Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:00 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Bill Williamson
  (2:00 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Will the NFL Lockout affect the NFL Draft?

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Not this year. We may not see the players on the podium, but that's it.

matt (pa)

bill assuming tebow starts where will orton and quinn end up?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Orton would be traded and Quinn would likely have a chance to be the No. 2 or No. 3 QB.

Josh (Jacksonville, Fl)

Bill, please tell me why everybody seems to be higher on dareus than fairley at number 2 for Denver? Fairley clearly is faster and more explosive on game tapes

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

I think it's just a matter of taste. Some teams like Dareus and some like Fairley.

Cheesehead Sports Nut (Chicago, IL)

From an outsiders perspective the two Super Bowl representatives from this year seem to have the most consistent front offices in the NFL. What front offices in the NFL besides the Packers, Steelers, and Patriots would you characterize as model front offices?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Good question. I think teams like the Chargers, Giants, Jets, Saints, Eagles Chiefs, Falcons, Colts, Ravens all do a pretty good job.

C.J. (San Diego)

It seems like Elway doesn't trust Tebow, is it possible that Tebow could be traded, if Denver decides to draft a QB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I just don't know what Denver would get for Tebow if he was traded before the season (he can only be traded after the lockout is over). He was the No. 25 pick last eyar. I don't think Denver would get that value back.

Jeff (Downtown)

Bill,Please tell me that Denver is not going to blow the #2 pick with a bust...is not the safest bet Perterson? Everyone else seems to be a risk.

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Nearly every player to come into the league is a risk ... I don't think we'll know the "bust" for a few years.

Mitur Binisdurty (Pakistan)

Are you espn_billwilliamson in the comments? Thank you buddy

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Yes sir. i try to ocassionally come in.

Tim Tebow (Denver, CO)

Should I be worried that my team is looking at rookie QB's?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Maybe a little.

Richard (Greensboro, NC)

Do you agree that Denver's top need is DE? I've seen that mentioned in multiple places but I still believe DT to be a bigger need than DE given the players they currently have.

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

I think they ened a pass rusher. But I'm with you. I'd take a DT and start from there.

Anthony (NYC: NY)

Will you be at the Draft this coming April? If so, what do you enjoy the most out of being there? And also, how do you think Pioli will go about this draft, strategy-wise?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

I've never been to NYC for the drafct. I'm always at a team's headquarters. As for Pioli, it will be the same. Smart, good-charatcer guys. Probably be SEC heavy as usual.

Matt (NJ)

Broncos draft Patrick Peterson with the second overall pick, the grab Stephen Paea with one of their second rounders, and Rahim Moore with the other. Good draft, and ready to compete again right?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

Pretty good. Definitelya good start.

TJ (Tulsa , ok )

Hey Bill, who do you think the Chiefs will acquire in the first and second rounds?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Who knows at this point. But they'll look at pass-rushers, OL and perhaps a receiver.

Eric (CA)

What's it going to take to get the owners and players to pull their heads out of their you know whats and get a deal done? This lockout is bad business for EVERYONE. How they don't see that is beyond me...

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

They need to start talking. Waiitng for the courts is not helping.

James (Anchorage)

I dont understand the fuss about the Broncos looking at QB's. Didnt Jimmy Johnson draft Steve Walsh the year after Aikman, and didnt Green Bay take Brian Brohm the year after Rodgers. An organization should always pursue the best talent.

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

Sure. They have to look at QBs. But there are other eneds at this point.

jt (kansas city, ks)

who or how come up with the comp picks? and what are the highest comp pick that i can expect the chiefs to get?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

The word is it's coming Friday. I think the Cheifs could get a late-round pick.

Jesse (LA)

Hey Bill, If Jason Campbell doesn't work out then what ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Then the Raiders would start over. That's why they may want to take a QB early this year as insurance for the future.

Daylon (Wyoming)

Is Lendale White still in Denver's plans? He looked pretty good in limited action last year. And we need a power back in the worst way.

