, I think Campbell is the quarterback for 2011. We'll see beyond that. I think Mallett could be the pick if he drops all the way No. 48, but that appears unlikely.

Trevor (Canada)

Can Loper replace Gallery as effectively as he did last year?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:06 PM)

I think it would be a downgrade. I also want to see what Bruce Campbell can do. Perhaps Loper and Campbell will both start.

Terry Fudd (Dallas, TX)

What do you think will happen to Eric Weddle? The Chargers need to get him signed - but from what I've heard he is asking for way too much. Thoughts?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:08 PM)

I think he'll stay. We'll have to see how the restricted free agency deal works out, but I do know the Chargers want to keep him.

Vernon Dad (Northern California)

Bill - Do you see any real possibility that Carolina would take Cam Newton with the #1 pick or do you think one of the defensive players will be off the Big Board when the Broncos select at #2. I'm nervous that Fairly won't be available. But, I'm afraid there are at least a baker's dozen worth of picks that are better value than Cam Newton. What do you think?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:10 PM)

Newton or Blaine Gabbert could go to Carolina. Mel Kiper's latest mock draft has Gabbert going No. 1. I think it's possible Carolina does go wit ha QB. I know that's what Denver is rooting.

Keith (New Jersey)

who do you think would win in a foot race? Ford or Heyward-Bey?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:11 PM)

Tough one. I'd say Ford.

Citadel (The Military)

Bill - it is good to see you pop into the comments section of your blog every once in a while. Speaking for myself and all of my followers within the comments section - we love it! Please don't be a stranger!

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:11 PM)

Cool, thank you. I'll try to bounce in now and then.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

I was against it at first, but I'm starting to think the Broncos go with PP at #2. He seems like the surest thing, and the DL talent pool is deep enough to go front 7 with the 2 second rounders? Call me stupid?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:13 PM)

Not stupid at all. It may be one of those deals where a team would be nervous to do it until they made the choice and then they'd be thrilled. Denver would be lcoked down at cornerback, but there still would be D-line issues unless it socred in free agency.

Clint G. (Midland, TX)

Which QB likely to be around in Rd. 3 or beyond fits the Raiders vertical passing game best?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:14 PM)

Perhaps Nevada's Colin Kaepernick. I don't think he'll be there beyond the thrid round.

Shaun (Livermore, CA)

In your opinion are the Raiders close?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:15 PM)

For sure. I'd like to see Campbell take the next step and the offensive line and receivers needs to step up as well. It'd also be nice to see Asomugha stay. But the Raiders appear to be on the right track.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Were you a fan of Champ's contract, and does Routt's contract influence that opinion?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:17 PM)

Let's just say the Broncos are happy they got Bailey's deal done before Routt's deal was done.

Jason (Parker, CO)

Bill... If Peterson is available @#2 Why wouldn't denver take him? I know they have needs @ DL, but don't we want to take the Best player available that we have a need for? That's how NE & PITTS

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:18 PM)

Best player available always seems to be the best route, doesn't it.

Keith (Caswell)

when in the draft would the raiders take VanDyke?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:19 PM)

MId-rounds probably.

Penizze McQuaid (San Diego)

Do you see any scenario under which the Chargers could conceivably be looking at Mark Ingram from Alabama in the 1st round to provide some competition at the position for Matthews and maybe also a bit of thunder and lightening approach?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:19 PM)

I think that's what Mike Tolbert is for.

Victor (Sacramento, CA)

What's your opinion on Denvers new D Coordinator? Guy seems like an up & comer. Already has the Sean Payton seal of approval

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:21 PM)

I know Fox likes him. I think Denver needed to take a chance on a young guy. It badly needs some good coaching on defense.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

I'm sad the Broncos missed on Otogwe. Seems like there is a dearth of talent via FA or draft...

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:22 PM)

Yes, it's not great. There's a couple of second-round prospects, but you are right, it's not deep.

Keith (Caswell)

if tiki barber did come to the raiders, what role would he play?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:23 PM)

Third-down guy. I'm not sure it's worth it. Sorry, but I can't get excited about a 36-year-old who hasn't played in five years. It smells of a cash-grab. If I'm a tema, I say let someone else give him the cash.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:24 PM)

What do you folks think of Barber?

Richard (Topeka, Ks)

Can the Chiefs repeat with another West title?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:26 PM)

Sure, but the new offense must work and Cassel has to make strides in it. The schedule is going to be tougher, so the Chiefs will have to adjust. But I don't think this roster is a fluke. It's good.

kenree (in)

Better fit for the Chiefs: Akeem Ayers from UCLA or Justin Houston out of GA?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:29 PM)

I think that will come down to taste. Both are good and borh are comparable. I think they will be picked in that 20-28 range. Similar guys.

KingKev (TX)

Will Zach Miller be a Raider next year?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:30 PM)

I would be stunned if he isn't there in 2011. Stunned.

Corey (D.C.)

Ive read San Diego and KC as potentially being interested in Sidney Rice. Neither of these teams makes any sense to me. Do either makes sense to you?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:32 PM)

Both teams may need a receiver. I think Rice may be too rich for each team's blood, so I wouldn't say either tema isa favorite.

Steve (NY)

From the couch Stanford Routt's play didn't seem quite as good as his statistics would imply. As fans, are we too critical of him because he has the unenviable task of playing opposite Nnamdi Asomugha or is he truly what most of us see --- an average player?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:34 PM)

Those burn numbers are impressive, but I don know a lot of people aren't high on him. It may be the Nnamdi factor. To be honest, if Nnanmdi goes and Routt is Oakland's No. 1 cornerback next year, I think opponents will really come after him. He 'll have to prove himself.

