  (2:00 PM)

Welcome to SportsNation lax fans. Today we have Villanova attackman Kevin Cunningham and longstick middie Brian Karalunas, who'll be hosting No. 1 Syracuse on Saturday at 7 p.m. in a critical Big East showdown.

Terry Foy
  (2:02 PM)

Cunningham and Karalunas are two of the best players in the country. Karalunas is among the nation's leaders with 37 caused turnovers and 35 groundballs, while Cunningham is among the nation's leading scorers with 20 goals and 13 assists.

Terry Foy
  (2:02 PM)

Let's get to your questions.

James (Malvern)

This question is for Kevin:Why do you wear tights all the time? Is it superstition? Or just to stay warm?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:03 PM)

cuz he thinks he looks cute in them

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:04 PM)

i wear them in the beggining of the season just to stay warm

Chris M (New York)

brian, on a scale from 1-10, how much do you love the chicken parm from pizzis.

Brian Karalunas
  (2:06 PM)

Anything from Pizzi's is a ten. Chicken club is another go to of mine, I highly recommend

Tom N (Philly)

Brian and Kevin, two wonderful players. I was wondering how important is the weight room to you two and what are your bench/squat statistics?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:07 PM)

Very important. We work hard in there. As for numbers, I'm more of a plyometric guy. Lots of box jumps.

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:08 PM)

well me n brian are lifting buddies but the weight room is very important to stay healthy during the season. I can bench 200 lbs and squat in the 300's

Paul W (Manhasset)

Would you say this years team is better than the team that won the CAA Championship and made the first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament for VU?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:09 PM)

Hard to compare, very different identities.

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:10 PM)

i agree with brian in the fact that they are two different teams

Roy Jones III (Philly)

Best dancer on the team? Chris Creighton?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:12 PM)

i would have to disagree and say that i am def the best dancer on the team

Brian Karalunas
  (2:12 PM)

Not a chance. Next question.

Dave (Long Island)

Seems like to Nova turnaround started 2 years ago. What guys from the past teams really got the program going on the right track

Brian Karalunas
  (2:14 PM)

We had great senior leadership my sophomore year. Those guys taught me a ton and the team still builds off their energy.

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:16 PM)

Over the last couple of years our teams have just been working harder and continuing to get better. When i came in as a freshman we had great leadership from the time i got here

Steve Perry (NY,NY)

Both you boys played in competitive leagues in NY. Who are some of the best players you played against in HS?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:17 PM)

I had a lot of great players on my high school team. To name a few of the best I played against: Christian Daly, Mike Centra, Jim Marshall, Paul Romano, and two-way middie Eddie Shepard in particular gave me fits.

David (Villanova)

What's the key to picking a solid goal song? A lot of thought must have went into your selections.

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:18 PM)

In the catholic league i played against kids like Nolan Hickey, Matt Gibson, Mike pratt, Mike Chanacuk , Sean Rodgers, along with other great players

Brian Karalunas
  (2:19 PM)

A ton of thought, I spent hours choosing. Now if I could only get mine to play...

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:20 PM)

Well mine was easy i had to relate my song to my red hair just to get a laugh out of the crowd

Chris M (New York)

Kevin, True/False...your not a natural red head.

Tim Driscoll Villanova '09 (NYC)

This questions if for Kevin. What number SPF do you use when the weather turns warm?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:23 PM)

false i am all natural. when it gets sunny out my go to is the spf 100 plus, you can never be to careful

Main Line Lax Fan (Bryn Mawr)

Great season so far guys, Few quick questions.1 Do you think size will be an issue against Cuse, quite a few Nova players claiming to be 5-10. 2 Can you explain the your offense seems like there is very little dogding from the top, lot of running in circles.3. Brian where did you pick up all of those take away checks, and do you enjoy having permission to randomky attack your victims when they set up their offense.

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:26 PM)

I do not think our size is going to be our problem at all, we are all very quick. And our offense is just basic motion and moving without the ball

Brian Karalunas
  (2:28 PM)

A lot of experimenting and seeing what works and what doesn't. Fortunately Coach has given me the green light to press out when I see the chance. And yes, I enjoy it greatly.