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

He was a guy they brought in becuase of many injuries. He's coming off a major injury. I think Denver would look at him as insurance, but not much more at this point.

Bubba (Phoenix)

What do you make of Peterson's horribly low wonderlic test score? If the guy isn't bright enough to learn an NFL playbook, then he'll get burned in coverage confusion all the time! As a Chargers fan who will likely face Peterson, we'll take that all night long, Bubba, all night long!!

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

It's not ideal. But he has so many other attributes. I don't think it will scare teams.

Eric (CA)

Over/Under the new CBA gets done in time for training camp?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

I say yes. But I've been optimisitic during this whole deal. And I've been wrong so far.

Eric (CA)

Bill, now that the Raiders have Seymour locked up, do you change your stance on the trade? There won't be a single player available for that pick that could have as much of an impact as Seymour...

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

I like Semyour he's a fine player. I just hope he can stay healthy. He's getting up there. Here's the deal from the Pats' perspective. They wnet to the playoffs both years since the trade, they got out of a big contract and they get No. 17. Can't say the Pats lost this deal.

Gary (Oakland)

Bill - After many years experiencing the Raiders blowing it (especially in early rounds) in the draft...and actually doing well last year...have any of the off-season coaching changes negatively altered the Raiders draft room for this upcoming draft?A 2nd solid draft in a row would be a welcomed surprise.

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Al Davis is still there. The draft room is intact.

Hootie (San Diego)

Many fans are frustrated over the lock-out, as someone who makes a living cover the NFL, what is your frustration level at this point?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Not yet, Hoot. I'm still plenty busy.

Lyle (Omaha)

I thought that decertifying would be a good thing and it hasn't been, why not?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

The players hope it's agood thing once the court case gets rolling.

Kirk Morrison (Jacksonville )

Ok Bill, who's better Rolando M. Or me

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

The kid.

joey (reno)

Would the cheifs dare to trade up for Julio Jones?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

It'd be a bold move. I think the Chiefs may stay at No. 21 and grab one of the top-notch pass-rushers.

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

It'd be a bold move. I think the Chiefs may stay at No. 21 and grab one of the top-notch pass-rushers.

weaz (essexville (MI))

I was pleased to see the play of Huff improve in Oakland... I hear Dallas as a possible landing spot... what do you think of Oakland letting him walk?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

They havent signed him yet and they've signed a lot of guys so you have to wonder.

kccheif (auburn al )

Which rookie QB do you see Oakland most likely drafting?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Keep an eye on Colin Kaepernick of Nevada.

weaz (essexville (MI))

DE Jason Hunter played in Detroit before playing for Denver last year as a LB... with their swtich to a 4-3. Does he still have a future there? If so, what position?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

I think they like him, yes.

Al Davis (Ca)

Do you keep 21 or use that $ on 1-2 other players?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

They may have already spent that money. The Raiders have a lot of money earmarked for 2011 with re-signees.

Josh (Chiefsville, USA)

Do you think Eric Berry will progress or has he plateaud

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

There's no way he has reached his ceiling. No way. Good player.

jason (akron ohio )

I've heard rumors that the AFC West could be the new NFC West next season due to hardness of schedule. What do you think about that? I don't agree with it at all.

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

The schedule will be difficlt, but I could see the Chiefs, Chargers and Raiders all being 8-8 or better. Easily.

Jim (San Diego)

How do you see Rivera's departure from SD affecting the defense? will they be as good as they were a year ago?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Greg Manusky is a former SD linebacker coach. He knwos the palers and the system. He's aggresive. They should be fine. But the players did respond well to Rivera, there's no doubt.

Alan (Colorado)

What are the chances Denver Drafts a RB to compliment Knowshon Moreno?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Strong. They are working out some abcks, including Oklahoma's DeMarco Murray.

Mark (Kansas City )

Bill who is in your final four?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

That ship has sailed, brother.