Victor (Sacramento, CA)

Say Denver can trade down a few spots & nab Peterson, how far is the lowest they'd be able to go to ensure getting him? It seems SF is the next likeliest after us to grab him @ #7

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:35 PM)

Yeah, I'd say so. Same thing perhaps with Von Miller.

Andrew Baker (Tupelo)

Possibility of a Kolb-Asoghuma trade?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:37 PM)

I think the Raiders are happy with Campbell. Plus, Nnamdi is free. Can't be traded.

Chiefs fan (Topeka, Ks)

You are lame and obviously don't care for the Chiefs at all who cares about the two worst teams in the division and that is all you want to talk about I am out of here. We need somebody that is not byes of the teams in the division.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:38 PM)

Ask a quesiton and I'll try to find it an answer it. Deal?

Victor (Sacramento, CA)

Fox seems confident he'll have a contender in the next few seasons. Your thoughts?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:38 PM)

What else is something to say?

Guillermo (san diego ca)

Hey Bill chances of the chargers trading down for J.J Watt

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:40 PM)

They might have to trade up for him. Some people think he'll be a top 10 choice.

tim (missouri)

will brian dawkins get cut? if the broncos pick PP will that make a difference on dawkins future?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:41 PM)

The fact that Dawkins wasn't part of recent cuts by Dnever makes me think it wants to keep him. But it will likley be with a pay cut. No, I don't think Peterosn would have any affect on Dawkins.

phil (san deigo)

What's your take on the Bob Sanders signing and what position could you see the Chargers going after with the 18th pick?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:43 PM)

I'm like most people on the Sanders' deal. It's low risk, but I wouldn't count on him. If he can stay healthy, it's a score. Right now, I like Cal DE Cameron Jordan at No. 18. That would be a nice pick.

Scott (San Diego)

Which two ILBs will the Chargers resign -- Cooper, Burnett, and siler?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:43 PM)

It might just be one. I'd say Burnett.

Wayne (Wichita)

How much per year is Brandon Carr worth if Routt is worth $10-$11 a year? More / less ?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:44 PM)

I'd say ballpark.

Chris (Hoboken (near Jersey Shore))

Hey Bill, do you think the Broncos will wind up trading Orton and what do you think they get in return?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:45 PM)

Yes, I think Orton is dealt. I'd say a second or a third rounder.

Steve (NY)

Why doesn't Steve Wisniewski get any hall of fame consideration? Great player....he made 8 pro bowls in 13 NFL seasons. I've never even heard his name mentioned for the HOF.

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:46 PM)

Ypou know the HOF. There's a big logjam of deserving people.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Were suprised by the Bannon cut? He was their best lineman last year...

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:47 PM)

A little. He was decent and the team should they thought he could be a DT in the 4-3. There's not much there in Denver right now, I'm sure what the rush was to get rid of Bannan.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Could the Patriots be interested in moving up to #2? They have the ammunition, and could covet a pass rusher/WR...

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:49 PM)

Boy, do they have the ammo. Six picks in the first three rounds. Problem is top pick is No. 17. I don't think Denver wants to fall that fall unless they get like four picks and end with seven-eight picks in the top 67. That could be enticing for a team needing to rebuild.

jacorey (stockton)

coach jackson was here in stockton last week and i got chance to meet and get autograph from him he seems like a pretty nice guy who wants to make the raiders a bully and i hoope this bully culd run 2 the lambardi trophy in indianapoolis this year

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:50 PM)

Yes, he seems like a nice guy.

John (Neb.)

If the draft was held tonight and Carolina took a QB at #1, who would you predict Denver would draft at #2?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:52 PM)

Last mock draft choice was Bowers. But I keep going back and forth. it's took close to tell right now.

Tony (Redlands, CA)

If Quinn, Clayborn & Jordan are all still around at 18 (I'd be shocked) who is the Chargers pick? Which would be worth trading up a couple spots for?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:53 PM)

If Quinn is there, he'd be the pick. But I don't think he would be. But Quinn, Jordan and Watt all may be worth trading up for. Clayborn may drop some.

Vernon Bong (Sacramento)

Did Grad get a bad deal in Oakland? I see him as more effective than Boller...your thoughts?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:56 PM)

He could still come back, but I think it's clear the team likes Boller. I think Grad may be better than Boller for a game or so. But he is too injury prone and I don't think grad could be the long-term answer.

Jon (WI)

Do you think James Jones could end up in the AFC West?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:57 PM)

He could be a guy that interests the Chargers, Chiefs are Raiders. Could be a fit, yes.

Caleb (Denver)

Do you see Elway Coaching Tebow in his development process for starting QB?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:58 PM)

No, Elway is not going to be a coach but he is there to give Tebow pointers and guidance.

Tyler (PA)

Do you think Denver has a shot at winning the division next year?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:58 PM)

Just don't see it.

Steve (NY)

Will the Raiders be in the market for a CB (veteran or draft) if Asomugha leaves or will they rely on Chris Johnson and the development of the 2nd year players like Walter McFadden and Jeremy Ware?

Bill WIlliamson
  (2:59 PM)

I think they'd be looking for some help there.

Keith (New Jersey)

whats your opinion on trevor scott and his role in the raiders defense next year?

Bill WIlliamson
  (3:00 PM)

I like him. He has nice pass-rushing skills. Too bad he got hurt.

Jared (OR)

Do you think that the Chargers might make a play for Demarco Murray in the mid rounds to replace Darren Sproles, since the team will more than likely not be able to sign him?

Bill WIlliamson
  (3:00 PM)

Maybe a kid like Oregon State's Rogers to replace Sproles.

Bill WIlliamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, everyone. Talk to you next week.