Jamie (New Jersey)

What are your thoughts going into Saturday's game vs Syracuse, does all the sudden attention factor into how you look at the game?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:29 PM)

no we look at every game the same

Brian Karalunas
  (2:31 PM)

No whoever we have next is the most important game on our schedule. We're going into this one the same way we go in to every game we have

john (philly)

if you two went 1 v 1 ten times, how many times would each of you win?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:33 PM)

Me 10/10

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:33 PM)

well i know all brians tricks, he doesn't scare....easily 10 out of 10

Nova79 (NYC)

Brain- Huge Fan. How do u do it? Seems like whoever u face its a loosing battle--for How much does pregame film help?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:35 PM)

Nova79, thanks a lot. Pregame film is as important as practice. It's good to get a feel for your opponent's tendencies before waiting for the first dodge.

Jeff (Villanova)

Kevin-are you the fastest guy on the team?..Fastest guy on any sports team at Villanova?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:41 PM)

yea i think i am the fastest one on the team, at the school i am not sure though there are some pretty fast guys here but i would race anyone

Matt P (Albany)

Brian, John Lade told me he is better at bowling than you are. Who in fact is better and what is your high score?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:43 PM)

Haha I don't know Lade's score off the top of my head but I'd have to agree with him. I think my High is somewhere in the 20-30 range. That's with bumpers.

jim (new york)

Kevin, I drafted you on my fantasy team as a mid! What happened? Either way, you're killing it for me. Good luck the rest of the year!

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:45 PM)

haha thanks a lot jim sorry about the confusing about being a mid, i am an attackman these days used to play mid

CreaseMonkey (NYC)

kevin, besides cradle cradle shoot, what would you say is one of your go to moves?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:46 PM)

well the cradle cradle shoot is def my favorite moves, i really do not need any others besides that

Mark (Virginia)

What's the difference between this years team and last years team? What's the key to your teams success?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:47 PM)

The key to our success is working hard everyday in practice and taking one game at a time and playing up to our potential

Brian Karalunas
  (2:49 PM)

We worked very hard in the off-season and every practice we try to get better. We agreed as a team early on to not take one day off.

Nick (Syracuse)

What has been more gratifying in your lacrosse career so far: Leading Jamesville-Dewitt highschool to a state championship in 2007? or your numerous accomplishments/awards with Villanova?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:52 PM)

Really tough question. Our state championship in high school is one of, if not the, highlight of my life. We're working hard to get a championship this year so hopefully I can match that feeling.

Pete Mootz (Nova)

This question is for brian... As a younger player working on takeaway checks does it help to cut down your shaft and work on timing. Most of my teammates and peers use much smaller sticks than mine. What do you think?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:54 PM)

Great question. My opinion, don't worry about what other people are using, in the end, it's beneficial to get used to the longer shaft

Matt (New York)

Do you enjoy watching any of the other sports teams play at Villanova? Are you guys boys with any other teams?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:55 PM)

yea i love watching other sports teams play. I am good friends with the baseball players and some football players

Brian Karalunas
  (2:56 PM)

Yeah, all the teams are close and support each other

Scott Stansbury (Notre Dame)

How important is safety during this very fast paced game of lacrosse played these days? How much protection do you wear to cover your arms and chest, and do you always make sure to wear your mouthguard?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:56 PM)

Safety is very important but I also like to be comfortable when I play. Personally, I wear the smallest gear I can find. I'm still working on a way to wear my mouthguard that won't hinder my communication with my other defensemen and goalie.

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:57 PM)

yea i wear small shoulder pads but big arms pads, its important to make sure you do not get hurt though

Mikey (Villanova)

Yo Kev, alotta love here from the football question is what is your pump up song?, im looking for a new one..oh PS I am faster lol

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:59 PM)

mikey will have to see about the faster comment haha i would have to say i'm a 50 cent guy before a game, you should try that

Brian (Conestoga)

who is the best dj on the team? what is the go to song these days in the locker room?

Kevin Cunningham
  (3:00 PM)

i would have to say i like dj vigmahhn and our go to these days is saxophone man

Brian Karalunas
  (3:00 PM)

I hate to give it to him, but it has to be Mike Vig. He brings a real nice mix of pump up and slow games. A lot of techno and old school hiphop these days.

Boys -Saturdays game -obviously big- What are the chances that Jay Wright and the entire student body gets involved ? 5000 fans would b awesome.

Brian Karalunas
  (3:01 PM)

We get great support from our fans and you can expect a packed house on Saturday. How many has a lot to do with how the weather holds up.

Kevin Cunningham
  (3:02 PM)

Its a huge game i hope our whole student body attends, it would be great for our team.

Terry Foy
  (3:05 PM)

All right, that's going to do it for Kevin and Brian as they get back to work. They thanked you all for your questions and hope to see you Saturday.