Dave W (Oregon)

The Broncos can't seriously be considering a QB with as atrocious as the defense is.

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

That's what I'm thinking.

wilson (miami )

Where do you think Darren Sproles will end up by the time the season starts up again?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

The Chargers may be reluctant to pay him big money again becuase of their solid RB group and because of the kickoff rule change. But Sproles will end up somewhere. He can helpa teams. I've heard the Dolphins could be a good fit.

Matt (NJ)

If Denver did draft Peterson, where you would you rank the Bailey/Paterson tandem as far as best in NFL?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

We'd have to see Paterson play in the NFL first, But it would be pretty good for a couple of seasons, I'm sure. Denver would be tough to throw on, there's no doubt.

Eric (CA)

Do you think these RFA tenders will hold? The Raiders simply can't afford to lose Miller and Bush...

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

There would is, if the the players win the court case and the lockout ends, last year's rules would apply and yes, those players would be RFAs.

Sproles (san iego)

ill be in new england

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Not bad.

tristan (virginia )

what do you think about the nfl this year do you think their will be a season

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

I know some people think there won't be a season. But I absolutely do. It would be a disaster.

Gary (Oakland)

Bill - Back to Seymour...the Raiders got 2 productive seasons (1 Pro Bowl season) and filled a need "before" this 17th pick came into play. The Pats were expecting a higher pick and not all 17th picks pan out, so I think the Raiders did pretty darn good. You also have to say the Pats REALLY missed Seymour and their SB quest was hampered because of it.

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

Raiders didn't do bad for sure. But I'd like to see Seymour help them get to the playoffs after giving up the pick and all the money spent on him.

collins (Columbia, MO)

What's the nicest stadium in the AFC West? NFL?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

Denver and KC are good. Others that stand out include Dallas, Indy, Tennessee, Baltimore, New England, Cincy Green Bay, Houston, Philly, Pittsburgh, Arizona. Seattle. Yes, lots of them.

Nick(Cali) [via mobile]

Not one Charger question yet? Will the Bolts be able to resign Weddle? and how high do you think they could move up for the right guy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

We've talked Chargers ... If Weddle stays a RFA, he stays. I think the Chargers coluld go to 10-12 to get a guy like J.J. Watt.

Derek (Toronto)

Will Robert Ayers be a solid DE and finally start getting sacks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

John Fox seems to think he can pull it off. The guy has ability. Now, he has to use it.

Spiegel (Stevenson Ranch,CA)

What are the chances that the Raiders get featured on "Hard Knocks"? I know it's a longshot but, that would be pretty awesome.

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Yes, I think it is a longshot, but it would be cool.

collins (Columbia, MO)

Do you see Billy Volek going to Carolina?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

That's not a bad paring, Collins. Not bad at all.

CHIEF209 (MODESTO,CA)

Do you think is better corner namdi or revis?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

I going West Coast on that one.

Ralpho (South Dakota)

Who is the AFC West's best player alltogether?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

In my mind, Philip Rivers.

Desmend Rios (fresno california)

Do u think the Raiders would make some type of trade to get a early 1st round draft pick in 2012 to get andrew luck?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I don't think they'd be alone in that desire. It would be pricey. I mean, pricey.

carls jr. (lawrence)

If the nfl were to use replacement players next season, where would they come from? Arena football?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Arena League-types, CFL-types, UFL-type, street free-agent-types.

carls jr. (lawrence)

Do you see KC's center retiring?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

I've been told Wiegmann has not made up his mind yet, but he may be leaning toward coming back.

Shawn (Toronto)

What do you think of Andy Studebaker as a player? Do you think it would be wise for the Chiefs to let him start next year and look at other positions in the early rounds?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

He's a high-motor guy that's good to have on the roster, but he may be better as a role player.

Matt (Belle Plain KS)

Whats going to happen to Chris Chambers? Cut? Backup?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I think the Chiefs will try to upgrade at receever and then make that decision.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour folks. Talked to you next week.
